Part two of the “Everyone Loves the RX100” reviews roundup :)

Pop: Shot on Sony RX100 from Philip Bloom on Vimeo.

It’s really amazing to see how well perceived the RX100 is. SAR readers sent me so many new reviews that I already have to post a next reviews wrap up! (By the way thanks for all the SAR readers help!).

First of all the RX100 sales success never stops. It still sells more than any other mirrorless or DSRL or High end compact camera at Amazon US (Click here to see the ranking) and slowly climbing the rankings at Amazon UK and Amazon Germany too. So let’s take a look at some of the most recent new tests:

The well know filmmaker and blogger Philip Bloom (Click here) usually tests heavy and expensive video stuff only but he could not resists to take a look at the Sony RX100 too: “This is aVERY small camera with a crap load of stuff in it and it does most of it, from what I have so far, very well. The best pocket camera I have used to date, beating my beloved Canon S100.” You can see some videos on his website (one of them I embedded on top of this post).

An enthusiastic review has been posted by the guys from The Verge (Click here): “Sony’s RX100 is nothing short of the best all-around compact camera I’ve ever seen. Where mirrorless cameras made waves by downsizing DSLR-quality photos into a package you could throw into your coat, the RX100 does the same for your jeans. It’s really no exaggeration to say that it produces images roughly on par with an average DSLR and kit lens combination, making this a revolutionary camera that means you’ll always be in a situation where you can take genuinely high quality pictures.”

That’s not all. Here is a super fast link roundup of more reviews:
Sample Photos at SonyAlphaLab. Sony RX100 Hands-On Review at Photographybay. The french website LesNumeriques posted the full RX100 review and the camera earned five stars out of five. 1. Short DOF can be nice when used to enhance the experience. Not for the sake of technical possibillity, especially when the interesting stuff is out of focus and just annoying. This was definitely not normal Philip Bloom class.

Besides, we are not interested! 🙂

Give us solid facts and fresh information about the A99 like you promised to release every hour instead of some filler content!!! 😉

I still don´t beleive this hot shoe rumor, please post a denial.

    A900 was released on August 20 2008
    A550 och A850 was released on August 27 2009
    A580 was released on August 24 2010
    A77 was released on August 24 2011

Can we expect A99 to be released on the 24th or 27th this month?

    Any news on the lenses?

    /Mats

    1. Not your interest, but it can be on many others’

Although there are many interested in the a99 as well as you, it does not give anyone the right to opinion on Andreas’ work here because if not for him, you would just be in the shadow or looking at photorumors.com or mirrorlessrumors.com and so on and bitching about how much Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Fuji, Panasonic…etc get so much space and not much for Sony.

Have a wank if the newest post doesn’t suit your fancy.

        1. Mats, I know that you think RX100 is a really good camera in its category.

But irony is very dangerous on the Internet, even with Smileys! These are very ofthen missed even by experienced forum readers.

And, as Patrick said, there are a huge bunch of people in the world interested in the RX100. Probably far more than are interested in FF SLT cameras!
          .

          1. I love the RX100 too.

But fact is that tis site is Sony Alpha Rumors.
RX100 is not a Sony alpha, it is a Cybershot.

Whatever, the A99 will be released eventually. Just curious where those promised hourly reports went…

            /Mats

          2. Yeah, sure, this site is called Sony Alpha Rumors, but if the admin doesn’t have a certain rumor, he can take whatever time it’s required to have it confirmed by certain sources and in the meantime, come up with reviews and news from High end Cybershot or low end Alpha and Alpha NEX and even cheap lenses for A or E mount.. But for the moment, I can tell you, it will have a magnesium alloy body. Wait for it! 😉 There you go, your hourly report.

I’m fine with whatever comes from Sony and the Imaging Division. Cybershot, Alpha, Alpha NEX, if it’s revelant to the current userbase, it will appear here including the “GoPro” competitor.

  2. Have my RX100 for about a week now as well (like Mando) and I must admit that chances are pretty high my NEX kit will gather a lot of dust the coming weeks, months if not years. There is even a chance I will sell my NEX. the RX100 is THAT good!

Yes there are some super fancy nancy lenses for the NEX (super fast ones, super wide ones, fisheye ones etc) that enable you to make even prettier pictures, but doing shoots where I absolutely need those lenses are few and far between.

  3. Nikon must be scratching their heads “why didn’t we think
The one series have its appeal… But if it had been in RX form, They could have sold loads more…

  4. Actually, “Everybody loves the RX100” is more like “Everybody but Ken Rockwell likes the RX100”. 🙂

  5. The RX100 looks like a great camera. Now Sony just need to make a larger sensor interchangeable lens camera (and the lenses to go with it) that is as much of a game changer as the RX100 appears to be. Current SLT and NEX cameras just aren’t quite there.

  6. Have my RX100 for about a week too.
Surprisingly good still and video quality.
The user interface is great and informative with all the numbers above and under the picture – and the ring is stunning easy to use.

Have done some video comparisons RX100 vs Sony CX700 and it seems to me that the RX100 gives more detail.
Wonder if Sony will make future high-end cameras in the CX series with that sensor too – that would really be impressive.

  7. Looking forward to trying the RX100 for a number of reasons. Not only as a quality large sensor compact, but to examine the great 1 inch sensor mystery. How can the Nikon 1 be an epic fail, biggest POS camera, etc., etc., and the RX100 be the greatest thing since sliced bread? Answers on a postcard please.

    1. the nikon 1 is not an epic fail, but it hasn’t struck the right balance between body/lens and sensor size. if it isn’t going to fit in apocket either way, then people seem to want a much larger sensor. i still feel that we’ll eventually see a camera system with something like a 1″ sensor and really small, interchangeable retractable lenses. like lenses the size of these premium compacts. i mean it’s not a stretch to imagine being able to detach such a lens.

  8. I picked up an RX100 based on what I saw coming out of a friend’s Nikon V1. His files looked really good and he carries that thing everywhere! I have an NEX 5N which is terrific but definitely made some shot with my iPhone that I wished I had a better camera handy. Now I do.

The RX100 is SOOO easy to carry and the thus far the files look terrific! The menu system is easy and frankly better than the NEX’s. Focus and shutter lag are non-existent! It’s really quick! Yes, it’s pricey and you can buy some some seriously nice cameras for similar money. But this one feels promising! Happy to have a camera I don’t have to think about whether to carry or not. That’s huge for me! When I go out with the intent to make pictures I prefer the flip-up screen and viewfinder of my NEX, or my buttery soft shallow depth of field full frame DSLR.

But the RX100 compliments those cameras nicely!
