On June 25 Fujifilm announced a new firmware for the X-E1 (Ver 2.00) and X-PRO1 (Ver 3.00). Now the company added some more details about it:
“In addition to the version-up content was announced on the 25th of June “FUJIFILM X-Pro1/X-E1” firmware, we have also added improved focusing accuracy when shooting the subject of low contrast.”
1. Improved AF speed on most existing XF lenses.
Thanks to an updated algorithm, faster AF speed is achieved with the following XF lenses:
XF14mmF2.8 R
XF18mmF2 R
XF35mmF1.4 R
XF60mmF2.4 R Macro
XF18-55mmF2.8–4 R LM OIS
NB: To benefit fully from the improvements above you will need to upgrade your XF lens firmware as well as your camera firmware
2. Addition of a “Focus Peak Highlight” function for manual focusing.
A “Focus Peak Highlight” function, as featured on the FUJIFILM X100S and X20 cameras, has been added to the X-Pro1 and X-E1 via this firmware update. It assists accurate and sensitive manual focusing by enhancing the outline of your subject in high contrast.
3. Improvement of the method to change magnification during manual focus.
Just press the dial to activate image magnification during manual focus and then rotate the dial right or left and the camera will alternate between 3x and 10x, whichever direction you turn.
4. Improvement of focus precision in various scenes
The focus detection algorithm has been improved to provide more accurate focus precision for low contrast subjects and scenes containing horizontal stripes.
5. XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS lens:
Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) is improved when recording videos. The OIS has been improved to reduce image blurring when walking and recording video footage.

This is GREAT! Can’t wait to head out for more shoots with the new function!

Please Fuji!
All this is good news !
But what about the auto ISO thing, with Setting of minimum shutter speed ?

I know this “bug” is annoying. To ensure a sufficient shutter speed I therefore set it manually as a workaround.
+1 it helps a lot, fuji go!!!
I’m OK with not having the minimum shutter speed on auto ISO, as I just set the speed manually if needed. But give me exposure compensation with manual speed and aperture when auto ISO is on, and I’ll be a happy camper.
Very good news, but please add minimum shutter speed to AUTO ISO. Thank you Fuji.
Please give us minimum shutter speed with Auto ISO. You can do it with the X100/X100S … what is so hard about including it with the X-E1 and X-Pro1?
So we still waiting for the minimum shutter speed setting for the Auto ISO, an option long awaited from Fujifilm’s users around the world.
+1
It is great that Fuji is constantly working on the firmware of their X-series cameras and I am sure that they could rise their sales by doing so. Big thanks Fuji!
I am eagerly awaiting the coming firmware update. The focus peaking option is a very welcome addition to the functionalitiy.
And I hope that Fuji will also change the functionality of either the Auto ISO and the DR option. and enable the EV compensation dial in these modes. That would be really helpful.
BTW: THX Patrick for this great site. Always a pleasure to sneak in 😉
Cheers
I agree completely
no more update for x100s?
It’s not even really available yet !
I can have one shipped to my doorstep by tomorrow from several local retailers.
What would you like to update in X100S? Looks like it’s a trend/disease to wait new updates even everything goes well. 😉
Looking forward to this update! Hope it won’t drain the battery considerably to use focus peeking …
1200 u$ dollars camera…and only minor update 1.01…to 1.03
IMHO with 23 1.4 or 23 2.0 ois lens….x100s is over
X100 just like abandoned baby
You’re right and I think we deserve focus peaking at least, and Fujifilm should consider they owe us that as X100 was the beginning of the X series success.
Why, it got tons of upgrades. More than any other company would have done.
Even one upgrade is already more than usual.
because it was $1200 (USD) and for some of us — only a year old…!
So .. did it stop working ?
Dan…you bought the camera without focus peaking…..so what’s the problem? Besides, focus peaking on a fixed lens AF camera is a little overrated IMO. Focus peaking is a much bigger deal on the X-Pro1 using legacy glass….
I´ll take it off you hands for free – no scrapping charges or nothing 😉
Can’t wait to take some shoots with my Nikkor 105mm and focus peaking feature.
Hmm, that’s a nice combo indeed, if you have a MF version that is. 🙂
All good news regarding the focusing updates… I’m not so bothered about ISO minimum shutter, usually have it set to 200 and increase manually when necessary. However, I would have liked an increase in the exposure bracketing from +1 -1 to at least +2 -2
Hmm, i don’t see why there is so much difference with that between cameras at all because technically there isn’t anything holding them back is there ? Why would it be limited at all, what stops them to make up to +10 available. Anwyay, it only has one stop bracketing ? Are you sure ? 😮 (x-e1 or x-pro1?)
Im talking about the AE Bracketing under Drive options, the only options on my X-E1 and I assume it’s the same for X-Pro1 are for 1/3, 2/3 and 1 stop bracketing only… My old Canon could be set upto 3 stops either side, I just don’t find 1 stop useful enough.
Yes, we’re talking about the same thing. 1 stop is almost pointless, unless it was for a wider range of 5 or 7 shots.
What, the new camera firmware does not improve AF on 55-200?
Probably because it’s brand new and already up to tech.
According to Fujifilm´s previous announcement June 25th, the 55-200 will not get any FW updates this time since it has already been optimized.

Well, I do hope this leads to a little less of the infamous red boxes when shooting in low light. Those can be pretty annoying at times (and yes, this is while actively using all of the workaround.. bigger AF box or continuous AF, try to get diagonal lines, etc).
This Auto ISO thing has got to end.
Gaffman’s guide to getting your ISO right:
Step one: Judge your scene. Do you have a lot of light? or not very much?
Step two: Set your ISO accordingly
Step three: Get on with your life
It’s ok you are right.
But this function that we ask is already present on new cameras like X100s and X-1M and it is only software.
Thank you! The X-Pro is a prosumer grade camera- if you want features like Auto ISO with Minimum Shutter Speed or Face Detection you are using the wrong camera and are in way over your head. Get yourself a camera in the X Series that is more geared towards the average consumer, which already has these features because those are not professional features.
X100s doesn’t seem consumer camera…
I’m used with Canon from film reflex to 350d 7d and now 5d2 so I know what you mean, many times I use camera in manual when I have time for composing. Sometime in family occasion I’d like to have this extra feature on my E-X1 camera that I love.
Bye
I think I need to pick up the speed booster to use with my Nikon 50/1.2 Ai-S 🙂 not to mention my 85/1.4 =D
This is getting ridiculous. Are they seriously going to let the entry level model have a better auto iso than the X1 pro?
“Gaffman’s guide to getting your ISO right:
Step one: Judge your scene. Do you have a lot of light? or not very much?
Step two: Set your ISO accordingly
Step three: Get on with your life”
Sure that’s nice, but i would much rather spend that 5 seconds with thinking about composition, light, talking to my subject etc. while my camera does this for me…
How hard is it to just hold your hand still…
Given the old recommendation of 1/focal length of a lens (1/60 for 50mm etc.), I’d say it’s pretty hard for any normal (living) human being to hold still for even a fraction of a second!
When I’m using the auto ISO on my X-E1 and 18-55 the minimum time is 1/30 s and if you are taking a landscape photo it can be ok, but if you want take a photo to a child how could you frozen the subject?
I’ve also the 55-200 and here the minimum shutter speed on Auto Iso is 1/85s
I’m very happy about focus peaking & the improved focusing algorithm, but I felt this is gonna be the firmware that finally solves the auto iso problems …
I’m a little worried about how focus peaking will work.
“It assists accurate and sensitive manual focusing by enhancing the outline of your subject in high contrast.”
I hope it will have that outline in an discrepant color, like red. Otherwise I will be disappointed.
It’s white, as on the X100s.
Nearly invisible in other words, not of much help for anyone with a little poorer vision.
Actually the focus peaking on X100s appears to be bits of white and black; it looks similar to putting white text on an image even over highlights and lining it in black to ensure it’s noticeable =)
We’ll see after the update next week.
And according to rumors, future updates will allow more colors.
😉
Focusing peaking, just what was missing to go X system and start enjoying both DSRL(D800) and X systems =)
Good news Fuji
Waiting for the X pro 2! And the Black X100S!
No informations about face detection in new firmware. Bad 🙁
I guess the vast majority of the users of these cameras wouldn’t use face detection. The entry level model has it.
Fuji missed the entire point of an update. At least for the average XP user.
Every camera below the XP-1 has better features for the average guy on the street. How many average users use manual focus anyway?
More scene modes would have been nice!
Even little cheap competitors cameras can beat Fuji XP-1 on some features!
Please don’t take this wrong- I really enjoy my camera and will continue to enjoy it until maybe the XP2 arrives.
@Henry I use manual focus quite frequently as it is a must for the 60mm at minimum focussing distance.
The point of the X-PRO 1 Is not to have shitty gimmicks such as modes and face detection this camera is aimed at the pro market who generally compose there shots and select their focus points.
If my canon 5D iii Came with face detection I would be a little insulted that they expect this of the market it was developed for.
I guess what im trying to say is if you do not like using Normal auto focus/manual focus maybe you should look at something like the XF-1.
