Gerhard: “I had a great week in Burma in June, documenting Australian photographer Jack Picone using the fairly new Fujifilm X100S in Burma, which some people, still refer and prefer to call Myanmar. I travel to Myanmar, from my base in Bangkok, roughly every second month, especially since the country is experiencing a speedy but bumpy transition. I used the Lumix GH3 with the Lumix 12-35mm f2.8 lens. The GH3 has worked great so far, except I had had both my GH3’s cleaned, due to dust on sensor. Also the flip out EVF, became very lose on one of the GH3, so I had to have it replaced. So feel free to post it on your blog. http://jorenfilms.com/videos/jack-picone-in-myanmar-shooting-with-fujifilm-x100s/”

Mike: “I wanted to share my recent video project with you: http://vimeo.com/hedgepigtheatre/playboy. Mostly shot on my Panasonic GH3 along with a few stock video shots, the footage has been heavily post-processed to give the appearance of VHS, albeit in high definition. The video is designed to be a spoof tourism film, which is promoting a play for a local theatre company in York, England.”

Darren: “I posted this review on YouTube just over a month ago, it’s been viewed slightly north of 700 views and it has garnered 19 likes and no dislikes – for whatever that’s worth. You can find the ‘real world’ review here: http://youtu.be/tVMzQNy5Mfw“

JJ Semple: “A link to a recent trip during which we used the Oly E-PL5, the iPhone 4S, and the iPad 3, as the situation warranted: http://jjsemplephotography.blogspot.com/2013/06/europe-doesnt-seem-so-bedraggled.html”

Anonymous: “I recently re-launched a newly designed version of my NYFalls.com website, which features waterfalls, lakes, and other great locations to shoot in Upstate New York. The photography has been all done on Olympus 4/3 cameras: E300, E510, E30, E620, and E5.”

Grant: “We have a simple review of what it’s like to travel for 6 weeks with a large om-d kit : http://thisisnotaprint.blogspot.com“

Lisandra: “Im an admin over at e-p1.net and im a working pro with micro 43s. The reason im writing you is because I recently discovered the omd em5 goes below iso 200 on occasions when you use flash. It goes as low as iso 80!! Other members tried it and got iso 160 and 100 so its not just my camera!.       Heres a link to the discussion,  the photo, and screen grabs from lightroom that show the iso 80 metadata. Feel free to use the photo, it has the metadata intact. If you post it ill contribute to the comments and wny questions your users might have: http://e-p1.net/coffee-talk/em5-does-iso-80/msg105374/?topicseen#new”

Light Blaster: “Our Light Blaster is finally alive and kicking. I am attaching the regular mail below. If you could help spread the word with your blogs I would be grateful here is the announcement link: http://www.diyphotography.net/light-blaster-reality-altering-strobe-based-projector”

Irfan: “https://vimeo.com/68496199 Movie: Micro Four Thirds “Baseball”. Camera ~ Lumix GH3 Series”

Pasha: “Just saw your article on the sigma 18-35/f1.8. Its understandble that sigma does not want to invest in 4/3 but im still using 4/3 gear with e410 e420 and e520 and some lenses (50/2 11-22/2.8-3.5 and sigma 30/1.4 and 105/2.8) along with three fl36 and in most cases that is enough for me.Im shooting with this gear for 6 years now, and i have won quiet a few awards here in greece, along with a national geographic award for best portrait, so you can do quiet a few things with this old gear. You can check my work here www.koroviev.com”

Christian: “Hello! I would like to submit you a fashion editorial I made with the OM-D. The lenses used are 12mm f2, 17mm f1.8, 75mm f1.8. You can find it from page 40, it is called Rear Journalist. Hope you like it!

Mathieu: “Hi, we thought you might be interested in sharing our article about using the Pen E-P5’s fast shutter speed (1/8000) and low ISO (100) as a way of achieving a shallow depth of field in bright sunlight without the need for ND filters. http://www.bestmirrorlesscamerareviews.com”

  1. Im the one who wrote admin about the iso 80 on the em5. Its not fake or a joke or something. Its real and I want it!!! At iso 80 I can shoot f2.8 right in the middle of 12pm 90 degree sun!
Lets generate some buzz! If the camera does it on its own then its just a firmware away!

    1. Lol. Those of us that see your work over at ep1.net believe you. Those that don’t….well their probably just trolls in any case.

Going to try this myself tomorrow. Dont use the flash much (actually almost never since my EP1). Fun and games. Have wanted iso100 and would be great not to have to overexposed just to get it.
If it is as simple as getting a firmware update we could get iso50 by overexposing?

Hope you don’t have the yakuza following you for having discovered Oly’s secret.

  2. the em5 has about 1 stop raw-headroom, so you can use iso 100 if you shoot in raw, but the preview picture will look overexposed

  3. Christian: Nice photos and article!

Here is a machine translation for those as linguistically challenged as myself:

I have always felt sympathy and admiration for innovative companies that open roads, and in the world of photography, one of them is undoubtedly Olympus. After the arrival of the digital age Olympus made a very risky in the design of their cameras that has done that at the professional level many users prefer it for other cameras of the large of the two main brands of competition (I included). But the new camera that takes approximately one year in the market has attracted much attention. So when from Olympus they offered me to try to make a fashion editorial I accepted without hesitation. The result was the editorial Rear Journalist of the previous pages.
The first thing you notice is that it is much smaller than the reflex professional and therefore lighter.
Throughout all the photo shoot what more I liked and called attention is how incredibly comfortable it was. Even with the starting handle (photo on the right), it was much lighter than the lightest of my own camera combination. My arm is never tired and not needed two hands to hold it, which made me feel freer and more comfortable throughout the entire session. Course at level hergonomico distribution and feel of the buttons it can improve, especially because the camera has a very large screen that takes up most of the space and does not leave much for the buttons. On the other hand that the camera is so small allows us to use it in day to day without us out of the way. Speed cameras autofocus SLR always has not been lower, but this is not the case of OMD. I think I can say without a doubt that I have not noticed a difference with mine, and it may even in dark situations and situations complicated as backlights OMD work best. In addition the fact being able to use the screen to frame and know that the auto focus is going to be just as fast and accurate gives a freedom when it comes to framing from difficult points that do not have with other cameras. The image stabilizer is integrated in the body so any objective will benefit from this. This does not occur with the professional reflex that they must have the stabilizer in order to (I only have one.). More freedom!
The electronic viewfinder is slower than look through an optical viewfinder but allows us to watch live as it will be the photo, and that gives more comfort and freedom aum points. The Micro four thirds Mount of
Olympus is an open standard. Or that any brand can adhere and create a camera with her. Thus, Olympus and Panasonic can share objectives, in addition to having other manufacturers that make objectives such as Leica, Voigtländer (with its wonderful f/0.95), Zeiss or Schneider. With respect to image quality, the definition does not equal to a professional SLR 35 mm sensor, but is not far away. In fact is the same than a reflex of equivalent price. The issue is that in spite of this are few situations in which is would notice this difference. But on the other hand, the tone and color seemed to me delicious. In the end what is clear is that OMD is a round product based on a technology that is increasingly going to best. Personally liked me and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

  6. That light blaster seems like a cool idea..a time saver for composites. Can have all sorts of backgrounds in studio shoots. Anyone here has tried it?

  7. Pasha: Wow! Very inspiring. Amazing images that are many notches above my mere dabblings. I will not blame sensor performance again! Well, I’ll do it less. 🙂

Didier: Ich wunderte mich, warum die post in Französisch war, wann die Produktseite auf Deutsch war. Dann realisierte ich, dass es von einem Kunden war. 🙂 Die Stativklemme sieht brauchbar aus!
