Available for pre-order just 11 days ago, and now already in stock at Adorama! Unless it’s an error at their home page, you can already now purchase and receive the fastest lens for mirrorless cameras, the IBELUX f/0.85,  here at Adorama.

The list price for this lens is of $2,399 (it’s also the price at AmazonUS), but Adorama and BHphoto are selling for $2,079… still not a bargain. For that price you can buy the [shoplink 21554]XF 56mm[/shoplink], [shoplink 12889]XF 35mm[/shoplink] and [shoplink 13829]XF 27mm[/shoplink].

  1. SEEKING ADVICE: XE-1 vs XE-2 as a general use, walking around camera: Is there U.S.$500 worth of value between them or is the 1 just an amazing deal right now? Has firmware for the 1 gotten it close to the 2’s focus speed?

    1. I bought recently the XE-1 and it is great! Save the 500 USD or buy another nice lens with that money (e.g. 35mm/1.4). XE-2 has some improvements, but believe me they are not worth the 500 bucks difference, unless maybe you need the cam as a professional photographer.

      1. Good advice. The difference in price would put me well along the way to a great prime lens. I’m really loving the samples I’ve seen with the 56 1.2.

    2. I’ve had XE1, now I have XE2 and XT1 (along with X100s). My advise – if you are not a working pro, get yourself an XE1. Personally, I liked high ISO skin tone rendering of XE1 much better, as XE2 introduced that darn “waxy” effect in jpegs.

      1. Thanks! I’m going to rent one, I think. I know that the focus speed won’t be the fastest, but I can’t resist Fuji’s analog style handling, camera styling and IQ. I’ve rented the X100s a few times for extended periods, but just can’t commit to one focal length at that price point. At least not yet. 🙂

    3. I have both currently. No, the focus speed of the 2 is much better. And all other functions are faster. Get the 2. More upside.

      1. Very nice photos! I especially like the B&W. Interesting to hear from someone in the system favoring zooms as well. Small cameras have gotten me into fast primes, but I still return to the flexibility of zooms frequently. Even Fuji’s “kit” zoom sounds like a great lens.

    4. The IQ is similar. So why do you need outstanding AF in a WALKING AROUND camera? If you not a pro then you don’t need a split second advantage. Use saved money to buy better lenses.

      1. Kids and pets are examples of non “professional” photo situations that benefit from quick autofocus. Face detect is particularly useful. It doesn’t need to be EM1 or A6000 or DSLR speed, just serviceable in a variety of available light. 🙂

But I’m also thinking of portraits, where focus speed is far less critical.

Still, the more things that the camera can do well, the easier to justify moving into the system. 🙂 I know that I will own a Fuji. It’s just a matter of when. I’ll probably wait to see if Photokina brings XPro2, but will likely end up with an XE1 regardless.

  2. 55mm f/1.2 + focal reducer = 57.75mm f/0.85. That’s a similar focal length to what the IBELUX is (40mm X 1.5 = 60mm for APS-C), with the same effective aperture. Even with an expensive focal reducer, like a Metabones Speed Booster, you could get that setup for under $700, and probably have better IQ. Plus you can use the focal reducer with other lenses, so there’s that.

    1. I wonder if that’s all this is internally (built in speed booster). I don’t see why anyone would want this considering it’s almost exactly the same as a 50-58mm 1.2 & a speed booster, which can be bought for a fraction of the cost. If this lens was full-frame it would make some sense, but as it is it’s pure insanity.
