After ZZ top (here on Facebook) another big Rockstar has been spotted using the OMD: It’s Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age! Also on FB. Olympus marketing is doing a great job to promote the OMD system!

yawnnn…who cares..
Evidently you do to post about it.
Amit Gupta of Photojojo store shoots various Panasonic Micro Four Thirds http://www.amitgupta.com and his Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/superamit/
No one knows ;).
No kidding.
Who?
Some poseur trying to use a camera… with sunglasses?
His wife used to be my rockstar crush…now I want his camera.
Hmm.. Maybe I should not be seen with my E-M5 now. Or change to something else.
Oly should feel insulted… then again it might fit their Yakuza image and price gouging tactics to a T to be associated with these photog blockheads.
You can now go back to your sewer, you know-nothing, moron.
Awwww, fully agree here. Don’t wanna be in THIS peer group.
Shouldn’t he be rather making an ad for a guitar or for cymbals? 😛
I wouldn’t say that he’s been “spotted” using the E-M5 when he is posing for a photo
Spotted Using…
Seeing through the view finder the way he is holding it is impossible. So he is not using the camera.
Saw John Craven of BBC1 fame with a Lumix G on TV’s Countryfile programme last week.
Japanese XXX actress Sora Aoi uses a PEN if you watch her travel doc to Paris with her collegue Yuma Asami.
WoW awesome news 🙂
You have a link, Ulli? 🙂
i will try to find the link of the doc, but rememeber its about the activities of 2 girls shopping all the time, in japanese ofcourse. The PEN only appeared in this shot though as far as i can remember.
“Himehime ryokou aoi sora asami yuma paris” ia the title
You must be a true connoisseur to watch this.
yes,I find those girls in those movies very eyecatching. I would love to do portraits or other concepts with them.
Umm it is quite impossible to work WITH them without getting titillated especially Asami… your professionalism goes out of the window and your camera lens and vf gets all misted up…
yes in that case i will switch to “other concepts” as i have mentioned before.

No XXX? That was the main interest 🙂
Amalric, just google on her name and add torrent to it, or visit me to see my collection 🙂
Yes I can imagine Yummy Asami wearing a dog collar and chain holding a Pen(IS) in her hand with Jackar(SE) lens attached. Now that would be awesome!
Josh who? Olympus should get a more famous celebrity to hawk their products. Hey Oly! Invest on advertising to increase your sales!!
In Germany, footballer Marco Reus is advertsing for the G6. Funny, since sports photography is arguably the one thing that m43 is unsuitable for.
Of course
The laws of optics depends on captor size …
http://www.paulathomasphotography.com/Events/Evergreen-Speedway-Motocross/30420544_xKDzCF#!i=2621686734&k=9rg2pMj
Another troll ? plz
ah the ever popular pan & blur technique it is mFT version of sharp lol
Give me a link to some fast moving unpredictable sport shorts that are critically sharp. All I ever see from mFT are huge DoF shots any P&S could take or the blurred efforts you link to disguised as technique .The other amusing crowd are the it is amazing how good mFT high ISO is ,if you take a shot in bright sunlight , NR it then post a web sized image to show how good it
Frankly
Explain me how laws of optics are different for different captor size
And why dont you shoot in medium format ? explain me why 135 is a the “god” format.
All of this is a non sens
You want sharp … ok why not … http://lnk.nu/bigshotcamera.com/2hv1.jpg+
Here it is a fantastic camera for sport in your opinion … because you judge a photo on technical point of view.
The reality is different, in Camera History, the size of the captor has alway decreased … and never increased after.
At each reduction the technical majority “was against” (you know them, those who speak about camera .. never about project)… but price and flexibility have always won.
90% of sport photo are done using … a smartphone
For sport photography FF is the god format the fact that many people are dumb enough to use mobile phones or better still ‘a P&S with flashfiring when seated 100m from the activity does not change the reality.the best FF compared to the best mFT have the following advantages , far better high ISO, Far far better AF for moving subjects , and critically far better choice of high grade fast lenses .Even the best EVF Is a disaster for lowlight sport , then we move on to the poor ergonomics for sport shooting. Do you maybe think all those guys with the big cameras in the press seats are doing it for fun or has it crossed your mind that they use the best tools for the job in hand
Hold on
The initial statement was
“sports photography is arguably the one thing that m43 is unsuitable for”
Not
“m43 is the best camera for sports”
Do you read the differences ?
There is a major difference between someone who want to take some shoots 3 or 4 times per years than someone who is paid for it every day.
And the pb in forum is that if you post something done with a NEX, m43, FujiX … there is always a guys saying that image are “not as good as FF” … with some technical point of view … the trouble is that technical points of view has never decide if a picture is good or bad (except on photo forum where people thinks that best camera take best picture)
In fact all system are good enough … because optic laws are the same ! there is no god format.
In the press seats, why? you forgot the critical point thing. BIGGER, HEAVIER. Only used from one position and impossible to move around in real fast action. Or was that not convenient to your silly argument? They can’t stand up and swing the things around.
See Don Parrot’s shots at dog racing. CAF on. These little speed demons travel faster than all people and most cars and bikes. So what’s your gripe? Or just uneducated.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/63427925@N00/7429226732/in/set-72157630172691350/
By the way, look at the shots you will see sequential shots taken during a race that show the camera was not parked and the shutter pressed when the dogs got there.
But you will not look will you. Your just a pathetic little incognito who will not put his/her name to silly statements.
Those dog shots are not truly sharp by even the mediocre demands of mFT users even at the web size provided. Even with him shooting at F7.1 with the large DOF of mFT.Near all pro sports are photographed professionally by large heavy DSLRs regardless of the sport I gave one specific example the photogs have no problem using their gear , perhaps unlike mFTuser base they are not weak ,ill ,old or disabled.mFT has the following weaknesses for this specialist niche dreadful C-AF/Tracking, very poor selection of fast telephotos, apart from the 35-100 which is too short for most sports the long lenses are all slow as slow as F6.7 in the case of the lens used here. Poorer noise control, poorer DOF control lack of lenses , lack of weather sealed lenses etc etc
The maximum speed for a greyhound is around 45mp so you must have a pretty slow car lol. This site lets users sign in with any name they want even using others who already post here. At one time they had a glitch where the email address of the previous user was posted so giving any real names is a tad idiotic. I assume your full name is Jim D , unusual second name D though I can make a good guess what the D stands for. The little back patting group here does not change the reality no serious sport photographer would dream of using mFT
From the start to the shot the acceleration of the dogs is better. Horses better still. As for your crap about age, yes, I am getting on, yes, I do have a problem with carrying heavy cameras that are not required. Also why throw in the extras when my comment was about the press guys sitting down not standing and walking around. So better get your 6 year old brain into a life learning habit now, while there is time for you to learn and understand life because you have a very long way to go in your understanding of life. The practicalities of swinging around one of those oversize monsters used at the tennis seems beyond your current level in live. Note they only cover one end. That should tell you something. You are not very clever.
Pfft, no head and tails here, just a list of seemingly unrelated comments, better called a rant.
One thing you seem to totally fail to understand, the speed in mph of an object that you are tracking is totally irrelevant, the angular speed is what matters. Photographing an airplane flying at 90% of mach 1 is easy from 12000 feet away, photographing a bird flying 30mph at 3 feet distance is very hard.
I won’t address the rest, please try to write something more coherent instead of just throwing in every possibly negative thing you can think of.
Most certainly, thats why people were all up in arms when Canon released the 1Dx with 135 format sensor instead of APS-H.
Sports photography is often a balance between getting enough light and getting enough ‘reach’. Using a 135 format camera and needing a 1.4x TC just to get the same reach as an APS-C sized camera would get with the same lens means also giving up a stop of light, and if both cameras use a similar level of technology, gets you pretty much the same thing, but the APS-C setup will be somewhat smaller and lighter, and you can still add the TC for even more reach. The only thing the ‘full frame’ camera does that a smaller aps-c camera won’t do as well is the wide to short tele range in low light or with ‘thin DOF requirements’, and even that is changing with lenses like that nice Sigma f/1.8 constant aperture zoom.
You have been conned by marketing drones into believing there is something magical about ‘full frame’ that makes its nearly always the best answer, while the truth is that there is nothing magic about ‘full frame’ at all, rather, its an accidental format that only exists because about a 100 years ago, 35mm film was cheap and was the smallest format that could still provide somewhat decent IQ. Things have changed ‘somewhat’ since that time.

Are you serious?
that’s it I gotta get me an O-MD now
Seal, Natalie Port man, and Eric Clapton all use a Leica
Source of Natalie Portman using Leica?
According to this site she uses/used a Rolleiflex
According to this site she uses a Rolleiflex: http://atommagadia.blogspot.nl/2012/09/celebrities-and-their-cameras.html
Wow thats amazing. The viewfinder must be really good taking pictures with sunglass. I am going to drop al my real fotogear en swap to 43.
Than begin swapping. My VF-2 attached on my E-P3 (and before that the E-PL1) is excellent when using sunglasses. My sunglasses are made for me to correct my bad sight (-9). Apparently to your post it is impossible to use sunglasses when using EVF/OVF’s from other company’s. Than lucky me that I choose Olympus because it would be a real shame if I have to switch glasses all the time when walking in the sun and take pictures. It would terminate the hobby I think.
Looking through the VF while wearing sunglasses… Not the best ad for Olympus I say. Is there a link to his photos?!
It seems more like he is looking at the OLED screen.
Marco, he cannot be looking through the viewfinder the eye position is incorrect, he is looking along the flash bracket. Look in a mirror with the em5 and see. So fake ads now.
I wear sunglasses regularly while shooting with OM-D. The problem is with polarized sunglasses because light coming from EVF screen is polarized. Use non-polarized sunglasses while shooting.
-p-
Are those the same rosé tinted glasses you wear for your lets call them reviews lol
WOW! So much negativity, wth is wrong with you people, who cares who’s caught using these cameras! this doesn’t affect anything in any way,, not positively nor negatively, even if the pope was seen with an E-P5 (I’m guessing he’s the only one able to afford it comfortably), this changes very little. Did Homme ran over some little girl or something ? why do you worry if some ¨celebrity¨ is seen with your choice of camera system? Just be glad someone actually knows of this system outside this site.
I don’t care if this is intentional marketing or not, at least the OMD is seen in public by a large number of people and its existence is know to the general public in some small way, everything else doesn’t matter. Oly and Pany are too cheap to do proper marketing for this system, if anything this guy did them a favor.
Does the view finder flip to portrait mode when you turn the camera sideways?
Who is that Homme guy? I have never heard of him.
Here ya go: http://bit.ly/S7k6YJ
I guess its mostly the rock n metal crowd that know him, probably just in the states:) Never heard of him either…
I’m in Europe and I’ve heard of him. In fact I’ve watched him live twice. Qotsa is the best band around.
you guys are hilarious , this set of photos is staged with the camera being a prop probably handed to him by the photog who does shoot Olympus. It is funny despite the BS claims of sales and success of mFT it is still spot the mFT I travel extensively USA UK FRANCE ITALY and Ausralia mFT cameras are like thin Texans ,sure they exist in theory but man are they hard to see .
I love my Gh3/EP5 combo and they serve my uses perfectly , I couldn’t care less who is or is not using them. Considering mFT is still in its youth there is little doubt that the market share is not moving forward in fact actual numbers would suggest the opposite
Hey, I’m a thin Texan and I shoot m43, I guess I’m some sort of mythological beast. 😉
Sorry about the jibe Zack, as it happens I am also a thin[ish] Texan lol
What does a Rock Star know about serious photography? Why should I buy a product simply because it is endorsed by a celebrity? Good marketing? I’d argue it’s really short-sighted and stupid marketing that will alienate serious photographers away from the OMD system.
Go with the flow Josh! Josh Homme is the best rock musician of last 20 years guys, and om-d is the best camera. 😉
dont like recent QOTSA album but the first 2 are great…as upper said…”Go with the flow!”
I posted on 21 Jan this year that Venus Williams was using a black e-m5 at the Australian open.

Ehm, “spotted using” or participated in a paid ads?
Actually, there IS a difference between these two “uses”, lol 🙂
