New NEX-7 shipment news. Ebay madness: NEX-7 auctions over $3000!

Sonystore just issued a new press release: “Hello XXXXX. We wanted to provide you with a quick update on the status of your order for the new Sony NEX-7 camera. Sony has begun shipping the first orders for the NEX-7 bodies.  As we continue to ramp up production, we expect to begin shipping NEX-7 Lens and Body Kits  towards the end of February 2012. We appreciate your continued patience during this challenging time. This will be our final communication regarding the NEX-7 delays unless new information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Sony Customer Care
store.sony.com”

In summary, body only will ship in January and the kit version in February. Meanwhile ebay auctions are going crazy. The few NEX-7 I found on ebay sold for more than $3.000!!!

here are a couple of current auctions:

  1. It makes no sense. You can get the 24mm f/1.8 at online stores right now. and then just order a body and you would be way ahead of the game. Seems silly.

    1. The kit doesn’t come with the 24/1.8. It comes with the black kit zoom. I pre-ordered on Aug. 24th, and I decided to order with the kit zoom, because I wanted it for stabilized video (don’t plan on using it for still photos.) So, essentially, all of us that chose the kit and preordered early are pushed to the back of the line, which stinks.

      1. The point I was trying to make was that compared to $3000 for an online auction you could get the body only and zeiss for a whole lot less money right away.

    2. Value is a subjective thing.

Apparently, to the people who are bidding, spending the money to have it earlier isn’t silly.

      Many reasons..

Could be just plain impatience + lots of spare cash or an important trip/event that’s just round the corner.

      1. How is it not silly? There are not many reasons. Perhaps if it was a classic discontinued camera but this is already back in production. Why defend moronic impatient people? I bet those same people don’t help out needy people or give to charities. That money can be used elsewhere than having something a month earlier. It’s thinking like that that brings us to the poor state of economy we’re experiencing.

  2. The second auction ends on Dec. 25th. Big mistake. It can’t be used as a very exclusive Christmas present. I don’t think it will sell for nearly as much as the 3-day auction ending today.

  3. That sucks. I originally had the body only on preorder but decided I wanted the black kit lens and changed my preorder 3 weeks later. Oh well, it’ll give me a chance to see what Fuji intros at CES.

  4. nice demand & supply… easy way to cash in really. if one really wanted a nex-7 but also wanted to cash in, just order 2 of them so you can have 1 and sell 1 and earn back the 1 you bought O_O dang, i’m gonna do this for nex-7n 😛

  5. All craziness, but the best one is this one: USA eBay Item number: 140663920024 that one looks like it went for $250.00! Boy I wish I’d known before the bidding ended.

  6. Good grief, if the black lenses are in that short supply I’d have been happy with a silver one. Why is it that they’re charging an extra $100 for the same lens as compared to the 5n, incidentally?

    1. Now I get why the body only is set for January release while the kit bundle is due February… they’re busy painting silver kit lenses black with sharpie pens…

  7. Goes to show that there are rich people that buy things just to be exclusive than buying for its true purpose…

think of how many people you can feed with that extra $2000. oh well… its better to be famous I guess.

    1. People can do whatever they want with their money. Who are you to say they are buying it to be exclusive and they won’t take pictures with it?

If you feel that strongly about the poor, maybe you should donate all your money to charity?

      1. I am saying there are a number of people not all people. You jumped into conclusion and came up with that Generalization.

        1. But the comment from Anonymous still stands. Job you have access to the internet so are obviously not “poor” you are “rich” compared to starving people of Africa and the like.

If you feel strongly about the poor give all your money to them, or at least cancel your internet access and sell your camera gear and donate the money to the poor. How about joining an organisation and getting to a poor country to help dig water wells?

Of course you will not because you aren’t that serious about helping the poor at all and neither am I!

          1. Internet connection access = rich guys? lol Wifi is free in most establishments.

The question is Will You also spend as much as $3000 also?? if not then you got my point…

I must admit that they have the right to spend whatever they want because its their money… but you will soon realize the importance of what I am saying if you no longer have the richness.

  8. Some people have more money than brains – not because they spent so much on a camera (that’s their choice), but because with a little legwork it’s possible to find a store with a NEX-7 in stock at the list price. Or at least it has been the past few days.

  9. Why am I not able to cancel an order with SonyStyle after all the delays? Called and they said that I couldn’t cancel, but could send it back, unopened, after I got it for a refund…Thanks Sony…

    1. In the UK we would get the money back from our credit card issuer as the goods have not been delivered. The credit card issuer would then pursue Sony for the money.

  10. That’s just plain silly! Two months from now they are going to regret it.
I honestly don’t understand the psychology behind this phenomenon. But then again, I’m sure Sony will be chuffed to bits over this. Normally only Leica’s get such a crazy response from gear heads. They must have done something right.

    1. It isn’t silly for somebody who wants it as a Christmas gift and has plenty of money. Some would say it is equally silly for people here to spend money on a NEX-7 at retail cost.

It’s all relative to the disposable income of the buyer who could be a millionaire, not YOUR disposable income.

      1. I still say it is plain silly. My disposable income is generous enough and I know what it’s like to spend large sums on luxury items, that doesn’t justify taking leave of my senses. It is easy enough to pre-order and put a nice card under the tree to create a surprise gift. A few weeks waiting isn’t going to kill anyone.

Millionaire or not, there is no justification for paying US$3,761 for a US$1,200 NEX7 body.

        1. I’ve heard a saying that goes along the lines of “If a fool has money, make sure you get it from him – you’d find a much wiser way of spending them”. 🙂

        2. Amen +1 Forbes…

@a77 I hope you are no the one on Ebay… coz sounds like you are justifying the outrageous spending…

  11. Just picked up my Nex-7 body in Sydney, Australia.

Considered listing it given that there’s none for sale in Australia yet…but I think I’d rather have it for Christmas 🙂

  12. I sold my first one on EBay for $2200 buy it now (I was not too greedy, although after seeing $3500+ I was thinking about it)on Friday. I ordered another from the Sony store yesterday and just got a shipping date of Dec 20, 2011 with next day delivery. The original date when I put the order in was April 3, 2011 but I added the $21 for next day delivery and the date was changed to Dec 20 today. Hoping that it isn’t an error.
