  1. I received my copy two weeks ago. Still more testing needed. So far, build quality is superb, though the aperture ring is too loose for my taste. Would have preferred it more like on the 50-140mm. Bokeh balls from 1.2 to 1.8 are nice and round, after that you see that it only has 7 aperture blades. Time for Fuji to step up to 8 or 9 blade designs, this is disappointing for such a nice lens design otherwise. Bokeh in general is superb, can’t compare to regular 56mm though since I don’t own that one. Sharpness is good as from f1.6, before that ever so slightly soft, but acceptable. So far f1.6 seems like the sweet spot for me. More testing will follow on Monday.

    1. Also, slight onion effect is noticeable in the bokeh balls, as is common in these kind of fast primes. Would have liked to see that addressed though. My hopes for the 90mm coming next year? 9 blade aperture, no onion effect, stiffer aperture ring. APD version optional, have to see more testing on it’s real value first. OIS optional, though prefer the best possible lens design over that. Definitely needs more aperture blades.

      1. Please Fuji, please give at least the 90mm more aperture blades! It is so much more useful than a expensive APD option, and doesn’t have any practical downside!

I really can’t understand why the 56mm of all lenses that need it most doesn’t have a couple more in the first place. It’s not cool anymore to /only/ shoot wide-open, sometimes we just need the extra DoF (read: both eyes in focus) without losing bokeh quality.
