The X-M1 is scheduled to be released on July 29. But now AmazonUS says: “Due to high demand we anticipate being unable to fulfill all customer orders with our first allocation. Product supply from Fujifilm is very limited“.
I really hope that people who purchased the X-M1 won’t have to wait for their camera as long as those who bought the X100S (and are still waiting!).
The X-M1 is tailored to those point and shoot customers who want to “upgrade“. Fuji now delivers them a user-friendly camera where they can experience a touch of professionalism: a great image quality in one of the smallest cameras with APS-C sensor, easy to use, tilt screen, face detection, fast processing times (EXRII), focus peaking, WiFi, mode dial and still the opportunity to adjust shutter speed and exp. comp. (and aperture) through the dials (depending on how you set the mode dial).
Sure, no viewfinder (and no option to add it as accessory!!!) can be a deal breaker for enthusiasts and pros. But the X-M1 is more something for those who want to step-up from a point and shoot camera, leave the “automatic snapshot world” behind and turn photography into a real hobby (but it could also be a fine camera for those who look for a small, compact backup camera that deliveres the same image quality and colours of the X-PRO1.)
And if the X-M1 sales well Fuji will have more resources to speed up the development of their high end models. So, Fuji, after “conquering” the mass market with the X-M1 (and the upcoming X-A1), please go back to the roots and focus again on the high end models.
And to what concerns the “X-soul” debate, at the FR-facebook page Matthew said: “It’s a camera, a tool you can use or not. Pretty sure the “soul” is in the photographer.”
Now, it’s up to you to see if the X-M1 fits in (or not) with your needs.

It is quite astonishing how well it is going for Fujifilm.
The x100 sold twice as many as expected, despite being plagued with unreliable autofocus and unuseable manual focus. The x100s seems to be selling in even larger quantities judging by the long waiting lists and it being the most Googled camera on price watch sites for more 2 month solid. It is also rumored to be the qost reviewed camera ever. I’ve been waiting 2 months now for mine. Sales of the XE-1 and Pro models are also pleasing, being adopted by professional photographers around the globe that seem to be selling their Nikon and Canon equipment to finance the purchase.
Meanwhile the debate about which Raw conversion software, if any, do the X-Trans sensor justice continues to rage.
Limited huh, how about adding a new factory. 😛
I think they have a new one in the Philippines to produce more lenses.
Instead of releasing body after body Fuji, why not get your bloody arse in gear and release the 23mm that I was told would be available last year when I bought into this system. Absolute outrage
agree +1
Amazing I think fuji it’s one of the best mirrorless on the market
…but.. the mirrorless hype seems is over
http://www.43rumors.com/camera-slaes-history-from-2011-till-today-mirrorless-hype-is-over-dslr-rules/
..but x-pro2 will change the market soon
I’ve made a point to not buy any gear that isn’t made in Japan.
Any rumors about the X-Pro2?
the last reliable thing I’ve heard is…. “be patient”. 🙁
That’s better than “not even close”. 😉
No facts here. Just “anticipation.” Hard to quantify that. Suspect we’ll see no yawning gaps between supply and demand. Nice try.
I will probably sell my X20 and buy an X-M1 body, just to use it with some legacy lenses.
Thanks Patrick. At this point, we’ll take rumors about rumors regarding the X-Pro2.
I’m also looking forward to an X-Pro 2 or a X-E2 though I’m getting the feeling we might not get an updated version of either camera until next year. Typically, new body announcements tend to occur in September or October so there’s stock available for the holiday season.
If the entire mirroless market is selling 200,000 units per month worldwide.
and the X-M1 is located in the 30th-40th place in US amazon’s best selling system camera,
how many X-M1 cameras are being sold by amazon US?!
To simplify, lets assume that the X-M1 is ranked in the 40th place and that each camera in the first 40 places sells the same (which is not the case),
Then 200,000/40=5,000 are being sold in the entire world.
If that was the case than 2.5% of the entire mirrorless market would be x-m1 (LOL).
if 5000 X-M1 have are being sold worldwide, than I would estimate that no more than 500 (10% of them) units have been sold in Amazon.
The sad truth is that probably no more than 100 have been sold…
Sony’s RX1: Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #720
X-M1 Rank 1000++
the chance you see a person with an RX1 is way way higher than a (real) person with an X-M1.
I guess that there are a lot of reviewer there…
Randomly seen two people with XPro1’s, one in Montreal, another in NYC. Never seen anyone with an RX1 in the wild. So guess I should go buy some lotto tickets.
No need to buy lottery tickets just yet, X-Pro1’s rank:
Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #712 in Camera & Photo (See Top 100 in Camera & Photo)
#20 in system cameras.
