Triple review: E-M1 (Luminous Landscape), GM1 and GX7.

Panasonic GM1 review by Digital Camera World.

Here is a triple MFT camera review roundup. And great to read that all reviewers liked all three cameras! Luminous Landscape (Click here) focus is on the great FT Lenses coupled with the new E-M1:

Olympus ended up creating a line of zoom lenses that remains unsurpassed from a single manufacturer. A few L series and Gold ring lenses from Canon and Nikon may be comparable, but likely none are better. Ironically, now that they have a world-class camera in the E-M1, and sensor size is no longer the issue that it was a decade ago, together with their Pro series lenses from a decade ago Olympus has a stealth combination that will appeal to any Pro and advanced amateur who knows that this combo exists.

The new GM1 got tested at Expertreviews (Click here):

The GM1 represents a major milestone with its genuinely pocketable dimensions. The fact that image quality, video quality and performance show no signs of compromise is even more impressive.

GX7 review at Imaging Resource (Click here):

The Panasonic GX7 handles virtually everything an advanced photographer would it expect it to, and handles it rather well. It’s a great value, too, offering most of the features and functionality of high-end, flagship Micro Four Thirds models, but without any pro-level overkill. There’s no question: The Panasonic GX7 is a clear Dave’s Pick.

  1. No, I’m not Ben Pitt, I’m just commenting on his review of the GM1.

First, I have to wonder about a site called “Expert Reviews” that covers everything from cameras to computers to auto accessories. Just how “expert” can they be.

And who is Ben Pitt, I wondered? What makes him an “expert.” A few Google searches, and it appears what he mostly does is write camera reviews for blogs. There’s little evidence of any actual expertise as a photographer.

Pretty much all he does is regurgitate specs and comments you could read in dozens of other places on the web. He says nothing about how this camera actually handles, given it’s small size, nor the limitations that come with the small size. I could have written the same “review,” and I’ve yet to even see, much less handle, the camera.

I have no beef with the GM1. I’m sure it’s a great little camera. I guess I’m just frustrated with what passes for information and reporting on the internet today.

    1. Those types of reviews are for the uninformed masses. These are the same people who subscribe to Consumer Reports and purchase all of their electronics based on the magazine’s recommendations.

If you visit this site, you do not belong to that group. There are other reviewers that cater to us.

        1. I’m pretty sure at least two of the top three “DSLR-like” cameras in a recent Consumer Reports issue were Micro Four Thirds cameras. So what do they know? 🙂

    2. Benn Pitt has worked as a freelance journalist since 1997 and specializes in photography (and video production) for the music business.

  2. I don’t know why this Photog, David Thorpe Doesn’t get more credit for his well thought out Reviews of Micro Four Thirds gear… His Review of the GX7 is Outstanding! Admin, you should follow his YouTube channel!

    1. Have to agree with you on Thorpe.

Non nonsense but somehow dryly humorous and straight to the point. What works, why it’s good (or bad) and how he uses it himself.

Great reviewer on the things that matter. Gets right to the point.

  3. Pretty much every camera they’ve ever reviewed at imaging resource has been a Dave’s pick so that’s not really a useful endorsement.

    1. luckily literacy in this country is sufficiently high that the rest of us can read the content contained inside the review

  4. Right away she says “this camera and lens combo is smaller than the sony rx100 mk ii” which is a blatant lie. The gm1 body is smaller, yes. but with any lens (other than the 15mm body cap) this will be larger than the rx100.

  5. Am I missing something? There’s no review of the EM-1 on LL that I could find. The link offered goes to a different article, not a review. Did they have a review and pull it?
