The Sony A77 is now officially marked as “Sold out” at Sony UK, Sony Germany, Sony France, Sony Italy, Sony Spain and all other Sony EU stores! And the reason is simple, the new A77II is going to be announced one month from now. And the camera will have a hell of a speed (AF, EVF, Burst rate and so on)!!!

          1. Yes you are. Just count how often you mention you will post rumors and then count how often you actually post something.
So far the only thing we “know” is that the camera will be A77 MkII, that it will cost 1200$ and that it might do 14 fps. All the rest are vague mentions of improvement.

          2. I thought that the people who were coming down on admin for not giving enough of the rumors were being overly harsh. However, I can start to see what they are saying.

If you are able to say “the camera will have a hell of a speed (AF, EVF, Burst rate and so on)!!!”, then why can you not reveal what you have heard thus far? Just tell people what you have heard at this point. The teasing and holding back is getting a bit tiresome.

          3. I for one really dis-approve of anyone ” coming down ” on Admin. We pay nothing for use of this site, nor should we, so what right does anyone have to bitch about what the Admin does or does not reveal. Some of us, myself as well sometimes, act like little kids waiting for the release of the latest Xbox.

          4. Agreed. However, how long can a rumor site go without rumors, in order to still qualify as a rumor site?
Furthermore, there is a rating system to indicate how trustworthy the rumor is, which currently is rendered pretty useless as every bit of information is held back so it can be given SR5 and exceptionally SR4.

Mind you, I respect the Admin, but I strongly disapprove the chance in rumor strategy.

  1. Just as well that I just bought an A77 with battery grip for AUD $699 + $7.50 delivery. It must surely be the only semi-pro camera with grip for such a price.

      1. oo dot com dot au.(In case URL gets stuck in moderation). It was a 24 hour deal that’s now finished, but it might be worth checking back to see if any more stock turns up. Australian stock with Sony Australia warranty.

    1. The info I received from a Sony rep at the Photo Show (Birm, NEC) was that there are no plans to replace the a99 at the mo.

I am also interested in the a99 successor & so this was a blow to me as well.

      1. Not surprising – 3 years between a900 & a99, 2.5 years and counting between a77 and its successor. It is one 17 months since the a99 release.

If a77 II is out at the end of the year that will have been on schedule too.

      2. Any news on any ff a- mount that will be released this year? Thank God this was the year of the A-mount. I would hate to see a quiet year.

        1. Unfortunately all I have heard are unconfirmed rumors – which are totally unreliable. These include the FF 4K cameras etc. So until we actually hear from Sony – don’t hold your breath.

I have not heard any rumors (confirmed or otherwise) of a a99II at all – only no plan for it this year (Sony rep). So based on release schedules the a99 successor will most probably come next year.

  2. Andrea, This is misleading. The Sony.eu stores might have shifted the inventory to various other (sony.de, sony.nl, sony.fr, etc). It is still listed and there are plenty of them available.

While looking..I looked at the prices of the A9000 (649 Euro) vs NEX-6 (699 Euro) vs NEX-7 (899 Euro). Something is terribly wrong with the Sony models and their prices. While the NEX’ are no longer interesting to me. I will think hard and wait longer before considering any new camera purchase.

  3. My A77 keeps coming up with “Camera Error” and my A700 has broken steadyshot meaning the sensor is off centre- making framing difficult so I really need a new camera so I can at last get one fixed – I can’t be cameraless for more than a few days.

    Choices are:

    Wait for the A77 mk2
Buy the cheapest NEX I can find that I can connect flash triggers to as a stopgap (NEX 6?)
Buy an A6000 and save another 6months for A77mk2 – but would need a lens adaptor too, and A6000 isn’t out for 6 months
    Buy a (maybe 2nd hand) Nex 7 and wait 6 months for A77mk2 – need adaptor(s)
Buy an A7 with kit lens and adaptors and go mirrorless full frame
Go Micro 4/3rds with something like a Panasonic G5 and a bucket full of lenses

Hurry up Sony, I hate decisions!

    1. Your A77 sounds like a lens problem, try reseating the lens, trying a different lens and cleaning the contacts on mount and lens.

      1. Pretty sure it’s a shutter issue – I’ve lost count of the number times it’s been “round the clock”

    2. Option to get them both fixed together (to save on shipping if it’s not local) and rent while they are out.

    1. It means that Sony has no stock left. Of course you can still find the camera in stores until they too run out of stock.

  4. Admin – based on it being called the A77 II, is it safe to assume it will essentially have the same body as the A77?

        1. Nobody would ever guess that anyone would get back a failed tech like SLT but guess what Sony did ! Nobody thought anyone would make a superexpensive FF camera and pair it with a fixed prime lens but Sony did !

My point is nothing is really out of bounds for Sony. 😛

      1. The only thing I can see as being useful in the a77 II is the more robust DSLR features and the sensor stabilization. But the need to carry around a large DSLR body is becoming more and more unappealing (and unnecessary) for me. I don’t use Sony’s photo cameras for video anymore– Blackmagic and others do video much better for not a lot of money– so since all I’m looking for is photo taking abilities, I’m finding myself really drawn to the a6000. I’ve loved my a65, and my D800 does an incredible job, but sensors are getting so good the convenience of a small camera is starting to outweigh most other factors.

  5. I’m thankful for any information that you can give us. While I’d like to get more info, I’m glad that you try to verify information before you put it out, so that we can be relatively certain that what we see here is true (as long as it’s not deliberate mis-information) Please keep up the good work!

  6. Still all time favorite camera even though I don’t own it any more. I’ll get the new A77II if it proves worthy- I’m sure it will.
