For the first time Amazon US itself is shipping the Black E-P5 superkit with EVF and lens (Click here). And note how Panasonic US is still delaying the promised G6 shipment. Not in Stock at Amazon, BHphoto nor Adorama.
Best deal of the day: Black 45mm f/1.8 lens for $339 and free shipping at [shoplink 40218 ebay]Ritz eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

I’ve had the E-P2 and E-P3 with the VF-2 but I am not paying $1,449 for this E-P5 kit.
I’d rather grab the X100S for $1,299 !
What’s up with Amazon these days? I received the Panasonic G6 I pre-ordered from B+H more than 2 weeks ago and have been enjoying it ever since. Last year, when I got my Nikon D800, I pre-ordered it through the local Nikon dealer. I received my copy in the first wave of US orders, long before folks who ordered through Amazon got theirs…and my D800 had no differential focus point issues.
yay – olympus take my money. or perhaps I should wait for GX7…
I would say wait for gx7. As long as Panny doesnt price it so high that the e-p5 looks like a better deal.
boycott… used d600 is same price on amazon
What a shame nikon… D600… crap old tech…
D600 is only about 4x the size and weight…
D5200 with 2 kit zooms 998 Swiss Francs… E-P5 body inly 999 Swiss Francs… I really wonder who will buy a E-P5 for this price, I would not.
It’s kind of mysterious. You would think that those people working at Olympus know more than you about marketing and stuff but they keep making losses. It’s an outcome that the average Joe could have predicted looking at their pricing policy.
Exacty. The value proposition is so bad, it does not look like a mass market product. But not Leica M either (and I bet E-P5’s sales will be even lower). What are they thinking pricing it like that? Extra tech is barely $100 extra to E-PL5, and somebody decided to try and get $500 extra? Shitheads.
the argument I guess would be that the pen is smaller, better suited for street photography and has that classic look compared to a DSLR… but then why not just get the x100s for 150$ less! I don’t really see how the ep5 is supposed to be competitive, but I guess SOME people are buying it seeing the amazon ranking…
Only sales will tell I guess, but what a lackluster camera (and I’m an oly fanboy!)
If only it was $200 less I might have considered it, by the way when will they have the premium edition of the E-P5 with wooden grip?
Just wait a little while and that price drop will happen.
Pull me now!
Maybe they are trying to get an extra four hundred for the black paint on the lens.
I had already been 3 weeks using this E-P5, i purchased from 17 street. Is realy fun camera
Fun?
You’re really selling it
So what is the delay with the Pana G6? Frankly it is ridiculous to annouce a product and then force consumers to wait an eternity for it. It should not be more than a couple of weeks wait…
Panasonic always does this. The products are announced, then start shipping after about a month in Japan, about two months or so in Europe, and often at least three months in USA, sometimes more.
Yes the USA pricing means that profit margins are lower, but it seems to me that Panasonic tends to mismanage the supply chain. No or limited availability for early adopters in the initial excitement phase when they can get full price, then overbuild and and up clearing them out a year to two years later.
Olympus tends to ship products fairly quickly after announcement, but the EP-5 is not yet widely available.
I’m waiting for GX7!
Nice camera, but there are better alternatives for the price. I predict it will be a very slow seller.
$1500 is the value for money option? Kinda off the rails, wouldn’t you say?
no, the e-pm and e-pl deals are the value for money options, this is a premium option where you pay for being an early adaptor, buying somewhat newer technology, and a fashionable package.
Not my cup of tea, but no need to act stupid about that.
Just got back from a 10 day trip with the E-P5 and E-M5 together. I needed a second body for a wedding so I bought the E-P5. After 3 days (and the event), the E-M5 hardly got touched. The E-P5 seems a bit more responsive and the 1/8000 shutter speed was useful on the beach, even if the light was horrible.
I really think the best features are the ones inherited from the PENs like mode dial as the custom MySets. Also, the HDR bracketing mode is really handy. I set it to a custom myset, flipped the dial, and the HDR automatically switches to continuous burst mode.
The 2×2 dial is also neat. Using it on Mode three, the movie record button is another custom function button (AF point reset), and flip it over and it reverts to movie record button. Very handy as most of the videos I do take are of the 30 second variety.
All the little refinements add up to nice usability improvements over the E-M5. It would be nice if the firmware would be updated, but we all know that this will be resolved with the new O-MD, right ??? 🙂
