RUMOR-BOMB coming VERY SOON! Just a HINT for now ;)

 photo Cyristal Ball Empty_zpseh7zrovx.jpg

I’ve received a Very Hot Rumor from a source, who was right in the past (!). I’m excited to share it… I will write it now ;).

Once it’s written, I’ll send the text to the source for review and as soon as I have its “OK”, I’ll push the “PUBLISH” button and share the good stuff!

For now I’ve just quickly shared a little Hint earlier today over at the brand new Fuji X Forum, where the wild guesses already started. Read the hint here… and Feel Free join other fellow X-shooters and myself over there.

to be continued…

    1. Organic sensor would be interesting! Hopefully the lens are future proof 😉 but fact is the pic quality of the current x-Trans are already superb! Can’t image camera with greater dynamic range!

    2. Why would an organic sensor need, quote, “a New Camera Section” on the camera forum? An organic sensor that replaces X-Trans could fit perfectly well into a renamed X-Pro1/X-Pro2 forum, etc.

  1. Sigh, can you stop pushing your forum. Not everyone wants it, therefore don’t make people register. Click-bait much?

    1. nobody has to register… it’s a free world. and the information is also free, without any need to register 😉

        1. like almost everywhere on forums. and that photo is just a selfie of myself in the bar. There are some pictures of me on facebook, some on twitter. It does not add anthing to the rumor

          1. Ah ok, then I understand. No information was left out, then its fine. I just dislike all the forums forcing people to register in order to watch photos.

          2. This is true, only makes me less inclined to actually register most of the time out of annoyance.

    2. He has every right to, why not? If you don’t like it don’t register, as simple as that. Forum is a more proper way to communicate anyway…

  2. I’m going to go batshit crazy here and say its an X-E3 with IBIS organic sensor that uses sensor shift technology to pull an effective 900MP and a mini nuclear battery that lasts 20 gazillion shots. Amirite?

    1. IBIS is soo outdated. It’s an organic sensor, it’s alive! Sensor warp provides for a 10-dimensional stabilization, as well as leveling of the event horizon.

          1. Thats the portrait mode. Then there’s also landscape mode1 (suuuper cloudy&stormy) and mode 2 (sunny).

  3. Organic sensor APS-C that could change native resolution from 16 to 24 and 36MP with 16, 15 and 14 stops of DR respectively. Plus an EVF with zero lag even at 10 fps.

  4. X100r: oRganic
    Aka:
    xo100!

    xoxo xoxoxo!

Where’s Yun!? We need to high five! The Great (Organic) Pumpkin is landing!

Or maybe it’s just a paid firmware bringing Classic Chrome to the X10. 🙂

    1. Seriously? Nobody is going to reply: “Shut your mouth!”? Really? You can’t dig it?

    1. Built for a modern X camera that has interchangeable backs for digital, a lower-cost APS-C or full frame crop sensor back, 4×5 film, 6×7 film, 35mm film, Polaroid/Instax and a b/w digital back as well? With waist level finder? And with a special deal with Sigma for a compatible Foveon back? And we can upgrade back and camera independently? Yes please!!!

Yeah, very low probability, I know, but, oh, the possibilities.

  5. the rumor is written and send to the source… now I’m just waiting the source to read it, review it, eventually change some parts… and then it goes online

  6. If you say “we may need a brand new section” it means something pretty different from today…
New line (not Pro, E or T) or new format (not APS-C) are my strongest guesses.
Even the organic rumor could still fit into the current sections, unless they decide to call it something else than X-trans?
    Can’t wait for the news…

    1. I think an organic sensor camera would need a new section… an X-OG1 would be a new line… but is it what this rumor is about? 😉

  7. X-Pro2 with a larger sensor FF or 1.3, since they’ve been delaying a successor to the X-Pro1, that would make quite a lot of sense.

      1. IMHO it would clarify the term ‘Pro’ and it’s also long overdue, makes sense to me.

          1. No, because “Pro” should offer something better than the T-line of cameras.

        1. believe me, my fingers are BURNING!!! But I don’t want to endager a good relationship with a source, who was right in the past (and is straight on the way to become trusted). So I won’t publish anything before i have an email with its “OK… the text is fine!”

          1. And in the meantime the Source has gone to bed, to enjoy a well deserved 8 hours night sleep.
            Noooooooooooo

  8. I’m predicting either 35mm Full Frame, an Panasonic LX100 competitor with an X-Trans m43 sized sensor or a RX100 competitor with a 1″ X-Trans sensor or finally a superzoom with a 1″ X-Trans sensor.

    1. That’s too easy there’s a double mount and with two APSC lens to cover the MF sensor, must be something else.

      1. Nah, Fuji MF will come with quad APSC adapter – you must mount 4 identical XF or XC lenses to cover the frame. But it will capture a 3D image with ability to refocus in post!

          1. Each lens projects a 2D image, and there are 4 of them… So 4^2=16. And Fuji colors provide for yet another dimension.

            That’s a 17D capture, yay!

(fine print: no RAW support expected for the next 2 or 3 millennia)

          2. At least from Adobe; Guess we’ll all have to buy Macs, it must therefore be a conspiracy to kick Microsoft & Adobe out of business.

  9. Fuji understands the market better than anyone else and releases the first mobile phone with Xtrans aps-c sensor.

Apple shares are plummeting, Samsung’s boss jumped through the window.

      1. Considering the thickness of a mobile, FF now stands for Fully Flexible (ie you must curve your mobile to take a shot), or Famously Flat

    1. My guess is a Fuji Watch with APS-C sensor. This will change street photography forever.

  10. My money’s on medium format. That’s what the pro X-shooters have been hinting at and suggesting to Fuji for the longest time.

    1. Too expensive for most people and with cameras like the D810 and the Canon 50MP 5D series there’d be much competition.

      1. Nothing would come close to an xTrans MF – Judging by the result they produce on a mere 16mp APSC …

      2. The X-T1 is also “too expensive for most people”, yet it sells. The 5D, 1D and D4 are “too expensive for most people”, yet they sell. You’d think there wouldn’t be many people buying £2,000 L-lenses, but the 70-200 2.8 IS one of the most profitable pieces of glass on the market.
Also, the big argument against the Canon 5DS and 5DS R is that 50mp is nothing compared to what medium format cameras already put out, and it’s still the 35mm look instead of the 6×4.5 look. (Let alone the 6×6 and 6×7 looks that most medium format shooters actually want.) Medium format isn’t made redundant by high-MP DSLRs, high-MP DSLRs are made redundant by medium format.

There is also very simply the reality that not every camera a company makes has to be a 1,000,000-unit seller in the hands of every tourist, generic wedding photographer and hobby shooter. You can very easily make a more specialised product work by simply making a more appropriate amount of units. Canon doesn’t shift as many 1DX bodies as it does 5D3 bodies, so it makes more 5D3 bodies and fewer 1DX bodies. That doesn’t mean the 1DX is pointless or a failure, it just means Canon is being smart and setting unit production to match market interest. If a medium format Fuji wouldn’t be bought by every professional out there, that’s not a problem. You just make fewer units to satisfy the market that is there and for everybody else you’ve got your X-T1, your X-Pro2 and whatever else.

  11. A well respected classical nuke glides straight to the epicenter (what a precision!) on a parachute. But judging by descent of this one, it comes with a bunch of balloons.

        1. MF is about 4 times an APSC so they could just stitch 4 sensors together making it rather affordable. 😉

  12. I just hope it’s not X-mount FF. Most new lenses would then support both – at the cost and size&weight of FF glass, even for APS-C users. Announcement of FF Pentax made me switch to Fuji. Dedication to APS-C is what attracted me most.

  13. I hope it’s a Medium-Format camera which uses a selection of removable cartridges containing single-use sensors which are refeshed each time a lever is wound. Fingers crossed.

  14. Can someone answer:

What’s the point of medium format?

The lenses would be huge…. and FF/APS-C sensor tech are lifting above their weight these days anyway.

I guess I could understand an X100x with a big sensor to achieve different physics, but I don’t see the point in a whole new range of lenses?

    1. It’s advantages in terms of sharpness/detail are obvious when making large prints, but even on screen when you don’t need huge files with tons of pixels MF cameras produce much richer colors, more DOF control with more appealing falloff, way more dynamic range, etc. Plus most MF systems have leaf shutters that make using strobes outside easier but we already have that with the x100.

Great for commercial or fine art photographers who make giant prints or do heavy retouching, but yeah it’s not really needed for most.

  15. Well I lasted for about 2 days at your new forum before I ran into trouble. The Fuji commander there decided my posts were not up to his liking, so I’m out.

As far as the bomb? I hope it is an affordable Fuji rangefinder knockoff of the Leica. A dud bomb for me would be X-Pro 2 if it is just a X-Pro with a higher MP sensor.

Here is my post on the X-Pro versus the X-E1.

At the end of the next post I have a comparison shot from a Fuji X-E1 to a 24Mp Leica M240.

I wish Fuji made the sensors for the Leica and Leica made the controls for the Fuji.

    1. not before I have the expressed “OK” from the source, who has to review the text. I’ve send the email… just waiting now. I hope it will read and review it soon

          1. true, the Japanese source is the best source. But this doesn’t mean that this rumor comes from Japan.

          2. If, as The Man himself puts it, his fingers are burning, by the time The Source wakes up Patrick will be in E&R and we’re gonna have to wait another month before he can type.

      1. I can help with proofreading 😉
I can’t help about veracity but who cares?, it is a rumor after all.

        1. pff… Rico never shares anything (which was the deal since the beginning: “I don’t ask, you don’t share”). He even starts writing his first looks at 02:00 AM when I’m sleeping so that I can’t read them.

But luckily there are other ways to come to rumors 😉

          1. Can you give us some indications ?
Is it something we’ll want to buy ? Is it something we can eat, push, carry or … something; Is it a Company news ?
            Anything ?

          2. I think you’ll start saving your money as soon as I’ll share the rumor 😉

          3. I’ll tell you what’s going on here. Patrick will be announced as the new CEO of Fujifilm Corporation. That’s why he’s so excited but still so cautious. Huge news indeed

  16. XPro2 and/or X-T2 with a next gen sensor that can match the resolving power of already existing lenses?

  17. Organic APSC, or m43, or FF.
    Current-gen FF or MF
    Current APSC without CFA
    X200
No XP2, it will be replaced with a new line with a new name. XP1 was the first and will be the last of that line.
    …
    What else?

  18. Yeah it’s a Medium Format camera. I personally don’t care for MF but I’m sure some will be delighted 🙂

  19. X-Pro2, and some form of MF rangefinder, are the only two new cameras in the pipeline, unless there’s now another new camera in development.

  20. All your wishes come true: Fuji X-T1 HELLO KITTY edition!

…but wait, there’s more! Stella McCartney camerabag (limited edition) in WHITE! How awesome is that?!!

      1. Graphite Silver Hello Kitty instead of pink now that’s a first !
Patrick were are the preorder links ?

  21. And now something completely different. THE BOMB-RUMOR: FUJI
BOUGHT BY CANON. Sorry, just joking.

    1. No it’s a very very small digital “wearable” camera/smartphone which will be called an eye-phone. 15′ surgery and off you go; All the Street photography you’ll ever want in a nice package

    1. oh yeah of little faith.
It’s going to be priced at the right level … the one I can’t afford !
But in case, I have just put one of my kidneys on ebay

      1. Don’t know whether you’re aware of this, but a kid in China really sold his kidney for an iPad… not funny. 🙁

  22. Medium format is such an expensive market and with constant decline in camera sales I don’t know if they will even go for such risky operation. But who knows, nobody was probably expecting Fuji to come out with a rangefinder and they did, but it was definitely a cheaper risk than medium format. I personally am waiting for x200 as I want a small compact everyday rangefinder.

          1. Another one. I always figured that a large chunk of Fuji users who bang on about retro controls were really just hipster kids…

          2. And what about you relax and enjoy whatever you’re having.
Don’t be so darn serious, bad for the heart

          3. All I said was they aren’t rangefinders, then get accused of being a crack head by the crazed fandom. Not rangefinders, sorry to burst your bubble.

          4. Do you really believe those cameras are rangefinder cameras? If so, you are the one who is high.

          5. It isn’t semantics, if it doesn’t HAVE a rangefinder it IS NOT a rangefinder. Equal to calling the sky green and pointing at a truck and saying ‘burger’.

          6. So your arguement is you have no arguement, so you point and say ‘strawman’? Seems rather fitting…

          7. That’s funny! What fallacy? The only one here is calling something something it isn’t, ie an X100 a rangefinder.

          8. Take your meds and then go for a walk maybe you’ll take some nice photos on your way.

          9. More personal attacks. Well done. Learn to accept that in life occasionally you’ll be wrong, it’s ok, it’s how we learn.

          10. What is sad that you have enough time on your hands to go around and pick fights(and go on for hours) because you cannot understand what someone means in their posts.

          11. Which you claim ‘everyone understood’ yet of the three total people that have responded two thirds have responded by saying you were incorrect. Yet you keep on thinking you are in the right with your personal attacks, thin arguments that are really just nothing more than proving you had and have nothing, just some pride that will be hurt so you go on the offensive instead. Again sad for you.

          12. I was not incorrect in the sense I meant my post to be taken. You on the other hand thought I am talking about rangefinder mechanism which I was not. Hence my argument about semantics and how you took my post for literal meaning of “rangefinder” rather what I was implying.

          13. Sigh. Well maybe instead of attacking me you could have clarified what you meant instead? Which makes me think that is not what you meant at all, but whatever. Clearly you can’t back off when you cannot possibly admit when you are wrong, I’m sure you’ve ‘never’ done anything wrong in your short life.

            Enjoy being right.

          14. I could have been more specific in what I meant by rangefinder in the original post. What I meant in original post is that fuji wasn’t afraid to go retro to rangefinder look with x100 and xpro which clearly were successful cameras for them. I wasn’t implying that Fuji came out with cameras with a rangefinder mechanism as I know that neither xpro nor x100 have it and both have hybrid viewfinders.

          15. @SEQLARI guess you should leave him alone; he’s having a semantics bad trip, he’ll have a seizure if you insist.

Technically they are not rangefinders, like the XT-1 is not a SLR. The commonly accepted terminology refers to the form rather than the function, but this goes above his head.

          16. Yeah technically we shouldn’t be calling many things the way we call them but everyone should understand the meaning that x100 is pretty much a rangefinder “style” type of camera. This is what I meant but this guy just wants to pick fights and play the semantics game. Internet semantics police.

          17. Ok then I will reply in a different way: why wouldn’t Fuji release a ‘rangefinder style’ camera considering everyone was doing it already?

Pointing out something that is blatantly wrong is not semantics.

          18. Well I guess then that we should go calling the X-T1 a DSLR now, no need for the term mirrorless anymore no? And you really need to look up the word semantics, would you call a plastic steak ‘food’?

          19. Internet arguements 101, pull out the strawman card. You were wrong, get over it. It’s a shame as Fuji make some lovely rangefinders.

          20. Ridiculous claims? Everyone seemed to have understood what I have said , the only person having a fit here is you because you are so strung on literal meanings.

          21. Yes because everyone here is drinking the kool-aid? You first response was that I must be high, as in off with the fairies, then it’s suddenly semantics, then straw men. Now it’s me being too literal, maybe what you should have said after my initial response was ‘what I meant was a hybrid optical viewfinder’ or ‘sorry I meant a rangefinder style camera’ rather than launching straight into personal attacks?

          22. Everyone seems to understand what I mean except you. That should explain to you that you need to stop being the internet police.

          23. Still can’t admit it, I’m sad for you. Yes the x100’s and x10/20 and X-Pro1 are all amazing rangefinders, not terribly original though following on from the Canon G series, Panasonic L1 and LC1 and things like the NEX-7, Olympus PENs etc etc, but excellent rangefinders all the same.

          24. Earlier on you might have had a point (although everyone was understanding what seqlar said) not you’re being downright silly. As for the Plastic steak being called ‘Food’, have a word with McDonald’s before being so affirmative

          25. So calling plastic food is wrong or ‘silly’, but calling a rangefinderless camera a rangefinder is a-okay so long as it’s the beloved. Blinker much? Not a rangefinder any more than an X-T1 is.

          26. Giving up – You won the argument oh Master. Not very entertaining though

          27. Well perhaps a reasonable discussion is in order for once, rather than attacking someone who dare defy the status quo of Fuji awesomeness? Hybrid VF is an amazing thing, can it not stand up on its own? Or does it need to be called something it isn’t for validation? Genuine question.

          28. No it does not and you are right. But clearly You, I and the rest of the world understood that ‘Rangefinder’ applied to the form, not the function. So alhtough technically excat this whole sub-thread is completely useless. You’ll have to admit that.

It is unlikely that we will ever see another genuine rangefinder camera. The X100(xxx) are the next best thing since they’ve improved on the original.

          29. Actually I really didn’t and I absolutely understand the use of the term ‘rangefinder style’ camera. But the context was ‘nobody expected Fuji to release a rangefinder’ which honestly makes no sense, of course they would release one in one way or another, they were flavour of the month after all at that time. What no one expected was them to release a camera with a hybrid viewfinder like that.

As for ‘improving the original’ I’m afraid we will have to agree to disagree. They really aren’t the same thing at all.

          30. If you remember Fuji what in the DSLR game (S2 Pro, S3 pro and S5 pro) until Nikon refused (apparently) to sell them the next available body (D300 at the time) then they pretty much disappeared bar some entry level cameras.

Then they came back with a splash with a rangefinder /style/ camera, their excellent sensor and started the X-series story. Basically they came from nowhere to a complete and coherent system with slr-styled and rangefinder-style camera. each time improving on the original-styled equivalent (may be we disagree on that)

            This is what was unexpected.

The rest of the competition at the time was miles behind in features/capabilities or in front on price

          31. Absolutely I do, but again I would like to make a couple of corrections:

            1. Not Fuji’s sensor. Although Fuji did some excellent and entirely interesting things with their own sensor designs the X100 sensor was an entirely off the shelf product and actually, funnily enough, not dissimilar to the sensor found in the D300S.

            2. Rest of thecompetition were behind on features capabilities? Really? I had an X100 pretty early on as well as a number of other mirrorless ‘rangefinder’ style cameras and (apart from the excellent and still quite unique hybrid VF I discussed before) was pretty ho-hum in ‘features and capabilities’, certainly took the retro idea and control layout to an improved level however.

          32. And let’s be clear on ‘the rest of the world’, of the three people that have responded to the OP, two of them have corrected him. One has defended him. Is that an accurate sampling of ‘the rest of the world’?

          33. Probably because the rest of the world has not bothered. I have not really defended him, just tried to explain the misunderstanding or supposed misunderstanding.

Now if we could leave that topic to rest ….

          34. And that leaves the same sample group. I know you have been reasonable, though I still take offence to it being suggested I must be high. But yes, happy to let it rest here.

          35. Yes, all of this bitching because I missed “style” after rangefinder and you had to make a point that the viewfinder in x100 or xpro isn’t the true rangefinder mechanism. Who gives a shit. Everyone knows what I meant by my post. The idea is that Fuji wasn’t afraid to go retro look and make their cameras look like rangefinders. Yes mechanism is different. So what? You are playing semantics game. I never meant to claim that the cameras themselves have rangefinder mechanism in them. DUH, i know how hybrid viewfinder and rangefinder operates. I have old analog rangefinder.

          36. You really are showing your age here. If that is what you meant it is more stupid then it originally came across. But at least you win. Good day.

          37. The only one stupid here is you as you clearly have too much time on your hand trying to argue with others. Get a life. Go outside.

          38. Hahaha yet you keep replying, guess I’m not the only one? It is freezing outside and pitch black, but thanks for the suggestion.

          39. I’m at work but I wish I could be outside instead of fighting over semantics.

        1. those are not rangefinder cameras…. although you could call them “rangefinder styled” cameras. its similar to that the xt1 looks like an old slr camera but it but that doesn’t make it a slr…

    1. There’s only one digital rangefinder camera, it’s called Leica M – if you don’t get it, that’s fine, just don’t sweat over it, no point.

  23. I vote for MF mirrorless, probably with fixed lens thought I would like it with interchangeable lenses like old RF Fuji G690 (6×9) BL.

  24. It must be a Medium Format mirrorless.
SAR Admin said Sony is rumored to do the same…
So I think both Fujifilm and Sony are going to announce a MF mirrorless.
Don’t know if Fujifilm developed a proprietary MF sensor or if they will use Sony 50MP MF sensor.

  25. Is it safe to assume that the rumored product is different enough from an X-T10 that I won’t regret my preorder? Something not in the $1000-ish X-mount APS-C realm?

    1. Worse part being that they sing all the time, so you cannot take pictures where be quiet is of utmost importance, too bad.

    1. 7 velvia, 7 provia; They are busy trying to manufacture a Classic Chrome film but run into patent issues

        1. I must say that since the X-T1 I have learned to appreciate more the EVF than the OVF. For all the extras it provides (film simulation, rotation, exposure preview …) the only thing I am missing is the extra view we had around the actual zone being photographed, helped a lot for the decisve moment. I guess they could add that, since the image circle is lmarger than the pure apsc format. to me that would be awesome) But I am not missing the low light difficulties , parallax etc ….

          1. I was joking 😉 I really appreciate the EVF on the X-T1. Wouldn’t go back to OVF anytime soon. I’m currently not missing anything on the X-T1. I do welcome the new firmware for the occasional photographing of my son when he plays soccer.

  26. I would guess that Fuji will joint the stampede to a 1 inch sensor small camera. I think it is especially likely since the reviews of their smaller sensor cameras have been so negative about image quality compared to the competition.
