As a wedding photographer who spends 10-12 hours at a wedding this is a very important consideration. No more back pains for me after a wedding!”
– Hands-On With High-Res Fujinon XF 56mm F1.2 Model Shots at the.me here: “The Fujifilm X-T1 is a thoroughly recommendable camera from what I can tell after playing with it and the stellar Fujinons XF 56mm F1.2 and XF 10-24mm F4 lenses. The camera feels great, has just the right size and is fast and responsive. Its evolved SLR-style handling, the mechanical dials and controls and rugged all-weater resistance certainly make this camera a no-brainer. Add the exquisite selection of XF prime glass.”

It says: ” … taken under carefully-controlled conditions, to provide valid comparisons of camera capabilities in actual shooting situations.”
There’s no mention of what lenses they use, and in the pair of images I looked at the exposures were at least a full stop different! Take with a pinch of salt.
Did you look into the exifs? It’s all there, plus it is indicated in the sampels overview page.
However I’d like to know whether those Jpegs are OOC Jpegs or converted from raw. The X-T1 colours are boosted copared to the Pro1, not really very pleasing to me.
I downloaded 3200 ISO and compared with the D700 and found them to be very close (having equalised the size). The X-T1 definitely has the edge because of the slight extra detail.
However high ISO samples don’t actually mean much if they are taken in good light.
It’s getting better and better. I won’t be surprised if this will be the world best IQ camera.
Best EVF in the UNIVERSE, I heard.
Let’s not fool ourselves, it’s still APS-C. Maybe one of the best APS-C sensors out there, but still it won’t reach the performance of a FF or MF sensor of equal generation. Just physics!
So, let’s keep our feet on the ground and say that we like the output of our Fuji cameras, whereas somebody else will like the output of other sensors more…and we know that an A7/A7r or various FF DSLRs will have objectively better raw quality output.
Great cameras, great sensors and superb optics…that’s what the Fuji X system is.
No camera is THE best, just the best for you.
I think that a lot of people still don’t understand how the X-trans conversions contain in ALL RAW conversion tools color bleeding and ‘wrong color pixel’ error. And the resolution is for an APS/C camera close but not on par with the best FF cameras RAW output. That is precisely what this ‘world best IQ camera’ will deliver you. Again, I like Fuji but we should not exaggerate… what I see here is pure hyping. Look tomorrow on the 4/3 fan-sites and you’ll see exactly the same for the new GH4K camera. The reality is something different. But believing makes people happy, that’s fine for me.
I compared the T1 to the Leica Vario for the “Multi” image. The corners looked sharper on the T1 however I then looked at the “Red circle thing” and there was some interesting differences which makes me think that overall the Leica Vario is offering a better image.
You know me and my thoughts, but I actually expected the T1 to be better, so I find that quite interesting. whether it matters or not is another thing altogether.
In those same circle areas, the A1 is also looking better that the T1. Foveon sensor looks even better. T1 is unfortunately not just bad but also showing artifacts of some nature, I see the same thing when taking shots of low contract clouds.
So this is likely a factor of pixel sample size? Foveon 1:1, Bayer 4:1 and XTrans 36:9 (same ratio as Bayer but larger sample size).
strike contract, replace with contrast
I would love to know what software they processed these Raws from, looks great….. Proberly Iridient though, and I dont own a mac 🙁
They are OOC jpegs – it says so in the column on the left.
“These images are JPEGs straight from the camera, and were taken under carefully-controlled conditions, to provide valid comparisons of camera capabilities in actual shooting situations.”
Fuji X-T1 files already available on Dpreview’s studio comparison.
Dpreview uses Lightroom as it output for its test i ‘think’, so for me its not worth using that comparision tool for x-trans files – Looks like Imaging resource is using something else for all there tests – Hopefully adobe fixes its ACR software for the X-Trans sensor or were going to keep getting thousands of comments esp on sites like Dpreview that trash these cameras. Even on there samples gallery they didnt even change the Jpg settings,
Although I did the same thing when i tested the camera almost a week ago, i shot in jpg+raw and forgot to tweak the jpg settings and the Noise Reduction was horrible, but the raw file processed in Photo Ninja looked great 🙂
The test for the X-T1 uses 60mm whereas the X-E1/XP1 used the 35mm. So the comparison against each other would not be accurate 🙁
Given that you are correct the comparison among the Fuji bodies is incorrect. The 60 is substantially sharper then my 35.
I got that from the exif. You also can’t compare skin tones, since you are not sure what shade of plastic the model has to start with. lol.
You guys pixel peep too much instead of just shooting.
Unfortunately, it seems that for some subjects, how the sensor data is turned into pixels matters. It is interesting for some to try to understand why that is, and what can be done to circumvent it.
And anyway, have you looked out the window today …. ugh!
For stock photographers, pixel level quality is a must because the stock photo judges are great pixel peepers. That’s what they do before accepting the pictures submited. Good sharpness straight of the camera and low noise are the most important quality factors in stock photography.
+1 The scrutiny files get when you send them to Corbis, Getty, Alamy and the Micros is very demanding. All files are reviewed at 100% and need to be perfectly sharp at 100%, no CA or any other imperfections. If you send images that haven’t been quality checked and there are duff files, not only do they get binned but it affects your acceptance rate…. not good. You learn to inspect everything at 100%. This should apply to all assignment work as well. No room for sloppy work.
Now if I was taking images for pleasure and it wasn’t my job/income, then hell, I wouldn’t spend anywhere near as much time pixel peeping. That said, it’s ingrained now. I bin everything that fails the 100% check.
This is why I love Fuji though. There lenses are so good they have lifted my keeper rate massively compared to when I had the Sony Nex7. I now can take images and not think to long and hard about IQ, as long as I do my bit that is. They make my working life fun, their gear is a joy to use!!
Then don’t use the comparison tool to view the X-T1 against the Sony A7 or A7r. The Sonys eat the X-T1’s lunch, mow its lawn, etc. Especially if you are into pixel peeping for stock work.
The Zeiss 55mm they are using on the Sony test shots is just blistering sharp. I own a copy and not only does it slice eyeballs, but it also has very appealing bokeh. Wonderful lens.
Fuji lenses are as a whole, excellent for the platform and definitely better than Sony’s efforts for APS-C e-mount but if these new Zeiss FE lenses are any indication of where Sony is heading, watch out. These lenses and sensors are breaking new ground.
Even more impressive when you look at the A7 price point compared to the X-T1.
I played with the X-T1 mounted with the new 10-24mm today at the Fuji showroom and it is indeed a wonderful camera.
The viewfinder is absolutely stunning and all the controls fall just at the right place, intuitively.
Really, if I hadn’t bought my X100s only a few weeks ago, I would jump on that X-T1 immediately. Definitely the best camera I ever hold in my hands.
The 10-24 f4 OIS is going to be a great lens. The reviewers will confirm that. The only minus is for the X-T1 shooters: it’s not weather sealed. But I’m sure Fuji will not let them down and develop a weather sealed ultra-wide zoom (probably some 9-16 f2.8 with or without OIS) to form the weather sealed Holy Trinity of Fuji along the 16-55 f2.8 OIS and the 50-140 f2.8 OIS.
X-E2/E1 shooters are better served by the 10-24, 18-55 and 55-200.
well, there is something strange about that… in the roadmap provided by fuji, all the weather sealed lenses have a green line, but the 10-24 also has it…
Also, the built of the 10-24 is close to the weather sealed models of Canon for example, with no external moving parts.
I wonder if they had planned to make it weather-sealed but they might have changed their minds in terms of marketing later if the protection was not as effective as expected.
Anyway, the combo X-T1 and 10-24 was just incredible: I am going back to the showroom today to play again 🙂
(luckily, I work very close by)
It’s great to play with the cameras inside a shop. At the begining of April I shall jump in the Fuji boat 🙂 I’ve played with the X-E2 and I think is The Camera for me. Droping my Nikon D60/D90 duo for that change. Weather sealing is not for me (I will use a great rain camera cover which is much better than all the weather sealing in the world) and I like more the rangefinder design regarding mirrorless cameras (without the mirror the big center hump is redundant even considering the larger viewfinder inside). The 10-24 is on my shoping list but for next year. I shall get the X-E2 with the 18-55 and 55-200 which is a great duo. I just wish that Fuji will release a real 1:1 macro.
Canons WS lenses are just some of the L glass the old L’s are not sealed so same with Nikon. not all lenses are WS. Same with FUJI’s.
Life is more than just playing. The first few hours I found my X-Pro1 also a nice camera, wave one adopter, wow, I thought Fuji had done the right thing! Unfortunately after 18 months of intensive FW-management I’m scepticall. Yes, there are some good points but none of them remain in this overhyped X-T1 fake DSLR-concept. No hybrid EVF/OVF viewfinder, no small form factor, but the same sensor with its disturbing RAW artifacts and poor support accross most tools. Likely also the same battery drain story.or even worse with that silly flash unit. Oh yes, you now have the dynosaur option to add another battery. There goes the ‘lightweight traveller’. If Fujifilm would have released the new X-Pro2 with higher resolution and a market standard CFA, decent AF, I would maybe, very maybe; have given it a chance. Still, I’d feel bad for having to change a virtually new camera. I’m not sure that around Fotokina I’ll still be using Fuji, I’m really not interested in a debugged version of the X-Pro1 with once again the same sensor story, Fuji has to do a lot better before I’ll be taking my wallet.
So basically you’re angry about a 1st generation product and you’re going to continue to nurse that anger forever while making it blatantly obvious you haven’t used the current products. That’s cool, but if you’re not going to add anything constructive to the conversation, why bother posting?
Half of the problems still exist, not?
It depends on what you consider a problem. You’re listing crack-heading items like a hybrid viewfinder, “fake” DSLR concept? I don’t even know wth that means.
Size? Yeah, the X-T1 w/ 18-55mm is half the weight of my 6D + 24-70L:
http://camerasize.com/compact/#380.286,520.359,ha,t
You’re insulting the AF and you haven’t used it. This has built-in PDAF as well as CDAF, a completely different subsystem than your 1st gen system.
As for “disturbing” sensor artifacts- what are they? Satanic symbols? I’ve not heard mention of this from anywhere else. Poor support on tools? So you’re saying you were too dumb to realize a non-bayer sensor would have poor support initially. Last I checked as of ACR 8.3 there are no problems in the Adobe line, so I don’t know what tools you’re using.
Basically your tantrum is full of blatant holes and inaccuracies, so why would anyone bother taking you seriously?
I’m insulting nothing. But half of the poor performance the Fuji AF has is due to the lens concept. Too much of independent working electronics in it, no ultrasonic drive. Yes, the new ones will be faster. The first 3 ones not. The 60mm is even a shame. Again, if somebody is not yelling something like ‘waw, fantastic, the best AF/camera I’ve seen ever, I’m ditching my DSLR right now…’ on this Fuji-fansite but give some reflection on the REAL EXPERIENCE people always get a bit angry. Don’t want to hear the truth, maybe? Or do you just buy things for what they look like, not for what they really are?
It’s too bad you don’t like your 1st gen quirky camera. Maybe if you were smarter you would have used it a bunch in the 1st 30 days and returned it.
I’ve never said I don’t like my Fuji. But it should have been 50% better 18 months ago. 18 months long I’ve been thinking ‘expanding my Fujifilm investment with new equipment’ or just sell it. I’ve got friends that really did do that very quickly. In the meanwhile, I’ve had some other discussions with Fujifilm you don’t want to know, for example a lens with metal particles in it, displays that scratch while you’re looking at it, camera loosing its black paint,… A lot of these 1st generation problems could as well be 2nd of 3th generation and they don’t hear very well when it comes to applying the warranty – I’ve lost my confidence a bit. All Nikon cameras I’ve owned over the years was intensively used, never had ANY issue and they all looked like new when I sold them… bringing back good money for the next investment. Who would ever want a 1.5 year old X-Pro1? Knowing what everybody knows? What you’re telling about the RAW support is just not true. Nobody has done as much conversion trials with all kinds of software, and still there are serious artifacts. Aperture and Iridient less than ACR, but still, they’re present in every picture.
Oh yes, it’s still being sold not? The X-Pro1 IS still a current product, not?
Ford still sells the Ranger pickup even though it’s severely outdated. So what?
You’re pointless.
No, I’m not. Do you replace your camera after 18 months? This weird sound AF-thing that was launched in the same hyping as X-T1? I can proof that the X-trans has still the same problems and they are more serious than most people think. You’re selling Fujis, that’s clear. Like many of the replies here, very offensive versus people that just tell the truth.
Oh yes, I also owned a Ford once. Reason why there will never be one again. Also that car, you could have called ‘first generation’. Nevertheless… wasn’t it this company that made the Model T 😉
surely the image quality is the same as the x-e2 as it has the same sensor?
I just downloaded the raf files on the DPReview studio tool from both xe2 and xt1, opened in Photoninja, and they are virtually identical from iso 200 to 800 (didn’t try the higher iso’s). They both used the same 35mm lens so it’s a valid comparison. Same sensor & raw render, different body & features.
So is it just me,,, or in order to get a pre-production version of a XT1 to test and post pictures on the internet do you have to be an absolutely terrible photographer?
Either this camera sucks, which I doubt…or Fuji really needs to do a better job releasing the camera to the people who should be posting about it… between that wedding and model shoot I haven’t been impressed.
I was thinking the same thing. The majority of the xt1 image samples I have seen were soft. I’ll just wait until I can rent one before I make a full commitment.
Try the Fuji site, http://fujifilm-x.com/photographers/en/, then find a country you like such as Brasil. Then select X-T1 and view other fotos. You then find a style similar to your own. And view the images and camera performance that way. That’s what I do.
keyword: pre-production. that might (just maybe) be a factor in the RAW quality.
Yeah, those two were especially bad. LaRouque’s photos were predictably good but I think much of that is his style. At least the photos were sharp.
Love the Fuji black and white JPEGs. The wedding shots on Photoblogger, for example, show how nice they can be.
I don’t know if somebody noticed it, BUT in the Ralf’s foto bude video the FOCUS PEAKING OPTION is shown in THREE COLORS: WHITE (the known standard) RED, and BLUE.
That means FUJI has listened again to us users and implemented this into an X-Camera for the first time ever.
Now, that being said, I expect this to be a SW related thing only.
And that means, we should expect that feature on other X-cameras in future firmware updates.
Patrick, I guess FUJI delays this feature right know to keep the focus on the X-T1 as their current “power house” with the newest bells and whistles, BUT is there any sign of when we user could expect to get this feature for other cameras?
Excellent !!
This company is truly amazing…
I really don’t like how this sensor produces the busy areas like hair.
It appears fuji applies noise reduction to the raw files. This causes areas to get mistaken to be noise at times. So areas like hair can end up a bit smudged.
I didn’t see any difference between jpg produced by xpro1 vs xt1 …at 3200 iso
its the same sensor so you wont see any difference.
It’s NOT the same sensor. The X-T1 uses the second generation X-Trans II that the X-E2 is using. The X-Pro1 still has the first generation sensor.
General comment – I think I’m ready to move on from traditional DSLR to mirrorless. The sample output comparisons are good enough compared to my 6D. The lenses also appear to be priced well enough that I can sell my L glass and still have money left over. I was really waiting on the AF, EVF, and tilt screen as the tipping points.
hold out for some real world reviews, once things settle. at the moment its the “best camera in the world” I would wait and see what people say in a couple of months. Where i expect it will be seen as very good, a good update but not the camera everyone is waiting for.
I own both (xpro1 and 5dmk3). but I don’t understand the reason to switch from a good camera like 6d to T1.
some shots…with 6d
http://35photo.ru/items/Canon+EOS+6D_i4942/examples/
i think ..t1 is a good camera, but 6d too.
Because…they want to…they prefer a smaller camera…they suffer from GAS…they like the X-T1 design and controls…you can keep counting the reasons.
At the end of the day, for most people almost any present days camera can produce results that fulfill their “needs”… if you exclude the phycological ones.
I need to be able to hand it off to other people on a regular basis and avoid this common exchange:
“How’s this thing work?”
“You look through the viewfinder.”
“What’s a viewfinder?”
/Ismackmyheadintowall
I consider the 6D and any clunky body with a mirror box an antique. They take great pictures, don’t get me wrong. But I’ve been anxiously awaiting a time when I don’t have to lug all this heavy crap around just to get great pictures.
When I got the 6D there were no mirrorless systems with AF and ISO performance that I found acceptable. Now both the Sony A7 and X-T1 are viable options. I still may go the Sony route, but it really comes down to AF performance and lens selection. I suspect the X-T1 will be better in both those categories, and it’s far cheaper for good glass. Both have the tilt screen which I’ve been missing as well.
Yes no one has ever used a viewfinder lol , look through little window on back and press button on top is pretty tricky.Do you work for a retard charity?
This is the smartphone generation- they don’t use viewfinders. We have full frame $2800 cameras on the market that have no viewfinder. Half the Amazon top P&S cams have no viewfinder.
The fact you can’t comprehend that aspect of human engineering speaks to your intelligence level. Perhaps I’ll see you at the next “retard” charity?
That was a really stupid comment on multiple levels.
Wow.
That was to hal.
There are many young people who have never used a camera with a viewfinder.
Also, your “retard charity” comment marks you as a remarkably ignorant person.
That’s a funny comment,
“The sample output comparisons are good enough compared to my 6D”, on which samples did you base the statement?
I used the imaging resource comparometer. I also looked at several other sites. I say “good enough” as in the X-T1 is a crop sensor, and so it is at a significant disadvantage against my 6D at high ISO. Pulling up the iso6400 shots, the quality of the X-T1 is impressive, don’t get me wrong. However, compared the the 6D, it loses. BUT it is “good enough” that it won’t matter for my use case.
I have 6D and bunch of lenses too. I like Fuji, and many terms, but I won’t exchange 6D for X-T1 – it would be great second/backup/travel camera, but for real low-light and “unpredictable shots” I’ll take my 6D anyday over Fuji. Although Fuji is great for travel. Keep them both!
I did just that. I just got rid of my 6D and reserved the X-T1. My reasons were smaller size, smaller lenses, almost, if not just as good IQ, flip out screen, EVF, because I’m more comfortable with that over a traditional VF and I just trust in fuji with updates.
I will admit, I’ll miss the IQ that the 6D has. I loved the color and depth of my pics. If I can get close to that, I’ll be happy.
Good luck to you, but I won’t get rid of my 6D until I’ll hold X-T1 in my hands.
In terms of IQ – it’s a tough question. Yes, you’ll have more DOF, less “pop”, and more noise and color-washing out at high-ISO, and less details. There’s no magic here, but at the other hand Fuji has best APS-C sensor right now, outstanding JPEG engine, and very good lenses. More over, I think Fuji has more precise AF (not fast) due to CDAF, and 6D has PDAF, and with some lenses it could give different back/front focus issues, Fuji is free from that.
And you obtain portability – last Friday we went walking around with my wife, and I took X-E1 with 35/1.4, 60/2.4, and 55-200, and whole package fits in small messenger bag, and weights almost nothing.
Suddenly we went to street jazz festival, and I made some nice pictures.

They are SOOC jpegs, resized and watermarked in Capture One.
I think that IQ on Fuji is very-very good, love the color. Just it still isn’t there in terms of speed (AF and overall).
wexUK just charged my creditcard for the x-t1 preorder and they told me they wouldnt until it the unit has arrived and ready to be shipped. Maybe it is on the way already? I damn hope so 🙂
Well, I pre-ordered the X-T1 but am still not sure whether something like the Canon 6d or Nikon D610 would be better suited for my landscape and travel work. I know the file quality of the Canon 6d and didn´t like that the raw files get noisy very quick when I process them, even at base iso and I didn´t like the ovf and the sluggish live view.
But other than that – the camera was nice. I don´t need too thin dof and like mirrorless cameras but I hope that the colors and raw file quality of the X-T1 will be significantly better than my mft gear. That means less noise, and same sharpness and colors (I like Oly colors).
That’s news to me. I’ve never heard of problems with noise on a 6D, especially at base ISO. I’ve actually found it a bit better than the 5Dmk3. Did you mean dynamic range rather than noise? That I could understand. I’d buy a D610 for landscape due to DR. Well, unless you want to run ML on Canon.
I tested both the 6D and D600, and ultimately decided on the 6D because the AF in low light works much better, and it seems to deal with shadow detail much better at high ISO (my real-world opinion). I don’t think I’d buy the X-T1 for dedicated landscape work, unless weight was a major factor.
Yes, I mean that the Raw files get noisy when I brighten up the shadows in Lightroom. It might be that there are workarounds like ETTR etc but I think that the Nikon files are much more flexible in that regard.
The thing is that between the Canon 6d and Nikon D610 there is no clear winner for me. I like Canon colors and wb and low noise (if you don´t push the shadows 😉 and the live view is better too, but I like the flexibility of the nikon files more.
I struggle to decide between mft for travel and FF for serious work or the Fuji system as stand alone system. I don´t photograph sports and I don´t need the dof of FF cameras. Other possibility would be the Sony A7 (24mp are enough) but the lenses are slow and expensiv, files are relatively noisy for FF and the whole thing doesn´t really appeal to me.
Well yeah all files do that, You do not under expose them to start with helps most.
Well… I have an X100 and an X-E1, love them both and have been waiting for YEARS for a camera like the X-T1, and, now that it’s been released, along with a fast portrait lens… I’ve just ordered a 6D and a bagful of L primes! As much as I love the Fuji way, I’m missing too many shots due to the unresponsive autofocus. It’s fine for posed shots, landscapes, travel work and other circumstances where you can be unhurried and deliberate, but for anything involving unpredictable movement (animated children playing etc), it’s pretty much useless and I’ve lost my patience. The 5D would probably have been a better bet for me, but I’d have had to compromise on the lenses to afford it. I’m so looking forward to getting my hands on a full frame body and a 50mm f1.2! It’s heavy on the shoulder for sure, but I’m a big lad.
The af of the Canon 50mm 1.2 is sloooow and dof is thinnn^^ Hope it works out for you, mate.
🙂 Yes – I’m expecting a challenge! Rest assured that I won’t be shooting my ‘animated children’ shots wide open. I couldn’t help myself, and went bust on the 135L and the 200L too, which will be much more useful for capturing the kids messing around.
Makes sense, 100%. It’s not only the AF, shutter lag, RAW-problems and most of all the unpredictability factor, I can just not explain. Well, in X-T1 I’m sure it will all have improved quite a bit. But I also read more and more posts about the X-E2, not fully being what it was promised to be. Even with the new AF, will the typical Fuji phenomenon to point at something, and get finally back focus be gone? Now there is this X-T1. It lets me think the “DSLR dead, long live the DSLR”. Be honest what is the difference? The form factor? The fact you’re no longer looking on a bright, clear mirror but on pixels? This is the wrong horse to bet on, at least for me. I don’t know there will be an X-Pro2 for me, the concept I really liked so much, still 8 months to go is a long time, and the quirks are sometimes bit too annoying for my nerves – maybe was going MLIC a complete mistake. With Nikon DSLRs I could do so many years without replacing them, with MLICs it looks like one full year is a complete century, and companies like Fuji just think you’re replacing gear like a bag in the vacuum cleaner. The more I think about it, the more I find my D800 a wise, secured investment. Having 55 years of perfect fitting F-glass within my reach and for me, it doesn’t always has to perfect from center to corner. It looks like all photographers have become engineers. And all MLIC vendors doing expensive prototyping on their clients. How long can that last.
I feel the switch will come for me when Fuji sort out the flash situation. Give me something like a small SB-900 with focus assist and I AM IN. I need that for weddings though.
Does anyone else feel that if they sort out the whole flash thing they would jump ship?
i did a hike up to the top of ‘lower table rock’ (in oregon) with my xe-2 and a couple of primes and my sticks. what a godsend. what a pain it would have been to hike up with my alpha/zeiss gear. did a hike at ‘multnomah falls trail’ last year. with my xe-1, a couple of primes, one zoom, and my sticks.
(can’t find the post i was trying to respond to. but, yeah…)
I need an ILC to pair with my X100s. As curious as I am about the X-T1, I’m really considering just going with the tried and true Canon 6D. Upon it’s release, if it becomes a struggle to purchase an X-T1 due to short supply, I may have to go ahead and go with the 6D so I can take pictures.
Despite the fact I’m looking at the X-T1, I still consider the 6D is an excellent choice, especially with the kit L glass. The glass is what really made the decision for me- Nikon kit glass doesn’t compare. The Canon 40mm F2.8 pancake is freaky good for the price too. Just keep in mind you’re going to be living on the single center AF point 90% of the time (if that matters to you). Grab the 70-200 F4 IS and you’ve got your bases covered. Remember the DOF on the 6D at F4 is going to equal the crop-sensor X-T1 at F2.8, which IMO is an important advantage. I’d take a long look at the Sony A7 kit as well. The fact the new 55mm Sony FE lens is almost as good at the new Zeiss Otus can’t be ignored IMO. It just depends what you’re shooting whether the FE mount glass is available to do what you need.
6D is not very large and FF is pretty amazing. I tested one in a store, however, and the thing about the center focus point is true, and I actually rarely focus in the center.

Buy the 6D and the EF 2.0 35mm IS and you will get unbelievable IQ. If your concern still is weight and size, buy a Voigtlander Ultron 40mm (manual focus lens) and IQ will be the same as the 35 IS if not better (from my practical experience, I own both). And if you put this combo on a BlackRapid you will soon forget your concerns about weight. If I travel I carry a bag of 23x18x13cm with the 6D a 40mm Ultron and a 28mm color skopar and a strap, done. The X-T1 is tempting from a GAS-perspective and certainly is a good camera, but surely not up to the 6D since the 6D does not make an IQ compromise but is the smallest combo with that kind of IQ. And btw 1200 shots with one battery, good for a 2 week holiday, no charger no leads in my bag. Furthermore you can get every lens for every photographic need there is with a 6D. Cheers!
Focusing any manual focus lens is going to be infinitely more enjoyable and accurate on the X-T1 with that gorgeous EVF and focusing aids.
If you want small FF that can truly take any lens, not just large DSLR lenses, then the A7/r cameras are a better choice than the 6D. Again, great focusing with the EVF and smaller lenses. The new 55mm Zeiss is the highest rated autofocus lens DXO has tested.
6D is clearly not the smallest combo for FF quality.
While in general you’re right, the A7/A7R is smaller, thanks to the 40mm STM pancake, the 6D isn’t far off. For example:

The 6D’s AF will easily outperform the A7/A7R for action shooting. From what I’ve seen and read, there isn’t an appreciable difference between the FE 35mm and 40mm STM. Now if you’re talking the 55mm, then that’s a different story…

Ok, smallest FF combo with good handling / functionality and native lenses…. (6D). I could not make friends with the A7 and its EVF although I should take more time for testing.
6D is indeed a great camera, I even travelled with it, and could say, if you carry only 24-105/4 with 6D – there is not much weight and size problem, but…if you need on camera flash (430 II EX), tele (for ex. 70-200), couple of primes (50mm and 85) – then lagging all this gear around becomes pretty abusing.
Same Fuji kit – X-E1, 18-55, 35,60, and even 55-200 fits in small messenger bag and covers almost all focal lengths and situations you need.
I must say, that when I was travelling last summer across Ukraine/Russia, including some mountains, there was only 5% of shots, where 6D would be really better than Fuji (extreme low-light, some action).
I would not sell my 6D, but I’ve ordered X-T1 to be it’s lighter, travel companion (and I’ll keep X-E1 also).
Love Fuji colors, handling and lenses. Here is small set of pics, I shot last Friday at jazz festival

What I did not yet see (except from “fuji guys” only) is how good is AF and AF tracking with X-T1.

Extreme sports!! Neither look like the *most* demanding test of the AF tracking they could have done…
