“Some rumors are entirely true. Others contain grains of truth; still others contain none at all. Plausible or implausible, truthful or false, rumors circulate because people are trying to get to the bottom of a matter.” KSENIJA BILBIJA (thx Eowyn ;-))
And now, let’s try satisfy our need to understand!
If rumors posted earlier today here are correct, next week we could have multiple announcements: the X100T, the 56mm f/1.2 APD and the 50-140 f/2.8 WR. But will Fujifilm have more to present at photokina? Now, here are 4 more rumors I’ve received from anonymous and new sources.
1) New flashes for Fuji X are on the way, coming “later this year“, probably presented at photokina (anonymous source)
2) Silver X-T1 (new source)
3) different body colours/textures for X-E2 (new source)
And for the fourth rumor, I need a quick introduction… and you SHOULD take it with the HOLY GRAIN OF SALT. You might remember that, back in June, I’ve spread rumors about a X-T1 upgrade (or limited edition). This rumor was wrong. Thanks to one of my sources, I was able to understand the dynamics of the leak, but I can’t share it here, of course.
But maybe (and I repeat, MAYBE), also that rumor contained a grain of truth. In fact, a new source shared the following information:
4) “There will be firmware improvements to the X-T1, but there will be a hardware improvement as well. A limited edition X-T1 will be available with it pre-installed but existing models could be upgraded with the money worth of new parts.” (new source)
That’s it, and remember, did you take the grain of salt?
Stay tuned on FR also via facebook, google+, RSS-feed and twitter
cheers

Well, finally they don’t seem to have anything meaningful. Different colours, wow! Pink, light blue, crocodile skin, a limited edition etc etc
All things that hardly can hide the lack of true innovation. Even the x100T seems to be little more than the old model, very slightly overhauled.
Photokina is maybe the most important show this year, now where is the new sensor? Where is the organic layer technology announced 6-7 years ago? A 90mm f2 lens?
The good thing just is: no need to spend any money…
O FF sensor
The 90mm f2 lens was never slated for this quarter check the road map…
They might show a non-functioning mockup that’d be great, I’d love to have an idea of the size and ergonomic features.
You talk like Photokina has already been and gone! While fr is usually quite comprehensive, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get to see a few glimpses of the future that have not been mentioned; especially if the XP2 is slated for next year. Perhaps the organic sensor will finally make an appearance – or perhaps not. Only time will tell, and the time is not yet here!
If I still had a Nikon FX such as a D800e/D810 ….photokina would be already awesome…the best (FF) lens of the world/ ever been built / alltime will be released/launched the Zeiss Otus 85 1.4….six purple elements …an prospective, epic lens….its like the lamborghini aventador’s engine…
Excited on the new flashes hopefully they are coming right before christmas and being well built/powerful!
As I said could be the first step of a complete new business for camera manufacturers (basic fw to tackle unnoticed bugs, erros while developing) and additonial income for them via our payments for new features (add ons like games) with FW updates….so the cameras could be a little bit longer being used not being outdated until certian limits much better processors, engines are reached/released…so longer life cycle of cams if wanted….
short term cycle of products/cams for users with money always wanna have the latest, greatest cam and features and others not wanting or finding features not neccessary/usable for upgrades could pay and get at least some new improvements features which is to a certain degree technical possible and can comply with the old sensors, processors, engines in the older cams….
could also be a big step forward that the cam manufacturers are not solely addicted and focused on new /total sales of cams and lens….due to the fact that this new field could be interesitng as a second field of income….
Does the curent XT1 support High Speed Flash, if not I would not be surprised if the hardware upgrade supported it.
I am not a silver-top lover but I think the X-T1 is one of the few camera’s at this moment which will looks better in silver.
There were supposed to offer an upgraded buttons for X-T1 (for a fee) to early adaptors. That never seem to materialize. Could this upgrade be just related to the buttons (e.g. ISO lock toggle). If you’re not changing the the sensor, there’s not a whole lot to improve that can’t be done in firmware.
1. ISO toggle locking. Maybe let you directly choose the two extended ISO modes instead of selecting just one or the other.
2. Directional button feedback, already addresses in latest builds
3. Higher flash sync speed (add new X position on shutter dial).
Anything else. Remember, I’m talking about physical changes. The other like to have, like better movie mode, improve focus selection, movie button customization, etc… Can all be done in firmware.
At this point I would wait for an X-T2 rather than a limited edition X-T1.
Shouldn’t ruin the beautiful X-T1 with a silver top, not for me at least! Can’t think of any recent camera that looks better with silver details.
Well they’ve already announced the X30, and the X100T is due to be announced soon, so they must be saving something big for Photokina itself!
I think it makes sense to announce stuff just before the photokina, so you can display them from day 1.
Not necessarily, the x100T is probably the biggest thing they’ll have. They may show a early mockup of X-Pro2, but I don’ t really think they will… Maybe an announcment of the x-E3 with new sensor.
Both the x30 and the x100t are as unexciting as it gets. More for new users rather than upgrades for existing cameras/ users
yay my mockup 🙂 I’m always glad to do photoshop work for these sites!
Looks good, but you forgot the bottom. 😉
Good point sir! I’ll adjust it and resend 🙂
Can you join a photoshop XT-1 rear viewed with the 4 D PAD buttons sticking out more like the XE-2 as well please. Thanks
Patrick
Your rumor 4) xt-1 with possible hardware upgrade is not unheard of – Nikon did that years ago for the D1x with a buffer memory upgrade. That was a pretty decent way of make a serious improvement to the body and not detrimental to any existing users. I personnaly love the idea.
Wasn’t there on the Fuji site about the new cameras and lenses to be presented at Photokina a couple of weeks ago? Is this it?
ooooohhhH!!!! Software and hardware updates I want!
Wow!, different body colours/textures for X-E2. Than Fuji is really reading users “X-E2 wish list upgrades” over the worlds webs that spoted on colour need… but Fuji missed that they were regarded to colour issues (pink, green, magneta cast) of the image, not of the bodies. Congrats Fuji for attentive listening to users pleases!
I’m hoping that the X100T is actually a Tele version of the X100S whilst we’re dreaming….
I myself do not like the silver version of new cameras. The feel of chrome finish in vintage camera is much better than the paint looking of the like Nikon Df. Do not know if the x-t1 silver version loooks any better, but the mock-up top part looks terrible.
Patrick, if I take in any more salt from your site, holy or otherwise, I’m going to be cured. Not of GAS, but turned into bacon, ham, or even bacalhau. Hmmm, maybe all the salt will cure my GAS as well. Regardless, many thanks for all your radar work.
LOL
Anything about microphone and/or headphone port?
all this innovation is making me dizzy.
A successor for the x-Pro1 would be great, a new flagship for the x-series. There are enough things to improve for this camera: 24MP instead of the 16MP, higher Flash sync, Hybrid viewfinder with OLED color viewfinder at least as good as the X-T1, WiFi and geotagging, Tilt LCD monitor, better and faster AF… Enough to keep up with today standards… Integrate all this and nobody will complain that it is not Full Frame… 🙂
What a disappointment, Fuji’s progress is just not fast enough versus competition. I can’t imagine that anything in this rumors list is really tempting for the massive number of potential new buyers out there – most of the camera stuff is lagging behind what is already available on the market. Unless the few ones maybe that get excited by a coloured X-E2 with a snake leather trim. It looks as though the Fuji R&D is immobilized by too much cosmetic niche filling and inside range diversification instead of focussing on the real technological progress of all this gear: new, better cutting edge sensors with far better dynamics & iso-behavior, there lies the future, in nothing else.
I think you are putting way too much thought into these rumors… How is the X-T1 or any of the glass lagging behind in the market? Canon, Nikon, Pentax, m43, non of them have anything that compete very well against the X-t1 (Edit.. let me specify in the mirrorless market), and the only thing sony’s a7 has over the X-t1 is a larger sensor… Sensors are improving steadily, however Fuji seems to be the only one who spends much time with control and ergonomics.
Strange views. I’ve been doing 40 years op photography, half of that was with Nikon, I’m using 3 years Fuji now. And also worked with Sony, Canon,… Control and ergonomics? Fuji must be about the worst player on the ‘serious’ market. A lot that should be configurable isn’t and the controls are spread over the camera, in the Q-menu, the Fn menu and the menu. There is still a lot of that quirky and annoying, standing in the way of taking the picture when you don’t want it. Glass? Fuji is now being explored by quite a few DSLR users that never used anything more than a (kit) zoom. Wow, these Fuji’s are good, man! My DSLR gear, including the glass that I use is very precious to me. In general I’m not using zooms, but primes, very particular primes for very particular purposes, and they are not necessary Nikon. I compared some of them 1:1 with the Fujis. Well Fuji is good, but not better, even with respect to distortion and CA. The Fuji lenses are typically computer designed lenses, sharp from center to corner, but not radiating any character. That’s a choice, one many photographers without a real history like to day, who am I to criticize them. But the Fuji zooms are nothing special. Who believes that, doesn’t know the market. I care a lot about sensor size and IQ, but I realize this is precisely the point where usually a lot of troll and strong reactions start, so I’m leaving this point for what it is. If you believe that the APS/C X-trans sensor is beating any other FF-sensor in the market, do so but I know it isn’t.
Your reply makes no sense!!!
DId you NOT notice where I mentioned i was discussing cameras in the mirrorless market?
Can you quote where I said the Xtrans sensor beat FF sensors? Because i never made that comparison.
Can you quote where I made any comparison whatsoever against Fuji and DSLR of any brand? ..
Can you quote when i made any comparison whatsover about Canikon pro glass vs Fuji? Why are you talking about Nikon dslr primes? I clearly stated i was discussing the “Mirrorless” market. I can absolutely speak about Nikon and Canon pro glass, but that is a different discussion altogether.
Can you make an attempt to read a post before you reply to it?
The only point i was driving at is in the MIRRORLESS (see i put it in caps so did not miss it again) market Fuji is clearly a contender and stacks up very favorably. Whch was a reply to the OP who seems to be expecting ground breaking innovation with every new camera model, which is something i have yet to see from ANY camera manufacturer.
If you just want to argue, thats all fine, but please try keep your points relevant rather than (no offence) build idiotic straw man arguments, and make claims on peoples opinions of which you seemlingly invented in your head.
And if you find yourself confused with the ergonomics of fuji, why do you still use it? I have the XE-1, and XM-1 which i use in a set doing long term timelapse photography, and i suppose i could see your points with thier older models and low end models, but i cant imagine why anybody would need to sit there and fumble with the XT-1 as all the important features are right there at your fingertips.
I cant help but think you are a troll. Why would somebody use what they feel is the worst contender in the serious market for 3 years?
I think Fuji is alright. Cameras are not mass production electronics like mobile phones and others. A camera and lens are supposed to last 10 to 20 years minimum, and their set of glass is almost complete and cameras are doing fine. I think their next move is to follow Pentax and deliver a set of WR lens to follow XT1 launch.
A special edition should always be Titanium! 🙂

OMG this is so awesome!!! I love it. Can you now photoshop the back of the camera with the 4 buttons of the XE-2 (on the D pad)
Thanks
Obviously, this is not as exciting as a genuinely new product but I think a silver XT1 will be extremely popular.
Is there no thought or rumor that the T in x100T indicates it will be weather proof like the XT1? That would be a nice feature.
What’s so special having a different color ? If that color would sell better, why doesn’t it come in the first place ? So what’s special ?
I suspect that the limited edition x-t1 will simply be adding a second sd card slot
A touch screen would make sense… and could be something that is easily upgradable on old models, as the rumour hints.
Would love it to get GPS. That would make it a true travel camera.
No news from X-PRO2 ????
