Fujifilm considering to make an XF 60mm Mark II, once they completed the roadmap! (New Source)

According to a new source, Fuji is considering to replace the “old” XF 60mmF2.4 with a newer version. The source did not share any specs and said that this will not happen before Fuji has completed the current roadmap.

End of the rumor.

The upcoming XF 35mmF2 WR (which should come in November, according to this roadmap), could indicate that Fuji considers the lens roadmap more or less complete now and therefore started to develop newer version (or variations) of older lenses…. and if this rumor is correct, the XF60mm could be a hot candidate to be updated as next.

Yes, for now this is a low rated rumor. And you know I’d like to keep a high hit rate (currently of 90%). I share it, because this is also a Great Opportunity to let Fujifilm know, which lenses FR-readers consider a priority to be updated as next (and I tell you, Fujifilm reads this blog and is interested to your thoughts.)

So which lens should Fuji update as next? Should they give us a compact XF 23mmF2? Or maybe a weather sealed version of the XF 10-24? Or is it really high time to put a faster AF into the XF 60mmF2.4?

I’ll then sum up all your ideas in a POLL, and we will let Fuji know, what FR-readers consider a priority.

    1. The 23 1.4 is an amazing lens as-is. Maybe adding WR would make it worth while, but why would you want to make the lens slower? The current version is tack sharp, what would be to gain by slowing it down?

  1. I’d very much like to see a 60mm MkII with faster autofocus but with the same optical performance.

And speaking about variants: A 16mm f2 or 2.8 is what I’m longing for most. The 1.4 is just too big for me.

    1. And speaking about smaller and faster, it would be interesting to see small, prime lenses in XC edition (more plastic, no WS, no OIS, maybe no more aperture ring, but the same good quality optics) for an irresistible price.

  2. Great news. And how about a pin sharp 18/2.0 Mk2 (new optical design) and a silent 35/1.4 Mk2 (new mechanical/electronic design).
Also on my wish list: 23/2.0 and 16/2.8, just as sharp but smaller, lighter and cheaper than the current 23 and 16.

  3. On my list would be, in order of importance:

    – 333mm F4 R WR OIS, something akin to the newest Nikon version, meaning shorter and lighter than the 50-140mm, going with 72mm filters would be a bonus, but I don’t know if it’s physically possible
    – 23mm F2 R WR, not bigger than the current 35mm F1.4
    – 50mm F2 R WR, small, light and cheap
    – 12mm F5.6 R WR, small and light
    – a reworked 10-24mm F4 with WR and most of all better IQ at its long end

This way I could have a small and light travel kit (12mm, 23mm, 50mm primes) and a full set-up for when I’m all about photography (10-24mm, 50-140mm, 333mm).

  4. In my opinion this only makes sense if the lens will stay cheap. Otherwise you could also use a 56mm with extension rings and you additionally have a great portrait lens. Or even better the 120mm macro. What do you think?

  5. Well, roadmap + that rumoured 33/f1.0 + one shift and tilt, but they shouldn’t make us wait much longer for a new sensor, this is the oldest item in the whole line-up…

  6. I’m dying for an updated 10-24. I shoot wide in low light and f/4 isn’t cutting it. An f/2.8 would be amazing! WR would be a welcomed touch seeing as I often shoot in less than ideal conditions. OIS isn’t necessary at those focal lengths.

      1. I don’t own either, that said I was eyeing the 16, but I am concerned that it won’t be wide enough. It looks like a spectacular lens, I just love to shoot super wide. I mostly shoot urban exploring pics in very dark places. The 1.4 is tempting, I just know that 11 or 12 mm would be spot on for me.

        1. I think Samyang makes a good 12mm for X mount. It’s MF only, but at that focal length, precise focus distance is not as critical.

  7. Vote for 60/2.4 but with 1:1 macro only and improved AF.

But what I really, really, really need is smaller f/2 primes:
    23/2 WR
    55/2 WR
    16/2 WR
    35/2 WR

These primes would keep me staying with Fuji, I look back to FF now because Fuji 23/56/16 primes are huge and not great for discreet shooting.

    Bring also small 85/2.8 WR

  8. What I’d love (additionally to a small 35/2 WR):

    1) XF 23/2 WR in a very compact design
    2) XF 60/2.8 WR Macro 1:1 (OIS) with improved AF (for me 2.8 would be enough and OIS should only be added if the size can be kept as small as possible, but make it a true 1:1 with WR)

What would be nice in the future:

    1) Update the XF 10-24/4 to a WR version (I don’t need 2.8 for this lens, just keep the lens as small and light as possible with probably also increasing IQ)
    2) XF 55-200/3.5 WR OIS with true internal focusing (no extension) and in a small and light package would be a dream

  9. Fuji should just license the mount and carry on making premium lenses and leave the smaller/lighter stuff to the Tamrons and Sigmas.

  10. 1) Rather than 60mm macro I’d prefer 70mm f2.8 WR, OIS macro with IF and good working distance. 120mm macro looks too big.

    2) 16-70 (or 85) f4.0, WR, OIS with proper aperture ring and make it very sharp!
find I miss 16mm with 18-55, miss 55… with 16-55 f2.8, 16-55 heavy. and if I want subject isolation / low light then 35mm f1.4 does the job.

    3) 300mm f4.0 WR, OIS with Fresnel lens. and if its feasible a built in 1.4 tele-converter

    4) 35mm f1.4 with faster AF. Thats unless the X-Pro2 / X-T2 sensor is so much better that I could live with the f2.0 version.

  11. 60mm f1.8 / f2 macro 1:1 (or 1:2) with faster focusing. Would be great for portrait and macro. Can’t choose between 56mm (expensive, bad minimum focus distance) and 60mm (slow focusing, lack subject isolation for portrait) right now…

A smaller 23mm (f2) would be great if not too expensive. But they seriously need to improve X100T or it’d become hard to justifiy…

    1. The 1:1 maginification I understand, but I can hardly imagine they will focus on an 1.8 aperture with a macro lens. Usually the concessions made for a portrait lens are the opposite from a macro. For example corner sharpness vs. max aperture.

  12. So close to PhotoPlus Expo and so few compelling rumors! Where’s XE-3? What about that Fuji-Panny-Toshiba sensor announcement? XPro2? Or a consumer super zoom? Nothing happening?

  13. A 56 f2 is what is most needed in my opinion. Fuji has many WA options. Fast, slow, wide, not-so-wide. But the portrait prime selection is limited to a rather expensive 56 and a slow 60 (and now a 90, but that’s more specialized). Nothing there to replace the cheap 50s we could use on APS-C DSLRs with awesome IQ and fast AF.

    1. Still half the price of the Canon 85mm f1.2.

Whay you consider ‘expensive’ some might think is a bargain.
Especially considering its performance compared to its Canon nephew.

      1. Yeah, but comparing an 85 f1.2 lens on a FF camera to a 56 f1.2 on APS-C really doesn’t cut it for me – different beasts. Some here hate the talk about equivalence but in most real world use that really is the only aspect that matters. So it’s rather an 85 f1.8 that I would compare to. Both – Canon and Nikon – offer those for less than half the price of the 56. The Fuji might have much better build but that doesn’t matter if you simply can’t afford it. I’d rather have a plasticy lens in my hand than an awesome metal one sitting in the store.

But what I actually compared to was the 50 f1.8 on APS-C. Nikon’s version performs admirably on 16MP APS-C cameras and cost me 130€ used. I need to pay more than double that here to get a slower XF60 used. It has macro and has much better build but I would gladly trade those for more affordability and smaller size. If Fuji built an XF56 f2 and sold it for 300-400€, I’m sure that would be a hit.

        1. +1
          same hit with 23/2, 35/2 and 16/2.
I would pay 350-500€ for each. I will never buy current huge and expensive 16/23/56 Fuji primes. In that case I have better go back to FF.

          1. In my case it’s not that I don’t like the larger primes, I’d love to have them. It’s just that physiotherapists in my part of Germany are paid slightly above minimum wage, nothing to walk around buying 1000€-lenses…

          1. Thanks for the heads up but my main wish is AF. If I use my Nikkor 50 f1.8 AiS at f2.8 the sharpness is pretty good and the build and MF feel is probably way above the Sigma (not to mention size). So unless I can get something with AF there’s no point in ditching my Nikkor.

          2. The sigma has AF…i’m talking about the DN Art lens with the weird smooth barrel that they make just for mirrorless

          3. Yes, I know, but if I am not mistaken there is no version for Fuji. Adapting would mean no AF sadly.
            BTW, what an ugly lens…

  14. I do love the big super corrected primes, but still give a big thumbs up to the 27 pancake. I’d love to see a whole set of pancakes – good correction, not too fast, but tiny. You’ll never get a pancake macro of course….

  15. I would like to see group of high quality small and compact lenses. The reason I got into the Fuji equipment was the size of their cameras and lenses. Although the latest group of fast 1.4/1.2 lenses are great for a pro photographer. They do not help the guy who spends the day out with he’s or heir camera. It like carrying all that Nikon stuff around again.

  16. Non-OIS smaller version of sealed 10-24 (can be 10-17 but light-weighted). Surely 2/23mm pancake, 2/60 with fast AF.

  17. A cheaper and more compact 23mm f2 would be very nice. And a New Version of the 35mm 1.4 with faster internal AF.
And a cheaper more compact portrait Lena, like a 50mm 1.8.

    1. Yes, a 16-80mm f/4 WR Lens would be GREAT! It would be really great if the image quality is as good as the existing 18-55mm Lens.

  18. I’m longing for a compact 23mm f/2 lens.

I’d like to think that the X-Pro 2 is just around the corner and it seems that the 35mm f/2 lens is a perfect choice for a rangefinder style camera given it’s compact design and smaller nose. But how much would this lens kill the sales of the X100? I’m guessing that is why we don’t have this lens already. The 23mm f/1.4 is amazing, but sometimes it’s good to be more compact.

  19. Fuji needs 80mm+ real (1:1) macro, not the update of 60mm. There is Touit 50M, but working distance at 1:1 is way too close.
I see there is 120mm WR macro on the roadmap, that is more like it… (if it is 1:1).

    1. I agree 80mm 1:1 Macro would be better as it is not as large as the upcoming 120 and still can keep a safe distance before insects fly away.

  20. I would love to see a XF12-18 mm f4 WR (no OIS) for complete the kit with the XF18-55. Would it be possible without sacrificyng weight and size? I don´t know but Canon has one 10-18 IS f4.5-5.6 and it´s cheap and light so… ¿Fuji are you reading? =)

  21. I really wish they’d make a 10-24/2.8 WR ‘red label’ with straight aperture blades(like the canon 16-35L has). The current lens is great, but not like the 16-55 and 50-140. I wish it was sharper and faster instead of having OIS (i want to be able to use faster shutter speeds, not slower!) I have to use a tripod for the slow-shutter landscape stuff anyway and OIS does nothing at the speeds you use for concerts/events, they choose a weird set of compromises.

  22. I’m into street photography so it’d be great to have these focal lengths and apertures: XF 23mm f/2 WR and XF 18mm f/2 WR. I’d also like to see a 300mm f/4 WR and a WR version of the 10-24mm.

  23. First, I hope the roadmap isn’t complete. Fuji film isn’t going to get very far if that’s it. There are lots of huge holes in their line up, and lack of what should be basic features (OIS? WR?) on many of their signature lenses.

It’s tough to find a lens in their lineup that is WR, OIS, fast aperture, AND not so heavy it mostly offsets the mirrorless size advantage. Sure, there are technical and cost challenges, and Fuji’s camera market isn’t so huge as Nikon/Canon. But I have to scratch my head when look at what’s there.

Second, the 60mm needs not an update, but an overhaul. As a nature/science photographer, I find it hard to believe it isn’t WR. And then there’s the protruding element from the lens body. The Zeiss Touitt doesn’t even have WR, so no other options other than an adapter with a non Xmount lens.

  24. needs a fast IF design…1:2 ok for that focal length and size.
agree with others on a nice 23mm f2 design like the upcoming 35mm f2.

  25. Actually, Fuji should probably make V2 of most of their lenses asap, to bring the latest features: weather resistance, fast AF (linear motors?), graded aperture ring, focus clutch.
This could be done without changing the optical design, so definitely easier.

The 60mm is a good example, but there is also the 10-24mm, the 35mm and maybe the 18mm.

  26. That’s almost what you get with a X100s/T and the adapters (19mm, 23mm and 35mm, at least). with the leaf shutter in bonus.
But yeah, I know, you want that for your current camera body…

  27. A 23 f2 isn’t overly neccessary for me, because there is the very good 27mm. I would like to have this 27mm with a proper sunshade, aperture ring, weather sealing and maybe f2, but will also take a 23mm if it fits in that in.

For a macro, the 60mm is quite OK speedwise (I think as all macros it was never intended as a fast sports-glass).

If I had a wish, I would prefer a compact 50mm f2, aequivalent to the 75mm Summicron, which should be perfect wide open. Weather sealed, aperture ring and with an integrated sunshade.Together with a 23 or 27mm this would make a very good travel-setup for me.

  28. The lens lineup is already great. For me the No. 1 priority is Weather Sealing the current primes to match the 16 1.4. I enjoy my primes with my X-T1 and want the weather sealing to match.

Also, Fuji needs to decide whether they are implementing IBIS on the next generation of body (yes please!). If not, they should add OIS to their MKII primes.

Lastly, adding snap-back to MF rings on the older lenses (e.g., 35 1.4) to match the newer ones, like the 23 1.4.

    Perfect!

  29. A compact 35mm f/2 already comes with a nice body attached. Get an X-100T for not much more than a premium lens and enjoy leaf shutter and built-in ND, nice hybrid VF… ?

  30. A good value, not so huge 1:1 macro would be great – but 60mm seem not so ideal to me. Since for Portraits we now have the 56s the 60mm does not have to try to fill this gap.
There already is the 50mm from Zeiss and the upcoming 120mm – a new Macro somewhere around 70-80mm (105-120mm equiv.) – maybe with OIS would be great.

And as so many others here – I would buy a smaller, not so expensive 23mm… or better (for me) an 18mm MkII with better IQ, WR and maybe f1.7.

  31. Small primes f2 or f2.8 will satisfy a lot of Fuji users, especially those who came to mirrorless for size and weight (3 firsts fujinon primes were ideal in that respect)

But please, let aperture ring and quality construction alive : it is a pleasure to touch them et participate to the experience of taking pictures, really.

  32. I agree that is probably the reason for the non-existance of a 23 f2. I would gladly trade my X100S for an X-E2 with a 23 f2 lens.

  33. The only thing I don’t like about the current lenses is that they have no lock on the A position, the aperture dial is too smooth, and that manual focussing is not really nice. Unless I missed something, you cannot use manual focussing before pressing the release button, and you have to do this with every single shot.

      1. Yes I know, but it won’t work when pushing the shutter button half way. So using the manual focus is only usable for single shots with time to make a composition. When in a situation when there is a lot of movement, like in journalism, and you want to keep focussing while taking shots, this won’t work.

  34. Hold your horses FR. There’s also the 100-400mm super telephoto on the roadmap, so it’s not complete yet 😉

I’d love to see the 60mm macro with an f/2 maximum aperture and better autofocus. I’m indifferent as to whether it should be a 1:2 or 1:1 magnification though. I don’t do macro photography, but I appreciate the close focus distance of macro lenses when doing portraits.

Also, I’d love an f/2 variation of the 16mm lens to keep size and cost down, as it would be an ideal compromise between the 14mm f/2.8 and the 16mm f/1.4. I think there should be an f/2 variation of the 23mm lens as well.

    In addition, I would appreciate a 70mm f/2.8 1:1 macro/portrait lens, analogous to Pentax, Nikon and Minolta’s 105mm lenses. I’d snag that over a 60mm in a heartbeat.

It seems a lot of people would like a 16-80 f/4.

Maybe they should consider some perspective control lenses, like a 16mm, a 23mm and a 50mm.

And although I think big lenses defeat the compact intent of mirrorless, some f/2.8 telephoto primes at 130mm, 200mm and (maybe at f/4) 300mm lengths would be good options for wildlife and sports photographers.

All with weather sealing I hope. TBH all I need is either a 60mm f/2 or a 70mm f/2.8 macro. (I’m not interested in the 56mm f/1.2 because of both cost and lack of reach/compression).

    -AP

  35. I’d like to see a suite of small portable lenses, all metal, sealed, with aperture ring and preferably the same filter size. A 16/2.8, 23/2 – 2.4, the coming 35/2 and a small short tele – maybe 75/2.8 or similar. (And please, the 18mm and 27mm are not substitutes for a 16mm and 23mm.)

  36. What I need in order for me to totally abandon my Nikon gear is at least one tilt/shift lens. I’d be happy with a single 35mm equivalent but two: 24mm and 45mm would be better. Fuji, please put that on the lens roadmap. Next priority would be a superwide prime, say 14mm equivalent (9.5mm) or wider. Sealed lenses are great but not a major priority for me.

  37. I hope Fuji will release a sharp 16-70 (or 85) f4.0, WR, OIS with proper aperture ring. The current 16-55mm is too big and too heavy.
