Switch to the X: last 3 days of the crazy-X-superdeals! + Rico’s X-M1 (27 and 16-50) samples!

DEALS

These are the last 3 days where you can stack the X-E1/X-PRO1 offer with the following XF lenses,[shoplink 12888]14mm[/shoplink], [shoplink 12889]35mm[/shoplink], [shoplink 12891]18mm[/shoplink], [shoplink 12887]18-55mm[/shoplink], [shoplink 12890]60mm[/shoplink], and save a lot of money. If you are one of those out there who was waiting to see how the X-M1 would be and decided that a smaller and cheaper body with WiFi, bigger, better and tiltable LCD and EXR-II processor is not enough to justify the missing viewfinder, then this could be the right moment to make the switch to the X.

Check the crazy-X-superkit deals at AmazonUS, BHphoto and Adorama [Adorama offers a lot of accessories]

If you decide to switch and buy the X-E1/X-PRO1 with lenses, then you should definitely purchase Rico’s book too. It will make your switch a lot easier! Mastering the FUJIFILM X-Pro1” (Kindle Edition) (Apple iBook Store) (German version)

  1. Thanks to this post on Fujirumors, I finally bit and got myself an X-E1 + 35mm1.4. I am both nervous and excited about what’s in store after the gear arrives. Having recently unloaded an OG Canon 5D and a 17-40L, I feel this is somewhat justified though. Thank you for the community!

  2. It’s been a pleasure to read all Rico’s comments and analysis. Competent and accurate unlike most of the self-taught testers or reviewers nowadays. Love it and looking forward to see them more often. Well done Rico, good to have you on our X side.

  3. Just from glancing through all the samples, I get the feeling the lenses are very…..mediocre. I guess that’s to be expected from budget lenses for a budget camera, but I was hoping the pancake would be special, but I’m just not seeing it. At least the zoom has that nice 16mm, but all previous XF lenses seem to produce more pleasing pics to me. That’s just my opinion though.

  4. Looking forward to Rico’s info on the X-M1 tomorrow.

Regarding the July firmware update it seems most of the discussion is around the focus peaking. I’m more curious about the AF speed update – what are people’s expectations for improvements? I’m considering getting an X camera before the deals expire and wonder how significant the improvements will be.

    1. In all honesty, it isn’t that bad now.

The 60mm hunts around in low light but then again, it is a macro lens which tend to be slow in any case. I would say for about 99% of the time I have no issues and it has to become either very dark or little to no contrast before issues occur.

If you focus on something that has horizontal lines in poor light it misses, tilt the camera so the lines pass through the focus box at 45 degrees and it gets a fix. It prefers to lock on vertical lines. I’ve taken shots of paragliders at dusk in misty conditions and it locked on ok (55-200). When it doesn’t lock it can be mildly irritating but given the cameras other qualities (x pro1), I can easily forgive it.
