NEX-5R announcement on August 29th (SLT, E-mount FF and NEX-6 in September)

Quick update about the announcement date. It looks like Sony is going to have an announcement of the NEX-5R only(!) on August 29th in the afternoon (European time). The A99, NEX-6, NEX and Alpha lenses and the E-mount FF surprise are going to be announced in mid September. P.S.: August 29th is next Wednesday.

Something terrific: I am now writing my next rumor. It is a must read rumor for all film makers and it concerns the new E-mount FF camcorder(s). I just got a surprising info (rated SR5)…it is so surprising that I bet that film makers on different forums will write that I invented the rumor. I expect many personal attacks and SAR denigration. I ask all these guys to just wait until mid September before to kill me…ok? 🙂

  1. Noooooooouuuuuuu!!! I wanted the NEX-6 to be available as soon as possible!!!

BTW..Sony seems to put almost or every important announcement on Wednesday…

  2. That’s just too disappointed! I am doing a lot of trading actions to move my traveling gears from Alpha to NEX. And I plan to build an all-round purpose NEX system. I need my NEX-6 ASAP before my trip in Oct. But now what?

Sony always postpone product announcement date. Always! That’s really annoying!

    1. >Sony always postpone product announcement date. Always! That’s really annoying!<
AFAIK Sony did no product announcement at all, so how can they postpone somethiong they did not said.
The problem is that people take rumors for fact.
This side does a great job, but they are telling rumors, accept that!

  3. Thanks for all your work, Andrea! I visit this site often. Sony is doing the right thing by letting people know what is coming. Sony has my money! I have the NEX 5N now, but I’m going to get the NEX 6 when it comes out and then the FullFrame NEX in 2013!

Anymore info on the new 50mm 1.2 and 1.4 lenses? Will the Rokkor line return? I’d love to see the Minolta Rokkor 58mm 1.2 reissued!

Keep up the great work! 🙂

  4. I hope not, because of the IFA 2012 (bigger Event than Photokina and there is Sony Germany) in Berlin starting at 31. August.
I hope there will be all the NEX stuff (APS-C not FF).

  5. in the UK, Sony is running a £100 discount on the (already discounted NEX-7). This means you can get the NEX-7 body for just £739. This £100 discount offer applies to all NEX-7’s bought before 29/08 (inclusive).

This means that I’ll have approximately 5-6 hours after the NEX-5R announcement to order a NEX-7 body online (or about 1.5 hours to buy in a shop!).

I’m not particularly interested in the 5R but I am interested in an NEX-6. The 5R will tell us a lot about how the apps and PDAF are going to work in the NEX-6.

    Decisions, decisions, decisions!

      1. nope the purchase needs to be made on or before the 29/08 but the application form needs to be sent back to Sony before the end of September (with proof of purchase).

  6. Hmmm, From memory, the only vague rumour from 6 months ago that hasn’t become a ‘definite rumour’ in the last couple of weeks is the medium format sensor story…. but that would be VERY far fetched for a camcorder, and I’d expect everyone to denigrate SAR for it.

So Im taking the long bet and saying thats the far fetched SR5 story: 4k medium format video sensor. That’s stretching it so far its practically made of elastic 🙂

  7. That next rumor seems really major! Better write a long and detailed one so the other websites that will quote you will have a lot of context to sift thru.:D

  8. Any clue how long it will take for the 5R to ship to the Asian markets after they announce the 5R on the 29th? Thanks!

  9. Andrea do you happen to know if the NEX 6 hot shoe is the hybrid one on the A99 as well?

    You’re awesome!! 😀

  10. I’m a bit excited and confused about the new Sony NEX 6 ISO hotshoe. I have some nice Canon T2i compatible flashes from the past that I have been using on my Sony Alpha cameras through an ISO-Sony adapter. Would those ISO flashes work with the new Sony iISO(what is that?) hotshoe?

    1. No, they will flash in manual mode only. All the talk about a standard hot shoe is about firing strobes in a studio.

  11. Hi SR,

    1. I don’t have any camera right now, planning to buy my first and i am highly concidering buying either NEX 5R or NEX6.
    a. which one should i buy?

    2. Did Sony fixed the overheat issue with the NEX5ns, or did they improve the timing? I saw 20min was the most you can record. Is this issue fixed in NEX 5R or even NEX 6?

Can’t wait to buy one of this!! just got a bad itch for it.
    Thanks,
    Max

  12. Sony NEX-6 spotted in the wild, electronic viewfinder

We’ve had furtive glances of Sony’s upcoming NEX-6 before, but only in the very clinical space of a government test lab. Apparently, no mere agency can confine it: photography workshop director Vincent Kang has posted a photo of the pre-release mirrorless camera on Weibo for all to see. Posing next to 24mm and 50mm lenses, the NEX-6 looks to be very much the in-between camera we suspected it was, without as much dedicated control as the NEX-7 but still carrying an electronic viewfinder, a pop-up flash and a dedicated function key near the shutter release. The dedicated mode dial is also more conspicuous — there’s no question that Sony wants to free up controls on the back for the future camera’s more experienced target audience. Between the new design and the already known inclusion of WiFi, it’s looking as though the NEX-6 may hit the sweet spot for shooters who want more control than the NEX-5R without sacrificing all its newer features. We just need to wait for official launch details to make it all real………
