The E-P5 superkit is in Stock in Silver or Black via third party resellers at Amazon US (Click here). And if you need to read more about the new PEN click over on the just posted review at Photographyblog. They say:
The E-P5’s biggest problem is not the camera itself, but its price – £899.99/$999.99 body-only makes it as expensive as the OM-D E-M5. Sure, it offers a lot of features that its big brother doesn’t, but then the E-M5 is arguably a more well-balanced camera thanks principally to its built-in viewfinder. Only you can decide if the more compact, stylish and feature-rich E-P5 warrants such a position. Ultimately the E-P5 joins the E-M5 as a fantastic compact system camera, albeit again a rather pricey one.
Looks to me that the Superkit (with lens and EVF included) is the most sensible choice. Body only is really too expensive!
The other MFT camera deals:
GH3 for $1,028 (with 2% reward included) at Amazon US (Click here).
G5 with 14-42mm lens for $349 and free 32GB SD card at Samys (Click here).
G5 with double lens kit and free $100 Gift Card(!) at Adorama (Click here) for $598 (or $498 if you detract the gift card).
E-P3 for $329 at Amazon (Click here).

Considering that for $250 LESS you can get a Fuji XE-1 kit, I can’t see that this camera will pull a lot of new users into the format. And we all know that many m43 users have been clamouring for a RF styled body with built in evf. And that a whole lot of other m43 users have had their needs met with the E-M5.
Who’s left? Existing m43 users happy to use the rear screen for composition, or who really love their VF2/3, and are looking for an upgrade path. Can’t imagine their is a huge sales volume in that subset……especially at this price.
Good to see that all reviews pick in the same wound.
Maybe that makes Olympus wake up.
I hope we will see a price drop soon, after Olympus got the cash from the early adopters…
“Maybe that makes Olympus wake up.”
Nope. The bad rep for occasionally insane or just bit crazy MSRPs had costed Oly cameras over the years many many points on many many reviews. But their marketing doesn’t even bulge.
Significant that in UK the OM-D held it’s price for 11 months after its release, whilst the E-P5 is showing 5% discount after 2 months
The O-MD was available in the UK with deals ie free grips etc that effectively gave it a more than 5% discount on the RRP at launch on pre-orders and there has various deals ongoing since eg free lenses etc
Too expensive…..out of ……
It’s a pity……I’ll never buy at this price!
OMG! who in their right mind would pay that much, with an old sensor and no built in VF? Panasonic has a new señor with built in VF coming, I’ll wait for that.
And then rumours of a newer one, followed by a better one, followed by…..
You need to make some decisions in your life then live with them…..
This unfortunately is the way of electronics, it develops so quickly that either a manufacturer waits until a worthwhile improvement in a product can be made (and goes out of business) or he continuously makes small steps to keep in the race.
If you have a camera introduced the last 1, 2 years, you can’t expect more then a small step forward from a new sensor. It’s not like 3, 4 or 5 years ago where sensors were much improved every year.
The E-P5 is a great camera and does seem like an improved E-M5 when it comes to the feel of the camera. Still I own an E-M5 and after playing with one I decided the camera is not one for me. The price does seem to be on the high side condering Fuji XE-1 beling less expensive. It is intersting that there is already a price drop for the E-P5 and that the camera are in the stores now after the initial shipment arrived a week ago. So it seems like the demand, at least for the initial price, is less than hope for. Still if the E-P5 had a built-in EVF-4 viewfinder in the top left corner I would have one now. Instead I am waiting to see what the OMD camera being released latter this year is going to be like. My Olympus sales rep told me that it will be a notch above the E-M5. My main complaint with the E-M5 is AF-C and Tracking and the E-P5 doesn’t solve these complaints.

I think this is a good camera…but I agree with everyone else with regard to it just being way too expensive for what is on the market. I own an OMD and although this cam has some nice new perks…it just isn’t enough for me to be tempted..plus we have new more advanced models looming from both Panasonic and Oly..so I am just going to keep loving my OMD and see what develops in the fall regarding the new offerings.
The E-P5 isn’t aimed at E-M5 upgraders they should be happy and using what they got.
I think its actually gonna be a great camera, considering its tiny size. You can literally fit this into your pocket! I am upgrading from a GF3, which was great because of it’s small unintimidating size. I took that camera everywhere and constantly got compliments about my pictures.
I would never get the OMD simply because it can’t fit in my pocket. If you’re already getting an OMD, you might as well go for a DSLR. Either go big with the best quality or go small and sacrifice on the quality. In the end, the EP5 is an excellent compromise between camera size and quality.
You must have very defined pockets if this camera can fit and the E-M5 can’t:

Exactly my thought.
That reasoning makes absolutely no sense.
But everyone has an opinion…
For me, the size is about the same, not enough for deciding for one or other.
I’d say the hump on the EM5 makes it quite a bit bigger, especially in a tight fit like pockets.
I know I can barely fit the EM5 in my jacket pocket, and it’s difficult enough I generally don’t.
I keep thinking of the EP5 as a smaller EM5, and for that it would be great.
A sucker born every minute…$1500? Olympus best watch out as they are pricing themselves out of the market. What a stupid company…sales are going to be poor because Oly is trying to rip off their customers
I prefer it when you stick with the name @camerageek
Its a great deal with the bundle but overpriced for the body only. 800 would be the sweet spot,. You could get the sony nex 6 and save 250 with a evf !
I’m an Olympus user since E-520.
Have several lenses for both 4/3 and m4/3.
Currently have an OMD and E30.
I agree that this might be a great product, but offerings from competition are much better taking into account the unreasonable price.
I bought an GX1 with recent price drop, and to be honest, I’m looking forward to the new GX? from Panasonic.
I’m in love with the physical controls, menu and quick menu, and general handling of the GX1.
I do miss the stabilization a lot… but I’m being tempted to sell OMD.
Where do they make this camera? Could it be in Thailand or China?
Likely the same country where iphone 5 is made – China
I’ve seen reviews from them where they stopped a camera from getting Five Stars, for the simple fact that it was Too expensive over cheaper, competitive rivals.
That didnt stop them this time.
I now look at their reviews as something to just pass the time with, until a REAL reveiw comes along. They complained about the price from beginning to end, only to give it the highest mark.
I won’t take their reviews seriously anymore.
Lazy review. It’s a cut and paste of the E-M5 review. Check out page 2-image Quality and how they reference the E-M5 and the “supplied flash unit”. Stopped reading after that.
Man, Olympus sure knows how to price their cameras. Must be magic in their cameras. The rest of us must settle for cameras from Sony and Fuji for less money. Maybe pick up a D7200 or 70D for less money too. Nice going, Olympus. Price your way into success.
People who moan about price constantly and don’t value products are often worth less in instant and ongoing profit to companies… just saying.
Yesterday handled a P5, very very nice body, very solid. The first m43 camera that feels that way. I’m still glad I ordered a smaller E-PL5 for 1/3 of the price though.
Leaving apart the design, which is v. pretty, I found my peace b getting an E-M5 for dedicated shooting, and an E-PMx for random street shooting. Better than thinking one model do it all.
So the E-P5 for all its beauty might as well wait 2 years. One must be practical with one’s gear, even if my aim is always been to reduce it to a minimum.
market & time will show …but as saw the EP3 price …it will be not fast price drop …at least not in Europe…maybe in 2years
Even with VF and lens it’s much to expensive if you take a look what you can buy for the same price from other companies.
Its been done to death but it really needs that built in evf and the price!! Just saying….Olympus AU still list the EP3 as $799 on the AU website.
This ones for the pen-ophiles only I’m afraid.
1450$ for an PEN !!!!
With 1600 Eur can buy an D600 on amazon.de
But since that is body only, it won’t be taking any useful pictures.
True.
But there are excellent cheap primes floating around. Stick a 50 1.8 in front of it, and the price will not raise that much…
