No April Fool’s Trick :: Fujifilm X-PRO2 will come in September / October (sources: Tom Grill & SLRClub)!

 photo ddda_zps0312o52k.png

Earlier today I posted an April’s fool Trick about a leaked image of a prototype X-PRO2. The guys behind this funny joke told me yesterday that they’d appreciate the support of FujiHumors… and I didn’t want to be the spoilsport ;).

But now let’s go back to FujiRumors… and this time it’s about the X-PRO2 release. We now have 2 more confirmations that the X-PRO2 will probably come in late 2015 (September or October).

SEPTEMBER: According to Tom Grill (aboutphotography-tomgrill) the X-PRO2 could be released in September. In an article written on March 23, he says:

“The impetus for this post came because I heard last week that the X-Pro1 would be replaced by a newer X-Pro2, probably in September of this year.”

A part from the rumor, it’s overall a good read. Check it out at aboutphotography-tomgrill (found via macfilos).

OCTOBER: DicaHub spotted (on March 31) a slightly different release date. It was shared by SLRClub user Daniel SON. Here is the translated text:

“I’m not a user of Fujifilm digital camera. I have a job related photography and am working in U.S.A. For this time when I visited WPPI at Las Vegas, I heard this from Fujifilm booth. Because I was considering to use Fujifilm cameras for shooting, I had tested X-Pro1 and X-T1 at Fujifilm booth and talked with Fujjifilm rep. He said X-T1, recently launched, might be better than X-Pro1 in overall performance and new model in X-Pro1 line is ready to be launced about Oct. of this year. Because he is staff of Fujifilm, might his words be sure? I bring this information because I think there might be someone to get information.”

There is light at the end of the tunnel… and I can see the contours of the Fujifilm X-PRO2… under my X-mas tree … let’s hope …  😉

  1. A tough comparison would be the new X-Pro2 vs. X-T1 with all the upgrades. The hardest choice, for me (and other 1.000.000 Fuji lovers), as an X-T1 fan and a X-Pro1 user. I have to decide this spring, if I should wait until late 2015, or get the great X-T1 – of course, selling my X-Pro1.

    1. Wait. X-T1 is great but they specifically mention “next generation” of cameras. We know that will mean a new sensor as well (finally).

    2. This is false thinking to put against each other X-Pro and X-T. They are different cams that cover different styles – most X-Pro1 users I know do not like X-T1, and most X-T1 users I know do not bother with X-Pro. You sound cattishly saying you are a big “fan of the great X-T1” but you do not own it, and also with your claim about 1.000.000 fuji users who will have “hardest choice” – as you – which camera to choose… but “of course” you will sell X-Pro1, you will not wait for X-Pro2 and you will buy “The great” X-T1. It’s very strange statement, sounds like PR rubbish of the store: “Buy now”.

      1. Regardless I would never own a X-Pro1 or 2. I am not a fan of the parallax issues, or seeing my lens in the viewfinder… Nah. I started with the X-E1, and now have the X-T1 and I’m very, very happy. As I said above, I would look forward to the X-T2 assuming the specs are better ISO performance even though it’s excellent now, and at least 24mp.

    3. The X-PRO2 should mark a significant leap forward in technology (so they promised)… So I believe it could be worth the wait.

Although, yes, the X-T1 won’t take worst pictures once the X-PRO2 is out

But at the end FR recommends: Wait for the X-PRO2 if possible 😉

  2. We’ll know more in a couple of months I’m sure. I’m more curious as to an X-E3, just give me better S/N performance, IBIS, and better ISO (50-25600), and then I’ll be happy to hand money over to upgrade. What would be really sweet is if Fuji do 35, 50, 90 manual focus f2 lenses with proper manual focus mechanisms.

    1. no news, sorry. The latest udapted specs list is this one:
      – Name: X-T10

      – cheaper version of the X-T1

      – no weather sealing

      – smaller EVF

      – same sensor of X-T1

      – coming late spring/early summer

      1. Much sooner than the Pro2 at least, if at all, might even be very close. An alternative to the E-M10 in the line-up makes sense. They can’t use that old sensor again once the Pro2 is out that’s for sure, it will have to be soon, and cheap. (not that it’s a bad sensor)

      2. I kinda wish fuji didn’t waste their time bringing out a cheaper version of the X-T1. I would have preferred they pooled their resources and came out with the X-T2 or whatever it’ll be called.

        1. They are not wasting their time. Putting all their “leftover” materials into a lower-end model, so that they can make even more money by attracting people who cannot afford the X-T1, but would like something similar.

  3. On the one hand, the time frame sounds about right… On the other hand, this rumour reminds me of…

My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.

(This is just some fun Patrick, you do a great job with the site and I hope the quote made you smile)

  4. Just because an XPro2 is coming out certainly does not mean the Xpro1 needs to be put out to pasture. It’s still an outstanding image making machine! With that being said, I am waiting for the X-T2 — hopefully with 24 megapixels. I currently use the X-T1 now, and shoot a ton of stock work with it. Actually, between my D300, D700, D3, D800, and my older Fuji S1 and S2 Pro, the Fuji accounts for 42% of my sales! How’s that for a freakin’ awesome camera!

  5. In other words, no announcement before October, no product before next year.

(And that’s assuming these guys’ sources are serious.)

  6. If the release date for the X-Pro 2 is indeed September/October this year, then I think it is very likely that the X-T2 will be available in February 2016, which will almost exactly 2 years after the introduction of the X-T1.

  7. Just yesterday, I had a chat with the manager from Fujifilm Russia. At the time I already had a very good look at his body language and microexpressions, so I knew exactly when he said “I don’t know” because of NDA and when he genuinely didn’t know. Well… it seems that if anyone on this continent really knows anything about the X-Pro2, that would be Fujifilm Japan, because Russians have no idea – just rumors, like us mortals.

  8. Nothing wrong with 16mp Fuji. It is a spectacular little sensor. OK, I would welcome a 28 mp organic in an X-E3, since the pushing low light shots with the Fuji breaks down. But my FF 24 mp Leica breaks down even worse than the Fuji.
Here are some ‘on the fly’ shots of sex tools that are in my book on Amsterdam’s Red Light District…. all16 mp Fuji X-E1.

I’ve told the camera fondlers and pixel peepers that flatbed scanned 35mm film is = to about 4 mp with a P&S

    http://www.photographycompared.tumblr.com/

So everything you get in res above 4 mp P&S with your digital cam is way over what film would produce.

If any of you can’t produce with 16 mp you wont produce with 116 mp either. All that you will produce is sharper garbage.

    1. Very true Dan. But doubtful you’ll make any inroads online. Most people on online gear sites are caught up in the revolving door of consumption. It’s good for business and it tries to satisfy an addiction, one which can probably never be truly satisfied.

      1. Instead of blaming the market for its demands, ask the corporations why they aren’t meeting the market.

Produce an item people stuck in the revolving door want, feed their addiction, or however else we want to deride the customer base that just happens to keep Fuji selling cameras, and Fuji might just keep on selling cameras. Or, just don’t sell customers what they want, and go broke.

Luckily, we are superior to all that because we already bought our superior toys, so now we can just look down upon those foolish latecomers.

    2. 20×30 prints from my D800 look better than upsized prints from my X-T1 (which still don’t look bad at all). There are obviously many factors involved but more resolution is more resolution.

And I don’t crop my images much, if at all, but it would be nice to have just a little bit more leeway there.

For the web it doesn’t matter at all; I’m just talking about prints.

I’m not a pixel peeper or gearhead or whatever names get thrown around in this type of discussion. I love the X100s and the X-T1, and I don’t care about full frame vs aps-c, but I really wouldn’t mind a little more resolution in the X-Pro2 or X-T2. I don’t want it because it’s trendy to have 24mp; I honestly would find it useful.

  9. Good god, man. That’s just Tom genuflecting. What he “heard” is almost certainly based on the same old rumors that the rest of us are hearing and that keep getting regurgitating. There’s absolutely nothing there to suggest an X-Pro 2 is arriving in September.

  10. Yes, there is a law of the universe that states that at any random point of time, the X-PRO-2 release date is always only six months out.

  11. If they worked harder with Adobe to produce de-mosaicing which actually works with X-Trans, I’d seriously consider an X-Pro 2.

    1. Since “everybody else” seems to to a much better job than Adobe, when it comes to Fuji X RAWs, I somehow doubt it is Fuji’s fault…

  12. I talked to my local shop yesterday and they’d been told by Fuji not to count on an update of the X-Pro for their Christmas promotions. So at least here, I’d suspect a later release date than Sep/Oct.

  13. Most, if not all, of the XPro 2 and XT-2 rumors mention them having bigger (24 or so mp) but few, if any, mention what kind of sensor. Will it be a bigger X-Trans sensor or will it be a bigger and better new type of sensor?

  14. I doubt it will be out in Sept/Oct. Last year this time, the rumor was for the end of 2014. Now, the end of 2015. The wait has been so long that it has to be a significant improvement over all of the X-Series cameras. So, I am expecting them to release it with organic sensor, 1/8000 sec shutter speed, base ISO 100, a brighter, larger OVF/EVF, etc.

Don’t get me wrong ~ I am looking forward to it. However, an X-Pro 1s update will not be suffice
