GM1 rumor correction: Announcement likely on October 17

–

Sorry dear readers if I am using this space to make a direct question to my sources. Two trusted sources just gave me two different dates for the GM1 announcement. It may be that one of the two made a typo. My question to all sources is: Will the GM1 be announced on Thursday this week or on Thursday next week? And I need the time in GMT (Greenwich) 🙂

Thanks for your help!

UPDATE: I already got a first answer and it looks like the GM1 will be announced on October 17!

    1. I would like to have some to share! I am working on it. Promise to give my best! And soon olympus rumors to come too 😉

  1. Could someone please explain how the GM1 which has a 50% (?) bigger sensor than the Sony RX100 (1 inch) manages to have similar size. Is that due to the fact that the 12-32 small zoom of the GM1 is smaller than the 28-100 of the RX100 which is 1.8 at the wide end (assuming the 12 – 32 has smaller aperture). I myself use the RX100 mostly at the wide angle to use it fastness (1.8). Would be very interested in the flexibility of the GM1 with the possibility of using different lenses. Also, I read that the GM1 sensor is perhaps same as for the GH2, is that an outdated sensor vs the RX100? Thanks for your info.

    1. The lens has no impact on the size of an interchangeable lens camera, but the required distance from the lens and the sensor will. The physical size of the sensor obviously has impact, but even m43 is small enough to put into a small space with some neat electronics. The number of physical controls has a baring as well as these need to be wired up. So I guess the camera will be primary touch screen driven, and they may be doing something ingenious with the mount.

  2. Sure is going to be busy next week! Just in time for PhotoPlus, anyone would think there is a market for mirrorless cameras in the US 😉
