Rangefinder Lovers Are Hungry for Fujifilm 6th Gen: X-Pro Shooters Lead the Pack

Who Will Upgrade?

Over the last few weeks we have launched several surveys, trying to investigate who is potentially more inclined to upgrade to Fujifilm’s 6th generation platform.

Well, I guess it’s time for a big recap. So here are the percentages of readers considering an upgrade to 6th generation Fujifilm cameras, broken down by the camera they currently own.

Not included in this ranking are X100 line shooters, because that survey is more complex, due to the “lens factor”.

  • X-Pro2 shooters = 82%
  • X-Pro3 shooters = 81%
  • X-Pro1 shooters = 77%
  • X-E3 shooters = 66%
  • X-E4 shooters = 62%
  • X-T3 shooters = 62%
  • X-E2/S shooters = 60%
  • X-E1 shooters = 58%
  • X-T4 shooters = 56%
  • X-T2 shooters = 55%
  • X-H1 shooters = 55%
  • X-S10 shooters = 53%
  • X-H2 shooters = 51%
  • X-H2S shooters = 47%
  • X-T1 shooters = 46%
  • X-T5 shooters = 41%
  • X-S20 shooters = 41%
  • X-M1 shooters = 39%
  • X-T20 shooters = 38%
  • X-E5 shooters = 36%
  • X-T30/III shooters = 36%
  • X-M5 shooters = 35%
  • X-T10 shooters = 33%
  • X-T50 shooters = 26%

What we can see: it’s definitely X-Pro shooters who are waiting the most for the 6th generation, and more broadly rangefinder-style X shooters, since X-Pro and X-E line cameras take the top 8 spots of the ranking, with the exception of the X-T3, which shares the 4th spot with the X-E4.

Speaking of X-T3, it actually breaks a trend we notice in this ranking. Usually the older the camera is, the more people are considering an upgrade. However, X-T3 shooters are more likely to upgrade than current X-T1 and X-T2 shooters (as well as X-T4 shooters).

Another trend: the more “entry level” a camera is, the less likely its owners are considering an upgrade. X-M1, X-T10, X-T20, X-T30/III and X-M5 shooters all rank near the bottom of the list, regardless of how old their camera actually is — the X-T10, for instance, is nearly a decade old, yet sits at just 33%, far below cameras of similar vintage like the X-T2 (55%).
