Panasonic: Three new Micro Four Thirds lenses to be announced within the year!

Panasonic unveiled at the IFA in Berlin that they will announce a total of three new lenses within 2012. As I told you before it is pretty uncertain if these lenses are just prototypes or if the lenses will ship within 2012 🙁

    1. Been banging that drum for a long time now. Surely Pana can see an open goal there. The Oly 17mm is not well liked and they don’t seem in any hurry to replace it. I can see some issue with being close to the 20mm F1.7, but if it was an F1.4 it would be different enough.

  1. A wide angle lens with fast aperature & a tele photo lens with huge aperature F1.4 would be sweet . Surely I’ll get it .
Look at the success of 45mm & 75mm , is hard to ignore even for a Pana guy .
Pana should learn from the lesson .
Make the right lenses & impress us .

    1. I agree with you. Instead of making the right lenses, they fooled around with the idea of almost the same range of tele lenses. I think it is too much and almost useless unless they use a larger aperture.

    1. They just announced an announcement. And if you know Pana, it could also mean an announcement like for the fast x lenses, which was basically just a proof of intention.

    1. This prediction sounds likeliest!

I doubt any of the Panasonic lenses will be primes this year.

I’m hoping that Sigma realeases some faster primes at Photokina but I doubt that will happen either.

  2. History indicates that Panasonic takes 1.5 years between announcement and shipping.

[edit: the nikkeibp.co.jp article clearly states that the 3 lenses will start selling this year, so I stand corrected…]

  3. The only glass im looking forward to getting more info on is the schneider 14 that was announced a few months back…hopefully they talk some more at photokina

  4. To fill the gap there is necessary:
    – small prime wide angle
    – fast equivalent 35mm
    – long telephoto – longer then 75mm (150 equiv.)
    – long tele, faster then f/5.6 (e.g. 90-250 f/4)

    1. +100
Its really necessary for panasonic to make A FAST Telephoto with OIS ,something they never done before on 43 body, if Olympus FILL AGAIN this demand to deliver the Fast telephoto Glass for m43 body, there is no choice for us but TO HAVE TO BUY another Olympus body camera with 5-AXIS IBIS.
      just like o 43 body.

so it will be good and wise direction if they can give us the fast telephoto;as they attend to get a professional level camera, something like this :

      F2/100mm OIS, F2/150mm OIS , F2/200mm OIS, F2.8/300mmOIS also a zoom,..

      90-250mm /f2.8-4

as a contrary ,.if Olympus would be the one who announce those kind of lens above,.I believe many of us who understand ,WILL JUST WAIT FOR THE NEXT OMD- PRO BODY , INSTEAD OF GH3.

  5. People keep forgetting that they already announced 2 new lenses the 12-35 and 45-150 as for the third it will be 35-100.

    1. Exactly. Panny have leaked so much in advance the announcements are just a formality.

This means even the expected weather-sealed 14-140 won’t make it this year – so presumably the GH3 won’t ship this year either.

      1. Well, Panasonic needs to announce GH3 soon so that they have few samples to sell by christmas and wider availability some time next year.

  6. Given the length of time between the announcement of the 12-35 and 35-100, even if they do announce 2 more lenses at Photokina it’s all but certain they won’t be available for many months.

  7. 1 is certainly 35-100
2 may be the fast tele prime, which IMHO likely <100mm (there is no teleprime from Pana apart from 2,8/45 macro)
3 may be the wide zoom

  8. Major use for those biggest (and very expensive) telephoto lenses craved by some is animal/bird photography and especially later would require continuous focus which can actually track fast moving targets.
For that contrast AF is heavily handicapped by its nature and we haven’t yet heard anything from Panasonic having anykind hybrid AF.
So better not to expect Panasonic to hurry up such lenses.

    1. just make it 14-150mm ,LEICA DG VARIO elmar .a’ la 43 version in optic quality,.it will be great with F/2.8-4 aperture
