First. And that D600 is really appealing to me. I may add my name to the waiting list. I was looking forward to the external controls of the NEX 6 but they took away the touch screen, which I love on my 5N. The A99 would be more appealing to me if I shot video. I am impressed enough with the A99, but not at its price point. But the RX1 is most appealing to me since I shoot most of my shots with the Zeiss 24 now. I could easily transition to the RX1, but I am not sure I could afford to keep my 5N and get the RX1. With the RX1, you need another camera for other focal lengths even if I rarely use them. Hmmm.

damn sony shortage tricks!! RX1 will be the HOTTEST christmas present this year! remember when the NEX7 sold for double and triple the price because no one could get what everyone wanted?

RX1 is a NO GO for the exact issues you are bringing up about the A99. The price… and no EVF, and fixed lens, and no articulating screen? = NO thanks. And also no other focal lengths. Money for money, the A99 will be a far better deal. And, I do shoot video as much as photos. (will get the NEX-6 as well, btw.)

A99 not even in the top 100 anymore on the 2nd day. I am afraid the A99 will be the next failure commercially. Possibly Sony will reduce the price to make it more attractive.

You are right. Still disappointing. Sony will need to lower the price significantly.
I think the dust will settle and we’ll know what will happen somewhere in between the middle and then end of Photokina.
Likely, potential buyers will be looking towards the Nikon D600 (which is now official) and the yet to be Canon budget full frame competing with the D600. I think Sony took too long to bring a FF replacement for the a850/900 because that end (The ^$2500) of the market adjusted to Canon and Nikon for three years.
Also, pitched as a high end video camera, those would be buyers for that feature alone could be now split between the A99 and then VG900. EOSHD and DIVXUser have a ‘wait and see’ environment and many of them are just waiting for the GH3 (also aimed at video crowd) which could potentially come at a cheaper price than the a99. Maybe then, Sony will lower the a99 price.
SLR market is tough as steel and people are looking very carefully where to part with their cash.
NEX6 went alllll the way down to place 11 – even RX100 sells better right now. And that’s barely after the release.
RX1 went to spot 21 from spot 2 just 2 days ago.
A99 went…… wooooooooooooooping way down to spot 63 from something like 10 (???) at the day of release.
In general – seems like Sony goes back to usual statistics on Amazon.
Those stats represent sales through Amazon alone, correct? If one would purchase through Sony, Adorama , B&H, etc. would not count would they?
Amazon alone. Adorama, B+H and others will have other stats. Anyone living in the EU should definitively look for Meyer Photo in Berlin. Small shop but had 5 NEX 7’s on Christmas eve last year and I managed to get one booked from them just on time!
Small shops are worth checking if anyone wants a fast delivery.
Would Village Photo in NYC be taking these as well?
The release date on Sony online suggests Oct. 2. Would ordering from Sony result in a faster delivery.
Forget about SonyStyle’s dates on preorders. They are always all over the map. And ordering from SonyStyle directly doesn’t always guarantee you will get the unit first. I remember having to cancel a pre-order because they were quoting me another week before shipping when other stores were already shipping theirs.

Photokina is the reason this time of the year.
Massive attendance from lots of people with heavy online gravitas. Michael Reichman (Luminous Landscape) was due to attend but two others will be covering it for him. His site alone influenced plenty of people to buy the NEX 7, especially those that, like him, do a lot of travel and landscape photography.
Cunt Rockwell could be going. Steve Huff doesn’t miss it. And other sites like DPReview cover it very well too. This is a stage and Sony just doesn’t want to miss out (and rightly so).
What Sony should do is to have their manufacturing act together closer to the announcement dates rather than too long after. As you can see from the suggested dates for shipping, A99 took much priority.

This is interesting. Just checked and RX1 is 21st in the list. That could mean that everyone who pre-ordered could get it on time to place it below the tree.
I think everyone who wanted one, pre ordered one as soon as it was out so now not many people are left so its back to Nikon, the RX100 and the NEX 6.
Nikon D600 is the new kid on the block right now. Shockingly Nikon is able to deliver these cameras within less than a week of announcement. Almost Apple like. Mine is coming from Amazon on Sept 19 =) I don’t think many people will jump ship to A99 or RX1 unless they are HEAVILY invested in Sony Glass or in the RX1 case RICH. Most up coming photographers are either Canon and Nikon and both companies are now or soon offering affordable FF camera along with an outstanding lens line up. Nikon D600 for $2100 is not bad and the rumor Canon 6D would be in the same ball park.
So if Sony wants to jump in, their only hope is under cut Nikon and Canon. If prices are similar, nobody would ever switch to their system. NEX is a different story however, as the NEX 6 is perfectly price in my book thus I have one on pre-order and I would invest in the NEX System but not the Alpha.

I preordered an A99 at B&H and I paid $30 extra for 2 day air, I have been waiting for a full frame SLT since I bought my a77 when that thing hit the market.

Sony needs to lower the price of the a99 $200-300. Is it a good value? I started with Sony years ago with the a300 because it was a good value. I brought the a57 as a preorder and now it sells for $100 less. I don’t appreciate that now. Are they going to give me the difference? Are you kidding. Sony wants us to buy cameras every year. Ever feel like you are a beta tester for them? Sony get the pricing right as soon as a camera is released. I will not preorder again even though I plan on buying a nex 6 now that a 16 mp nex has a hotshoe.
