Panasonic G5 is the most sold overall camera at Amazon.

You really don’t see that usually with a Micro Four Thirds camera: Right now the most sold camera at Amazon US is the Panasonic G5 (Click here to see the ranking). This is the overall ranking containing all cameras (compact, DSLR and mirrorless). This happens because of the great G5 double lens kit deal for $437 (Click here to see it).

24hours ago I wrote how bad Mirrorless sales were doing in US and Europe. And we were questioning about the possible reasons for this. We probably need more of this kind of deals to push the sales?

  1. If Pana/Oly don’t want to spend money on advertisements, noticeable deals with tempting pricing are the right way to go. Interesting, that 75% of top 20 is taken by Canikon.

  2. I have the G5. It is actually an excellent camera with very good IQ. It is really a bargain – and you get an articulating screen, an internal EVF, 16 mp sensor, and even that excellent Panasonic video. Recommended.

    exactly.

like many, I came to m43 because it seemed like the “good compromise”.

an attractive price is a part of that – at this moment it just isn’t.

  4. Not sure what we’re saying here. I don’t think it’s positive that an m4/3 has to be on a fire sale to get top selling billing. If Ford had given away the Edsel at half price, it would have been a top seller too. It could be a negative if those considering a new camera system see m4/3 cameras as being heavily discounted.

    1. That’s because you’re more concerned with how other perceive the value of your purchases. If it’s a good deal, just buy it and don’t worry what others think.

  6. I hope panasonic is still making some money on this kit. If that’s not the case, at least selling old kits at these low price allows m43 to keep its lead in the mirrorless market. Being the “default” choice in a market, like Canon for DSLR, has a big value. Panasonic and olympus situation in the mirrorless segment is still far from the Canikon domination in the DSLR segment.

    1. That generates sales like this is always good. It then draws buyers into the system and the need for better lenses down the road when and if they warm up to the system.

  7. I don’t think the price is bad. I sometimes see the entry level Canon and Nikon DSLR kits at a similar price with a 55-200 added in.

  8. Price is the problem. Mirrorless is close enough to DSLR quality in most cases that we’re past the point where we should be paying the “new tech” markup. Fuji has figured this out. Olympus and Panasonic have to set a price with the understanding that they’re not the only compact game in town anymore

  9. We must all join hands, go forth, and spread the wonders of micro four thirds to everyone throughout the world. We must not shirk from our responsibility. We shall never be defeated by the evil asp-c sized followers. We shall be victorious! WE SHALL BE VICTORIOUS!!!

  10. The Japanese camera companies ALL over produce. The #6 Canon T3i (March 2011) is an old camera, even older than the G5.

Notice that the CIPA chart says SHIPMENTS, not sales. Those shipped cameras that don’t sell sit in warehouses waiting for the FIRE SALE.

Americans love a bargain, and the cameras companies have trained people people to wait a year before buying.

Leica knows how to play the game. “Leica warns potential M buyers of delays caused by ‘enormous demand’” http://leicarumors.com/2013/06/14/leica-warns-potential-m-buyers-of-delays-caused-by-enormous-demand.aspx/#ixzz2WW4n8Ys9 Olympus should use this strategy for the up-coming OM-D Pro, but they won’t.

  11. Let me qualify myself. I am a pro with a successful photo business that has been growing like crazy six years in a row. I was a NIkon man but after 3 cameras with back focus issues I made the switch to the Olympus OMD EM5. I have never looked back and can’t believe how stunning my images have been since making the switch. I have never ever had a camera shoot as sharp as the OMD. I was shooting a commercial event next to a photographer with the Canon 7D and he couldn’t believe I was shooting mirrorless. Then a funny thing happened, we compared images side by side and that’s when he said I can’t believe how much better your images are than mine. I now own two OMD’s, the E-pl5, E-pl1 and I will never go back to the big boys. In my opinion the OMD with the Olympus 75mm f1.8 is the most beautiful combination in the business. Being able to look through the EVF to see exactly what I am going to get is priceless. Don’t take my word for it check out all the pros who are making the switch to mirrorless. Just wish Olympus, Panasonic etc would pump more into their advertising.

    1. I think it’s awesome that photographers are starting to concentrate more on the photo quality and less on the brand. It’s my opinion that Canon is simply an overpriced package delivering old sensors and legacy glass that is no longer worth half its asking price.

My Nex 7 blows my old 5dII’s away. The Canon L lenses? Way, way, way overhyped. My Sigma primes and Sony tele blow all the Canons I used to shoot.

I totally believe you regarding your OMD and lenses.
