No hints on price?
This is going to be awesome!
Wish there was a 18-105 f4.
I too would like one but shoot a Canon FD 3.5 35-105 MF lens 90% of the time and happy with that for now if I don’t need my 18-55 fuji on.
Or 16-80 f4 🙂
This will be a welcome addition to the X-Series lens lineup! Updates to the X-E1/X-Pro 1 please!!!
Price has been rumored to be $699 USD
I shure hope the constant F4 10-24mm has a normal aperture ring. Does anyone know? It would be a major mistake if all fuji zooms would have a aperture ring without markings.
You can only put markings on aperture rings if the lens has a fixed aperture. The 18-55 and 55-200 do not. For example, how can you set f/2.8 on the 18-55 lens and then zoom to 55mm which is f/4 at maximum aperture.
Actually why not? By setting f2.8 you indicate you want the full opening – when you zoom in you get in the end f4, indicated in the viewfinder so there is no confusion. You siimply get the additional benefit of being able to see what it is set to before you raise the camera to your eye…
First. I was talking about a future constant F4.
Second. Like laseneka suggests it is even possible with variable aperture zooms. Nikon has done this for many years before the G-type lens era.
I know what you mean, but I have to agree with laseneka on this one. If it were up to me, I would mark the aperture settings as 3.5+ to indicate that the maximum apeture is 3.5, but it is variable and the numerical value can increase as focal lengths change, and so on. From 4.8, you would get rid of the + sign obviously.
But to be honest, I’m using the 18-55, and I don’t really miss the aperture markings all that much though it would be nicer to have one.
And an insignificant side note – there seems to be multiple freds in this forum, so I’m changing my id to fredp. I only made two comments far, about the x-e1 announcement leaking in Korea and criticism of Ken rockwell, so don’t mistake me for some other fred.
What I’m missing more on the 18-55 is not the aperture markings, but the ability to go from “auto” to “aperture priority” using the ring, instead of the dedicated switch.
Agreed!
Not true. Back in the day I had a cheap ProMaster 70-210 3.5-5.6 zoom I used with my K-1000. Back when manual was the only option you had to have f-stops on the lens. The only information available through the viewfinder was whether or not you were in focus and the light meter. No shutter speed or f-stop or anything else for that matter. I did find this very annoying on the 18-55.
This lens will complete my lineup of Fujinon lenses.
. With the 14, 18-55, and now this I’ve got my whole range covered. The 14mm is on the XP1 70% of the time. Looking forward to the XP2 so I can use the m mount on the XP1.
How does the XPro work with the 55-200?
Is it EVF only or is there a tiny frame in the OVF to indicate the field of view at 200mm?
My guess is it will not work well at all. The OVF will be largely blocked by the lens itself
Actually, at that focal length the lens will not block the OVF’s field of view at all, because it’s quite small and in the center. The rectangle in the OVF would be very small though.
There is a slide-in lens in the camera body that magnifies the OVF view when a long lens is attached.
Wondering if we’ll also get a new firmware or just the new lens. I’d love a new firmware as well, introducing focus peaking and properly implemented Auto ISO, as well as faster AF in low light.
Nice dreams 🙂
The lens that could have sold me an X body, if only: constant aperture in the range of f/2.8-f/4, zero play manual focusing, focus down to 1:2 while maintaining the full focal length of the lens (i.e. 200mm at infinity is still 200mm at 1:2), tripod mount, solid pro quality. As it is, it is strictly a kit lens aimed at the bottom of Fuji’s quality spectrum (admittedly better than Nikon’s kit lenses and about on a par with those from Canon). Sure it would have been $1500-2000 but that is what it costs to go pro, I wonder if Fuji intends to abandon the pro versions of the X body line of gear? That would be sad for me as I’d really like to switch from Nikon.
If that’s the ‘bottom’ of Fuji’s quality spectrum, sign me up.
If this is built the same and has similar optical quality to the 18-55, then this is very very far from a “kit lens”.
I was so counting on the 58mm filter thread but if I can see it correctly the picture says 62mm 🙁 What a bummer…
If it is even near as good as the 18-55mm I’ll take it. Don’t really care what numbers it has on the lens, I can see everything I ned to see in viewfinder of XE-1.
