(SR5) Sony makes the perfect NEX? NEX-6 with new(!) 16 megapixel sensor!

A year ago Sony launched the NEX-7 and I remember quite many readers here said why the heck Sony is using a 24 Mega-pixel APS-C sensor? Many here wished to see a version with lower resolution sensor (and cleaner High ISO). And indeed Sony heard your call and the new NEX-6 with integrated viewfinder will use a 16 Mega-pixel APS-C sensor. And from what I heard the sensor is not the same 16 MP sensor of the [shoplink 7207]Sony NEX-C3[/shoplink], [shoplink 8452]Sony NEX-5n[/shoplink] and so on…it’s a completely new one! The camera has WiFi and is priced between the NEX-5 and NEX 7 series. Easy math: the NEX-7 is $1199 (at Amazon) and the NEX-5n is $699. So around $950 for the NEX-6 I guess 🙂

I have been told there is more innovation than we think within the NEX-6. I am working on these rumors too. Stay tuned!

    1. If it has a lower resolution EVF than the NEX-7/NEX-5n optional EVF, then it is useless. What’s the point of going back to an Olympus OM-D’s 800×600 LCD EVF? Geez Sony …

      1. They probably don’t want everyone to choose the NEX7 over the NEX6. Whatever the reason its unfortunate as the newer EVF was a definite improvement over the old one.

      2. But if you compare the EVF in the SLT-A57 vs. SLT-A67/77, then it is quite useful. Sony has improved the lower spec’ed EVF where it is quite functional.

The real question is why create a new NEX model and not just release this as a cheaper EVF for all the other models with the NEX-7 remaining the halo product. The new sensor in the 5N successor would be nice.

      3. The NEX7 EVF is good for an EVF but bad for a viewfinder. I want an improved EVF, not a worse one, and I am willing to pay for it. But other people may have other needs.

      4. Actually, if Sony can make the EVF as responsive as E-M5’s, it would be great. I mean, the E-M5 has a higher refresh rate and is less laggy especially in lowlight. Also, the NEX-7’s EVF has almost too much contrast and it’s hard to see detail in the shadows. Wouldn’t mind the new EVF loosing a bit of res to speed it up, get more details in the dark spots and keep cost down.

Resolution is not everything; if you’ve used both instead of just reading specs, you’d understand.

  1. Hope that the sensor will be a 5n improved version (with microlenses compatible for biogon and uwa lenses) otherwise Nex 7 is better.

  2. Touch screen too maybe? I think Sony might have a winner on their hands, I like the combo of features!

I guess it won’t be available till just before Christmas 🙁

    1. Proper controls perhaps instead of throwing in gimmicks? You know – good interface and proper amount of buttons is always by far better then any mount of touch points and tricks on a screen.

      1. I have to agree with you. I think tri-navi and touchscreens are things I don’t want on my camera. Look at the playbook from Fuji. Some people think they are “retro” designs, I think it is just “good” design and maybe the engineers shouldn’t be trying to mess with a proven paradigm of manual dedicated controls.

        1. -1
Exposure times wheel is a nonsense. We have sh1tload of possibilities with current technologies. Playing with retro isn’t a good way at all.

          1. Old design was limited by film placement. We don’t have such limitations today. We have other other ones, so we need to find how to avoid them, not the restrictions that doesn’t exists. We also have new tools: we can choose and indicate focusing points without touching a joystick (acceleration gage, etc). We can place EVF everywhere we want. We can tilt it, etc.

          2. Yes, we can… use touchscreen, but “real” photographer loves button, knobs, wheel switch and ovf, like the good ol’ time 🙂 Only instagram boys and girls use touchscreen with ease and efficiency 😉

          3. This has nothing to do with retro. When I photograph, I have the following preferences:
Viewfinder in the top-left corner (because I have a nose in the middle of my face), dedicated ISO and exposure wheels with markings, so I can always see how it is set, single button short cuts for my favorite camera configurations, and very fast ways to enable/disable manual focus and white balance, so I do not loose too many motives.
If Canon follows these principles in most of its higher-level offerings (with the exception of the first one, which you only find in the G models), and Sony neglects them, it is not because Sony is more advanced, but because Sony likes to put new design teams on new projects and starts from scratch, while Canon works iteratively.

      2. Slide through the gallery, tip to focus, pinch to zoom, there are so much things you can do best with a touchscreen…

      3. I strongly disagree. With the Fuji, you have an ISO button on the left.
So you have to press it with your left hand and use your right hand to scroll the wheel to adjust the ISO value.

With my Nex-5 and its custom buttons, I can adjust everything in less than 3 clicks with only one hand. That is a massive improvement in usability.

A ton of buttons all over the place and/or touchscreen isn’t faster at all, and it forces you to use two hands.
Fuji, Pana, Olympus, Samsung’s button layout are an ergonomic downstep compared to the NEX family.

      4. I have to agree with this. The touchscreen on the 5n is annoying. I am constantly touching accidentally and it goes into auto-focus tracking. Then by the time I hit the cancel the tracking function, I missed the shot or I am finding out that the person I asked to take a picture of me and my wife accidentally hit it and focused on a tree in the background instead of us.I have my touchscreen turned off and the buttons programmed appropriately to allow quick changes without the touchscreen.

  3. Exactly what I’d been hoping for. I moved from a 5n to an A65, then A77, but want a 16mp sensor as a backup camera. I’d been considering an A57, but this Nex has definite appeal as a smaller solution.

      1. Yep, I’ve had it for a couple of days. Size-wise it’s perfect for me, I have larger hands and I like manual controls. I have X100 and controls are brilliant. The only reason why I want interchangeable lens system is because of portrait photography, X100’s 23mm (35eq) is just too wide for it and don’t want SLR – been there, not going back.

  4. I have sold my GH1 a year ago, since then i’m shooting with canon QL17,

    I’m waiting for NEX-6 + 35\1.8 for like ages.

    1. Actually, the D800 has less resolution per square inch on its sensor than the NEX-7, but both show GREAT low light quality! I never understood those people complaining about the NEX-7s sensor. Even if you mainly shoot in bad light, ISO 3200 is quite good, and I wouldn’t shoot higher than that on any camera.

  5. I probably won’t be buying a Nex 6 as I’m the happy owner of a Nex 7, but I do hope that it will prompt Sony to release a firmware update for the 7. It’s happened many times when a company releases a camera based on an existing model, they have to alter or improve the firmware for the new product and the old product gets a similar update. Fingers crossed! As much as I love my 7, there’s a few things that could use improvement.

  6. The also unknown specs of the forthcoming 5R’s are making it difficult to imagine what much should happen technically with two new models between 5N and 7 beside firmware limitations. Not so sure if Sony’s really doing a good thing to their NEX line with these many variations. Personally I’d prefer a smaller camera without viewfinder or built-in flash like the current 5N with GPS, time-lapse and especially video improvements, since NEX is a dual-use system to me.

  7. As far as i can guess NEX-6 with newly updated rumored 16-50E OSS f2.8 lens don’t forget about that new 16 MP sensor will kill even some FF cameras for low light shooting, let alone that Canon EOS M with 1080 30p video (Still?) … hahaha canon!
Count that tilt-able touch screen with wi-fi and in-built viewfinder plus a dedicated flash …oh!…oh!… and sure that same nex cute look……… historic camera manufacturers are already eaten by SONY with breakfast.

Fanboys? anything to say?….. worst nightmare of any CSC and entry level traditional SLRs …..

    I love SONY!

  8. If this NEX-6 costs $950, I rather pay extra $100 for eye-fi wifi SD card and keep using my NEX 5 (bought it brand new for $400) 😉

    1. NEX-7 has held his price hopefully it will be like the 3 and 5’s who’s prices drop after a few months. I’ve it doesn’t i think i would prefer a 7 too.

    1. +1 on the touch screen and shutter. Touch screen on Nex 5N is really helpful for manual focus. Also, from using a m4/3 camera, a touch shutter is very useful.

    2. if nex-6 may have touch panel, sony!, please bundle with english “screen keyboard”, so that we can key-in some simple ASCII memo for each shot in review mode. This “screen touch keyboard” firmware feature does not require rocket science nor tons of sw developers.

      1. I too would like to see a keyboard for entering info on the review screen.
eg. peoples names, places, lens used when using adapters… way too useful.

  9. 950$ is too much for nothing new. i really can’t imagine myself willing to pay the double price for my 5N only being paired with some more control dials :>>>

    1. How about lenses? 🙂

The NEX system already has a flagship body, the NEX-7. While a 16Mp NEX-6 is a great idea, the main problem keeps on being the lenses.

  10. Things I want in NEX-6:
    ISO hot shoe
    Proper timer remote jack
Improved corner with symmetrical design wide angle RF lenses
Possibility to position view magnification button somewhere reasonable, unlike NEX-3/5 series, and make it consistent across native lenses and non-electronically coupled lenses
More sophisticated histogram implementation a la Olympus, and don’t make it disappear in exposure compensation adjustment where it’s most needed(arguably the most retarded design in my NEX-5)!

  11. don’t think all the other spec’s are the same as the nex 7?

otherwise they won’t sell any other nex 7 camera’s.
250 Dollars of price difference wouldn’t justify the extra megapixels only.

    1. Differences by current rumors:

      24MP vs 16MP sensor
2,4 MP vs 1,4 MP EVF
      Tri-Navi vs unknown
      Digital level vs nothing (?)

For me, these are more than enough differences to justify this price difference.

  12. 24 to 16 megapixel is still more substantial difference than the difference in high ISO capability gained with lesser density sensor. Given the chip manufacturing technology is the same. While higher pixel count benefits in all photos for better crop and/or larger print capability, high ISO is useful in limited amount of cases only. I do not understand the hype for low megapixel sensors, unless NEX-7 has real problem with high ISO, amount or quality of grain present.

  13. What more can be improved in the 5N sensor? I bet it will somehow exhibit a faster and more accurate AF system and improved power consumption. For some reason, the body design of the A580 seems to have helped augment the sensor’s performance, at least on the DXO mark test. Perhaps, they will do something similar with the 6 body (improved heat dispersion?, etc.).

Built-in ND filter(s)? Improve overall RAW performance by another stop? GPS? RF trigger/controller for external flash? Or offer an external device with this and GPS capabilities. Faster flash sync speed than the typical 1/160? I’m dreaming…if all this were true, many of us may no longer need an SLT/DSLR. I agree with all of you about keeping the touchscreen. It is very useful for on-the-fly focus point selection. If anything, revise the 5 quick access custom settings to include a total of 7 custom settings, as in the RX100.

  14. Camera sounds great, now let’s wait for the finished product which i hope will be more like the nex7 than the 5.
And unless they bring out a few more nice lenses for serious photographers i will rather go the olympus route when it comes to mirrorless.

  15. Let’s please not focus on the fact that the NEX-7 is over 10 grand… I’m much more concerned about the NEX-6 price. Correcting the “quick math” calculation, ($11,199 + 699)/2 = $5,949 for the NEX-6. I’ll pass. (grin)

In all seriousness, though, I paid $425 for my NEX-5 (from a spoiled Dr.’s wife who used it for 59 shots before deciding it was “too complicated”)… I’m going to have to be mightily wowed by the NEX-6 to consider shelling out even $925.

  16. So $250 dollar more for a NEX6 instead of a NEX5n with the only difference being wifi (won’t use it) and an EVF (great)? Bit steep isn’t it? The only reason for it to make sense to me is if the new sensor has some nifty new features.

    1. Benji the Sony NEX 7 is not over 10K it is less than a tenth of that lol. You must read and search before getting so excited lol.

      Si

  17. Amazing .. I love the idea it’s going to be a 16mp. Now it we have the tri-navi and capacitive touch screen. I will pay 1000 no problem. I just hope it’s out before christmass lol.

  18. Whatever the price (almost), the Nex-7 body with Nex-5N sensor with microlens technology to allow the use of M-Mount lenses, especially wide angle : JUST PERFECT !

  19. The conundrum that Sony faces is how to ensure that the NEX-6 doesn’t take sales away from the older NEX-7 flagship. That’s one of the reasons it’ll feature a lower resolution EVF. The problem with that strategy for those of us interested in using M-mount lenses is that we’ll have one camera with a sensor that potentially handles these lenses better and a second camera that has the higher resolution sensor needed to focus them.

      1. So what will then be the advantage of the nex 6 if 5r has same sensor, and with the evf of the nex 7 (the attachment one). Will be more versatile for manual focus than 6. Do, that means that nex 6 will have more dials to compensate the difference between 5r and 6?

        1. Patrick, that’s the question. It’s the same problem today: while the NEX-5N delivers better corner image quality with wider M-mount lenses, the NEX-7 has the controls many using M-mount lenses would want. Adding the external EVF to the NEX-5N adds a feature that’s important for manual focus, but at a cost – both financial and in terms of ergonomics.

  20. New sensor. Really interesting indeed. What’s the difference? Properly aligned microlenses? Multilayer sensor (this would be a revolution)? But, wait. We’ll know soon.
But based on the rumors of compact 11-18 lenses I hope for the better. I.guess I will want to buy one.

  21. Well, how about a perfect 16M sensor really performing outstandingly in high-ISO in the form of RAW? Show us your power, SONY

  22. Sounds like it has potential but as others have said, the new sensor will have to prove it’s actually better at high iso. If it could be really clean to 6400 iso and truly usable to 12800 than it will be of interest to me. Hope Sony addresses the overheating issue as well!

  23. The NEX-5n is already a great 16MP camera with a better sensor than most users actually need. It remains to be seen if the new sensor in the NEX-6 is also a better sensor. I will be interested in reading the reviews.

    1. “The NEX-5n is already a great 16MP camera with a better sensor than most users actually need.”

Thats a weird statement. I would want the best I could afford regardless if its a consumer, prosumer or professional. I just dont understand that statement. What do most users need?

  24. The Wifi is the only thing I noticed. Possible full wireless control of the camera via android phone. Pleas Sony add this to all cameras. Its insane that nearly all other camera makers have wireless live view and full camera control for at least the past 3 years. There isnt any 3rd party device which allows for it either on sony cameras.

  25. If the sensor behaves like the Nex-5n one regarding manuell lenses, I will buy this one for sure ! Right now I use the Nex 5n and skipped the Nex 7…

    1. Praises towards NEX-5N sensor are quite baseless.
It doesn’t provide same level of DR as both K-5 and D7000 do (I missed it several times) + it’s a bit worse in color depth and high iso noise than both these cameras. It doesn’t work well with RF WA lenses too (my Leica Super Elmar 18 is sharp only at the center. It has significant smearing at the edges, no matter what the aperture is. The worst is it’s better at M9s edges (full frame) than at the edges of NEX).
So, I really hope Sony will solve these problems: they will benefit from this anyway, this will let them to design more compact WA lenses with better optical quality.

      1. Personally, I don’t think that the Super Elmar 18 is a good fit for the NEX, which is after all a very affordable enthusiast camera. The aperture of your lens yields almost no bokeh, which is a the main reason to step up from a compact to the 5N. Given the price, the 5N sensor is still very competitive and fun, even though it is of course surpassed (after all, it is a couple years old already).

I do not see corner smearing with the Zeiss 24 when stopping down, so perhaps you have a problem with an uneven focal plane, the particular lens, a misaligned sensor or the Leica adapter?

  26. Not interested in any control dial or viewfinder. I am a slow user with low iso, I am most interested in photo quality, good dynamic range, hoping for a 24megapixel bionz processor cheap nex, perhaps 3 series in future. What is more important is result on the photo…

  27. Yessssss. Looking good, looking really good.

All I need to hear is that it doesn’t have a touch screen and I’m trading in my current gear to buy the NEX 6.

  28. The perfect Nex has high-iso, steady shot inside, tri-Navie and a rotatable viewfinder for vertical photography.

  29. Other then what was mentioned so far I´d be happy to see a mic input and audio controls. In-body IS would be awesome but I really doubt it.

  30. $899 would be a great price. Lower still ($799) would be an amazing price, but it may cannibilize 5R sales at that price point.

  31. I’d settle for firmware that lets me disable/reassign the damn video button. Ideally, it would be physically MOVED to a less obnoxiously easy to activate location, but now we’re talking pie-in-the-sky wishes here.

  32. I don’t believe it will be 16mp.
I believe it’s a 20mp, just to have higher pixel count than eosM.
Sony knows very well who’s its main competitor (and it’s not nikon LOL)

  33. I already have 16mp sensor in my c3. So now I should spend more money to replace what I have with what I already have???

    1. If you don’t want to spend on another 16MP camera, stay with your C3. If you want something else, buy the NEX-7 (Based that you’re more interested in another MP count), but for some people, even the same 16MP sensor is not an issue. Ergonomics (having an EVF compared to your model that was released before the EVF was created) and better controls (tri-navi that your model doesn’t have) is good enough reason to get the NEX-6.

  34. I just bought a Sony RX100, very nice pocket camera.
But if this rumor is true and Sony also release some small lenses
I again have to buy a camera 🙂

This is maybe just what I have been waiting for latest 2-3 years.

  35. touch screen might be handy if it had sliders for shutter and Fstop or some other user picked ajustments

  36. NO, it is not the perfect NEX…if it doesn’t come with the NEX-7/NEX-5N accessory/A65/A77 EVF then it’s not the perfect NEX. The most awaited camera? Yes it is. But not perfect.

    1. nearly perfect answer, would be perfect if this sensor have phase autofocus and the new EVF, which is better than the NEX7.

  37. NEX-5n is $699 and NEX-7 is $1349 on Amazon US site.
So a $999 price is possible, but that’s a lot money for a NEX.
I like to see what we get in the 5N successor for $699 first.
Would like to see the lower EVF in modular form.

    1. Nikon J2 is $892.40US
      No viewfinder
      1″ sensor
      No articulated screen
And even fewer lenses than NEX
      But it comes in white
      😉

  38. SONY finally needs to add some quality lenses to the lineup. The system is only a couple years old, yet we are facing the SEVENth body now! Fast normal lens? Fast quality zoom? Quality wide angle? Quality tele … ?

  39. It has a sony hot shoe, I can’t use that. At least I can use my canon lenses with the adaptor, but I have to manually focus, I hope it has focus peaking. Good idea to drop the pixel count, this is an enthusiast camera, why does an enthusiast need 24 mp, it would be better to have less noise and still be able to print large prints. I can’t understand why it would be a less resolution evf.

    1. This is the wonderful Canon “Tri-Navi” that I miss on the Sonys, even the Nex-7: http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/compacts/images/g11/D3S_8036-1200.jpg

Dedicated wheels for ISO, exposure and PASM (including two freely chosen configs, which include all your favorite settings for a special case, like HDR with a medium image resolution, MF and focus assist turned on). Also, a handy button for targeted exposure metering, and a wheel that you can set to aperture control.

The Canon setup gives you full and immediate control over all camera features without recourse to menus. I never need to make compromises with the settings, because my motive is running away or because turning a feature on and off would just be too much hassle. Being able to see the ISO directly on the button is invaluable, because sometimes you may have left last night’s setting on and notice much too late that you just spent a whole day taking noisy pictures.

  40. nex-f3, nex-5r , nex-7 and nex-6 what the hell to many choices … few lens sony is really giving us body and no lens in sight (not until sep)

rx100 look more favorable ^^ less expensive now heh

  41. PLEASE SONY in the next NEX iteration, make that camera with a new 16mpx and the best EVF of the time, i will buy it! With all of my heart!

  42. Will Sony make new alpha lens adaptor for NEX using the new focus system similar to A99 i.e. 102 focus points?

  43. Shouldn’t a camera approaching $1,000 at least try to compete with the em5, which will probably be at least a half-year old before this is released?
It could have a better sensor, but right off the bat we know that it’ll likely lack IBIS, likely not be weatherproofed, probably have worse autofocus, likely be larger, and have a weaker family of lenses to choose from.

These aren’t absolute must-have features, but without something really innovative, I’d hope to see something like this come in at a innovative price point. Body-only for ~800 or less would definitely spark my interest.

  44. I think 24mpix is just perfect and people complaining don’t know what they’re talking about IMHO. But sure, give them 16mpix and make them happy. I assume the NEX-6 would lose TriNavi and have a lower res EVF (that is sad!). It will be a NEX-5 with the EVF integrated, that’s it.

Now, let’s hear about a NEX-7 successor with IBIS and GPS!

      1. Who say’s it won’t? What would be the point in using a lower res evf? Surely, using an existing product would be cheaper than developing a new one?
If they are deliberately engineering it to be less good than the 7 then forget it. It’s all specultion at the moment of course.

  45. The only thing I concern is whether the color shift problem of M-mount wide angle lenses has been properly corrected.

  46. my only concern is nex is getting BIGGER …. the nexf3, maybe nex5r – and the nex-6 maybe that’s why they introduced the rx100?

  47. Is there’s any other different beside of the Sensor and the EVF….? dual customizable Mode Dial? Hot Shoe? Flip Mon?

If the above 3 part is still exist or more advance then NEX-7 , then it will be a very attractive cams. I Love NEX-7 , but same as the others, I don’t like the sensor. So NEX-6 will be my choice~ 😀 ( IBEVF is not my concern…)

  48. Good news for product development. But some people dont want to keep on buying each year for a body. An firmware update/improvement on past products will be much more appreciated. Sony’s technology is getting too excited but there are people who dont want to feel being left on the side.

  49. I am sorry but 16MP is no go for me. I cannot accept for $650 RX100 in my pocket out resolve my main camera. I don’t know why people are complaining about 24MP sensor. It gives up NOTHING compared to the 16MP sensor.

    1. You serious, bro? The Nex 7 sensor is said to be slightly more noisier than the 5N. So, yes, you do give up something.

And generally that’s the case — though not universal … the more pixels you cram into a sensor, the noisier it gets.

  50. not thing special. this is just like early case where by user think that A57 will be king of ISO, or tremendous performance over A77, but apparently is not at ALL.

So now we have Nex6, it gonna goes to be the same 🙂

  51. Again there’s nothing especial about it. A57 announced that its a new 16 megapixel sensor! Sony, pls. im tired. bring back the OVF!

  52. See, it pays to give feedback. Now all the 24mp defenders will have to decide whether or not to defend the NEX7’s 24mp sensor when the 16mp sensor will be a much better overall choice.

Not that the NEX7 performed badly, because it actually performs pretty well sensor wise- but now, a more sensible all around sensor is intro’d. Watch it fly off shelves.

Smart Move Sony, SMART. Glad you listened.

  53. Well, it may be a bit less high end than the 7 that I recently bought, but if that 6-sensor.. and even more innovativeness? So, should I.. ? Is 6 less than 7?

  54. I wonder if NEX 6 will replace the current 5 as the mid level metal body, while the next 5 body pushed down market with plastic body?

More affordable bodies on NEX and a higher priced mid level solution. Sounds like a win win for Sony.

    1. That’s a good point! the NEX 5R is rumoured to have the 180 flip screen like the F3, Surely the NEX 6 won’t have such a consumerist screen too? The regular articulated screen (like 5n) more suited to professionals might be more likely. Seems unlikely to downgrade one model to plastic to upgrade another but Sony’s got to juggle the specs between 3 models somehow!

  55. So has the high MP = High Noise debate still going on? I’m still not sure what to make of it. I’ve heard many things for and against the theory. From what I’ve read, the more megapixels will naturally have more noise, but not necessarily a more noise-to-pixels ratio. Most comparison shots(100% crops) are not magnified proportionally, so a 24mp file crop will appear more magnified than a 16mp file crop. This means the 24mp file will be under extra scrutiny when looking for noise. If that crop is “zoomed” out to match a 16mp viewing area, then the two are quite comparable or at least there’s no solid evidence that the higher resolution sensor will produce more noise per pixels.

The only things that really seem to be proven is that higher megapixels do indeed offer more detail(depending on lens, of course).

    1. You NEED NEX body with sensor that handles short flange distance well. This will help to design cheap and still compact lenses.

  56. Sony NEX is not meant to be perfect camera, not even serious photographers’ camera. So NEX-6 won’t be perfect.

  57. Sony NEX-6 with 16MPX for $950. A great camera?

Yes! Looks good! (80%, 2,673 Votes)
    nothing special. (20%, 653 Votes)

    Total Voters: 3,326

  58. EVF & hotshoe that works with Pocketwizards or Phottix = Dump my Nikon D7000 for Sony. Nikon and Canon need not apply

  59. It’s nothing special unless it has direct dials. Shitty menus => yet another toy. MPs are for geeks and marketing people.

  60. Wasn’t sony supposed to do a sensor like the Foveon? 16mp “foveon” should give more res then the nex 7…
But I suppose it’s not for this time…

  61. Totally absurd-but-amusing food-for-thought that just came to me:

    Wasn’t the Olympus OM-D sensor a Sony-sourced 16mp sensor? ;P

  62. Since the A65 has 2.4 MP OLED viewfinder and the 24 MP sensor and sells for $1000 with kit lens, the NEX-6 with a 16 MP sensor should have the 2.4 MP viewfinder and sell for <$1000 with kit lens. If it does, I'm in.

    1. Or compare to a NEX-5N with kit lens ($700) plus accessory 2.4 MP Viewfinder ($275) = $975. A lower resolution viewfinder would not makes sense if the NEX-6 is priced ~$1000.

  63. im hoping for dedicated video mode – i mean proper video live view even before recording. and all manual settings while recording (incl. WB)

  64. Sony should produce their own version of Panasonic spec-heaven of a camera FZ-200: 25mm-600mm with constant f2.8 aperture. I really like the build quality of their HX megazoom series. Use the large & beautiful RX100 sensor but use a lower zoom factor of 12X (instead of 24X with the Pana). With an exceptional Macro capability, Sony would make a killing in this segment. Their RX100 has already become a perennial favorite at amazon.com.
