X-Trans entry level body to be offered in various kits?

Sorry if I bother you again 😉 But there is an update to what belongs the X-Trans entry level camera.

Trusted sources told me that the camera with APS-C X-Trans sensor (the famous X-entry level body) should be sold body only or offered in combination with the following kits: 18-55 or 18-55+55-200 or 27 pancake. I don’t know the price yet.

As I told you here, it will be smaller (less buttons or dials) and it won’t have a viewfinder.

cheers
Patrick

  1. I reckon there’s going to be a bottom end and a top end x camera coming out shortly…x-pro1 body only stocks are depleting in the uk at the moment and 2 retailers who are known for being generally more expensive (John Lewis and jessops) have crashed their prices of the pro in the last 24hrs to be the lowest priced retailers of this camera…

    1. Here in Japan, the price for the X-Pro1 has been going up quite a lot these weeks… To be fair, though, the X-E1 went up, as well.
Blame it on the weak Yen or whatever, but no signs of low stock here 😉

  2. Who will need such a camera?
Fuji should better develop a larger sensor camera for the prosumers.

  3. What will be interesting to see is whether the new camera includes some of the features debuted with the x100s, like focus peaking and PDAF. If so, then it will be cheaper than the X-E1 but with more capable internals and firmware, sort of a weird position for Fuji.

    1. That’s exactly what the X-E1 did for the X-Pro1, then came the X100S which was another step ahead, poor old X-Pro1 still left behind. So if it trumps the X-E1 in some ways it would be weird indeed, but not the first time considering the whole line-up is mixed up right now. 😛

          1. How is this a stretch? There are enough people out there don’t care about the viewfinder.

        1. You invited me to look up “entry level” in the dictionary and I pointed out that the x10 is entry level and has a viewfinder.

Ok, fine, you don’t need a viewfinder – but that doesn’t change that you’re mistaken in your kind assertion.

        2. That is exactly my point: I am not interested in an “entry level” camera. And if I were there would be more than enough options available from Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Olympus, Canon or Nikon.

Now, I could just not care about Fuji jumping into that frying pan, but I do.

I do, because the way I see it is that _any_ development takes resources. For the past months (years?) Fuji engineers spend their time in developing this entry level camera (and presumably lens(es)). Instead they could have spend that time on “enthusiast level” products. Products that would stand out from the mediocrity of their competitors. Products I would have been interested in.

  4. Just more song and dance…What I’m not seeing now is “APS-C” mentioned anywhere. So if any of this actually materializes, it’s going to be an ILC X20. What casts additional doubt on all of it is the lens issue. Will this bit of vapor accept current and future Fujinons or does Fuji expect buyers to accept a 2X+ crop factor in the absence of a new lens series for the cut-down sensor? Waiting for some substance.

      1. IIRC APS-C wasn’t part of the earlier version of your post today. I’m still dubious about pricing unless Fujinon lens prices suddenly take a dive below their current levels. X-E1+18-55+flash kits are going for just a bit above C$1200 in Canada.

        1. In my previous post I talked of APS-C entry level. In this post I simply forgot to write again APS-C, so I’ve added it later… and I hope trusted sources can tell me something about the price soon. Until now, the only price I’ve heard comes from a new source, $700, so “take it with a grain of salt”.

  5. Depends on price, really. If the pancake kit costs €150-200 more than the lens alone, I’ll be glad to pick up a back up/camera for my GF.

  6. What makes the X line special is the x-trans sensor and the XF lenses. Those should be constant, and a variety of body choices extends the offering out to different types of users. From hybrid VF to EVF to LCD only is a good spread, in utility and cost and size. It won’t be a “cheap” camera, but should represent the lowest cost body that retains Fujfilm’s reputation for X-level quality.

  7. What I’d like to see is an X100s with an EVF, NOT a hybrid view finder. The hybrid finder is what’s stopping me from buying an X100s. YMMV.

    1. It has an electronic viewfinder, as well as the hybrid. You can switch between them with that little lever on the front side of the camera.

    2. The X100s HAS an EVF. You can go to YouTube and search for a video that demonstrates this nice feature.

      1. We are talking about ENTRY LEVEL cameras here The Über Expensive X-Pro1 has a Hybrid finder. The LESS EXPENSIVE E-X1 has an EVF. No reason not to make a less expensive ENTRY LEVEL EVF version of the X100s.

_”The hybrid finder is what’s stopping me from buying an X100s.”_ I see No Reason to Pay Extra for a feature I don’t want or need. YMMV.

  8. This would be nice second camera with pancake, if it would have a viewfinder. Even electric viewfinder would be better than nothing.

  9. An interchangable-lens camera without a viewfinder is of no interest to me, I’m afraid. Or any other camera with no viewfinder, for that matter.

  10. If this were the size of the camera in the recently posted photo, it would be approximately X20-sized. Likely it won’t have a viewfinder, although it’s perhaps possible a small EVF a’la the new Panasonic LF1 could be integrated (which would be fantastic!), I don’t think it will. I suspect Fuji is looking to grab a share of the E-PL5, NEX5, etc market, which doesn’t seem to regard a viewfinder as a necessity. I think the prices bandied about (I think $550-700, with lens) also indicate there won’t be a VF here.

Still, if it does end up X20-sized, the pancake is quite small, and it uses X-Trans, I’d probably buy one no matter if it has a VF or not. It would be an excellent little camera; slightly smaller than a X100s, 40mm is a great all-around FL, or you could pair it with any number of your other XF lenses or bodies for travel. I would like a 2nd body for my XF lenses, but the X-E1 didn’t tempt me, and I don’t really need 2 X-Pro’s.

If it includes the recent X-Trans advancements, such as the PDAF and the faster processors, I will absolutely buy one to supplement my X-Pro and tide me over until 2014 Xpro2 🙂
