Admin, you should type the character α and not use A as a substitute. As a result, some readers here seem to be getting confused and think the “A” in the camera name has some connection with the lens mount on the camera.

Sony’s regional websites have been shown to contain errors. The camera is called α7, not A7 nor a7. You will not find “A7” on the camera itself, on the box, in the manual nor on the Sony Japan website http://www.sony.jp/ichigan/
One of the problems I found when using α is that some PDF writers puke when you do that. they just substitute a box and give you an error when opening the document later in Acrobat.
You’re right in that part of the problem is that it’s not straightforward for a lot of people/programs to use characters outside of Windows-1252. However, it’s straightforward on the web to use the entity reference α or to just type/copy α if the page has defined a Unicode charset, which today is often the case. Just because a PDF writer is not set up to handle Unicode or a PDF reader doesn’t have a Unicode font is not a reason to universally “rename” the camera.
