Sony RX10 in Stock in USA/Canada. New reviews roundup!

EOSHD Sony Shootout Part 1 – RX10, A7R, FS100, RX1 from Andrew Reid on Vimeo.

For the first time the new Sony RX10 superzoom camera is marked as in Stock at Amazon US (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and Henrys (Click here). And we also have new reviews to link to:

EosHD posted that comparison video you see on top. And he writes:

The RX10 is really impressing me. Considering the sensor is stuffed full of megapixels (20MP) it has a very clean image. Obviously that full pixel readout is really helping. The RX10 handles beautifully. The lens just feels fantastic. Never used such a nice aperture ring before on a fixed lens camera. In stepless mode it’s smooth and ultra precice.

There is also one full new review at ePhotozine:

The RX10 feels extremely well built, with a solid body and ample rubber grip, making it feel comfortable to hold in hand. The large number of manual controls on the camera, such as aperture and exposure compensation makes the camera feel like a real camera, rather than just an electronic gadget, and the build quality and large high quality lens goes a long way to justify the price of the camera.

UPDATE: A little italian story with the RX10 at Cinema5D.

P.S: One more Review at DigitalcameraHQ.

    1. Thanks for posting this. On my trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand in about three weeks, I’m planning on taking an RX10 and an NEX-5T with the 16-50mm lens, so this comparison is very useful. It appears that for video, the RX10 is clearly superior. I would also like to see a comparison with the A7R.

      1. to be fair a comparison, i use Auto for both cameras. rx10 video will be even better using PASM mode with ND and other settings. the only complaints I have with RX10 is the slow zoom while taking video, both manual and motored. i do have the sel2470z, will be interesting to compare too.

          1. there are several rx100/NEX5 image IQ comparison review articles around, which should apply to RX10. For still photo, I now grab RX10 more often for casual/social shooting, will surely use NEX w/ zeiss lens for more important work.

  1. Admi
I am very interested in hearing RUMORS about the new tech sensor and any higher resolution sensors sony is working on.

  2. RX10 is neither alpha or interchangable lens camera. You really should rename this blog to SonyCamerasRumors.com so that someone else whop wants to provide real alpha mount rumors can take your site name

    1. Yeah, but than we have lenses too. So it should be SonyCameraLensrumors.com. And than I also post news and reviews. So let’s do…SonyCameaLensRumorsbutalsonews.com. Would that be fine for you? 🙂

        1. Damn, I was going to register “http://www.SonyCameraLensRumorsAsWellAsNewsDealsInterviewsAndOccasionalSillyness.com”

Now I worry it will be too close to this ^ one.

      1. Hi admin , you should name it “idoalltheworkifyouingratesdontlikeyouknowjustwhattodo”
you could add a link page telling them just exactly what to do , maybe with photos ! 🙂

      2. Some people just need to complain about something. You do a wonderful job and I appreciate what you do and visit almost daily.

  3. The camera is huge (a real monster) not only concerning the size of the sensor and compared to the FF offers from the same company. One more of these shoeboxes to impress friends? This can be had for less money.

    1. You can get another point and shoot with a Zeiss lens with a constant f/2.8 24-200mm zoom that can shoot are somewhere else? And for less? Do show.

  4. 2 major issues, lack of DOF control (due to sensor size)
Motorised zoom, really stupid oversight for a camera like this

Images are nice enough, but £1000 buys quite a lot of DSLR and some lenses/flash etc. IMHO it’s grossly overpriced, can’t see this taking off at all. Nice idea, next time shorter range APS-C sensor please

    1. I am not sure you can buy that much with the same money. A DSLR with a brand 18-200 lens will end up being roughly the same and then you will lack DOF control because of the slower lens. Otherwise, I’d agree, they could have done it a bit differently for that price, I find it strange that they put the old lower resolution EVF and also just tilt LCD. Maybe leaving something for the mkII.

      1. For about £300 extra you can have a D5100. Tamron 17-50 & Sigma 50-150 both constant f2.8 lenses. However I do not think that DSlr cameras are the competition for this.It is a convenient set up good lens, decent stills very good video, very good lens, all in a durable high grade weather sealed body. To me it is the almost perfect family/travel cam , while enthusiasts like the people who post here want more look through flickr smugmug etc and you while see that the vast majority of average shooters, shoot at low iso and the 24-200mm range is more than most will ever need.

        1. Yes, but then you will be paying more and carrying more, just to get that DOF. As you say, it is simply a convenient setup with its trade-offs. It is indeed expensive, but, for the most part, the price does make sense, small niggles notwithstanding. I also think that it is the almost perfect travel camera and the mkII will probably be outstanding.

  5. I just came back from a local camera store. They had the RX10. I am extremely impressed. The build quality, lens, controls, and menu system is top notch. I don’t believe I would ever consider anything with less than an APS-C sensor, but if I was forced to own just one camera, I could probably live with this one.

  6. With all these great RX10 reviews I’m considering selling my NEX 5R and 18-200. Has anyone seen any comparisons that might sway me either way?
