Not only Iridient is 29% off until the 27th of December here. You can now save 30% on Capture One Pro7 until Sunday, December 22 here. The latest updated now supports X-E2 RAF file. Save also on Capture One Express here.
Which converter would you go for? Here is again a RAW-converter poll, but this time with the addition of Photo Ninja.

C1 Express is also on sale for 48 EUR 🙂
What I miss here is ACR. Yes, it is basically the same as the RAW converter of Lightroom but not when it comes to workflow. Since I “grew up” with Photoshop (as of v3 in 1994) I use only ACR for RAW files (Nikon, Canon, Fuji). So I can’t vote here 🙂
I know all the alternatives but they don’t provide benefits worth changing my workflow. I’d love to use Iridient on Windows for Fuji RAF though…
You’re right. The poll should have Adobe, not LR, as they share the same engine, and this poll is about which engine one prefers. There is also a bias in that perhaps 25% of voters are using Aperture or IR which is for Macs. If these were available for PC as well, those values would rise, perhaps to 50% of so as that option is available for more users.
I’m using C1 express for raw conversion & then I work with psd files in LR.
I use Capture One 7 and earlier this month, there last sale, I upgraded to the Pro version for the local adjustment features. Tested all and found C1 gave me the best results with the least effort. Adobe seems to be at the bottom. If one has only used Adobe raws the test one of these others. You may not know what you are missing
Where is ACR in your converter poll? Those of us who primarily use Photoshop often continue to use ACR. (Under the skin it has much the same functionality as Lightroom for conversion.)
I’ve put together ACR/LR (same demosaic processing)
My favourite is:…you forgot photoshop acr – it turns in a decent result is a piece of cake to use for photo by phot editing…there’s more snobbery about editing software than there is about cameras! People should remember that photography is about capturing an image, not pixel peeping. And that you can’t polish a turd….
Photoshop/ACR (or any other post processing software) is not about pixel peeping. Photography has always been a (at least) 2-step approach – taking the picture (incl. composing it) and then processing it (depending on your composition). What once was deciding about film/paper/developing chemistry/darkroom workflow is now part of post processing. Remember? There have been darkrooms without a mouse (and if with a mouse, you better had a cat too). Ansel Adams was certainly no pixel peeper, despite being virtuoso in the darkroom (which he took into account way before he released a shutter).
How about including, “Favourite Converter you use but still aren’t happy with because it still isn’t that great but I’d buy Irridient if I had a Mac” category?
Don’t use American Express to order, as the foreign exchange will boost the price from $209.50 to about $223. Use some other credit card like Visa or MC.
I took advantage of the discount. I liked the fact of all the instructional videos.
PREORDERED THE 10-24…..
And even though I use LR 5.x and have been a LR user since LR 1.0 Beta I strongly believe Iridient Developer is the BEST when I want to extract each and every bit of X RAW details.
I also like and on occasion use Silkypix, or even Aperture….
Surprised that Lightroom came out on top of Capture one for Xtrans, but then established workflows are important too.
the worse raw for fujifilm is on top. that is fan support for you.
It’s not fan support. It’s workflow support. If I used Mac it would be a no brainer for iridiant. Don’t feel like changing over my computer because of my camera.
Yes, strange. Adobe will get the impression that the x-trans support in their current products is just fine, if not the best.
I agree. ..I am using Capture One, and it seems to be the best. That said, I hope Capture One puts more effort into improving the conversion even more. If not, I could see iridient or Photo Ninja becoming the best options in the future, assuming they will continue trying to improve the raw conversion for X-Trans files.
Photo Ninja, for instance, is close to Capture One with respect to the quality of the conversion. However, I have found Capture One’s colours to be more appealing – I found the tonal transitions more gradual or smooth, if that makes any sense.
I tried both C1 and Photo Ninja. I still believe that Iridient Developer still comes out on top and my entire workflow revolves around LR. But I’m not a LR fanboy. I will use whatever I need to get the best detail when working with raw files.
What impressed me with Capture One is the substantive effort to date, including all the user tutorials and videos. Since IQ involves a degree of subjectivity, I’m not sure just ‘how’ the conversation process could be improved “even more”.
What I look for in software is the old Apple formula–make the interface as simple and transparent as possible and hide the power at lower/deeper levels. Users should not be overwhelmed with too many tools and gadgets.
Something seems to be wrong with FR’s new Captcha feature. It never seem to accept the first one, but accepts #2.
Hi!
I am using this for my X100: http://www.cyberlink.com/products/photodirector-ultra/features_en_US.html
And I am happy.
You guys can see my work here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/AhmedabadHD/105782226238881?hc_location=timeline
Okay…that was fun, now on to the rumors.
My favorite (which is what the question is) is LR5 simply because that is my database and printing from LR is brilliant. LR is by far in my mind the best application for photography I have used yet. However I think the Best (which is NOT the question) raw converter I have currently is C1 Express.
Ordered it. A bit of redundancy with my other Fuji primes, but I want to have the most toys when I die.
