[UDPATE: First Reports at the FujiRumors facebook page say that the X-T1 AF has become faster in low light. Placebo or did you noticed this improvement, too?]
[UPDATE II: Admiringlight comparison NEW Vs. OLD OIS versions. From the conclusions: “Overall, the firmware updates for the Fuji zoom lenses appear to provide some benefit in all cases. These can range from fairly minor improvements, in the case of the 55-200mm, to a nice increase in sharpness for the 18-55mm, and a dramatic improvement with the 10-24mm.”]
[UPDATE III: Please DO NOT follow Fuji’s firmware update instructions… see with your own eyes!]
ORIGINAL POST
A new firmware update for the X-T1 and X100T (ver. 1.10) has just been released. Also, most zoom lenses will now profit from improved OIS.
X-T1 FIRMWARE
X-T1 firmware update: 1. Improvement of the flash function when “MECHANICAL+ELECTRONIC” is selected. 2. Improvement of the Wi-Fi function when “FUJIFILM PC AutoSave” is used. 3. Improvement of the display for the “USB MODE” in the SET-UP menu.
X100T FIRMWARE
X100T firmware update: 1. Addition of the messages when “COVERSION LENS” setting is changed in the FUNCTION (Fn) SETTING 2. Improvement of flash function when “MECHANICAL+ELECTRONIC” is selected. 3. Improvement of the viewfinder display. 4. Improvement of Focus Peaking display in the electronic viewfinder under a dark environment for easy focus setting.
IMPROVED OIS
Also, the OIS has been improved for the following lenses (download link): XF 10-24, XF 18-55, XF 18-135 and XF 55-200.
Happy Download 🙂

Good, but I need an x100s firmware update!
Wake up Fuji
+1
Haven’t you heard? X100S users to be left out in the cold from here on out.
I expect that also to be the case for XE1 users also.
Just out of curiosity, what do you need?
EVF refresh rate
Just updated both the X-T1 and 18-55.
Can you confirm any improvement of the OIS?
To short to tell. For that I need to do an extensive shoot and it is raining cats and dogs here at the moment..
Same here! 🙂 Storm “Niklas” is raging over Germany…
Yes it is quite windy here also in The Netherlands. I almost got blown away getting groceries this morning..
Maybe the new ois firmware works better under stormy conditions 🙂
lol!!
But I thought the X-T1 had environmental seals to keep cats and dog out.
Maybe cause the 18-55mm lens isn’t “cats and dogs” proof 😀
True, but I’m not weathersealed 🙂
I look forward to finding out the difference! May also only be PDAF related?
Can you make some tests to see if AF speed has increased? OIS works better? How? Thanks.
I updated to 3.10 before I updated the lens, I can confirm that the AF is a lot faster! 🙂
Is it me that got this message -> “Firmware Not be Found. Turn Off The Camera.” ? I have reformatted and redownloaded the firmware and tried other SD card and still shows the same error message. 🙁
Never mind guys. That was my bad. It was because the previous firmware (3.00) was FWUP0005.DAT on my mac’s Downloads folder and the new firmware (3.10) renamed the file name to become FWUP0005(1).DAT automatically. So I had to removed “(1)” to FWUP0005.DAT again before I copied onto my SD card and Voila!
Thanks Fuji for continuously improving. I’ve the X-T1, XF10-24 and XF55-200, and have successfully updated the firmware. Gonna try to use my YongNuo flash in ES+MS mode. Can’t wait to test the OIS on my two lenses!
I feel that the 55-200 zoom finds the focus 50% faster now …
Great. Just did my X-T1, 18-55, 18-135 and 10-24 🙂
OK, anything new about blocking autofocus till the flash capacitor fills up fully? Could it be just abandoned? It is better to get an underexposed shot than to miss the ”decisive” moment… My X100s suffered this, now X100t…
Where under ‘Detail of the Update’ – on the official Fujifilm firmware update page – does it say that there is an improvement in OIS for the X-T1 in the 3.10 update?
Its the lenses that need to be updated. Is it me but the IOS on the X1-Pro now does not seem to work. The XT-1 is working perfectly.
Nik H, what are you experiencing or not seeing when you said the OIS does not seem to work on the X-Pro1? I have an X-Pro1 and XF10-24 lens. I don’t to upgrade the XF10-24 firmware if it will cause a problem.
It works here, as it did before. No problems with OIS and X-Pro1!
ok just found it under lens updates. thanks Fujifilm
How about a “View Mode Toggle” for the X-E2?
Nice…. But Is the Love for X-E2 over…. I hope NOT!
That doesn’t bode well… I have an XE-1 so I might wait a bit for this one….
If you are thinking of an upgrade to the XE1 firmware, you have a long, long wait ahead of you.
Lens firmware.
First, thanks Patrick for keeping us posted. Great news, of course. Second, it would be great to see how those improvements work in real life situations, at least those concerning the OIS updates. Does it mean faster AF generally speaking? Faster AF in low light situations?
OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) != AF (Autofocus) 😉
There is a first test with the improved OIS up at admiringhlight (link updated in the post).
About the faster AF… at every update, there is somebody who says the AF has become faster. It might be true sometimes, but often it is just a Placebo. I look forward to test it tonight.
We are looking forward to your experience – for me, my “T” worked faster after the update, today I updated my colleague´s body with him watching me the whole time, and he also saw the major change in AF speed before and after without me telling him anything about this (he only knew about the known changes in the new firmware).
Just updated. Changes are welcomed.
It’s over. As an X-E2 owner, I am sad and regretting my purchase.
Oh come on guys..compare this to the amount of firmware updates other camera makers churn out. Really bored of seeing this attitude now…and yes, I own an XE-2 and an x100s..less of the entitlement attitude around here please. They both work fine.
funny, I just encountered the mechanical+electronic shutter flash problem yesterday 🙂
Thanks Fuji!
The issue with non-TTL flashes not firing when mechanical+electronic shutter was selected (even when shutter speed was slower than 1/180″) gave me quite a headache over the holidays, plus it made me leave my XT-1 on mechanical shutter most of the time. Glad to see that fixed!
Can someone clarify? Does this mean that the new OIS update will improve image stabilization as well as make for faster autofocus? Thank you
Not necessarily. It should improve OIS only and it would be surprising if AF was also improved.
Some people wrote that AF has been improved but we always have to wait a few days before we can say for sure as there’s often a lot of placebo effect going on when a new firmware is released. People get excited and they think they see improvements everywhere.
Try it yourself and make your own conclusions 😉
Try it for yourself! As I said, the AF improvement came from the camera update, not the lens update. I’ve been using my X-T1 enough to say that I could notice a difference. I’m a geek who knows my gear.
You’re right that OIS is different than AF.
However, when a lens is stabilized, it makes it a *little* easier for the camera to focus as your focus point doesn’t move as much.
Now since the lenses are already stabilized and we’re only getting an update (which I guess should be minor), I don’t think AF will improve.
To both of you,
I updated my X-T1 to 3.10 BEFORE I updated the lens, and the AF became a lot faster and more responsive. Summary: The AF improvement comes from the camera update, not the lens update. 🙂
That would make more sense coming from the camera’s firmware. I haven’t tried it yet but can’t wait. Weird that the release notes don’t mention anything about improved AF though.
Have you tried another lens, like the 35mm? Any improvements?
I updated from 3.00! I have always had High-performance turned on. So far I only have the 18-55, but another person further up also reports better AF-speed with the 55-200. 🙂
Thanks for verifying! Hope that your findings can be confirmed by others and for other lenses in low light situations.
Maybe FUJI has improved their AF algorithms. Time will tell, I mean a well controlled setup to prove this is not easy to do, so for me it’s just the feel you get from the update if the AF is faster or not. I will do some ‘experiments’ too.
I´ve seen it also with the 18-55 today, you are not dreaming 😉
BTW did you upgrade your X-T1 from v3.00 or from v1.10? Cuz v3.00 added PDAF which makes AF faster.
Thanks (as ever) for the firmware updates notice and the rest of the fujifilm info you regularly post.
Awesome that selector buttons can now be setup as a 1-touch focus area selector 🙂
James is now possible to move the area when checking focus (X5, X10 zoom) in manual focus mode?
thanks
Didn’t that happen with the last firmware update?
Ohh ~ I tot GS came with V3.00 ~ darn, been missing out all this while 🙁 bummer!
I upgraded both the 55-200 and the 18-55 on the Xpro-1 and they don’t work any more. Same with the switch on or off. Both work fine when put onto my Xt-1.
I’ve tested this with my 10-24, my 18-55, and my 55-200 on my own X-Pro1, and they all work fine. They work really well in fact.
In case the EXIF data fails to transfer, these two successive images were both handheld at 1/8th second at 200mm. I corrected the colour and resized the images, but otherwise OOC.
Care to guess which is which?
The type-o in the Lock Options menu is now gone.
Great, the AF speed grew significantly with the 55-200 after the body update (updated from 3.00), and the OIS after the lens update is really not bad, I can hold 1/20 repeatedly at 200 mm with sharp images. Again, Fuji works and does something for the users, really thanks!!!
Will be interesting to see if the 18-55 OIS is improved to not blur images at faster shutter speeds.
I had OIS set to mode 2 (shooting only) before firmware update to alleviate this.
I had to just turn OIS off to avoid it, only turning it on in lower light. I tested it the other night briefly, and it seems to be resolved. I’ll have to do some more comprehensive testing in the future, but I’m hopeful 🙂
there are several new lens updates out as well. Make sure you update your lens to get the best possible AF speeds.
Interested to see if 18-55 IO is any better after the update. I have always found it quite disappointing and was wondering if something is wrong with my lens. Now from the other comments I see I was probably not the only one
Happy for the OIS improvement on 10-24. Didn’t do scientific comparison but looks slightly better to me on the long end. Thanks Fuji ! 🙂
Still no fix for High ISO JPEG waxy skin effect. 🙁 Crossing finger for the next firmware update, and sticking to 2500 ISO max in the meantime…
Try setting NR to -2. It gets rid of the smudgyness for me.
Thanks for the tip, but I’ve been already on NR -2 since 1st day I got my X-T1. Extreme smudgyness still kicks in as from ISO 3200 🙁
First thing I did when bought the x100t. Still get horrorshow skins from time to time, even at NR-2. The solution would be for Fuji to treat us as adults, and give an NR-Off option for those who need it, like most camera companies do.
Still no X100S firmware update. Shame on you, Fuji!
+1 … very disappointing to me as X100S user
Bought a new one x100s, just before x100T release. 🙂 never buying new fuji again. 2nd hand maybe..
Darn, you can’t put those lens on you X100S ? that’s disappointing!
f*ing slap in my face this new “kaizen” policy. They should change it to something in Japanese that means “Buy – New”
Kaizen never meant “I’ll be releasing updates on interchangeable lens for a fixed lens camera” I suggested a bit of Japanese training 🙂
chill, dude, we get it that you really love Fuji beyond reason, whatever they do. no need to reply every comment.
I do not “love Fuji beyond reason” I enjoy what I have and am just really tired of people complaining about everything & the rest at each & every opportunity (on photography or any other activity) however silly and out of tune it can be.
Photography is supposed to be a hobby/passion (or a job for some of us but somehow I doubt we see many pros whining, there’s too busy trying to make a living) ie something one should be enjoying. Seems to be going out of fashion.
Kaizen also never meant “I´ll give you everything for free” – they would run out of money very fast if they would fully update every older model to the maximum. Surely the X100S could be updated with most of the X100T features, and the X-E series could be much more capable, but who would buy new cameras every year? It´s still business, and we are not the bosses in this game.
yes. we are the bosses. last time I checked, I choose where my money goes.
That´s just a imagination most people share – but yes, you can choose where your money goes. And when you or me decide to not give it to Fujiflm, a sack of rice fells over in China.
“Shame on you” is overly dramatic; “I am disappointed” would be more appropriate
and as far as I am aware you cannot change the lens on the x100S so what are you going on about ?
Just received a reply from Fuji stating that the headquarters in Tokyo decided not to update the X100s anymore.
Sad, very sad…
Thank you for this valuable lesson!
Faster but frustrating Fuji can’t enable the best performance from day one. I’m buying into a well conceived camera system, not a firmware project. I’m really getting nervous looking at this ‘interchangeable lens firmware compatibility table’ – a wave of young information engineers must have taken the lead of Fujifilm’s camera division.
Would you rather need to buy a “version-2” of the lens in order to get this update? Or are you saying they shouldn’t have released the lens in the first place before doing this work? Or do you see another alternative?
I’m content that the relationship with Fuji does not end with the exchange of money. Of course we all want better/cheaper products sooner.
I don’t know how old you are nor what you do for a living; but how comes you cannot get that people, engineers included DO learn ? So what would you rather have ? Fuji like any others keeps it’s findingsd and releases a Version II for each lens and make you pay big bucks for it or incrementally improve things ? Possibly during the developement of the Xpro2 they realised that some lens could gain and that they could teach some new tricks to the old dogs ?
And get over it, firmware, nowadays is an integral part of ” a well conceived camera system ” (or any system for that matter from your phone to your car, to a satellite launcher to almost anything you can think of) proof is in the pudding : a few years after launch your bit of inert glass can still evolve, change and improve!
I’m more in this kind of business that you think and “older people” have maybe a biit more experience DidierGM, so I can’t understand this concept. I like the update-philosophy of the bodies but the fact that also the range of lenses require this extensive kind of upgrade is quite unique and extremely cumbersome, user un-friendly. It’s not exactly the example of a well conceived hardware/software distribution model. I should expect that all major lens operating parameters are in the body FW, not somewhere on the lens PCB. What will in the future happen with a newer lens FW on a body that doesn’t get updates (like the X100S) anymore? I’m not so sure about this statement “Fuji does not end with the exchange of money”. Btw, didn’t Fuji claim to have the fastest AF? In reality we all know that’s a joke – since the original X100 it must be about the 20th firmware related to AF improvements. So, you pay for (expensive, premium) gear… and get the expected performance only 1 or even 2 years later. F.i. I always found the XF55-200mm a slow performer compared to the better DSLR-counterparts, well now it feels like a different lens, so…? There’s one golden rule in my engineering world… ‘design things first time right’ but the sad reality is that Fuji failed to develop the bullet-proof AF-system the X-series deserved from the very first release and about 4 years later they are still modifying the algorithms and settings.
I really disagree ChatNoir. The XT1 was a really wonderful camera to use from day 1, with really wonderful lenses. I still think it is the best camera there is out there full stop (including compacts, CSC, DSLR). Of course it had some frustrating aspects, but all cameras have (even Leica). I am really happy that Fuji is listening to our requests and modifying the firmware to accept our comments and recommendations.
The XT1 now is simply a better camera of an already very good camera thanks to the 40 seconds necessary to upgrade the firmware. Meanwhile, everybody else had to change several camera bodies to get what we get with a simple firmware update (Sony, anyone?).
In other words:
1) We have an excellent camera which simply gets slightly better at every firmware update
2) We have top quality lenses that we can get to be even better thanks to firmware updates.
What is wrong with that??!! I wish the manufacturers of the other cameras I have / had were following the same pattern!!!!
No, other manufacturers didn’t. That’s true. They didn’t require to, as in most cases, their cameras and glass came fully FW-competent on the market the day they were released unto the next decade. FW updates are not a blessing. They are cumbersome, in particular how Fuji deals with it. It feels to me also like a new kind of uncertainty is introduced on a device that I require to be 100% stable, I never trust developers. I’m not the kind of fanatic that is completely blinded by just a logo. In developing the X-series Fuji made quite a few unlucky design decisions they are still rectifying. And obviously, the AF algorithm and concept is one of these. I’ve really never sought a better AF with my Nikon FX cameras. I bought them, used them, they were perfect and reliable in any sense. Even older AF-D lenses still performed perfectly. When using Fuji X under completely identical photographical situations, I’m still fearing the low light behavior because I know I might not get what I wanted to do. The X-Pro1 was very frustrating in particular settings and I didn’t find the ISO-behavior so ‘top notch’ as some claim. It’s good, but (very) far from being the best. The X-T1 is having a better AF, and I didn’t test this FW, but a few weeks ago I wanted to shoot an event in a dim space full of colored LED and fluorescent tubing. Both flashes and high iso really delivered very disappointing pictures (and I really know how to operate a camera ;- )). I already mentioned it in other posts – the Fuji AF (and to a certain degree also the sensor) has issues with some types of lighting containing blue and green components – well it’s still there in the X-T1. When I buy a BMW, I want to drive one, not a car that looks similar to it and promises to deliver the same competence after a few upgrades. Well, that’s Fuji: I’m still waiting for the ‘the fastest AF on the market’.
Why even second hand ? You increase the chance of getting a dud, without of Kaizen reach.
Could it be because whatever you say you still like the results you’re getting from the x100s ?
Anyone noticing increased vignetting with the 10-24mm after the update? I’m post processing in LR and things seem a tad darker in the corners at 10mm. Not 100% on this, just curious if anyone else thought it was different.
Hi guys, I’m having problems with the white balance after the update. I usually shoot RAW and JPG. Since 3.10, JPGs will have the WB I chose, but the RAW file would show Auto WB. This is bad as I work with strobes most of the time.
In the attached picture I intended the blue cast on the top OOC JPG to show my point. Whereas the bottom RAW shows the Auto-WB.
Does it have something to do with the settings?
How do I feedback to Fuji?
And in the meantime, can I revert to 3.0?
I tried shooting RAW only. On camera it reflects the WB I chose, but on my computer, it’s on Auto WB. Has Fuji tweaked its RAW file structure?
