The X-E1 is ready to be replaced soon (announcement October 18) and it seems that just before the announcement there will be one more price drop… at least according to the source who shared the following information via rumor box:

There will be a $100 instant rebate on the X-E1 with kit lens that starts October 1st.

I remind you that the X-E1 successor will feature the X-Trans sensor II, better LCD and WiFi.

Stay tuned via facebook, twitter and RSS feed. October will be very hot this year 😉

  1. I will always welcome for the improvement of the X-E1 succesor , its really great to have better LCD, EVF, new sensor which already been great with the old one, but one thing that Fuji should focus is the AF PERFORMANCE, this area is more substancial and important than any other area of improvement.
After Having the X-E1 with four lenses for six months for shooting street photography I myself have to say that is not quite fun experience, coz i did missed a lot of shot and A potensial of a decisive moment.
My opinion based on my experienced in compared with other system which previously i owned already, i have A DSLR nikon system also M43 system. The AF performance is too slow still far behind both system which made me had to putted the Fuji XF system on the closet.
I hope the new camera will have a REAL FAST AF and ver accurate. Or else i have to wait X-E3, or 4 . While i keep shooting with my M43 gear

    1. I’ll be surprised if it will have a much better af than what the x100s has. If Fuji is working on a radically new AF solution with a serious improvement, I’m sure they will implement it in the the successor of the x100s or the X-pro1 first. I don’t know how good is the X100s PDAF but I sold both the x100 and the x-e1 because of the annoying AF. These things are too expensive to perform like this, at least in Europe.

      1. The x100s is already much better than the x-e1 in the AF department. If the X-E2 has the same sensor and improved electronics from the x100s that would be a big step forward. Personally, I’d like a servo focus type mode as well.

    2. Had a play with an XE1 a couple of weeks ago (the XE1 was high on my wish list). The issues with it to me stood out straight away. The lcd viewfinder was terrible imo, and the auto focus although better than I thought considering everyones complaints was still lacking in comparison to competitors. I had the chance on the same day to play with the Olympus omd em1. The omd makes the xe1 look very ordinary. Fuji needs to address these problems in the xe2 or they are going to be left behind, even with their amazing image quality.

  2. I will be interested to see what improvements the XE-1 successor will have,I assume it will have the same AF as the X100s which will be welcome.
Personally I won`t be updating as the XE-1 fulfils all my needs at the moment.

  3. Prices reduced in Germany at a large retailer already, arrived yesterday (or maybe day before). Also xf18 comes at €350,-

      1. Mediamarkt in munich, einsteinstraße. don’t Know whether this offer is available from their website it at other stores

  4. I have the X-E1 now, and the AF speed is OK for me with the 18-55. The big area where I think it could be improved is in continuous/tracking AF. I also have the NEX-6 and, while I prefer the Fuji in almost every way, the NEX can track a moving subject reasonably well (for mirrorless anyway) thanks to PDAF on sensor. Even on non-PDAF lenses, the CAF of the NEX is better than Fuji: it just racks focus back and forth as long as the shutter is half-pressed, but once you fully depress the shutter it won’t actually fire the shutter until AF lock is achieved (like the shutter-mash technique on Fuji X, except Sony _continuously_ focuses with half-press instead of stopping like the Fuji).

Also, it would also be GREAT if fuji could reduce lag and hiccups in the EVF. In practice I don’t find it a hinderance as far as final shot is concerned, but going back to the Sony makes the Fuji seem annoyingly slow. But the Fuji pictures are much nicer (trumps all for me). Fix these two things and I’m all yours, Fuji.

  5. As much as I’m excited about the X-E2 I will hold back and wait for X-Pro2. The fact that Fuji is not releasing this yet makes me think that it will be much more improved and I might as well have the new experience of a OVF which I’ve never used.

    1. I am waiting for the X-Pro 2 as well. However, if it is not a significant improvement over the X-Pro 1, I will continue shooting with it. The X-Pro 2 needs to come with much more improvements than the X100s improvements to entice me. Personally, I have no troubles with the AF. While it is slower than my old DSLR, it is more accurate.

  6. Well I just bought the x-e1 kit with the 35mm for a 150$ discount. I knew this was coming so the price drop doesn’t bother me. Will opt for the x pro 2 when it comes out and keep the x- e1 as backup. Happy times!

  7. Thank goodness, I hope the new fuji xe2 has good af. I sold my xe1 after about a month and just stuck with nex-6. The nex had better image quality in good light and just handled all situations better.
I hope to buy an xe2 if it beats out the sony

  8. The free 18mm lens offer is still running in the UK (free-xe1-lens.co.uk) plus the X-E1 + 35mm package is now down to £1,000

  9. I think the XE-1 is a good camera. Sure it has some faults (I wish the thumb rest was better designed and I’d like to shoot 8 bit tiff’s with LZW compression; a loss-less format). Yes the auto focus isn’t as fast as Olympus or the Nikon 1 system (I have both), but it isn’t that bad.

What Fuji gets right though is image quality; it’s simply, hands down top shelf. That’s most important for me.

As for upgrading I’ve learned that skipping a generation is wise thing to do. I’ll concentrate on lens acquisition while I wait for the XE-3.

  10. I have an X-E1 now, yet I have never held a X100S.
How much better is the EVF on the X100S over the X-E1 or are they the same?
Is the sensor really any better in the X100S at base ISO ? If so can someone show me?

      1. Thanks Patrick, I’m just curious as a touchscreen would really help if you could use it to change focus points like on the Sony NEX series. It would even be better, well for my use anyway, if it also had a touch shutter (you tap a part of the touchscreen which changes the focus point and activates the shutter at the same time) feature like on the Panasonic and Olympus m4/3 cameras with touchscreens.

  11. Even if fuji improve the AF speed on the new camera models the af speed of the lenses is still limited right?
Like in Canon for example, Lenses with the usm is way faster then lenses without, no matter wich house you have them on.
The 35mm will never be very quick im guessing, but maybe the 55-200 and others will be lightning fast with the right body?

  12. I always forgot that my OMD had a touch screen. I’m sure it’s fantastic for the marketing department, it was a feature that was easily overlooked during my day to day shooting. The AF may have been better on my OMD, but I would never trade a little better AF, for the images that my XE1 and X100s deliver.

    1. Yep that’s the only thing stopping me from getting an omd set up im not convinced the image quality will be what im used to. But the new omd em1 is not slightly faster it blows the xe1 out of the water, seriously brilliant piece of gear on every level. I love the look and syling of the Fuji but just feels its lacking in a few areas that other manufacturers are leaping ahead. I do hope the xe2 is a big step forward as im a massive Fuji fan and would love to buy into the system but it just hasn’t convinced me its worth it yet.

  13. I bought the X-E1 this week even though I was expecting this news due to the special offer in the UK. Like Felix (above) said, it’s currently £999.00 for the camera and 35mm lens with the 18mm lens “free”. I looked at it as £333 for each item which seems pretty great value.

  14. I agree Daniel. Fuji has something special going on, but hopefully, they will not remain static. Some of the features that I want to see are not necessarily features that I need, but there’s an enthusiast out there that has money to spend on a camera with those features and they need to be invited to the Fuji camp so they can bring their wallet, with them. Fuji has to compete to remain solvent, so they can keep paying the people that gave us the X100s, XPro1, and XE1.

    1. The great thing about Fuji is they don’t seem to be holding back, providing updates etc to their cameras and I think they are quite innovative. Im really keen to see what they are going to give us with the xe2 I’m just hoping it’s not a minor update but something that will convince me to buy another system 🙂

  15. The af speed thing is curious…i usually shoot beauty/fashion portaiture and street so the dslr focussing speed isn’t a priority. However the Fujis accuracy gives me more keepers. Once its locked on it stays there. If you absolutely need faster than a speeding bullet af ( everybody must be shooting sport or wildlife) then get a dslr. Too big? Then the OM-D will do it for you. It’s not like you dont have a choice. It’s your money, spend it how you will B-)

    1. I think people are after low weight, high IQ and beautiful image rendering, and at the same time want the processing power of the camera to be improved.

IMHO a pro/semipro DSLR can not deliver on low weight and m43 can not deliver on high IQ and beautiful image rendering. Fuji can deliver on both and needs to catch up with the competition (E-M1 etc.) with regards to processing power, even if AF speed at least for now will not be as fast as DSLR PDAF.

    2. “However the Fujis accuracy gives me more keepers.”
Well, yes the accuracy is nice, if the AF locks in. But both in lower light and also in vertical orientation (portrait shots) the AF has problems to lock in.
It should also be faster anyway… Like the better Olympus cameras.

    3. I think the af Thing has more to do with the fact competitors have better so everyone looks at it and thinks why can’t Fuji do the same. My thoughts were it is not nearly as slow as people make out. I rather see a better viewfinde

      1. Two weeks ago I visited the Chinese Moon Festival. Lots of people on the move. Allthough I love my XF 18-55 very much and its AF performance is very good compared to the 35mm lens, it still is too slow to get ppl on the move in focus plenty of times, not even talking about children running around.

  16. This is a pretty minor version bump for the XE-1. Glad they are on it, but not worth upgrading for me yet. Feels more like a good way they can up the production output of their current chipset. Needs a few more features before it becomes more desirable that the current XE-1. I’m still more interested in getting a plug-in GPS (something that plugs in to the usb port would be nice) so I don’t need to stuff around with totally separate one that need me to attempt to align the data later through some whacky manual process.

  17. I would like the setting for how long an image is shown in the viewfinder after you took it to be the same for the X-E1 successor as for the X100S, i.e. that you can choose between off, 0.5 s, 1.5 s and unlimited, because I prefer to be able to set 0.5 s instead of 1.5 s and do not need 3 s. If possible a firmware update of the X-E1 would be appreciated.

  18. I don’t think I will go for this one. Maybe if the manage to make the AF really fast and add minimum shutter speed in Auto ISO. But basically I wait for a new sensor with a bit more dynamic range. More like the Nex-7 one.
