Yes, it will sell in Japane only and if you want to read a review than you have to click over at DC.watch (google translated). If you really really but really want the camera you can buy it through [shoplink 39299 ebay]Japanese eBay sellers (Click here)[/shoplink]. They do ship worldwide!

    1. It’s available in Europe, it has more features then the E-PL5 and it’s cheaper then the E-PL5. So no, I will not wait for an E-PL7.

  1. Gosh! A silver lens, white body and a black humongous head tumor of a EVF on top. This is typical of Olympus aesthetics!

    1. oh if only they could have made the grip in pink to match (pun intended) how well the others parts match.

    1. 🙂

The offending word seems to be やれる, which appears to mean “can” or “is possible”, as in “customizing the buttons can be considerably flexible.” Oddly, many of the other dictionaries do not have this word. I got some synonyms from:

      thesaurus.weblio.jp/content/やれる

and then ran them through google translate.

  2. I didn’t notice that E-P5 had ISO 100! I wonder if the dynamic range is better than at ISO 200. Gotta wait for DxOMark…

    1. Looking at the sample photos, ISO100 does seem a bit cleaner than ISO200. It’s hard to be sure because I also see JPEG artifacts, but there is a lot less JPEG smudge at ISO100, suggesting that the raw is less noisy. Check out the sky and the tall brick building on the left-ish-top-ish. Great details, too.

      Ooooohhh… Must resist…

(OK. This is another one of my pet peeves. Why do reviewers ever post JPEG test shots?)

      1. They publish JPEG’s because it’s at least as important as RAW’s.
If a camera produces great JPEG’s it means less PP time.
I like to use the JPEG’s straight ooc, with Olympus that’s perfectly possible in most cases.

I understand that, but they should still publish both. That way, we can assess both variables: RAW noise and JPEG engine.

Thanks for the explanation. Ah, well. I won’t get too excited about it then. 🙂

    2. ISO 100 on the E-P5 is like any “lo” extension on any other camera system. For instance, Nikon DSLRs, like Olympus, have ISO 200 as base sensitivity. In order to get any lower, under the covers, the camera will essentially overexpose, and then pull the exposure back from the RAW file, resulting in reduced dynamic range. The result might well look “cleaner” as you note, because the tonal range is compressed.

It’s a lot like pulling a film negative in development…

      1. Exactly, those extensions to lower ISO than nominal sensor sensitivity just provide a handy implementation of the “expose to the right rule” for subjects not covering the whole dynamic range. You may use them whenever you don’t actually need the full DR and then they’ll improve on image quality by reducing quantization error in the analog-to-digital conversion.

    1. And that’s not even a reason since you can use the EVF with older cameras with the new firmware anyway.

    1. Yes, exactly my thoughts.

      Is mentioning E-PL7 :

      – an informed guess, I have reliable rumors alredady
      – just usual “never happy with my brand new toy, waiting for even newer one with even greater sexyness”…

      Admin ?

      1. I think it was more like “epl6 doesnt offer anything substantial over epl5, so not a worthy upgrade – wait for epl7 that will eventually come in the future”

  3. I think when they first attached the lens and VF the first words were, “Oh…nothing matches.”

I know, we should get over it, but it’s just so easy!

  4. black VF & white body …thats nice…with the silver lens is awful

whish I have chance to loook into this VF4 to see if it is worth to buy

  5. This combination looks almost as bad as Pentax

if anyone needed proof that a little more thought should go into the colors of components, over the years as well – this is it.

    1. Oh c’mon!!!
It’s clearly a way to say “pass” on this one (especially because it is not going to be shipped outside Japan).
      No new rumors for now…
