Panasonic GX7 firmware updated (and great price at Uniquephoto).

You can get the Panasonic GX7 for $150 less than other US store prices at Uniquephoto (Click here and add the camera to cart). And the next good news for GX7 owners is that firmware v1.2 update is now available. Improvements are:

1. Improved compatibility of MF operation with H-FS12032 lens.
2. [Flash Adjust.] (Adjustment of flash output) now can be assigned to the Fn button.

The download is available at http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/index.html

    1. …but you still found time to write your feelings down here. The GX7 is living rent free in your head isn’t it? 🙂

  1. If the GX7 needs a firmware update to handle MF on the focus ring-less new lens, will they bother to update their older bodies for it too? if not the lens may be arkward to useless on them.

  2. Not having a focus ring is precisely why I bought the power zoom pancake over the 12-32. Sony got the right idea with the focus ring and zoom toggle on their pancake zoom.

As for the GX7 firmware, I really like to see an update to include IBIS for video.

    1. Guys, you do live in dreamland!
You can’t expect such a complex functionality delivered as a hotfix. Just think to the cost and complexity of testing aspects. Oh well, I guess you wouldn’t mind if it would brick your camera, wouldn’t you?

    2. Totally agree. No IBIS for video update is definitely a fail. Panasonic halve their sales by not providing IBIS for video and Olympus halve their sales by not providing the “other” half of the world with 25p.
      Strange!

      1. The fail is people who don’t understand technology.

Show me one Olympus with 2-way IBIS that offers IBIS in video… Sill waiting….

This isn’t a firmware issue, it’s a technology limitation. If you want stabilization in video, buy an Oly with 5-way IBIS, or buy OIS lenses. You ain’t gonna see video IBIS on the GX7, ever.

        1. Not being able to point out an example doesn’t prove something doesn’t exist or is impossible. That is really basic logic 101.

Please explain to us, what is ‘2 axis’ sensor shift based IS lacking that frustrates its use for video?

  3. Oh snap. I forgotten to submit to Panny the report that GX7 doesn’t properly support the teleconverters. I have tried to use Oly MMF-1 + Oly EC14 + Oly 50mm, and the f-number display is not correct: with the EC14 the brightest aperture of 50mm should be f/2.8 not f/2.0. It wasn’t critical – was just testing what/how works – but still worth to report to have it fixed.

    1. $849 is the lowest proce, but still too high for me. I don’t know if it’s because I’m too poor or because this camera is still too expensive, but I can’t decide myself to buy it.
I think I have to be patient, and wait 3 or 4 months more. Looking at the second hand market for Fuji X-E1, I see some less than $400!

      1. You’ll probably have to wait for the next GX body in two years if you want to buy the GX7 for that kind of price (about 400$).
X-E1 successor is already out, which make the old model look like quite a bargain.
In 3-4 months? We’ll get to see what Oly brings us in its new Om-D model and perhaps Panasonic will lower its GX7 price a bit.

  4. I knew a Greta Price. Wonderful lady. I wish Oly and Panny would join forces. Oly 5-axis IBIS and lenses with Panny menus, video technology, and Leica lenses.

    1. You already can share lenses between Oly and Panasonic. Only issues are OIS vs IBIS and CA correction that you get on Lumix cameras for Lumix lenses, but not on the Olympus bodies. CA in Oly lenses are only corrected on the E-M1. I hope they will start sharing CA correction with each other, as Oly adds it to their next cameras. Why not?

      1. CA correction on the E-M1 seems to mostly deal with lateral CA, it doesn’t seem to do much if anything about ‘purple fringing’. That said, it also seems to do this for the Lumix 12-35 and 7-14 and probably others.

      1. Sometimes Greta’s last name is spelled incorrectly here, as “prize.” Don’t be misled, it’s the same Greta.
