silver award well deserved, the body feels plastic yet the function just as well as any other NEX
Plastic will be expensive in a few decades because we will run out of petrol. And it will become a better material of finition than steel or stainless.
It will be precious. We will remember our 2000’ years and realise how fool we were at wasting plastic and not taking it into consideration.
So Prof LR, I know that raw resources are precious these days, the petrol you mentioned is getting more scarce as each day gone by. So does that mean you’re going to start driving EV and not using plastic bag in grocery store? (props for you if you’re doing that)
I don’t fully understand your intention behind the petrol comment, I was comparing the NEX-F3 in the store to my own NEX-7 which has a magnesium alloy body and 7 feels much sturdier than F3. Plastic may become a rarity one day in a few decades, but for NOW it is a relatively lightweight & inexpensive material that can be molded in different casts.
Looking forward to carbon fibers for everyday consumer products when it gets cheaper.
I did not intend to react to your comment that I also share. Instead, it was the occasion to talk about the look of products, because some people don’t want plastic lenses. Reacting to your comment does’nt necessary mean i want to contradict you.

Sony should produce their own version of Panasonic spec-heaven of a camera FZ-200: 25mm-600mm with constant f2.8 aperture. I really like the build quality of their HX megazoom series. They would kill in this segment. Use the large & beautiful RX100 sensor but use a lower zoom factor of 12X (instead of 24X with the Pana). With Macro capability, Sony would sell this like hot cakes. Their RX100 has already become a perennial favorite at amazon.com.
I own an F3. It’s a great camera. I pretty much agree with that review. It’s not perfect, but for the price you get really great IQ and tons of useful and fun features. Next year, if Sony comes through with more E-mount lenses, I’ll probably get the sequel to the 7 (7n?) to have better controls and hopefully improved UI.

I’d do anything, anything, I’d even talk nice to my XXX-wives… IF Sony would put the Alpha menu system inside all NEX cameras. NEX menu and interface just suck… absolutely suck. I hate it more than paying alimony. May as well be a completely different camera line with a little “a” sticker.
In fact… IT IS a completely different camera line than Alpha… aside from the fact it can exchange some batteries and adapt Alpha lenses. But the lens argument doesn’t hold because ANY freaking lens can be adapted to it.
Seriously, I get dizzy and self hypnotized sometimes searching for stuff in that bewitched menu system. It’s cursed I tell you… possessed by evil aliens that want to eat my brain.
I need to complain that many reviews say that menu-driven user interface is frustrated.
I don’t think so because I can quickly understans to use every functions in nex system.
However, when I use canon CDC(G2), I am actually confused on many buttons and I really don’t understand the function of buttons after so many year.

The NEX cameras already have the alpha sticker.
I think the nex menu system is fine, you can stay out of it easy of you use the custom button. Ot gets a bad reputation, but you just remember where your features are and they are easy to locate
In terms of IQ, is F3 on par with or better than 5N ?
Silver for F3 (74%) and C3 (74%) and 5N (79%) got gold. So it seems they are saying the older 5N is a better buy than the newer F3 ?
