      1. With a mic input, articulating screen, improved IBIS and framerate updates, does this indicate that Olympus is finally getting serious about video? If so, it has been long overdue.

    1. The material was probably uploaded a while ago but there’s no direct hyperlink to it just to prevent leakage. Apparently somebody sniffed it out by trying out a different product ID on the URL…

  1. Interesting to see it really is named MARK II. They seem to be taking video very seriously. They’re actually advertising iso 100! Could that mean it’s not just an extension and can actually be used without comprosing DR (like in e-m1 for example)? No af upgrades????

      1. The camera is not running on AVCHD standard so no separate NTSC/PAL mode necessary. If you need PAL framerates (25/50) the camera has it

  2. Looks amazing! Mic in and video frame rates are for real! I’ve been waiting for more video options from olympus since my EP1.

  3. Hope there is a RAW. This 40mp image is looking a bit like a sharpened 16mp jpeg 🙂 the video elements look very promising!

  4. There must be a typo with the mov resolutions.

1920×720 makes no sense at all.
If this is 1920×1080, they still don’t have 60p for full HD.

    1. I hope both of those are mistakes. Surely they would not introduce a half baked solution for video after all the complaints.

    2. If I would correct the typos…..
      24,25 & 30p in 1920×1080
      50 & 60p in 1280 x 720

so no 50/60p in full HD…..crap

    3. There’s more of those. Kevin instead of Kelvin for example. 1280×1080 instead of 1920×1080 (or 1280×720) and so on. It was clearly just a draft of the spec to be published tomorrow, so I would not rely on it that much. It’s been taken down now anyway.

Interestingly, the camera is referred to as E-M5 Mark II, not E-M5II.

  5. I can’t read the full specs, Amin would you please correct that? It’s not 4K but it is looking very good for video. I am looking forward to seeing the dimensions as well.

    1. You’re probably referring to the high resolution shooting mode section. In the shutter section it is specified that max. shutter speed at electronic shutter mode is 1/16000.

  6. Nice comparaison images, but the red rectangle in the 16mpx is on the blue sky. The 16mpx looks blury and the 40mpx overprocessed. Seems not “real” images but photoshopped ones. Wait and see.

And i hate thoses website that transform text into image, you can’t translate it.

    1. Yep, the high-res comparison looks like a quick photoshop job done by an intern 🙂 It’s clearly the same picture with sharpening turned up to 11.

      1. The camera probably auto sharpens and applies 24 megabytes worth of junk data to up the file size.

        i kid….. i kid…..

        1. Actually, you’re probably right. Even if you turn down sharpness to minimum, the camera still applies significant sharpening to JPEGs. It’s like that on my E-M10 and I have no reason to believe it’s any different on other models. That’s one of the reasons why I shoot RAW exclusively and don’t bother with OOC jpegs.

That’s why it’s so exciting that this high-res mode will produce RAW files. That will actually make it a usable feature instead of a nice gimmick.

  7. Af upgrades and theyre existence will make it or brake it for me. 11 fps/ 5 fps numbers somewhere in there don’t sound promising, disappointing 🙁

    1. Olympus have sequential shooting High and Low, so that is probably what those figures mean. High 11fps an Low 5fps

        1. I’m no good with traditional Chinese, but it does seem 11 FPS is with IS off, exposure and AF calculated from the first image in the sequence.

        1. Where is this “typical of super resolution processing?” Certainly doesn’t look that way for Hasselblad. What’s most likely is that that’s a simulated shot or early firmware result for a press release. Happened with the EM5 originally and early shots.

          1. I’ve seen it frequently in my superresolution workflow with my GH2 or my E510 before that.
Slight oversharpening artifacts, increased noise in flat out zones (sky) but noticeable increase in resolution.
But judging by the amount of oversharpening I’m now willing to accept these are marketing images and thus not representative of real results.

      1. My 4 year old GH2 has those video specs.
Seriously? Is this all that Olympus could pull?
A 4 year old video specced camera? No FullHDp60? That is just apalling…

  8. 63.7MP RAW? That is a lot of pixels. One file is enough to occupy a devoted pixel peeper for
days. Hopefully they will have less free time to communicate their OCD on the web.

    1. I replied on another post, but I guess it is a 5″ HDMI monitor, and at a guess from the button layout, it might be a Marshall V-LCD50-HDMI 5-Inch Camera-Top Monitor.

  9. Does 1/16000 electronic shutter means the shutter can be completely silent (as already found in many panasonic m43 cameras for example)?

  10. Very exciting to see they have a specific “OMD Movie” section on their press release. Olympus are going for it! Mic input – woo! This has just turned into a must-buy for me. Already looking forward to first video review.

  11. It really looks like they took the original EM5 and thought: Ok, everyone wants more video. Let’s see:
They want 24/25 p -> OK we do,
tilt-swivel screen is the shit for video -> OK we do,
higher bitrates? -> OK, we do,
mic input -> OK we do,
image stabilization video -> we did that already,
Oh, and didn’t the GH1234 come with a 14-140 video optimized lens? -> OK, we do!

This seems to me like they are opening fire on the GH series users that might have been jealous of the IBIS system and are scared by the 1.5K€ for the 4K image.

  12. I like the new swivel function of the back screen. Nice oly. I hope it can fold back to protect it. Should have been this was all along. I question the above two images though. I get the right side, but the left side? Come on- something funny is going on here. The bottom picture looks more crisp and a bit better contrast. I trust KNOW ONE- I think these images are being edited.

    1. The twisty LCD is similar to what Olympus used on the E-3/E-5. On the E-3/E-5 you could fold the monitor so it faced into the camera to protect it. IIRC, the Olympus FL-BK03 and FL-BK04 flash brackets were designed so that you could have the LCD screen out on the left hand side. One thing you can do with the monitor is swivel it so that when the camera is on a tripod, you can see the monitor from the subject, which made it simpler to set up the camera for taking portraits (or for taking selfies).

      1. They should all be this way. Cheap-o Canon rebels have this and there was no reason for anyone to move away from it. Half these cameras end up in a purse or bag. It’s less concern to put the cap on the lens and store it without worry about scratching the back. No need for smudge magnet plastic covers either. Brilliant.

        1. No they shouldn’t. That screen is worst for street photography, macro photography, video recording and even for any work you need to do with touch screen and moving camera (tripod works etc).

Tilting screen is much better, but what Sony did with SLT-77 is best, it tilts but you can even rotate it to get it vertically tilted behind the camera. But it takes space.

          1. Tilting screen only works if you are shooting in landscape orientation. The E-3/E-5 twist LCD can support both orientations, but the LCD is away from the camera.

  13. The 40MP image here and the 16MP are both clearly made in Photoshop from the exact same (probably 16MP) source file. And are ruined by JPEG artifacts.

Not a ringing endorsement for the quality of the product. We still need to wait and see the real thing.

    1. No they are not. What you see is extra readout noise and typical output from superresolution processing .

      1. Actually, as I work with one of the largest camera companies marketing department I can tell you this is most likely the case. They have taken one 16mp shot slightly blurred it for the 16mp, and over sharpened it for the 40mp.

We have even taken 2 shots of an animal and photoshopped the animal into a different environment to show “zoom”.

        This is just marketing.

    1. Resolutions are all over the place. They mixed FHD with HD…
I’d wait for an official confirmation but it doesn’t look good for FHDp60… 🙁

  14. As I feared, the 63MP RAW is noisy.
Electronic shutter takes it’s toll. 🙁
It’s definitely much clearer than a single exposure, but not very different from what you’d get from PhotoAcute…
    Still useful though.

    1. I would bet the comparison pics are just photoshopped from the same (16 mp) img 😀 ! I remember an is-illustration pic where a snake shaking its head was blurred and in the other pic sharp with is on lol

    2. I’ve owned and used Photoacute for years, its an awful and amateurish app.
This is in a different category, fortunately.

    3. Not sure how you can say that from this single image that seems photoshopped anyway. If it’s clearer than single exposure doesn’t that contradict what you just said? Not all electronic shutters ad noise.

    4. As I mentioned in another reply to you, the fact that one image is actually soft, they have most likely taken a shot from their image banks, softened on one side and sharpened on the other.

  15. I dont know Chinese but guessing that there is mention of 3.5mm for I assume the mic but no other mention of 3.5 I can find makes me think there is no headphones jack. Another one for EM1 mkii. Classic crippled for the flagship model silliness.

  16. LOL, even the press release has a defect. The red box in the lower photo is placed wrong.

Remember when the E-M10 came out, Oly rushed production and there were issues galore. Tight mounts, stuck sensors, etc. Anecdotes on the surface until I bought my first Oly, and E-PM2 that wouldn’t hold the date. Oly support said to live with it. The store replaced it, and sent a new E-PM2 with a defective kit lens.

If they cant even get the presser right, there’s no reason to believe Oly will correct their trend of shoddy QC.

  17. I don’t understand…
Why pusblish photos with an external screen and mic (typical of a semi professional setup) when it doesn’t even go FullHDp60? Hello Olympus? It’s 2015? Anynone there?
If these frame rates are really true, it’s a sad falling short like Olympus always does. 🙁

    1. Pure marketing! It will convince those that don’t know any better that this is awesome for video when it’s really ho hum. Better than previous products? Sure. Good as Panasonic cams? No way in hell!

    2. Maybe it does go FullHDp60? Do you know something we don’t, since there seems to be a typo in the spec-sheet. Or did I miss something?

    1. Obviously, the US price hasn’t been announced yet and a quick Google search (or umpteen phone apps) will find any exchange rate…although I don’t know how that applies here unless one is going to make an eBay purchase from Hong Kong.

      1. I love mirrors going up and down, not to say ‘the pure through lens view finder” wow got excited just typing it… wow, wow, how could I live without that… clap… click.. clap.. click… just got wet… 🙁

          1. The force is weak with this one. First you make a comment about my child, now my wife. You really over-step the mark. Is Shill Incorporated hiring high school students?

          2. Some losers just attract that sort of comments. I am sure it happens a lot to you, and to most fangirls here…

          3. 🙂 Notice how many people have replied to you, then read your comment again. In fact read your run of comments. You aren’t doing your employer or message any good at all.

      1. “Mirrorless” might be the future, but m4/3 sure ain’t. This pitiful system will be a sidenote in camera history.

          1. Sales are pretty weak, I doubt Olympus has seen much profit in the last 10 years. I am a huge fan but I am prepared for the inevitable.

  18. 63 megapixel raw! Wow! That is amazing! I will be able to use this feature not just on a tripod but by resting the camera on a rock or fence post or any solid surface when I am out shooting. Plus mini tripods that are very portable will be useful. I can’t wait to get this camera! I can’t wait to use this for landscape photography! I am now happy I sold my Canon full frame setup. It was a pain carrying that brute and glass around. Anyways, I am excited about this camera.

  19. In the traditional Chinese on the “OM-D Movie” image… It says specifically you can connect 1) external microphone 2) external monitor and 3) headphones. And it can do “live monitoring of audio and video”. So, I think one can cautiously assume there’s both a 3.5mm mic AND headphone jack. Just in case somebody hasn’t done the translation yet. Hope that helps.

    1. Read deeper into the full spec sheet it says this:
      – headphone jack is available ONLY IF HLD-8G Grip is used.
      – there’s a 29 minute time limit on the .mov recording format.

      1. Of course there is a 29 minute time limit on recording movies. This is due to the European regulations that tax a camera that can record video at VGA or better for 30 minutes as a video camera, which has a higher tariff. So every manufacturer either has two models, one that is sold in Europe and is limited, and the other sold elsewhere that is not limited (Panasonic does this for the fixed lens cameras), or the manufacturer limits movies to 29 minutes and 59 seconds for all cameras (this is the Olympus solution).

        1. of course of course!! thanks very much for pointing it out, I’m just a stupid translator who doesn’t know anything. =) have a great day.

          1. I didn’t mean it to be insulting. A lot of people don’t know why the limit is there, and it comes up every six months or so in terms of a question.

  20. In the Battery Life section it says can shoot up to 750 shots with using a “Quick Sleep Mode”. I don’t know what does the Quick Sleep Mode mean but if it’s a practical function and gives 300+ more shots, then it’s very good.

    1. E-M1 doesn’t have anything like it, but you can pull 750-1200 frames in a day from one battery, depending your shooting style. Like today I got 933 frames (and every frame is RAW+JPEG so double file count) before battery went to flash red, and I have set it to +2 so it warns (AFAIK) sooner than default.

The quick sleep mode probably means the camera turns off EVF and rear LCD in 10-15 seconds from the shutter half-press.

      1. I’d expect 400 on my EM1 … battery life is one on my biggest disappointments since switching from FF .

  21. Just bought their stupid overpriced junk of an accessory the SEMA-1!!!! and was planning to glue a cold shoe adapter on top of it to slap a microphone …GRRRRRRRRRR Now I see they have finally figured it out..

  22. but they missed 1080p60 and 4K video. They also missed headphone jack. Those are pretty big omissions for the video crowd these days. We don’t know how expensive this camera will be, but not THAT much cheaper than a GH4. My LX100 does 4K by the way.. So does the new GoPro.

I do wish Panasonic had IBIS, and I do like Olympus’ 63MP raw sensor shift picture technology.

    1. Well, that remains to be seen. Besides, the truly robust video features should be found in the E-M1 II, which is the natural flagship competitor to the GH4.

  23. Those sample pics are dreadful, I hope this camera can do better than that. Come on folks, it costs 3 times as much as an entry level DSLR.

    1. And as shown before, the entry level DSLRs have much better sensors. A Nikon D5100 from 2011 smokes the EM-1.

          1. Wow.. an authentic Nikon extreme fanboy… what an honor for us…
            Still, no samples…. what a lame… hahaha

    2. DSLRs are going obsolete now. Prices will keep lowering. If you want old tech just buy it. Nobody is forcing you to buy new tech.

        1. I’m pretty sure it’s actually possible to make money scrubbing toilets, then saving up this money to buy a nice camera.

      1. Sure, the cameras that work better, take better pictures, have better ergonomics, have more accessories, have more third-party manufacturers, and are produced by much larger companies are going obsolete. LOL keep dreaming, fanboy.

    1. I would do the same thing if I lived with my mom, and the only camera available to me was her old APS-C DSLR from 2002 with kit lens.

          1. Ok, “friend”, I know you ar just trolling, but seriously. Please see attached file and tell me that APS-C is better then m43. EM-5 vs D7100. 100%. If anything, the E-M5 has the edge. Both in raw and in jpeg. At least up to 3200. Sorry to burst your bubble man.

          2. Mmmmh no. First, you need to compare the raws. Second, you must resample the photos to the same size. Don’t bother with the better cams, just take a D3200 or a 700D. Both are substantially cleaner and retain more detail. Try it, it’s fun.

          3. Well, if you read, you see the raw files up to 3200. And as this is the visual testing on preview, it really shows as truthful as you can get (no measures or pixel peeping, but actually how the images look). Also it confirms my own experience , using both my D7100, that I used to work with, and my e-m5 that I only use today. Not because fanboyism, but because the images are similar or better in the IQ department, and the package is smaller. So yes, it is actually not true that APS-C always is better then m43… But, please, do go ahead and continue to believe this is the case if that works for you, or if you have other experiences.

          4. Again, you need to resize them all to the same size. And don’t forget to adjust the exposure to match, Olympus and Panasonic usually declare higher ISO than others, so pics taken at the same ISO, aperture and speed come out darker (ie even noisier once equalized).

          5. Even in your little rigged “test”, the d7100 handles the colors better and has more detail at every ISO. It also has less noise.

          6. UM, Where is the E-M5 JPEG/RAW/ISO info??

I see it for the Nikon, But what, you Photoshopped out the E-M5 info?

            I call FOUL.

          7. That’s how you evaluate system câmeras? Fortunately you didn’t brought Canon to the game… LOL…

          8. LOL is right. If a $1400 current camera can’t compete against an entry level camera released four years ago, it is pretty funny.

          9. Bad photographers think better gear will make them better photographers. Most people would be hard pressed to tell if a photo was taken with a FF, APS-C, m43 or compact camera. If people are pixel peeping your photos instead of looking at the entire photo, you need to work on your photography skills.

            http://guesstheformat.com/stats

          10. That was pretty cool 🙂 And while I love m4/3 for various reasons, I was able to correctly identify 10 out of 10 formats on that page…so there’s definitely a difference (even though I did guess on one or two). But as a hobbyist, I’d rather have a small, light camera with me and get a shot than to rely on my cell phone because I left my FF monster at home 🙂

  24. The comment sectiion is getting worse: nothing constructive in half of the comments, bickering and insults all over the place…feels like being in a nursery!

        1. I made > 2k € in the last 5 weeks with selling m43 shots. I admit its not nearly as much as I made with my MF monster setup, but then, how much money did you make with selling your photos?

          🙂

          1. This is the new ultra 4k video mode rumored to be released with the 3.0 firmware update for the e-m1. Allows high quality screen grabs while recording in RAW 4K 240fps. I mean look at that professional quality!!! Nikon and Canon mine as well be cuddled up sleeping with this cat.

Also olympus is working on a new “journey” mode, so you don’t even have to go take photos. You simply type in the gps location on your smartphone and your camera is picked up by a drone and then you are able to compose your image from home. With the new tripple full frame m4/3 sensor you can use iso 256,000,000,000 and get pictures like this in 100 percent darkness. 5dmkiii’s will be in thrift stores soon…

    1. Many people have confronted Admin about this issue in the past 3 years, he has done NOTHING. He has come out trying to apologize at least two times due to lack of resources and time but in the end there’s no solution being proposed. There’s no system for the community to moderate itself (compulsory log-in, insta-ban after a set number of down votes. etc…), Admin does little to no moderation at all, he hasn’t named any other mods at all, bots and paid trolls come as they please…etc…etc…This place used to have an actual community, there was cooperation among users, now it’s just a mess. I’m actually convinced Admin favors the incoming traffic from trolls rather than normal users, we’re just being used as troll fodder.

      1. It has been always like this, that’s why I quit posting here since a long time. This site has been hijacked by the lower scum of the photo community.

  25. With the flip/twist LCD and new video features, they’re finally making an effort to keep customers from bailing to more video-centric systems. It’s probably the only immediate way to keep moving cameras, the stills market seems to be saturated.

I notice there’s no hint of an E-P5 replacement. OM-D has emerged as the cash cow, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see an all-OM-D lineup going forward. Certainly the E-M1 is the only camera getting real firmware updates, it’s table scraps for everything else.

    1. wouldn’t read too much into no mention of EP5 replacement.
It’s not for now, in order not to interfere with launch of EM5mkII, but it will follow surely.

it’s not the top of the line model anymore since the advent of the OMD’s, and lack of EVF and very high price hurt the EP5’s success (yet many owners seem to love their EP5’s a lot…) – but I certainly wouldn’t write the PEN line off just yet. EPL7 showed the way: they can keep up with the OMDs in another form factor with little sacrifice. EVF mainly.

    2. Just speculating but my guess is we’ll never seen an E-P5 replacement. Just didn’t seem to sell well. I had thought there would be something with a very small body that would kind of compete with cameras like the gm1 and gm5. But there was no E-PM2 replacement and I’ve not heard any rumors of a camera in that category. The E-PL7 might be it for the Pens for a while.

    3. I see this trend among comments here in regards to the triviality of the PEN line due to the more popular OMD line. First and foremost, I think this viewpoint is quite narrow considering that the PENs are quite popular in Asia, by far the most important market for m43 and mirrorless in general; to think that our western bias towards slr-styled bodies applies to the whole world is crazy. Secondly, the PENs do serve a purpose within the ecosystem: entry level models (system expansion), modularity (custom set up for enthusiasts) but more importantly: diversity. Without the Pen line Olympus would be just another canikon company with one single boring line of identically looking bodies. The PENs add to the richness of m43, no other system has this many ergonomical options for bodies, abandoning the PEN line and leaving Pany as the sole manufacturer of diferentiated models would make m43 A LOT less attractive.

Also, let’s not forget that mirrorless was born as a way to entice new customers into ILCs without all the intimidating DSLR interface, all the enthusiasts/Pros with their DSLR bias jumped on the bandwagon quite later, only when mirrorless took over video and offered newer tech than canikon (newer sensors, adapters, 4k, wifi, sealed bodies & lenses, fast glass, etc). Third, the E-P5 was only a bomb due to the lack of competitive features (EVF!!!), its crazy price and how late to the game it appeared. Had the E-P5 replaced the EM10 with all its features, price and release date within a PEN body it would’ve stormed the market way more than the EM10, that’s for sure.

The problem here is Olympus management, they’re stuck in a vicious cycle of self-fulfilling prophecies: First they defy their own PEN customers after years of demands for a PEN with EVF and better features with the EM5 even though no one had asked for an SLR-styled camera; OMDs become (unsurprisingly) more popular due to those very same features arbitrarily lacking on the PENs; and now they’re scared they’re going to cannibalize their more successful line if they put those features into a flagship PEN. This is nonsense, Pany, Sony, Fuji, everyone has proved the SLR body was unnecessary for an EVF, everyone has proved RF-styled cameras DO NOT cannibalize their SLR-style companions, only Olympus remains this stubborn.

Olympus defies the market and negates an EVF to its PEN customers for years > invents a whole new line with EVF withwith no EVF there’s no hierarchy within the PEN line > PEN line seems redumdant > PENs sell less > OMD seems a better route >

    1. 8 second exposure is already very great, even longer and you start getting movement on any day/night no matter how low wind.

      1. I make frequently 30sec to 3min shot.

The 60mp mode makes sense for landscape, and the mainstream landscape photo is > 15sec.

  26. in body stabilization is priceless for those with old manual lenses. With such a small size you can bring this thing anywhere and still get buttery smooth video. And crisp photos. I dont always have time to balance a steadycam or 3 axis gimbal. Em-5mkii is everything i ever wanted!

  27. Em-5mkii is everything i ever wanted! i was about to buy a em-1 and then i have been waiting to see if the new e-m5 will be awesome. and it will be! thank you olympus for reading my mind! Now i wonder what features will come out for the em-1 to keep it high in the lineup…..

  28. So RAW image resolution is 9216×6912 and JPEG resolution is 7296×5472. Max shutter speed 1/8000.

    Videos are FHD 24/25/30 fps. 77Mbits ALL-I, 52Mbits IPB and then 30Mbits and 18Mbits.
1280×720 is 50/60 fps. That sounds reasonable.
Flash sync 1/320, mechanical is 1/8000 and electronical 1/16 000.

    RAW 11 fps without C-AF, with C-AF its 5fps.

    Supports UHS-II W90 and R95 cards.
Same IBIS modes (Off, On, Vertical, Horizontal, Auto)

    Same EVF as E-M1 (1.48x = 0.74x, 21mm).
USB port is 2.0, it would be nice to get 3.0 but we have card readers for it, so no problem.

So looks like E-M1 got big brother, with a much better video features and still photography features. = Death to E-M1 if it stay same.

      1. Could be, but when the corrected and proof read, translated material comes out…. we know.

Of course many would dream about

        1920×1080 @ 24/25/30 with 77Mbits
        1920×1080 @ 24/25/30/50/60 with 52Mbits
        1280×720 @ 24/25/40/50/60 with 77Mbits.

    1. New 40 mp mode and faster shutter sounds great, hope the shutter shock issues are fixed?

Video features are good enough, no full hd for 50&60 fps makes those framerates kinda useless though.

Seems like the af system hasn’t been updated from e-m5, thats a major disappointment.

Ibis will be excellent as before I imagine.

E-M1 evf is super! Usb 2.0 is plenty fast, no problems.

If I had to choose which camera to get now, I’d still buy the e-m1 because of the better af system and ergonomics, I don’t shoot serious video. Guess I’ll have to postpone this decision to the date when the 300 f4 is available, maybe a e-m1 mark 2 will be announced by then. Till then I’ll have to stick with my 8 (!) years old e-3…

      1. I have never had the shutter shock issue with E-M1, and no one I know owning it has it either.

It is rare problem that was fixed with software.

If I would be buying a new body, I would take E-M5 II. But buy the extra grip for it. As now E-M5 II seems to have much better ergonomics and extra Fn buttons. Can’t be sure until trying out the body.

Why E-M5 II over E-M1? Because I have 12-40 and 40-150 Pro. There is nothing in 4/3 objectives holding back to use those.
If I would not have those, it would be E-M1, and if not interested at all about video quality and features.

        1. I was under the impression that the 0-se antishock has some downsides like extra release lag and not being available in continuous mode.

I own some HG 4/3-lenses so pdaf would be nice, I have tried them with the e-m5 and e-m1 and focusing with e-m5 is a pain and the e-m1 works excellently. But it’s not an absolute neccesity if contrast af works equally well with the upcoming 300 f4. I read somewhere that the phase detection is used with m43-lenses too when using c-af?

          1. You are under correct impression.

The 0-second anti-shock feature adds 8ms lag open the shutter and use electronic first curtain. And it automatically gets disabled after 1/320 (so with that it is still On).

But if user has a unit that has something wrong in the shutter, that is needed to be used. But those who doesn’t suffer from it, can keep it disabled and gain little more responsive shutter.

And PDAF is little tricky, as there is information that it is used in all C-AF modes with E-M1. But then there is information it is only with C-AF+Trk. But Olympus own old sale material presented it this part:

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X1PNGBg8mY#t=474

  29. Wouldn’t it make more sense to wait to see some actual sample video shot with one before making a judgement?

  30. Looking closely at the video modes I’m now very confident the CORRECT modes and frame rates are as follows:

In FullHD low frame rate modes (30p/25p /24p) there are 4 compression options:
    77Mbps (All-I), 52/30/18Mbps (IPB)

In FullHD high frame rate modes (50p/60p) there is no All-I option and 3 more efficient (IPB) modes are available:
    52/30/18Mbps

In HD you have all frame rates 60p/50p/30p/25p/24p and 3 compression modes:
    52/30/18Mbps

So, there you have it: You DO HAVE FullHD 60p/50p at 52Mbps.

  31. To all you haters and naysayers of Olympus in particular and M4/3s in general , why are wasting your time on this site posting your worthless, puerile and self-serving opinionated drivel?
Okay we get it, this system is not for you – so what? Please stick to your APSC sensors with very few dedicated fast lenses and enjoy them, nobody cares.
Here is a another thought for the prejudiced – M4/3s system cameras are probably a lot more capable cameras than the negative posters on this site are interesting photographers with something worthwhile to communicate. In fact the 4/3s sensor would appear to be more gifted than some of the intellectually challenged posters here, forever carping and more interested in pixels than photography.

    1. I really never understood why people go trolling in other people’s forums.

The only explanation I have is envy. Envy that m43, the “new” kid on the block, gets all the cool gimmicks and attention while the others are more or less yesterdays news that nobody gets really excited about anymore.

That and ofc the nagging feeling in the back of their heads that they have invested in the wrong system…

Either way, I’m looking forward to the new E-M5 II. I would have liked more MP, but hey, its looking good so far, and we can save that for the E-M1 II…

      🙂

      1. Don’t try, ‘understanding’ them is the domain of mental health professionals, for us, it is a fools errand.

      2. Probably Sony users.

M43 always rubbed them the wrong way. They thought they had this market in the bag, but unworthy m43 stood in the way. Now Sony is off chasing the next shiny object while E-mount ASPC is left to a slow death.

      3. I agree with you . Whatever their reasons, it is pointless and has nothing to do with photography.

Any camera from any era , even the most simple , can produce interesting images in the right hands. M4/3s ,as a maturing system, is fast becoming the real successor to 35 mm film cameras, both system and fixed lens – one format with multiple options in size , weight and capability. No other sensor format covers so many bases for both stills and video applications.

However, as in the 35mm film era, any limitations imposed by the format are more than offset by numerous advantages . The more things change ,the more they stay the same is the expression I believe. The convenience of M4/3s continues the Oscar Barnack concept forward into the 21st century, now greatly enhanced and with a quality of image the early pioneers could only have dreamt about. Those who know their own limitations have little to complain about with M4/3s, but other formats are welcome for their attributes and IQ gains too, despite bringing a different balance of compromises to be worked around. Choose whatever works and obtains the desired results – no one size fits all and it was ever thus.

    2. You’re preaching to the choir friend. The problem is not solely the trolls that have infested this website for at least the past 3 years, it’s the incompetence of this site’s Admin (yes, I said it). I can understand the lack of resources and time to deal with trolls but he has already formerly apologized more than a couple of times with no tangible results afterwards, worse yet, he doesn’t accept any kind of help and thus this site is left to its own devices. If Admin could just admit he doesn’t give a a single **** about moderating this site and just put a couple of mods in here everything would be fine, I mean, even DPreview seems more civilized than this place FFS.

      1. Agreed, I have written to Admin on this subject recently with a few suggestions . We will have to see if he implements them to the benefit of his otherwise informative site.

    1. It is.
The way I see it now, it’s got 1080p60/60 @52Mbps (IPB).
They segmented the modes because only the lower frame rate modes have All-Intra compression.

  32. They should focus on video with the EM5 and focus on the EM1 for stills. Video does not interest me at all and neither does the EM5 or EM5m11 as the ergonomics are ‘different’ to the EM1. Is the EM1 perfect? No! Is the Nikon D4 perfect …. NO ! However, I enjoy using my EM1s professionally for stills so I’m really happy if all you video fanboys concentrate on EM5 with all your boring video complaints.

  33. [Sorry about the all-caps, but amidst the turd-huricane of troll post this is the only way]

HEY ! ADMIN ! TAKE A EF*ING LOOK AT YOUR WEBSITE FFS! LOOK AT ALL THE TROLL POST ! C`MON MAN, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS C*AP FOR ONCE! THIS PLACE IS A MESS, EVEN YOUTUBE COMMENTS ARE STARTING TO LOOK MORE CIVIL.

How can you run a website on a daily basis and then show such neglect towards its community !? seriously, I’ve been coming here for more than 4 years and time and time again this place is taken over by trolls, it’s almost as if the website itself is run by them. Get your act together, yea, yeah, you’re too busy with your life to put order in here, blah blah blah…Then why don’t you assign some people as moderators, why don’t you implement a mandatory log-in, why don’t you ban by IP and geolocation ?

You know what’s worse about all this ? Historically all of this trolling is being done by no more than a few manchildren, how can you let a community of hundreds be taken by a small group of no-lives ?

Gosh, this thread reminded me why I don’t read the comments anymore.

    1. OH, and don’t you dare delete my post as you’ve done before, you know this is the truth, have some balls for once and start removing the troll’s posts instead. Until then no one will participate nor contribute in a civilized manner.

    1. just a different unit of measurement.
instead of kilo-pixels or mega-pixels they use hundreds of thousands as a unit of measurement. 4,000 x 100,000 equals 40 million (aka 40-“mega”)

  34. To me eyes that 40MP vs 16MP image comparison just looked like someone applied a stronger sharpen filter to the 40MP image. So I copied and pasted the image into a photo editor, sharpened the 16MP image, and now it looks just like the 40MP image.

  35. Is this a leak or full release? This actually looks real except for the wonky 40MP example which just looks like an over sharpened example. The image is also posterized so it’s a pretty bad example. It’s pretty exciting that the E-M5II will be the first m43 camera with pixel shift tech.
