  1. I miss my kick ass DSLR autofocus and I must say I like the Fuji a lot but my canon 5d3 is easier to navigate and make quick changes

    1. Fuji needs to make the menu more responsive. For example with an option to turn off the menu animations and a personal favorites menu at the top (e.g. I need Format a lot).

      1. Funny, I moved from a Canon Mk II (no slouch) to Fuji, and I have better
autofocus speed, low light focus, dynamic range, color, fidelity. And I haven’t tested it, but I’d reckon that resolution is nearly the same, given what is lost due to the Mk II’s AA filter. No
idea what you mean by “performance”.

        1. From a 2008 camera to a (at least) 2012 one. That Canon has been surpassed by everything, including other Canon cameras.

        2. I don’t agree about autofocus speed and low light performance but Fuji colors are amazing.
I too came from Canon to Fuji and I have never, not even once, regretted it. But focusing was indeed noticeably faster on the DSLR. Now I’m sometimes missing moments because my camera is hunting. But lenses are getting faster and faster so at least we’re seeing improvements year after year.

  2. Man, Fuji guys are some of the biggest whiners I have ever seen. They can’t just enjoy their camera and their photography, they always have to justify to themselves how it compares to FF. It’s as if they live in a never ending cycle of buyer’s remorse and constantly need the affirmation that they made the right choice buying into the system.

It’s like that one guy we all know who overcomes his insecurities by constantly trying to put other people down. I’m so cool, girls love me, look how popular I am guys… guys??

FWIW, I shoot Fuji APSC and Nikon FF. They both complement each other very well. I get weight savings and amazingly small primes in my Fuji while I get balls to the wall no compromises performance on my Nikon. I can sneak my X100T into ‘no photography’ zones by pretending it’s a film camera, something that my D810 and 35 1.4 will never be able to do. On the other hand, I can shoot a crystal clear night timelapse at true 14mm 2.8 on my D810 while my XT1 and 10-24 won’t come close to the IQ and noise.

Different tools for different purposes. Enjoy what you have. Stop comparing your gear to what other people shoot. Stop trying to justify what your camera is to other camera nerds on the internet. The vast majority of your general population audience won’t be able to tell the difference anyway.

    1. Whatever idiot is being quoted in the title obviously doesn’t speak for every Fuji user, you know because you are one. Problem is that this is a rumors site and Admin likes to quote sensationalist things, and apparently it is starting to damage us Fuji user’s reputation.

There are radicals for every religion brand, and while it may only be a fraction of the total amount, they are often the loudest. Even if you wanted to ignore these x vs x battles, they always seem to get the spotlights.

      1. the “idiot” who asked why we need Full Frame might have damaged Fujfilm (and so FR might have damaged Fuji, since I reported about it – but how couldn’t I… this is the most liked & commented image ever on the FR-facebook page)

but than I look at the image that “idiot” made, and think he just made the best spot for the capabilites of X-series cameras.

        1. The choice to put exactly that quote so prominent in the title was yours, and imho it doesn’t add anything of value to the great images below it, it only provokes fights in the comments and elsewhere. You have to realize that you do have influence on the Fuji community, what you choose to report can affect the general perception it seems.

It was not necessary to report on him insulting FF users, calling them moaners. An image like that is just a great image, and has nothing to do with FF vs APSC at all. Yet we have another fight on our hands .. i don’t think you have to wonder how that happened.

I’m not angry about it or anything, just .. my observations.

          1. I think that your observations have some value. In fact the sentence put on the title had the opposite effect I hoped. I reckon people don’t looked at the image, but just go to the comments… which was not what me (and the photographer) wanted to achieve with this provocation.

So thanks for sharing your observations… from now on, I’ll talk just about Medium Format 😉

    2. let me add one more whine. let fuji drill a side hole in x-t2(0) body for a secondary screw mount along the lense axis so i dont have to buy a ridiculous perpendicular sliders for panoramic snapshots. thanx 🙂

    3. JWhan, I beg to differ. You might be confusing those that perfectly accepts fuji’s position on aps-c including its limitations as against those who keeps whining about fuji’s not going full frame.

Those people have their own personal agenda or needs but That doesn’t mean it makes good business sense for fuji.

What they fail to consider is, do they really believe that by going full frame fuji will increase its market share? Considering that it will put them in a higher price bracket which will in effect actually even make their customer base smaller.
Notwithstanding that that small segment is already crowded with competitors already.

My take is, just accept the reality that fuji’s will be staying aps c for now. If you feel you need FF, then buy a FF camera.

  3. I finished another wedding last night and would like to say it again – Fuji hurry the f#%ck up and make a to flash for you bloody camera system. How long do we have to wait!!!! This is getting f#%cking ridiculous. Making all these great cameras but no f#%cking flash to compliment it.

      1. Which flash is coming? Was there a rumour about Fuji making a flash that I missed?!? Just bought the EF-42 two weeks ago…

  4. Real resolution. Fuji – is great system for web, but even with great sharp lenses – its just crop, and you may take print from FF in 1.5 times larger. When it comes to post 800*600 pix pictures to Facebook, here really does not matter the size of sensor, and even crop 1.5 – excessive. But I am working, I need a large ang clear files for print

      1. Lol, you even may show a billboard. The question is about details and a printing resolution. Serious landscape murals or portraits are very impressive due to details. But not this commercial s…t.

    1. Posting this once again, print-size of Fuji X-sensor (~16MP) vs full-frame Canon 5D Mark III (~24 MP):

The human eye has trouble resolving detail past 200 dpi. Doing the math, a Canon 5D Mark 3 offers you only about 4.3 inches/11 centimeters more print size on the long side of your photo. Keep in mind though that viewing distance is an important factor in resolution, too. Most people will not look at big prints from close-up, hence you can print big pictures at a lower resolution.

  5. Shallow DOF. Yep, you may purchase 56/1.2 $900 worth or even heavy-weight and expensive 50-140 to have it and relatively pleasant bokeh. But having low-cost 35/2, 85/2, 50/1.8 on FF the picture will be more pleasant. And a resolution as well.

  6. I want to be able to use legacy glass at their native focal length without having to get something like a speedbooster that costs as much as an X-T10…

  7. This kind of controversy should be over by now as happened to the digital versus “analog”, but it seems to follow the same looonng path…

Both formats have pros and cons, the same way not every FF or crop format camera/sensor are equal, and at the end of the day all depends on user needs, preferences or money to spend.

This doesn’t happen just in relation to FF (35mm equivalent) versus crop (1.5 factor) but can be extended to larger or smaller formats, without disregarding that technological developments keep changing some aspects taken as true, namely when we talk about IQ and/or noise.

        1. A D300 which went back to Nikon twice with unreliable
exposure, being told there was nothing wrong with it, then some months later
receiving an anonymous email from a Nikon technician stating there was an issue
that they could not fix. The second time it went back I gave permission for one of their tech’s to use it as his own for a couple of weeks, still came back with same story ‘we have tested it in the lab and all is perfect’
I gave it to my brother who wanted a point and shoot, still uses it as such, still has exposure inconsistencies. No dealer would take in in Part Ex’.

  8. These types of titles are really insecure sounding. Fuji X can stand on its own two feet instead of making it look strong this makes it look like it’s always looking to sides trying to catch up. Fuji needs to address the IBIS and raw converter thingy or go back to bayer (which I vote for) they will have a problem with video and won’t appeal to the masses and sell like they should. The Ricoh Gr has the same sensor and the raws are better on the Gr much more beautiful give up on that xtran and sell more lenses.

    1. Fuji is sticking with x Trans for now, whether you like it or not. It might be best to just move on to whatever camera will suit your taste better.

  9. I have to admit I find it pretty ridiculous that one of the biggest Fuji sites on the web is going on about “FF Moaners”, the Fuji’s aren’t for everyone, I enjoy mine for what its good at but do miss the sheer detail and size of images from my old Nikon FF kit, it seems that some Fuji sites are too interested in bashing others than just appreciating what Fuji are doing and that is creating some bloody excellent cameras and lenses, even if (like all other cameras too) not the best camera for every job.

In the same way I wouldn’t use my XT1 for shooting sports or printing a 20m billboard I probably wouldn’t carry a Nikon D810 and 24-70 f2.8 in my bag everyday… we need to get over this “my camera is better than yours”, theres so much choice out there and very few if any truly bad cameras, just use what you enjoy.

    1. it’s evidently a provocation of an X-shooter, who took a terrific image, looks at it, and wonders if he could have taken it better with a Full Frame camera…. and his answer is apperently “no”.

We regulary (often) have people here, who don’t miss the chance to ask Fuji to go Full Frame, or who bash Fujifilm becuase of their APS-C sensor. So the question is directed to them, and he askes them what they are still missing.

to me there is just one reason to go FF: the market! If the market demands FF, Fuji should go FF… even though I think APS-C is just perfect, and I actually don’t need FF.

But if Fuji wants to go mainstream, they have to listen the market.

… or just go Medium Format… and the market will “need” MF, and FF will be suddenly crappy

  10. tell me ff moaners what do you miss top x shots at the fr facebook page

    ?evaluate pictures on facebook?
?ff moaners…. whats that? negation of individuals viewpoint? excusing fuji for not being able to put a ff camera on the market? ouch, forgot the x-mount diameter…

  11. Title of this post is a bit silly in my opinion.

I really like my Fuji X-E1 for what it is, but my Sony RX1R destroys it in terms of micro contrast, sharpness (especially corners, no matter the Fuji lens), dynamic range, resolution, etc … and it does show on the pictures without pixel-peeping or having to print huge size. A lot of things “FF moaners” could be missing.

    1. OK… I’ll leave the part “tell me FF moaners, what do you miss”, in the article, because it belongs to the most liked and commented image ever on the FR facebook photostream.

But I took it from the title, so that everyone can actually really SEE the image first, then read the comment, and finally judge about the “tell me what you miss” part.

I reckon that leaving it in the title induces people to go directly to the comments, without actually seeing the image(s)… which is actually not what I want, becuase it’s the quality of the shots, that eventually tells us about the capabilites of the cameras (and photographers)

      1. OK I understand better now. I actually see you might have changed the FR post title as on my RSS feed it does include the “FF moaner” reference, but it doesn’t anymore on the website. This was a bit confusing, leading people to believe you were asking the question as the person running this site whereas it was just a comment of the person who posted the picture. Good decision to amend it if this is what happened 🙂

And on the picture itself, it really is difficult to judge on a Facebook version which is low-res, but I am personally not found of it as it looks over-processed with unnatural colours and the parts where there was probably heavy shadow recovery (trees in the front) seem noisy and not very well defined.

Different tastes I guess, but it is far from being my favourite from the set you posted.

        1. I’ve removed the sentence just a few minutes ago. So it might well be still in your reader. In any case, whoever joins now, will hopefully first see the image, and then answer to his (and my) provocation.

  12. The ‘Fuji should go FF’, MF, whatever debate is idiocy. Fuji have repeatedly said that APS-C is the sweet spot between IQ and portability. Which is why they’re not shifting from it. Which makes perfect sense.

Why can’t the measurebaters stoking these discussions just, you know, listen to what Fuji themselves have said? Why can’t we accept the inevitable compromises of our tools and just go out and take the best damn pictures we can with them?

    1. everyone except fuji is already full frame.. could they beat sony and their fast advancment? and what mount would fuji use on ff? because they would likely have to redo all the lenses for ff and theyre not cheap (or at least introduce an element to widen the focus to project the image on the larger sensor without crop or excessive vignetting). you need a mortgage for nikons fast lenses anyway.. theres still a bit of a room in the mf category that fuji could exploit. let em make fujiya, a cheaper mamiya.

      1. Adding a teleconverter would make them FF fairly easily. They would lose a stop in the process so wouldn’t be much of a gain but at least possible with existing lineup.

  13. There is nothing wrong with offering more than one camera system within the Fuji name and of different sizes. I think it’s called segmentation. Going larger does not mean abandoning the current APS-C size system, mearly broading the range of what they can offer. Different photographers – different needs. APS-C may be the sweet spot, but some like it bigger. ?

    1. That’s true but as it is, Fujii aps-c is not yet profiting at the level they are comfortable with, so opening a new market segment puts fuji in much financial risk. They would not like to spread their resources too thin at this point.

  14. Moving from DSLR to Fuji X, I realize that miss a good few of them:
    – Much more responsive AF that I am confident I can capture every moment of my kids.
    – Load the battery once & forget it. I spend more times reload my batteries and end up missing shots now :(.
    – Mechanical 1/8000s shutter. I own the fast lenses and cannot shoot wide during the bright sunny day.
    – Modernized and true TTL + HSS flash system.

On the other hands, what I gain are:
    – Lightweight. I can spend more time playing w/ my kids while traveling.
    – Great lens system, sharp like hell
    – JPG color is super, natural, the best of the best.
    – Firmware update. More please …

  15. Does anyone recognise where that first photo (lane with the trees) was taken?

I have a feeling I took a snapshot at the very same spot during a bicycle trip through Ireland in 2003, this would have been somewhere south of Ballycastle in Northern-Ireland?

My snapshot lacks the beautiful colors, but I _did_ take it with a full-frame camera (a Contax G1 loaded with Kodak Supra that is ;-))

  16. A lot of these shots are over processed. So it’s tough to say if it’s really the camera or even the photographer. I really enjoy using my X-T1 and will continue to use it in many instances. But it’s just not as flexible as my Nikon DSLRs in low light and in the field under the harsh conditions I usually work in.

  17. “XT1 using the 50 – 140 mm, cracking lens, soo sharp !!!!!!!! Tell me FF moaners, what do you miss?”

🙂 I will tell you exactly….In a shot like this, nothing actually. It would be the same with a m4/3 setup, too. Maybe even with a good (RAW-capable) compact camera…. What I miss in Fuji aps-c cameras is not related to the nature photos but people’s shots: A shallow depth of field which makes the images “pop”. Especially the shallow depth of field with a wider angle of view. No doubt Fuji did an excellent job with their 1.4 lenses but the “aps-c” 1.4 is just FF f2,1 in terms of depth of field (actually according to my tests it is more like f2.4-2.5…).

Of course it all relates to your expectations, demands and ability to “see it” but for me that is a “small number difference that make a big impact in the result”.

Here is an example of what I mean (@ courtesy of Andrew): Fuji 23mm F1.4 compared with Sigma 35mm F1.4 on Canon 5D Mark III:
