Fuji X70 already in the hands of selected photographers for testing – New Source

 photo asoifaoufgoua_zpsmoyaelpm.jpg

According to a new source, Fujifilm already shipped some X70’s to selected photographers for testing.

The X70 rumor is one of the oldest here on Fujirumors. A few years ago Fuji already was close to make it, but they stopped its development and put plans on ice.

If this rumor is correct, than Fujifilm not only decided to make it, but it’s development is actually at an advanced stage and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it become real within the first half of 2016 (but I have no rumors about it’s release date for now).

According to the rumors, the X70 is an EVF-less & smaller version of the X100 line.

And yes… don’t forget the grain of salt

take care

  1. I could maybe believe HVF-less but EVF-less would put it in the XA and XM category. Actually that X100-light concept competes with XE….I’d guess that it’s more along X30 concept but with a 1″ sensor to compete with other 1″ cameras.
    Wait and see….

    1. Yes, if getting rid of the ovf and keeping the evf reduces the cost, please go ahead. I never use the ovf on my x100s

      1. You apparently stick the sensor to your forehead and have images beamed directly into your brain. Makes using photoshop a pain though.

  2. Seriously? No wonder the development of the X-Pro2 took so long. The R&D department has been seriously busy with 2 projects at the same time!!

  3. A Panasonic LX100 clone with a manual zoom lens and Fuji colours would be absolutely peachy! I have an LX100 and these are my 2 main complaints about it.

  4. It’s hard not to feel such a camera is a waste of time. The POS market is dying very quickly and more advanced users are unlikely to want a camera without any kind of viewfinder. I wish Fuji would spend their R&D more wisely, have the tepid sales of the X-M and X-A series taught them nothing? I see little evidence that either the Ricoh GR or Nikon A have been particularly successful so why waste time coming up with a competitor? The hybrid viewfinder is the raison d’être for the X100 series and take it away means you might as well get an X-E2 with a pancake lens.

  5. What would be the point? The X100 series is really nice and the original X100 was the “starter drug” of my “Fuji X addiction”. But it still is rather a “niche product”. And I wonder how successful another, yet less sophisticated “niche camera” could be…

    1. the x100 series is really expensive, making a cheaper alternative may help getting the fixed focal length compact aps-c out of that niche.

  6. X70 sounds Pro-ish, a FF camera with fixed lens and OVF ?

If it has a 1 inch sensor and EVF then it was called X40, not X70.

          1. Actually Raw is the advantage of digital.

No film scanning and developing, no expensive films, high resolution, infinite color, contrast and black & white possibilities, with as much or as little dynamic range as you want, sharpen more or turn it off completely .. oh and flexible white balance! Did i mention easy storage?

  7. Still hoping it will be as pocketable as the Ricoh GR and come with a 23mm/f2.8. That would be the camera of my dreams!

I just hope it has a tiltable screen if it doesn’t have an EVF. Like a smaller version of the X-M1 with a fixed lens.

          1. Well it takes the resolution from 16MP to 10MP, going to 50mm takes it to less than 5MP. It’s not so tiny if you are predominantly going to use it at 35mm.

  8. without EVF: no
with EVF, for a decent price: probably yes. i dont need the hybrid one because i never use the OVF.

  9. I’m a adorama B&h customer but times are tuff in the holidays and I need me a new 18MM xf and 27MM xf as mine was stolen yesterday and I was thinking of purchasing at digitalrev. thoughts?

  10. I would only be interested if they kept the ss wheel and
aperture ring. An ISO wheel would be a plus too. I would lean towards a 28mm
    eq lens.

  11. Do you mean no hybrid VF or no VF at all. Isn’t a little VF-less Fuji already called the XM and XA?

So this would be a fixed lens XE?

  12. I do hope they at least keep up with cmos tech. It’s not that one cant make good pictures. But some shots simple wont exist.

  13. No LCD with a large bright EVF (that you could still play back images in to) and an ISO dial on the back, replace video with intervelometer, comes with lens hood and leather case that can accommodate the lens hood. Thats my vote.

  14. Well – WAY more interesting would be an X30 upgrade / bigger brother – With an 1″ sensor for example. (PLUS acceptable video quality – It´s still a drawback which holds of MANY potential buyers!)

Such a bigger brother would be the PERFECT middle way -> Sensor size inbetween X30 and X100. AND still small enough to call it a “compact camera” … (As the lens could be small enough as soon as it´s not calculated for APS-C.)

I wonder if there´s coming something from Fuji in the Future …

      1. Sounds good to me. If they could also get it to a similar size to the Sony RX100 line I am sure it would sell very well.

  15. If there is no viewfinder, then I’m not interested. Having a tilt or articulated LCD paired with an EVF would be ideal for a go-anywhere camera.

  16. Would I be interested in a cheaper X100? Hell yeah! Would I be interested in such camera without a viewfinder? NO thanks.

  17. Same here… At the end I might just buy an x100t when the x200 comes out and the prices drop to $799-$899 for the x100t.

  18. I don’t understand why would people buy cameras without a viewfinders these days anyway. Phones are the new point and shoots with nice big clear screens and constantly improving sensors. The old point and shoot cameras without viewfinders are dead! Who buys these?

    1. People who care about smaller size and/or articulated LCD’s. And price.

A good LCD is a bit like a medium format rollei film view type finder.

  19. I am very interested in this X70. I wonder though if Fuji will use the new 24 MP sensor along with the new technologies or recycle the 16MP Sony sensor once more. I hope it’s the first. Also the lens needs to be sharper than the current X100T.

  20. X70 seems like an odd name considering where almost at the X40 and they are two completely different cameras.

I too would prefer the focus to be on improving the X40, and leaving the X100 be. I don’t think we need a little brother for the X100, actually I think the X30 line is the little brother.

  21. I think this is great news. Firstly i thought its nonsense because of lack the viewfinder (I have x100). But on the other side with comparison with other small cameras for travel and streetphotography like oly pen with pancake or ricoh gr, x70 would be smaller like oly or ricoh, but with bigger sensor (than oly) and more versatile lens (than ricoh)..and with fuji colors! And that counts 🙂
