Fuji XF 55-200mm: [shopcountry 12892]
DEALS
It’s black friday time and there are plenty of good deals in the States. So here is the next one, in addition to the crazy X-deals here at AmazonUS, at BHphoto here and at Adorama here (you can save up to $1,400 on the lenses bundled also with the brand new X-E2 body!). For a detailed overview click here.
It may be of interest for some of you out there, that you can now save $200 on the XF55-200 at AmazonUS here. PLEASE NOTE: the item is currently out of stock, but you can pre-order it. If you click on the link I gave you, you’ll see an XF55-200 sold by a third party reseller. But, on the right side, you can read “More buying choices”, and there you’ll see the discounted XF55-200.
Pictureline has another deal: buy the X-E1 with kit lens ($200 off) and save $300 on the other zoom lens, the XF55-200 (+$30 savings on Adobe Lightroom 5). To see this deal click here.
Also the French X-E2 double kit deal will be available soon here (via DR) at AmazonUS! €1,899 for the X-E2, 18-55 and 55-200!
ADOBE: Adobe Europe is doing a 40% discount on LR5 today and only today. After that it will be 30% until 4th of december.
X-E2 and XQ1 REVIEWS
– Highly Recommended (4½ stars): ePHOTOzine X-E2 review here: “Most importantly the Fujifilm X-E2 delivers excellent image quality and there is a slight but subtle improvement over the previous model, with the new LMO delivering sharper images from the kit lens. […] With an emphasis on quality the camera and lenses are quite expensive, however the price is quite easily justified not only by the image quality on offer, but the high build quality of the camera and lenses. Highly Recommended.”
– Mike just wrote me: “I put up a first impressions review ( non technical! ) of the XE-2 on my blog in case anyone is interested.” A football match? A kids party? A fashion shoot?. From the kids party chapter: “I was very surprised how many good shots I got, the fuji did an excellent job and I really noticed the improved focussing speed. I think the low light focussing has been improved quite significantly. I tried a few tests at home as well and the Xe-2 didn’t hunt as much and was much faster to focus than the XE-1. It’s not perfect still but it’s much, much better.” Upgrade or not from the X-E1? The AF-improvement justifies an upgrade, according to Mike. Read more here.
– Highly Recommended: the XQ1 review at photographyblog here: “The image quality from the large 2/3-inch CMOS sensor with no low-pass filter is markedly better than virtually all other compacts, with the exception of the [shoplink 13127]RX100[/shoplink] / [shoplink 15087]RX100 Mk II[/shoplink]. […] If Fujifilm had released the XQ1 in 2012, instead of the flawed XF1, they would definitely have had a big hit on their hands. As it stands at the end of 2013, though, the incredibly popular Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100, with its bigger sensor, pretty much has things sewn up, especially considering that it now only costs a little more than the XQ1’s launch price.“

Fuji X-E1+18-55 kits are C$875 thru 11/30/13 at Aden Camera in Toronto.
What’s interesting about the discounted 55-200 is that you can essentially double dip the X-deal. If you add it to your cart with an accompanying body, you’ll notice an additional promotional discount of $200. For example, an X-E2 body + the 55-200 is $1389 after tax to Atlanta, GA. I made the purchase last night and just tried it again to make sure it wasn’t a fluke and the additional discount still applied. That’s one heck of a deal!
This is a deal from Amazon only? I don’t see this deal on BH.
Nevermind. I see it.
On B&H? I don’t see it. How did you get to it?
499 usd for 55-200mm? BUY it. I am on safari in southafrica at the moment. 200mm really long enough. Aperture is fast enough. IQ and build quality are phantastic. No reason not to buy.
What a deal.
Come on man. Wtf is this stuff. It’s not even news in the least.
This isn’t a rumors site anymore, it’s a sales site for fuji products. Half the posts are “save money on this lens” posts.
Time for someone fresh.
You don’t wanna save 300 bucks on the 55-200? Well, skip this deal
Thanks for letting us know. At that price, I may get it to replace my EF 70-200 mm f/4L IS.
By the way Rico hinted at a possible firmware update for the X-Pro 1/X-E1 this week. Do you have any info on that?
All I know is what I shared with you on NOV11: a firmware will come “very soon”. The precise date is very hard to find out for me. But it seems it’s imminent (if there are not delays of the last second).
Thanks! Do you know what the firmware will address?
No… It will be a surprise also for me this time 🙂
Thanks for the heads up, Patrick. Looking forward to the new year here, on FR.
At $499 ($300 discount off $799) for the XF 55-200mm, the secondary market appears stunned. Supply far exceeds demand for this lens, and inventory value is declining rapidly. I counted 50 for sale on eBay for $650 or more. It’s good to see the camera/lens merchants/pro buyers (who use bidding tricks) take it in the shorts.
rented the 55-200 and tried to shoot some rugby with the X-E2…for me it was a failure…the 55-200 was sluggish…and I did do the firmware update for the lens…if you like soft smeary images…then I guess the X-E2 is the camera for you…I really wanted to like it but detail was lacking…people in the images are smiling but their teeth and skin are smeary looking…this camera is not for me…I think that it handles noise in a bad way…yes the images look clean…but where is the definition…it’s just not there…I have owned Nikon Olympus and Fuji so I am not a fanboy…I just wish this camera was better
ILoveSven, Sorry your not having success using the XE2. My XE2 has not arrived yet, But I have the X Pro 1 and XE1 and have amazing success with the 55-200 lens in very difficult lighting situations of theatre, classical music, and opera. I have amazing results with this combo. Now when my XE2 comes I know my results will be even stronger.
Unless they have done something different with the X-E2, I find that hard to believe. I have never shot with a sharper camera, though I am sure the Sigma’s and the D800 have better resolution. Sorry to hear that it didn’t work out well for you.
Just wish Lightroom will be better
