The German Blog Photography-YouAndMe (Click here) posted some brand new image samples taken with the new Voigtlaender Nokton 42,5mm f/0,95 lens. The author writes: “Feeling as good as the two before but I felt it is much better in image quality. Even with open aperture it has a wonderful sharpness an bokeh. Death of field is outstanding. But this was preseries.”
The first images we posted on 43rumors were from Kakaku: f/0.95 image, f/1.4 image and f/2.0 image.
The lens price is still not know. But shipment is scheduled for summer. Save this search on Slidoo to be notified when the lens will be available for preorder on eBay.
For the record. These are the five f/o.95 lenses:

Possible price?
Sorry, unknown price.
1500 Euro
Thanks.
I dont understand, more expensive than the 25mm and the wide 17mm?
DEATH of field?
@Admin: This is one typo that I seriously hope you don’t correct, because it’s a form of spontaneous art. 🙂
Who’s with me?
+1,
yeah death of field,DOF is nosense
It’s a killer lens 😉
f/0.95 means “death of field.” That’s hilarious, whether intentional or just a Freudian typo. 🙂
I’m really hoping it’s small size and close to 50mm focal length will keep under the price of the 25mm…
Then there’s Panasonic coming a year later, and probably SLR Magic.
+1
After using the Nokton 25 I am addicted to manual focus, now I hate using my AF lenses!
+1000!
Same here. I love my Voigtländers! There’s just something about the feel and image quality of them that AF lenses can’t begin to approach! Can’t wait to get a 42.5mm… and a 17.5mm!
it looks a lot more compact than my 17.5mm beast!
I think I’ll hold out for the Panasonic. Hopefully it won’t be much bigger than this with the autofocus mechanisms. I do lust after all 3 of these lenses though.
“Death of field” is probably the funniest typo I’ve ever seen in this site. 😀
agree
The field is so thin, nothing is in focus
Probably the most accurate typo too
I like the design of the lens but very unlikely to get it due to no AF . Really hope the incoming Pana’s F1.2 lens can produce something similar with this or such as the 75mm F1.8 .
next high light lumix len 14-42 II HD test,i guess

Seems to be even much better than the ‘legendary’ 14–45. Congratulations, Panasonic!
First I’ve heard of this?? Look forward to picking up one cheap that was part of a kit in a few months time.
And the subjects he’s chosen with this lens are stupid box, lamp and another lens?
It looks like all three links f/0.95, f/1.4, and f/2.0 all point to the same image.
That would really be the death of DoF 🙂

0.95 picture looks like shit, all ghosty and blurry. Pictures made with affordable 85/1.8 lenses on FF (canon/nikon 85/1.8, samyang 85/1.4) look much sharper/contrasty with ~ the same DOF.
I think the problem with a lot of sample shots from these lenses is that in order to exaggerate the shallow DOF appearance they invariably take close up shots some at minimum focus distance. Perhaps as you say because the effect at normal portrait distances does not look anything special which to be hones it isn’t an F1.9 equiv DOF as a FF 85mm is not that big a deal, plus the Nikon 85mm F1.8G by all accounts an excellent performer costs $390 this lens will be well north of $1000.Honestly if you really love chasing shallow DOF so much that you are in the market for two or three $1200 manual focus lenses then you are probably using the wrong system.
I think the problem with your argument is that that 85/1.8g would also require buying another camera and invariably results in a bigger overall setup, Looking at a lens in isolation has its uses, but it doesn’t tell you which camera is best for you.
Any camera setup is a compromise, pick one that suits your needs, but realize that whatever choice you make, it will still be a compromise, and some others will pick a different compromise because it suits them better.
Personally I’m not interested in paper thin depth of field. I use this kind of lenses simply because I love shooting in dim light.
Exactly! Shooting in near-darkness is what these f0.95 lenses are made for.
That is a sexy lens
Lucky guy being able to get a sample lens like this one, but could he not do some more shooting with it? Or was it restricted?

Manual focus in 2013?, no thanks. Only for classic lens
In 2013, people ain´t got no brains and fingers to set focus manually with a modern lens, right? But still, they can handle a “classic” lens. What a weird world…
What is a ‘classic” lens? How would you define one? Brand? Size? Silver? Fast? 35-50mm? Mount? Has thingies to turn? Has DOF markings? pre 1970? pre 1950? Metal? Prime?
I like my wide aperture lenses but MFT cameras are limited to a max shutter speed of 1/4000 sec so in good light shooting wide apertures means using ND’s and depending upon the lighting and framing it could mean that you need an ND for one shot, two stacked for the next and no ND’s for the next shot when your shutter speed drops to 1/30 sec at ISO 1600. A PITA IMVHO.
PLus the ND juggling is made more likely as ISO 100 disappears off new cameras.
Panasonic and Olympus – PLEASE upgrade the cameras to enable shooting to a max shutter speed of 1/8000 sec and include lower ISO sensitivities. ISO 100 should be a necessity and 50 would be nice too.
FYI they do make variable ND filters. I have one for video, but it would alleviate many of the problems you describe. But yes, a faster shutter speed is always welcome.
I still take the faster shutter speed and lower sensitivities please.
Variable ND’s still leave you with the problem of lens thread sizes leading you to have multiple VND’s in different sizes or adapters to enable use one on more than one sized lens.
Lower sensitivities when they are ‘real’ are useful, but the ‘extended’ ISO 100 and 50 that you often end up with are of zero value for photography (they are of some value to video).
The reason for that is simple, they are still using the same base sensitivity, take 1 or 2 stop overexposed images, and then darken the result. You can do this at least as well if not better in post processing.
I’m afraid a slow increase of base sensitivity over time is unavoidable as it satisfies the very significant part of the market that wants better performance at moderate and high iso levels.
Hi Bart,
as you say a lot of people seem to want the high ISO performance to be most important. Personally I would much prefer a maximum quality lower base ISO.Looking through the large online photo hosting sites Flickr,Pbase,SmugMug etc , the vast majority of images are taken at low ISO
Shutter speed? some, a few dslrs 1 stop faster. Vast majority same or slower.
a short video i shot with the 0,95/42,5:
http://youtu.be/kYnw6ngXzvo
the pics from kakaku are made with the 25mm, NOT with the 42,5!!!!
and i really like the typo….will use from now on the term “death of field”!
enjoy!

Depth of field! 😉 sorry
I have put my name on the waiting list for the first batch to arrive… I can’t wait.. :).
Looks like an awesome lens. I just ordered and received this week my SLR Magic HyperPrime 25mm Cine T/0.95. I emailed them last month and was placed on their pre-order list. I received an email from Jane at SLR Magic late last week stating they are taking payment for pre-orders. I completed payment via PayPal that night and the next day received an email that the lens was shipping that day, and I received the lens two days later! They are discounting the lens $150 for a limited time, and for the first 100 customers they are giving a free lens-specific 49mm-77mm step-up ring and lens cloth. I have not shot with the lens much yet, but so far image quality is very nice wide open at T/0.95. Of course, focusing at T/0.95 can be difficult as depth of field is beyond razor thin. I have posted only a few SOOC JPEG samples from my GH3 and plan to upload more as I can. So far it is an incredible lens, in both build and image quality.

100m equivalent would be better on 4 thirds sensor.
“Death of field”
Yeah, like that!
