  1. Admin: how many times do I have to tell you that it’s *App*, NOT APP – it’s an abbreviation of “Application”, not an acronym.

          1. Do Mac network systems not have MAC addresses? Which is a unique address hard coded to every networkable device?

        1. The kind of people who know what a MAC is (Media Access Control address – low level networking stuff) generally won’t miss abbreviate Macintosh as MAC 😉

  2. Sad that lightroom is still behind the digiKam in library functions, while starts to catch with face recognition etc.

  3. Anybody found any info from Adobe? Is there any difference between LR6 & LRCC except the payment method?

    1. It just hasn’t really been announced yet, while everybody (but Adobe) suddenly jumps the gun for some reason.

  4. Wondering how this fits into my current CC photography subscription with Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5. Wondering of I can upgrade to LR6 or LRCC or what or not. What it will cost. Hope they email their loyal customers with some info. Wondering wondering….

    1. One of the main benefits to being a CC subscriber is that you get all updates to the applications in your subscription at no additional charge.

In other words, yes, you will be able to download LR CC when it’s released (probably later today).

      1. been searching for a while. I’m not going to subscribe to CC. $130 a year or $150 up front…it’s a pretty obvious choice. I have no intention of editing photos on an iPad so guess we’ll just hold out for that to go up.

        1. I’ve been a CC Photography subscriber for 2 years now and have never needed or used the mobile apps. I’m already on my 3rd version of Photoshop since then, so I’m pretty happy with it – that would have cost a lot by now if I was buying standalone versions and updating each time. Just can’t find any info on Lightroom CC or Lightroom6. The idea with Lightroom CC is it will ALWAYS be the latest version of the application, it will ALWAYS have the latest features.

          1. Actually, I’m pretty sure that their idea is that you’ll ALWAYS be paying them money . . .

          2. Not like I don’t have alternatives, but to be honest the sheer amount of new features in the past 3 releases makes it great value – mostly if you are a web designer though, which is my day job. One can however wonder how the sudden rush of paying subscribers hasn’t funded Photoshop’s development team enough to fix some annoying bugs that have been around for 3 versions at least, plus reduce some bloated code.

          3. Here’s another problem with subscriptions… where does the money go. Sure, you never know for certain, but there’s a reasonable expectation, back in the software ownership era, that if I buy PhotoShop, most of that money’s going into PhotoShop. After all, they’re going to advance programs that generate money, not so much on those that don’t.

But here, you can pay for “photo” or “everything”… and that “everything” subscription covers a bunch of stuff you’ll never use. But there’s really no connection between you using Premiere and that money going to make a better version of Premiere. Adobe’s got more freedom to make the changes that are better for the company, not necessarily better for the individual user. I mean, I use Vegas for video, I don’t really care what Adobe does with Premiere, but when I send them money, I certainly hope it’s put toward the tools I do buy from them. Less change of that happening today than ever.

On the other hand, there’s also the notion of investing in a software system that’s going to be around forever, just as you would with a camera system. Ask Apple users, fans of Motion, Shake, Aperture, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio, etc. how they’re feeling about their past investment in Apple software these days. If this is really a survival move on Adobe’s part and it’s really working for them, it’s hard to argue against it in the big picture.

          4. CC is good for Photoshop + LightRoom users but I only need Lightroom. I take RAW images, auto correct white balance, do maybe 1-2 tweaks in standard editor with a bit of transform / crop, add a watermark and export. Basically I’m using Camera RAW’s most basic features. I use Apple iPhoto for photo organization so for me, $150 every 18-24 months is great. No need to spend $10 a month for just Light room.

but your use case w/ photoshop makes the CC a pretty sweet deal.

  5. Anything about the upgrade version, or are they trying even harder to push people into their CC . . .

  6. Likely will stay with the latest V.5.. It’s paid for… It does everything I want.. (except layers which isn’t in v.6)… and m4/3 lens profiles really don’t exist since it is already in the raw data.. If I get another unsupported Nikon lens.. maybe
Isn’t Photoshop + Lightoom CC the same basic price?? I seem to remember $19/month…
    Dogbert

    1. Photoshop + Lightroom is $9.99 a month, which is pretty good deal. I still wish they offered perpetual with Photoshop, but the Photography program price is quite good. $9.99 for both PS and LR, considering on average a 1.5 year upgrade cycle and typically $80 LR upgrade and $199 PS upgrade would yield $558 in upgrade costs over 3 years (two major versions), vs. $359 for the photography program. Of course, with the old model you could stop paying and keep your current version, but at least with the new model, the pricing isn’t a ripoff as well. The $19.99 per app (for everything outside of the PS+LR Photography program) is a ripoff for sure.

      1. Definitely a good deal. It’s not the direct cost that’s an issue for me, but rather, can I trust Adobe to NOT follow the mold of every other subscription service and the planet and just turn evil. If I did buy every upgrade, CC for photo is a great price. And I intend to upgrade LR.

Here’s the thing… what if Adobe decides you don’t need a new LR or PS for a few years. Or puts in new features that… I dunno… only make sense to Nikon users. You’re buying it anyway… you have to, or what you got today stops working. Maybe they won’t.

But think about all your other subscriptions: insurance, cellphone, cable TV, internet, etc. Are you really, really happy with those? Most people aren’t all that happy… prices go up, service goes down. And it does that because they’re all figured out that profits are optimized when you’re only losing a certain number of people per year or less. So they spend only enough money to just keep to that threshold. Those are the most expensive people to retain, leaving that service. It’s easier to get new subscribers… which is why there’s always some kind of limited-term discount on the service, and why you see so many insurance, cellphone, and cable/satellite ads on TV. I don’t think Adobe is this, yet, but it could become this.

  7. All I see is version 5 through those links, and no announcement. Perhaps it will be released Wednesday in the U.S. and it’s already Wednesday where Admin is…

  8. i think the release time is 1pm in Seattle. It appears this site jumped the gun. The mobile app upgrade is already online and mine downloaded automatically to the iPad.

  9. I hope you get a lot of money to post this add for Lightroom, because there is no other reason to post it on a site for m4/3 shooters. This is not a product specific in any way to the products that this blog should be about, and there are lots of competitors to lightroom that does not get the same type of advertising.

    1. That’s one of the most silly comments I’ve seen posted here. A lot of Micro 4/3 photographers are interested in the new version of Lightroom being announced, even if you are not.

    2. Seriously? So general interest subjects are not allowed here, according to you? Especially regarding an app that many of us use, and like to discuss, within the m43 community and how it might help us? To bad it is not your site then, where you actually get to decide what you want to write about. Also, FYI, it might be of specific interest to many of us if the new e-m5II is supported, since it was not in earlier versions…

    3. Actually, it is very relevant for M43. For example, EM5 II owners have been waiting anxiously for LR6 in order to natively process raw files without conversion to DNG first. S

      1. Well, yeah, we’ve been waiting for EM5II support. I’d have been happy enough to have LR5 updates. For awhile, I’ve been running everything through DxO Optics to DNG to Lightroom, which works pretty well and applies DxO’s lens corrections en masse. I recently discovered that you can use an EXIF editor to change all your standard (not hires) .OVF files to “EM5” rather than “EM5MarkII” as camera type, and LR handles them just dandy. Still, I probably will get the update, one way or another.

    1. Actually, my install of LR5 is absent of most if not all m43 Olympus lenses, too. I probably need to reinstall, but may wait, since I’ll almost certain upgrade to either LR6 or LRCC… still pondering that decision.

  10. Every ..amned website related to photography is posting this “news” about LR6…. Anyway, is there someone out there who already knows how it will deal with the old existing presets of LR5? (I’ll be in front of my Mac tomorrow evening)

  11. OK, I have the product, and so far I am not impressed, because
    1) Initially, Adobe didn’t have LR6 perpetual license listed on their web site. It tool me forever to find it.
    2) When I finally found the link to LR6, Chrome couldn’t render the page (error 413, header too long)
    3) I ordered the product using Internet Explorer, installed it and that’s when my troubles REALLY began:
    4) LR6 started, offered to convert my catalog, and hung with the splash screen displayed
    5) Starting in Administrator mode did not help, nor did starting a new, empty catalog
    6) A call to Adobe Tech Support resulted in renaming a couple of folders that Adobe uses to manage licenses. This fixed the LR6 hangs at start-up problem, but
    7) Destroyed my Adobe FrameMaker 12 license, which necessitated Yet Another Call to Adobe Tech Support…

    This better be worth it.

  12. Its adobe why bother? Its not 4/3 or m43. Its just the annuual money grab and donation to a somwhat unethical company. (massive price hikes and such in some countries and locking zones) Gave them away some time ago never been happier.

  13. Remember creative cloud is a 1 year commitment even if you are paying monthly. There is a 50% fee for remaining months if you cancel early. Unless you really need to photoshop, i would not recommend signing up for creative cloud. I just got hit by the early termination fee to cancel early.

LightRoom 6 feels more responsive and faster.

  14. 73,-€ for an upgrade from 4.x? That again I find pretty fair! I skipped th 5.x release since I did not spot anything in that release I would need
