RUMOR UPDATE: X-PRO2 coming late 2013 early 2014

I promised you that I’d come back as soon as trusted sources told me more, so here I am.

According to these sources, that were right in the past, Fuji won’t launch the X-PRO2 before late 2013 early 2014. So now I can exclude with certainity that, as rumored first in this Nippon Magazin, the X-PRO2 will be available in June.

So, still time to give Fuji some advice about how we’d like the X-PRO2 to be. Just write your wish list in the comments. I got some suggestions via email.

1) flip screen
2) wifi
3) touch screen
4) Allow customisation of the Q menu
5) focus peaking (where you can choose colour)
6) environmental sealing (from the comments. keep up your suggestions)

Some of these suggestions (for the X100S) can be found over here at uservoice.com.

Feel free to extend this hardware and software improvements-list for the future X-PRO2 in the comments.

  1. I’d like to see a GPS included. Better battery life. Additional grip not obstructing battery and sd card.

    1. I think that as long as it can sync with tablets and smartphones via WiFi, GPS feat isn’t so necessary, but with WiFi, they will certainly need a better battery.

      1. I beg to differ. A lot of hikers and outdoors folks use mirrorless cameras since they are smaller/lighter than DSRL’s. A model with GPS (and weather sealing) would be a nice for geotagging pics.

But, I don’t want any gimmicky features. Things like WiFi or GPS could blend into the background unnoticed, but don’t add anything that needless complicates the camera. Simplicity and absence of fluff features is the #1 reason I love Fuji’s X Series.

      1. This is an interesting string – the reality is you can not please all of the people all of the time. I was looking to replace my stolen 5d with something smaller I considered OMD, I liked the 5 axis stabilization but the complex menu and lack of direct dials put me off – the fuji system really appealed – I have owned 6×7 and 6×9 range finders and still have a 6×4.5 they make a great camera, in the end I bought a 6d why, because the designs bridge two schools and you may as well get used to one method of operation or another – not partial menu and partial dial for the main controls – so what do I want —1- A better EFV with faster refresh rate and better definition. 2- fast and accurate auto focus. 3- direct input dials for shutter speed 4- aperture ( I was really disappointed that the zoom lenses did not include a proper aperture ring) 5-exposure compensation – 6- ISO –
7-drive / self timer 8- af button 9- a programable function dial for what you may want, WB for example I want all these buttons to be indented so they can not be accidentally changed – most of all I want the best image quality I can get my hands on — I do not want Wi Fi, Gps or for that matter, a dozen scene modes, where I do differ with some of you guys is that I would like a tilting screen – like a GH 1 so that it can be folded out of the way – with a good EFV I am happy to use this to review shots – however the tilting screen is a great advantage when shooting from odd angles as well as on a tripod.

  2. Wonder if an -s model is considers a “successor”

Next year seems a long wait given the tech in x100s

  3. In regards to your bullet points. Hell no to a flip screen, Don’t care about WiFi, No to a touch screen, Yes to customizable Q, Yes to focus peaking.
Its a photographers premium compact/pro camera, don’t add so many breakable parts that don’t add to the photo taking quality.

In addition I’d like to see the improved hybrid viewfinder, the phase and contrast detection to improve autofocus, increased processor capability, Higher native ISO range, and like the x100s keep the same form factor.

    1. I completely agree. Keep the articulating screens on the low end consumer cameras. I want something that is very solid on a pro level camera. And move the AFbutton like on the x100s (I hope this is done to the xpro1 with firmware.

      1. Hmmm. The one thing I most want on a Fuji camera is a flippy screen. The sony A77 has the best one I’ve ever used. It’s genuinely useful for getting shots from unusual perspectives without having to guess where you are aiming. It also feels very solid in its construction. I think Fuji are missing a trick by not offering one.

        1. I agree with you, a screen that can b flipped back towards the body can protect it and enable photoshooting without chimping, aswell as enable self portraits and low/high level shooting. I understand that these are seen as “gimmicky” by some but genuinely, it is a nice featur if implemented right. The same goes for touch screen, picking focus point is a great use of touch, however, on screen menus usually do not work well (in panasonics world at least)…

    2. Right on. Leave the stupid boy toys off the XPRO 1 Enhance the viewfinder, tweak the autofocus as necessary, perhaps adjust some of the menu for speed and location.
Forget all the dumb toys like WiFi moving screens, but YES do work on the sealing for environment challenges. Other than that maybe second generation sensor but forget the toys.

      1. 100% right mate! Forget the cheesy, geek gimmicks like flip screen, geo tagging & wifi and develop decent manual focus, weather sealing and boost AF speed!

    3. Whenever people rail against articulated LCDs on a modern camera they may as well end the statement with “you young whippersnappers!” and shake their cane. How one cannot see the value of a waist level finder continually befuddles me.

      – Articulated screen
-The ability to turn of autogain in the EVF when in manual exposure
      – Weathersealing
      – All the speed/focusing/processing enhancements from the X100s

Give me that and I’ll place my pre-order now.

      1. “video bits&Articulating screens”. Harumpf…Kids these days…Just what we need Just more plastic toy cameras. That unnecessary crap breaks and leaks. And isn’t needed.
Why ruin a fine STILL camera? Just carry your smaller, lighter, “I phone”? The xpro-1or2 (?) will be the M9 I could never afford. I’d like it alot if they didn’t “fark it over” to appease the clueless(GIMMEE MORE features!) masses, until I get mine. The1ds kit is getting too big to haul on the shoulder for 12hours.

    4. I agree – for ISO I’d like to ask for a base ISO of 100 (boost to 50) and maintain similar high ISO quality in spite of a lower base.

    5. Agreed Q,

I don’t want to see any goofy gadgets like flip screen and wifi on the XPRO 2, more breakable useless stuff. It’s all about image quality and simplicity of use. The camera is designed to be a simple, rugged styled, rangefinder camera and Fuji has done a great job so far. The one thing I would love is to have actual rangefinder style focusing in manual focus mode. I do agree that a batter grip that didn’t obscure access to batter and memory card would be great.

    6. I agree. Keep it simple. Keep stream lining it. Make it easier and more logical to change ASA. Don’t add bells and whistles. Wifi is Prosumer.

    7. yesss Q is absolutely right with that! I love the retro look of the x-pro 1 and i dont want a flip screen or touch crap on it! that definitely would destroy the retro charme. Just improve the parts which improve the picture quality or which makes the camera work faster or user friendly. thats all i want!

  4. Rather than focus peaking which doesn’t impress me much (I don’t think it’s precise enough), it’d be great to flick a switch and have a circular area in the centre of the EVF show a 100% magnified view of that part of the display. Using the control wheel works to an extent, but it’s distracting to lose sight of the ‘whole’ image while focussing.

    1. I’m with you. The most important improvements for me would be a far more precise focusing aid (I am not a fan of focus peaking either), less lag in the EVF and customisabe Q menu. It would also be good to have a customisable menu page similar to Canon cameras covering sctions not found on the Q menu e.g. format card, flash ouput. Slightly more mega pixels would be nice providing there is no loss of IQ or high ISO performance.

  5. Improved AF, the split prism/peaking/EVF from the X100s and most importantly: a higher degree of environmental sealing.

    And 20 MP.

  6. A flip screen would be nice but not a necessity. To me the most important things are a better and faster autofocus, a higher refresh rate of the evf in low light and manual controls in video mode.

  7. Please Fuji:

Just add phased AF and Focus-Peaking!

Nothing more! No WiFi, no Touch-Screen! Let the X-Pro be a camera and not a toy!!!!

    thx 😉

        1. Had the OM-D, touchscreen was redundant. It’s a camera with A LOT of features, but all the features distracted me from taking good pictures. I finally sold it for a used X100, and although the OM-D felt more solid, it was a very good decision. Since the day I got the Fuji, I’ve been shooting more and playing around less.

  8. Keep the same body , improve the processor , no flip screen, no touch screen . better paint on the body , even better if they make camera out of bass

  9. – GPS
    – GPS
    – and GPS

I’m tired of having to use my iphone to track where my photos are taken. Sometimes I forgot to turned on the app. I used to use Nikon, and I love my GP-1 GPS unit. However, for the new X-pro2, it is better to have GPS in the camera.

    1. Forgetting where your photos were taken? Gee, I have 50 000 pictures in my archives and I know exactly where they were taken, each and every one… No GPS, No Touch screen, no Wi-Fi, no flip. All these technical make the camera more prone to breaking. Reliability is what I need. I still have my memory, my eye and my skills for the rest. Focus development on a better focus and weather sealing. A must for “Pro” camera.

  10. I don’t need wifi (who really does?) and for sure I don’t want a camera with touch screen (I’m talking about a camera, non a tech gadget) but I’d like an Improved AF and EVF and the idea of a customizable Q menu sounds good. Someone asked for “a higher degree of environmental sealing”, this’d be perfect.

  11. How about using one of these new EVF (Cosina or Sony) that are higher refresh rates and 3.6 ~ 3.8 MP

  12. No tiltable screen, no touchscreen.
    Phase detection AF
    Focus peaking
Wifi is always handy as long as it doesnt reduce battery capacity much!

  13. Well, that is disappointing. I guess I will have to consider other options. That is pretty stupid on their part, as they can easily update the x-pro 1/x-e1 now. That means the upgrade will not be available until perhaps this time next year, which is far too long to wait. If so, it better have at least an APS- H sized sensor and significant improvements over the X100s, as their will likely be full frame options by then. In my opinion, they better introduce an x-pro 1s/x-E1s now and a larger sensor x-pro 2 early next year. If not, in my opinion, they are making a costly mistake.

    1. FF? Given how long it’s taken to have the lenses we have right now, you want Fuji to spend its limited sources on a FF ILC boondoggle? Not to mention the size of FF lenses.

      1. Me,
Yes FF. I don’t use Fuji lenses at all, I only use FF.
Have a look at the 21mm Voighlander pancake and the 35mm Voightlander pancakes to see how massive Fuji lenses are, and how tiny and usable FF lenses really are 🙂
Maybe you are thinking about FF reflex camera lenses, but FF manual M-mount lenses are generally tiny in comparison. They are also optically better. They are faster to use as you don’t have the pause while the aperture opens and closes, and focussing is totally instant, less than 0.0001 of a second, because you use the hyperfocus scale, and if you don’t believe that works then look at HCB’s work, or Elliott Erwitt, or any of the greats, or even mine on my site, all done with manual hyperfocal distance focussing. FF with true rangefinder telemetry focussing, and get rid of the bells and whistles, less buttons, less everything, just a camera for real photographers and not for computer programmers 😀

        http://www.streetphotographix.com

        1. Fuji FF lenses would be huge. The X isn’t a rangefinder with long minimum focusing distances nor manual focus helicoids. It’s lenses are fully electronic SLR lenses with coupled apertures through electronic interfaces. There is no way to make such monstrocities small. I k ow Fuji will not make manual rangefinder lenses, which are the only small modern FF lenses.

Of course fully manual SLR lenses are much smaller, but not as small as Fuji’s DX SLR X lenses.

      2. To be honest, I don’t really care if they go full frame. I think the better option would be to go APS-H (perhaps 1.2 crop factor), so they can use the same lenses (assuming the image circle will cover that. However, I was hoping they would upgrade the X-E1/X-Pro 1 with the new features in the X100s immediately, as that should be easy to do.

Perhaps if they provide a firmware update for those cameras, providing focus peaking and minimum shutter speed with auto ISO, they would be more attractive and would be worthwhile to buy into. I doubt they can improve the AF anymore than they have without the hybrid AF, so manual focus assist features are important. I do, however, believe it is a mistake to provide the update to those cameras at the end of the year, or early next year, as they will sell far less cameras and lenses during the year if they wait. In addition, they may lose potential customers, such as myself, as many people are waiting to buy into the X-series cameras, but are waiting impatiently for the features in the x100s.

If it was my company, or up to me, I would upgrade them now, as the benefits will outweigh the costs. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like they are even considering it, much the same way they haven’t released the 23mm f/1.4 lens yet – marketing strategies, which are very questionable. Truthfully, the X-E1 should have been introduced with the features in the X100s, even if they had to put off the release date by a few months to do so. The only reason why they didn’t do so is because they wanted to provide a cheaper camera than the X-Pro 1 before Christmas without killing the X-Pro 1, which the new features would have done.

        1. I agree. I’ve been waiting patiently for the X-Pro upgrade and up until now I have been keen to buy into the system. I like the capabilities of the X100s but need detachable lenses. I might still wait a bit but if Sony or someone else comes up with a viable alternative then I’ll go with them. I think there are many people who will do the same.

I really don’t see what the problem is with regular upgrades. If you’re happy with your current model stick with it and upgrade when you’re ready. Actually, the more regular the upgrades, the less people are likely to complain. You buy a camera because it is right for you and yearly upgrades mean that when you decide you need improved functionality there will be a recent model at hand. If Apple only updated its phones or laptops every 3 years then users would be pissed off at having technology that lags behind the competition. Why is this different with cameras?

At the moment, I’d be happy to go for the X-Pro-1 or XE-1 but I need manual focus assistance (for my photos) and i need a fast autofocus (for pics of my child) and i need proper video functionality (to save me from lugging around another camera).

        2. My thoughts exactly. If this is true, it’s very disappointing. I was hoping to have a detachable lens Fuji camera to take on my mid-year holiday… One which doesn’t get bad reviews for its focussing capabilities.

  14. No tiltable screen.it’s going to broke soon!. and need more space.
    no touchscreen….it’s not necessary..it’s enough Q button

    increase quality EVF
    yes environmental sealing
    yes focus peeking
    yes Q button
increase noise control or increase megapixel to 21 (like ..almost..nikon d7100)

    that’s all

now i continue to take a pictures with my new X100s 🙂

follow the link below for …some test 🙂

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/tandoi

  15. more iso at least 25600 in raw
adjustable shutter speed in auto iso
    longer lasting battery
    better evf
    tighten up the controls
    adjustable diopter viewfinder

  16. 1) flip screen — BIG NO
    2) wifi — BIGGER NO
    3) touch screen — Oh HELL NO
    4) Allow customisation of the Q menu — that’d be nice, but the current Q is quick enough for me
    5) focus peaking (where you can choose colour) — YESSSSSSS
    6) environmental sealing — would be nice

    my suggestions:
    7) Digital split image
    8) Phase detection AF
    9) move the AF button to the right side or not having to press the AF button at all
    10) Accurate frame line
    11) Improved EVF with better resolution & refresh rate
    12) Improved OVF (I heard the X100s is better than x-pro1?)
    13) Improved write speed / buffer
    14) Includes Diopter
    15) Better add-on grip (doesn’t block the battery/memory card door)
    16) Ship with a REAL raw converter that matches the jpg output!!

Some other not-so-directly related to x-pro2:
    17) more flash options (preferrably X20-esque size but tilt/swivel)
    18) silver/black two-tone (for some other customers)

    1. Yes, those are very reasonable suggestions, opposed to the tech gadget ones above.

As for the sensor, I’d honestly prefer a return to a convenitional Bayer filter sensor without AA filter. The sensor in the Nex-7 (as opposed to the one in the nex-5N) is excellent and has better dynamic range which would be nice to have, the X-Pro1/E1 is limited in this respect. If Fuji could implement it’s clever noise control into the data processing, the results could be very very good.

The current sensor is quite good, but not class- leading or “breathtaking”:

    2. I agree with this and would add (as someone suggested below) to put the SD card slot on the side or in a position that could be accessed without taking off optional covers.

  17. Access to SD card from side of camera. 20 MP, optional B/W sensor (in my dreams), tiny pop up flash. no articulated screen.

    1. +1 optional Monochrome sensor. Get rid of the RGB layer and hot mirror. An optional offset microlens version for use with leica m glass might be too much to ask but would be a popular camera as a seperate X-PRO M. You could buy one body for each M lens you have for less than the price of 1 Leica M 240 body.

24MP sensor (for large print making) and just put the X100s EVF and manual focusing improvements and you’re good to go.

  18. Don’t want or need most of the gimmicks lists above. Would welcome environmental seals, better focus, cleaner sensor with even better DR and ISO. Not more pixels as that is more of a marketing tool, more is supposed to be better, no quality trumps quantity.

  19. I would like to see in-body IS. This is something lacking on Fuji’s main rival the Sony NEX. It would greatly facilitate the use of non IS lenses & in particular the legacy lenses which are increasingly being used via adapters.

It would be an easy matter to disable IBIS if the camera detected an IS lens. For those who are opposed to IBIS it could be switched off , so its inclusion could keep everyone happy.

  20. – Allow customisation of the Q menu
    – environmental sealing
    – longer battery life
    – Diopter would be excellent indeed
    – better hand grip
    – additional grip that you don’t have to remove to change SD card / battery… that’s quite annoying
    – …

  21. If they ad the flip screen and touch interface I for one would not even get it. Focus performance is still an issue and that should be at the top of the list.. Rear / write faster is always welcomed, as is programmable buttons. Maybe not the Q but adding another button all together. Regarding grip, I use a nice thumb up on my X100. It would be cool to provide one or maybe attempt to build it into the body. It seems to me most users are selecting this camera for compact stealthy use like street and travel so the ability to hold it for long sessions is a blessing.

  22. No to flip screen, wifi, GPS or touch screen – all features that aren’t consistent with the X series philosophy.

Environmental sealing and minimum shutter speed in auto ISO are key and top of my list.
Focus peaking and menu customisation are nice to haves.

  23. WYSIWYG linked to histogram while in manual mode. That’s my single biggest beef with the histogram, it’s useless in manual mode. And please NO flip screen!

  24. I assume it will incorporate ALL the X100s facilities and improvements (focus assistance, speed (operation, file recording and view), viewfinder resolution, etc.)
    Add: weather sealing
    RGB histogram
    Dioptric adjustment
ND filter – and included in the Q menu
AF-C active after pressing the shutter button ( the ideal would to allow menu selection)
AF-L – with choice ( Q menu) of lock between “till new pressing” or “while keeping it pressed”
    centered tripod mount

  25. Bigger battery and just tweaking of the current strenghts ar most important…

Also, really give AF/MF some consideration as well as try to make AF-C work with PDAF pixels as it usually does…

  26. My thoughts, mostly in order of preference:

    – hybrid phase/contrast AF
    – electronic first shutter curtain
    – focus peaking and split-image focusing
    – adjustment of minimum shutter speed setting for Auto ISO
    – environmental sealing
    – when zooming vertical images in playback mode, use the whole screen
    – improved EVF
    – customizable Q menu would be nice
    – 14-bit RAW files
    – built-in flash, ideally with bounce capability via finger (à la most pop-up flashes on CSCs these days)
    – sturdier feeling buttons on the back
    – close focusing without having to switch to macro mode (even if the camera must switch to EVF automatically)
    – while using OVF, switch to EVF “zoomed in” view for manual focus adjustment after half-pressing for autofocus (this works great on my NEX-7 where it’s called “DMF”), and switch back to OVF automatically when done
    – change the battery charger to a built-in folding plug, getting rid of the long cord
    – view distance scale in OVF/EVF when using manual focus on the 14mm (we can’t see the distance scale on the lens when we’re looking through the viewfinder!)
    – improved battery life
    – wi-fi would be a bonus
    – GPS would be a bonus

  27. Meaningful AEB for HDR freaks like me would be nice. For such an expensive camera, at least upto 7 shots, +/- 5EV.

    HDRFreak

  28. My thoughts as a X-10, X-E1, X-100s owner:

    1) flip screen – NO, it feels gimmicky, Just add resolution!!! (960K) Tilt screen like Olympus OMD would be ok if they REALLY want to add one.

    2) wifi – NO, feels to Samsung galaxy android version peanutbutter,jelly,ice-cream,pineapple,strawberry,cookie dough, fudge, cheesecake,WDENKFEJNFNFKA whatever

    3) touch screen – Against design philosophy and who really likes using it???

    4) Allow customisation of the Q menu – Would be a great add on!!!

    5) focus peaking (where you can choose colour) – add function to have 10x/3x magnification in evf/ovf/liveview in the center of screen instead of fullscreen (like the Leica x2) with manual focus6) environmental sealing (from the comments. keep up your suggestions)

    Futher:
    – Hybrid phase/contrast focus V2 With better AFC (nature and sports)
    – Weather sealing
    – TTL support for canon/nikon flashes would be nice or just rebrand Yongnuo 600EX with TTL support
    – better battery life
    – Built in ND filter
    – Apple aperture support
    – Portrait Grip with battery (only for use in studio)

    Thiswould make a nice accessory:
    – Leica M mount speedbooster (metabones)!!!! (would also be a way to make the current aps-c X-line fully compatible with future Fujinon Fullframe lenses.

  29. Weather Sealing – I don’t have to put away my D3s, I don’t want to have to put my X Pro away either. 🙂

    14 Bit RAF’s – The X100s has it… I’ll take it!
Compressed RAF’s – PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, think of the children/Hard Drives?! 🙂

    oh, and PDAF

That’s about all I really want. Other than the customizable Q menu, and world peace. 🙂

  30. – lock (like on shutter speed dial) for the exposure compensation dial
    – when turning the focus ring while in manual focus with x-mount lens, automatically switch to EVF with the configured manual focus zoom/style, rather than requiring the button push
    – Folding plug on power brick instead of a cord

  31. Fix the viewfinder so it’s more accurate.

Please move the “Q” button, which I am always pushing by mistake.

Add a diopter adjustment on the viewfinder.

(This for the lenses — make the “A” detent stronger so it doesn’t slip so easily.)

  32. I agree with much of the above sentiments regarding a touchscreen/flipscreen – while nice if properly implemented, they do introduce additional break points and would also detract from the overall look and style Fuji has strived to maintain with the X series. I would be interested in seeing them somehow incorporate the grip into the body, which could then be taken advantage of by creating space for a bigger battery. An optional portrait extender could still be marketed and added on as well.

Really, Fuji needs to just take their “continued improvements” approach that they have been refining with each iteration of the X series and make sure when they launch the X PRO 2 that they are bringing it again to the top of the range for the series in terms of performance and features.

Make it worth the wait, be informed by what the competition is doing and keep listening to the loyal users out there, they seem to have gotten this far by doing just this, I would hope to see them continue to do so. The success will come naturally if they stay the course.

  33. Acceptable flash sync speed. 1/250. If they can mange that, I will sell my Nikon kit, and if they can’t, I’ll be forced to stick with my bulky DSLR. Anything else hardly matters for someone who primarily works with flash but would like a more compact kit.

I am honestly flabbergasted that so few folks mention this shortcoming of the X-Pro system.

      1. It *can* sync at 1/250, but it certainly doesn’t do so reliably, depending on what you’re using for lights and flash/camera connection. A D700 will sync at a *minimum* of 1/250 with any light I connect it to, and regardless of whether it’s connected with a cable, PW, or other remote. The best the X-Pro 1 can pull under those circumstances is 1/160-1/180. For me, and many other users that use lights regularly, 1/250 flash sync is a minimum requirement for professional work, and right now it’s the *only* thing keeping me from swapping my Nikon system for a Fuji system.

        1. i have tried syncing it with a canon 430exii.. fastest i got without banding is 1/180, which is slow to me and i hate placing and removing nd filters on the run.

  34. Not to forget a better placement for the tripod socket so that the tripods quick release plate doesn’t cover the battery hatch when mounted on the camera.

  35. The niche Fuji users seems very averse to new stuff.

Everything that is not “classic” is just gimmick. Why?

I understand that some feats are not a necessity and you may not care, that’s ok, but some treat the things they don’t want in a pejorative and depreciative manner, like it’s less PRO or less “photographic”, that’s just stupid and narrow minded.

WiFi can be very good for sereval reasons like automatic backup, cloud storage, pin GPS location, remote controls, on-the-go editing power and so on.

Touchscreen can be helpful for navigating through menus, for some situations like touch focus and touch shutter but I don’t think it’s a priority for X-cameras. And in the end, if you want it, don’t use it.

I think that flip screen is not as useful as a swivel one, although, in general, flip screens are more reliable in terms of durability. Anyway, the ability to see angles that otherwise you wouldn’t is a nice thing to have, this can add stuff, it brings new possibilities depending on your subject or what you want.

I know that there are some concerns about durability, but I don’t think that Fuji would bring something just for the sake of having it, if they were to add something, they would try to make sure it’s solid.

Weather sealing is good, but then, you also need weather sealed lenses, if Fuji should go to that path, I suggest they also update the AF motors.

    1. I think you will be better off with a Sony. The design philosophy of the x series is back to basic photography, simplicity without gimmicks.

      1. Yeah I tend to agree with you.

Wifi is a basic tool, and keeps the use-case minimal.

And things like GPS are essential for some pro users.

  36. Hybrid AF – improved continuous focus and in low light situations
    Higher performing EVF
    Focus peaking
Wifi support via Eye-Fi or similar cards (ideally support more than one kind)
Smallish battery grip with GPS and USB3 – Would not need to have a second control set.
Weather sealing would be nice but a moot point if the lenses aren’t sealed.
No flip screen. I have a A99 and it’s screen is great, but a flip screen on the X-Pro(x) would be out of character with its retro design.

  37. – Improve AF
    – Focus peaking to aid manual focus
    – Allow control of single focus point via scroll wheel with right thumb
    – Eliminate shutter and lens chatter
    – Improve EVF resolution and eliminate lag
    – Weather sealing
    – Built-in thumb rest/grip instead of accessory
    – Have eye cup as accessory

  38. A simple true rangefinder with telemetry focussing, no extensive menu options, just a very simple manual-focus only body for M-mount lenses, with a full frame X-Trans sensor… a camera for real photographers – that would be nice 🙂

  39. I got into the Fuji X system because it was simpler, lighter and better built. Complicating the cameras with more features turns Fuji into an also ran, trying to catch up with Cankon. The appeal of the X-series is that it isn’t just another plastic box of endless electronic options. I sure hope they don’t ruin it this early in the system’s development.

    Dave

  40. GPS

Auto ISO that can be set for a faster minimum shutter speed than 1/125

Those blinking highlight clipping warning things for image playback (Do the X series cameras have these and I just haven’t been able to find them yet?)

    Leaf shutter like the X100s

  41. i would like a 24cm x 24cm sensor size (a square), that would still be in or near the coverage with the current aps designed set of lenses, but would allow photographer to crop at will. this would allow never having to tilt the camera 90 degrees to get a portrait aspect, or would allow a left eyed photog (me) to tilt so that my nose would not touch the rear screen, and still crop to a landscape view.

  42. What do I want to see in an XP2?

    + No touch screen.
    + No tilting screen.
+ Screen with ultra-hard cover for improved scratch resistance.
+ Higher contrast, better blacks, more pixels for the screen preferred.

+ Faster speed from shutter button to shot.
    + Faster autofocus.
+ Less time between single shots.
+ Faster continuous shooting speed (10+ frames per second.

+ Ability to set low and high A, T, ISO in Auto A, T, ISO modes.
+ Exposure comp. dial working for manual A manual T mode.
+ ISO dial as well as aperture ring and speed dials. PLEASE!
+ More resistance for exposure comp and lens aperture rings and focus rings.
    + Improvements in framing accuracy.
+ Frameline adjustments working in manual mode.
+ Move the macro button somewhere else.
+ Use the 4-way controller for more stuff. (Make it usable whenever it should be.)
+ Use the dial controller for more stuff. (Make is usable whenever it should be.)
    + Exposure comp. to +3-3 or +5-5.
+ Speed dial in 1/3 stops somehow, maybe with an adjustment rocker or smaller dial.
+ Adjustment to focus ring speed.
+ Keep the big buttons – sometimes I walk around in cold countries and operate the camera gloves on.
+ Keep XP1 button feel (better than XE1 button feel).
+ Option to make lens go to aperture as set on the dial and not stay wide open until shot taken. (Continuous DOF preview.)
    + Split screen focussing.
+ Focus peaking for those that don’t like the split screen approach.
+ Improved EVF, with higher contrast, better blacks, more pixels.
+ Setting to go to WYSIWYG exposure in the EVF and LCD.
+ Improved histogram (channels and size).
+ Accurate histogram in manual mode.

+ Option to remove confirmation of to- and from- macro mode.
+ Option for function button to do nothing.

+ Improvements in low light capability, better noise handling (the best can get better too).
+ Wider ISO range, especially ISO 25, 50, 100 … for good DOF in bright light.
+ Higher pixel count if not in conflict with the above.
    + Water resistance or waterproofing.
    + Built in ND filters?

+ More lenses. Same or higher quality. (Awesome.)
+ Lenses to have optical correction rather than in-camera correction as far as possible.
+ Manual focus and aperture on all lenses (including zooms).

+ I don’t care too much about video, but improvements welcome for occasional casual use.

    1. Its too slow and uses too much battery. SD card is 96MB/s, Wifi is 54Mb/s – factor 16 slower even before considering the protocol overhead of Wifi.

  43. To make it a real Leica-killer: 32MP, very high contrast 35mm sensor, superfast XF high precision AF, standard M and XF support on the same flange mount, 12fps with intermediate exposure and focus adjustments, focus peaking in manual focus, even more film alike colors also for B/W, solid fully scratchproof body also available in silver, optical viewfinder adjustment like in the E1, better battery ergonomics and finally: the most important, a sensor that will be supported from day 1 by all major RAW-convertors without silly color bleeding and pixelation artifacts.

  44. The concept of a tilt screen is interesting, but could be accomplished in other ways, maybe an attachement to the viewfinder, old school but would work too otherwise live connect to your phone to show the LCD, new school…

  45. 1) No
    2) No
    3) No
    4) Whatever
    5) Sure
    6) Yes, absolutely, and please weather-seal the zooms as well

    7) More shots per battery
    8) Better/moderately accurate battery indicator

  46. Add a LIVE VIEW BULB mode. It works like this:

    1. User sets up an update period in the menu that defines the time between updates like 5s 10s, 30s, 1 min and so on.

    2. Place the mode into Live VIew Bulb, compose and shoot. The camera will then update the image on the LCD screen as it exposes with updates as defined in step 1. Include the small histogram in the LCD to accurately judge the exposure!

It is like watching a polaroid develop. The Olympus OMD has this function and it makes for PERFECT ultra long exposures. The OMD limits you to 27 updates though.

  47. “So now I can exclude with certainity that, as rumored first in this Nippon Magazin, the X-PRO2 will be available in June.”

    i’m confused by this sentence.

IT WILL or WILL NOT be released in June???

        1. Most likely true, as they are way behind in introducing their lenses. But, very disappointing. Unless they come out with a fantastic firmware update (with at least minimum shutter speed in auto ISO and focus peaking, but hopefully also in camera TIFF), I doubt they will sell many more X-E1/X-Pro 1’s and thus lenses as well.I think it is big mistake, unless they provide that firmware update and the X-Pro 2 is a significant upgrade over the X100s, such as with an APS-H sized sensor, weather sealing, in-camera TIFF, and perhaps weather sealing in addition to all of the features in the X100s. Currently, their best camera performance and feature wise is the X100s, which is too limited if someone is looking to have one camera, and is crazy, as it does not contribute to lens sales. I am very disappointed, as I was looking forward to getting one for my wife and myself; and we are definitely not buying an X-E1/PRo 1 and then upgrading next year, which is the likely release time for the X-Pro 2, if they are planning to announce it late 2013/early 2014. Unfortunately, there are not any alternatives, as the competition are not introducing anything even close to as inspiring as Fuji – some will say Sony, but their lenses and computer-like feel are disappointing to say the least…Sorry for the rant…it is not your fault!

  48. Better battery life and a slightly thicker grip. If the case were slightly enlarged around the grip, this would provide space for a larger battery and a better grip.

No floppy screen. How about an innovative approach here, like an accessory screen to mount on the hot shoe. Win win for all:)

  49. Titanium, weather sealed body
20 mpix and make it larger than APC sensor , but still be able to use the current range of lens’s
this should lead to Cleaner , high ISO performance
    Leaf shutter
+ improvements as made to the x100s
    Larger battery.
    WIFI for wireless remote trigger.

  50. Combine shutter speed dial with the compensation dial

…and allocate a separate physical switch to toggle between shutter-speed-priority and AE so the same dial, using the same right thumb, with the same stiffness of the dial, can do the same thing – shifting exposure against the aperture allocated at the lens ring.

Shutter speed dial is in an odd spot, hard to reach, though sometimes you do need to use it to take full control of exposure, which in some situation like changing light direction cannot be done with AE and compensation.

  51. I also think they are making a mistake by not introducing a new Xpro model this summer. That said…obviously the XP1 AF still needs help, give me improved low light ISO performance, a higher resolution sensor, an EVF without lag and move the Q menu switch to the left side. Incorporate all the improvements found on the X100s.

  52. All I want is fast 39-point AF to shoot sports and my kids’ soccer game.

No need to include gadgets like WiFi, GPS, touch screen…etc.

  53. What Q said, way up at the top – no flip screen, no gps, no touchscreen. That’s why we’ve got Panasonic.
Problem isn’t that we’re too old. We’re just experienced in art of photography and fiddling with a touch screen etc is in no way comparable to well placed buttons and dials. You want a touch screen on a pistol or a trigger? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Apart from the implied violence, it’s an apt analogy for trying to get a photo in a fast-changing situation – partly what this was designed for.
Sorry for errors, but typing on a smartphone and have a banner blocking half the area (kind of appropriate re. technology being a barrier sometimes:)

  54. 24 mp (keep xe-1 & X100s at 16mp)
dual SD slots- can configure to send RAW and JPEG to separate cards
tilt/swivel screen, can be reversed to protect LCD
focus improvements- speed, and peaking/split image
4:3 and 5:4 formats available in EVF mode. (3:2 is too long for most verticals, I compose in camera, NOT on the computer)
Can do away with ALL video output for all I care.
    No built in flash.
Keep same size! The other models are available if you want smaller. I don’t like clients wondering why I showed up with a point and shoot. This is the PRO model
    Keep it black
Maybe dedicated ISO button. FN works fine for me, but would free it up for something else.
Fuji should standardize control/button layout for all models, as far as possible.
I dont need other gizmos like WiFi, GPS. Keep it pro stills camera
Touch screen can be a way to select focus point quickly, But I use the View finder! No Zombie
shooting. I wouldnt use touch screen myself much if at all.

  55. Please keep this a beautiful classic camera.

Some improvements: weather proofing, viewfinder ovf/evf, overall speed, some tweeking mentionned: button relocation, firmware.

  56. Oh, and TIFF format output option. Fuji does so well with JPEG and in camera RAW conversion, I would want printer ready TIFFs available also.

  57. Weather sealing
Focus speed on par or better than my OMD
    Button arrangement of the x100s
    Customizable Q Menu
Touch screen with tilt much like my OMD for shooting from the hip with better discretion
    Better peaking with colors
If at all possible make it FF…but that is the least of my concerns. I am buying an x100s but awaiting the XPro2 and won’t be buying an XPro1 since I don’t feel like upgrading later on.

  58. 1. Flip screen

    2. Flip screen

    3. Flip screen

I come from the Olympus Om-D 5 and I miss this feature like crazy.

  59. more physical Function buttons, and the ability to assign a different option to the Function button for different shooting profiles, e.g. specified a video profile and assign the Fn button for video, or specified a landscape/marco profile and assign the Fn button for depth-of-field preview.

a second command dial around the 4-way controller, and use it to replace the control of the left-right control for adjusting shutter speed, and re-purpose the 4-way controller button (such as more function buttons)

improve flash-sync speed to 1/250s, or even better to 1/500s.

better AF-C w/ tracking on continuous shooting.

    eye-diopter adjustment (I’m getting old)

  60. Most people here are against the flip screen, but I do not think so.

Flip screen or swivel screen is a good weapon for street photographers who want to be invisible. I didn’t realize this until I see the old street photographer Vivian Maier who used Rolleiflex on the street. Try to move camera away from your eyes and shoot from the hip, you will realize how much different your photos can be.

  61. we wish for :-
    1) filpscreen (canon style) – for shooting at various angles. or to prevent glare.
    2) touchscreen – for convenience and speed.
fuji must offer these extras to those fence sitters between X-series and nex.

  62. Wishes for my soon to be camera, APS- H sized sensor, faster evf, better manual focus and weather sealing. No tilt screen please and I’m happy for Fuji to take there time if it means getting it right…good things take time.

  63. Before coming out with an X-ProS/2, come out with all the lenses first for crying out loud. Where’s the 23mm, the portrait and wide angle zoom? I’d be happy with firmware updates to get focus peaking, min. shutter for auto ISO and reduce EV lag when shutter is half pressed. Surprisingly with the current firmware on the body and 35mm lens, the focus is pretty snappy in good light. I just got an X20 which purportedly has fast focusing (and it does) and compared to the X-Pro1, the Pro is not that far behind in speed. The big brother has come a long way in that area. What’s even more surprising is that the X-Pro1 can acquire focus in very low light situations when the X20 cannot. The spirit of the X-Pro1 is to bring out the photographic experience back to the way it was – purposeful shooting. I think the people who insist on faster focus speed are the spray and pray crowd. Really now people, even if it focused as fast an OM-D or a Nikon 1, you’d be asking for DSLR focus speed. If you want something that fast, get a DSLR. It will have better ergonomics, weather sealing, customizable buttons, etc. etc.

Now, if there is a X-ProS/2, here are the things I would want:
    1. Auto ISO min shutter speed and max ISO setting (work on the tendency to over expose while you’re at it)
    2. Swap the AF button with the Macro button positions
    3. Faster processor so it works fairly well with Class 10 (non-UHS) cards
    4. Wi-Fi Card capability so I don’t have to take out the card when I don’t want to
    5. Improved battery life
    6. Diopter adjustment
    7. Exposure compensation when in full manual and non-auto ISO or auto ISO is off (when auto ISO is on, I understand why you can’t have exposure compensation)
    8. Faster flash sync (maximizes battery life when using fill flash in the daytime)
    9. Same video as X100s/X20 (since it’s already there)
    10. Better demosaicing algorithm and take care of the visible color smearing (it never really goes away)
    11. 49 point phase detection points (I think that’s number of focus points for the OVF). Right now there’s only two on the center for the X100s/X20. It makes more sense for people who use off center focus points (like me)
    12. And for the biggest one….. better strap lugs!!! I swear my strap lugs are so worn that one of these days, my camera will just fall off from the strap. Use vanadium alloy or some harder metal.

p.s. – excuse the poor spelling and grammar…. on my third beer on an empty stomach

  64. I dont agree with your list, except for number the focus peaking. Why would you put a touch screen, flip display like all the other cameras out there.

  65. exposure compensation in all modes (including Auto ISO with manual shutter speed and manual aperture)!!!
    no flip screen!!!
    no touch screen!!!
    base ISO 100!!!
    weather sealed!!!
adjustable minimal shutter speed in all modes!!!
    2 (or 3) Fn buttons!!!
    Phase detection AF!
AF-C active after pressing the shutter button ( the ideal would to allow menu selection)!
    Focus peaking!
    3D tracking (like Nikon DSLR)
    exposure compensation +-4EV
allow to set more manual lenses (not only 2)
better histogram ( and RGB histogram, Accurate histogram in manual mode)!
    customizable Q
    improved hybrid viewfinder
    increased processor capability
    ISO 25600 in raw
improved EVF with better resolution & refresh rate
    Digital split image!
    Improved write speed / buffer
Ship with a REAL raw converter that matches the jpg output
ND filter – and included in the Q menu
    14-bit RAW files
    HDR +/- 5EV
Screen with ultra-hard cover for improved scratch resistance
Higher contrast, better blacks, more pixels for the screen preferred
Faster speed from shutter button to shot
    Less time between single shots
ISO dial as well as aperture ring and speed dials!!!
    Keep the big buttons
Improvements in low light capability, better noise handling
    More lenses
Lenses to have optical correction rather than in-camera correction as far as possible

  66. not mentioned yet? BUT what about…

A round sensor, in RAW mode and for the JPG mode your desired choice of format..
    allowing maximum from lenses.

    1. Wouldn’t it be wild if Fuji came out with a sensor format in between APS-C and FF? I think I read it somewhere that the image circle projected by the current lens is bigger than the current sensor. For all you design engineers out there, is this reasonably possible? The X100s already has better camera performance than the X-Pro1, so how else can Fuji make that differentiation between the two aside from the interchangeable lens? And rather than going for higher pixel count in this sensor, go for larger pixels to further improve on an already stellar high ISO performance. Then you’ll have depth of field that comes close to FF. Again, I’m not an engineer, so I don’t know the technical implications behind this or potential.

  67. First of all, i want the xpro2 to have a full frame xtrans sensor, a better viewfinder, better video quality with manual controls, and a tiltable flash.

  68. include the zone focus meter in the info display, (i dont usually go into live view)
minimum shutter speed in auto iso
    adapt all x100s changes
    add diopter
    add weather sealing
5 axis IBIS like the omd for sure win!
don’t add any markings in the front of the body. (like the “S” from the x100s)

  69. All of you wanting IBIS are crazy. LMFAO! If you want that, you need to go to a camera manufacture that has this, NO camera company is going to suddenly just going to add that. EVER.
I guess its ok to want that….but its a want, that will NEVER happen, EVER.

  70. If Fuji wants to go after the pro market then better auto focus, longer lenses and (wireless) tethering would be very welcome. Personally I would already be very pleased with a better lens cap for the 35mm hood… 🙂

  71. Great! 🙂 But please not too many additional features. Keep it simple.
No flip screen, no wi-fi, but more battery power, focus peaking, a flawless smooth EVF, never needed GPS but would be nice since I travel a lot (and so do many with this camera, I suppose).

Don’t add more and more features – make the features it has work absolutely top-notch.

  72. 1) flip screen – NO!
    2) wifi – NO!
    3) touch screen – NO!
    4) Allow customisation of the Q menu – Can be useful, definitely not a priority
    5) focus peaking (where you can choose colour) – yep, would be good
    6) environmental sealing – YES, please.

  73. Love the X-Pro1 and lenses and am currently using it for all kinds of photography, mostly weddings and portraits. Extremely happy with lens quality and ISO6400 performance. Contrary to internet forum rumors, once you understand how to best use this camera, missing photographs from AF speed is pretty rare, but no one would ever turn down faster AF. I highly recommend Rico’s book “Mastering the Fujifilm X-Pro1” which is loaded with great tips and also applies to X-E1.

I agree with those who understand that this is a tool for experienced photographers who want simplicity and reliability. Look at the $7500 Leica M9. There are no gadgets and while weather sealing would be nice, no Leica M has EVER been weather sealed. The current X-Pro1 offers more than that already, has better image quality, and is only $1400 for the body!

Keep consumer features like pop-up flash OFF the X-Pro and leave them on the X-E1. There is no need for larger files. The current 16.3MP files are huge and offer massive prints that 99% of all photographers will never make. Larger files just means more memory card changes and more hard drive space.

We know with almost 100% certainty that the updates and button moves will be akin to what the X100s got over the X100, just in a larger pro body with interchangeable lenses. I am TOTALLY cool with this. We know focusing speed will improve, as will processing speed and buffer, etc.

My only issues after using these cameras professionally for 6 months after simple:
    1. Change AF selection button to the right, on FN button OR allow photographers to use the dial to switch points. 49 AF points covering most of the frame is a REAL luxury that you wouldn’t get with FF sensor. The change on the X100s is perfect!
    2. I would like to get more life out of the batteries, but increasing consumption with wi-fi, GPS, etc would only make that worse. No wi-fi, No GPS. Providing them as *options* like with a grip or something might be ok.
    3. Customizable file names (I have two X-Pro1 bodies and overlapping file names mean they have to be renamed externally when I am backing up files to one client folder).
    4. Auto ISO implemented like Nikon (this is minor, but a nice feature to have in constantly changing light)

The X-Pro1 is a beautiful, simple tool for photography. Surely Fuji understands this and will make updates appropriately rather than try to make the mistake of loading up the spec sheet trying to please everybody, which is more likely to please nobody. Many of us love this camera and lens system and are not eager to upgrade. Simply seeing the changes in the remarkable X100s would be more than I could ever ask for, but I’m not in a hurry for them.

  74. I don’t care much about the X-Pro (the X-E being more my thing), but:
    * improved battery life
    * battery charging through (micro) USB
    * rotary dial for ISO
    * combined rotary dial for shutterspeed / exposure compensation (reason: I shoot 90% with aperture priority and 10% full manual)
    * exposure compensation at least +/- 3 stops (in 1/2 stop increments)

    As for the questions:
    * flip screen? maybe
    * GPS? only if it has minimal impact on battery life
    * touch screen? don’t bother
    * customisation of the Q menu? maybe
    * focus peaking? would be nice
    * environmental sealing? don’t bother (lenses are not sealed anyway)

  75. Flip Screen – NO not for me. Bulky, ugly, fragile and not necessary.

Touch Screen – Hell NO. Buttons are precise and you never miss a function. Fiddling about trying to see a touch screen in bright light and trying to touch the right spot — nightmare. Surely Fuji would never consider such ridiculousness.

Wifi — OK as long as adds nothing to the weight/bulk of the camera and the battery is beefed up to cope.

Save Lossless TIF files — Pleeease!

Snappy Autofocus -YES. Autofocus becomes a non issue — it just works.

No Lag EVF — Yes please. Plus higher resolution EVF and LCD screen while we’re there.

Diopter adjustment — NO. The X-E1 diopter adjust is UGLY.
Elegant solution is to screw in the diopter lens of your choice. There is no room for a diopter adjustment on a rangefinder style body.

Faster processor would be nice — reduce the operational lags.

Better performing cleaner sensor — Sure, but I’m more than happy with the current image quality.

I’ve never used Focus Peaking but it sounds good. Better manual focus would be nice for sure.

Please Fuji, keep the X PRO a belligerently pro camera. Keep the essence of the X PRO 1 — just update the performance for us.

  76. Don’t really understand why there’s so much backlash against Wi-Fi and GPS? They’re very simple features that would not in any way affect the shooting experience of the X-Pro 1. Yes, they would use some battery power, but if you aren’t interested in them or the battery life loss, then you certainly could disable them and you won’t even notice they are there.

I think Wi-Fi can serve several useful functions, especially being able to easily transfer photos from the camera to a smartphone or tablet in the field for quick editing and/or uploading. It could also be used for: a remote control and viewfinder on a smartphone/tablet; wireless tethering; to use the GPS of a smartphone if one is not built into the camera; transfer photos to a computer “on the fly” or later on in a batch; trigger wireless flashes/strobes; and probably other uses that I can’t think of right now.

Touchscreen and flipscreen backlash, I get it – they affect the physical form/use of the camera. There will be people who like and dislike these features for tangible reasons. I don’t think touchscreen is needed, personally, I didn’t like it on the one camera I used it on. A flip screen like on the NEX-7 would be okay, though. It would make shooting from the hip or overhead possible/easier, and the one on the NEX-7 seems to add virtually no size to the camera. It also seems sturdy. And if you don’t want to use it, well, then don’t!

  77. I love what I have at the moment, the only improvements I can think of are as follows:

    Weather sealing.
    Lag free EVF.
    AFC that works.

That`s it for me,I`m happy with it overall.

  78. I ‘d plea for better ergonomics.
Especially at the backside of the camera: please get rid of the Q button, the Green Arrow button, or at least place them elsewhere in a non-obtrusive spot so that I can leave my thumb somewhere not hitting something by accident.

    1. Hey Jan,

If you don’t normally use the flash hotshoe… have you seen the Lensmate thumb rest? It substantially improves your grip on the camera, and with a distinct place for your thumb you won’t go pressing those other buttons accidentally.

      http://www.lensmateonline.com/store/X-Pro1Thumbrest.php

I bought one and really like it! Only issue for me is it ever-so-slightly impedes access to the thumb wheel. You can still use it perfectly fine, you just need to use more of your thumb tip than the pad of your thumb. Not sure if this is an issue with the Thumbs Up version, but the Lensmate costs significantly less.

  79. Maybe I’m a little protective. I love the X Pro 1 for being what it is. And now I don’t want to lose it. I’ve not loved a camera since the 90’s before I went digital.

Why do I love it? Beautiful simple classic form with exceptional image quality.
You can walk anywhere with an X Pro 1 and no one bats an eyelid. Looks like you’re a shooting an old film rangefinder. It doesn’t say ‘hobbyist geek’, It doesn’t say ‘tourist with too much cash’ and it doesn’t say ‘professional photographer’.

I don’t expect Fuji will turn the X Pro into a gimmick camera, since thankfully the X100s hasn’t gone down that road.
The X Pro has the potential to be very special indeed if Fuji keep the faith; I hope they do.

As for the ‘wish we don’t want’ list…

Flip Screen – NO. Does not fit the philosophy of the X Pro. Would loose the solid classic form of the body. Adds unnecessary complexity and bulk. Flip screens break easy.

Touch screen – NO. Unnecessary complexity. Buttons are quick and precise and you don’t need to take your eye from the finder. I don’t need to fumble with a touch screen that I can’t see in bright light.

GPS and Wifi – No need. Unless I want to geotag my holiday snaps and share them immediately on instagram, which actually I don’t.

YES to all the obvious stuff – Faster processor, better AF, better MF, save TIFs, no lag EVF, higher res EVF, higher res LCD, customise Q, Better battery life, etc.

  80. I don’t want a flip (touch) screen!!! Go buy a model at 200$ if just that matters…
We just want a pure photography device, in its simple apparel! Not a toy!
In my opinion, it must be weather sealed. At this price!
Wifi? i don’t care, but could be interesting for lazy guys…
It’ll have the x100s upgrades of course!
I have just bought a x100s because the x-pro 1 is old now, in my point of view, it misses some new features like dual split focus.
I hope it won’t be a lot more expensive than the x-pro 1 when it come out!

Harry, who just switch from nikon’s dslr, to Fuji !!

  81. Trim the sensor array to 12Mp to reduce file size and the inherent data overhead. Take the resulting savings and apply to improving the autofocus speed. Weather sealing. Dual card slots. Wireless flash system. GPS attachment. But first, GET THE REST OF THESE LENSES OUT!

  82. I totally second this view!!!!

+ Smaller body (x100 size is the Perfect Size)
    + faster autofocus
    + better viewfinder

  83. I wish it was like this:

    – Full frame 20 megapixel or more
    – Focus peaking from the electronic viewfinder

All this is to mount Leica M

  84. I am happy, no changes needed for me. To me if you make everything too easy it takes the challenge and fun out of photography.

  85. Design by committee is a doomed strategy. The good thing about Fuji is that they had the stones to break some rules and now yall want them to be like all the other brands who want to be everything to everybody. No! Don’t be seduced by the marketplace of copycats. Resist the temptation. Please. Just remember, half of the people are below average. 🙂

  86. Please! Can we have it in SILVER, too?

All my DSLRs are black. I bought my X100 just because it looked different and NOT black. Some people like their cameras discrete and stealthy. Some like it elegant and classic.

  87. I like the original list shown above. Some of them I hadn’t thought of.

I like the idea of a flip screen. For a closeup of, say, a flower near ground level, I’d prefer to look down into a flip screen to lying down on the ground. For overhead shots as in crowds, I’d prefer looking up at a flip screen to holding the camera up at arms’ length and guessing.

For street shooting, I can see how a flip screen would facilitate surreptitious capture of subjects behaving naturally. Cartier-Bresson on occasion concealed his Leica(s) with a handkerchief and, I was told by Leica reps, was good at aiming his Leica(s) without looking through the viewfinder. I’m not very good at this method. As a shy teenager, I pretended to be aiming my Rollei in the direction of the focus knob while peering at my subjects 90 degrees to the right. It worked.

If a flip screen adds too much weight and makes the camera delicate unreliable, of course I wouldn’t be interested. The primary consideration — as with any piece of technology — is that it works. I wonder if the X-Pro 2 were to have a flip screen whether some photographers would obstinately refuse to use it.

If I can have only one feature, I would want the X-Pro 2 to focus faster than my eyes do. Someday this will happen; why not today? I’ve been shooting with my X100 for a couple of years now, and I’d be shooting weddings with it if only it would focus really quickly and reliably. After two years, I’m still learning about the capabilities of the X100 and my fondness for it continues even with the aggravation of its hit-or-miss focusing, some of which is my fault, not having practiced enough as, for example, a musician would practice a difficult passage.

I also want the X-Pro 2 to be really, really quiet. I’ve read complaints about the racket made by the X-Pro 1. The X100’s virtually silent operation has served me well, and I’d love to see that emulated by the X-Pro 2.

Oh, yeah, one more thing: I want it NOW, not late 2013 or early 2014. Okay, I’d rather have it done right than done soon.

  88. Wish list for X-E2:
    – fast AF (phase + contrast)
    – In manual exp mode, allow auto ISO to respond to changes in exp comp (in addition to SS and aperture) as Nikon does so well
    – auto iso up to 25k
    – better movie fxn: esp continuous AF
    – make it easier to take single shots in 6fps shooting mode (even quick push/release of shutter button currently results in at least two shots being taken)
    – Auto HDR of good quality (Sony’s seems poor)
    – Allow exp bracketing to reach +/-2
    – stiffer on/off switch
    – WiFi

  89. A true optical (uses no battery) solution for manual focusing. The main reason being that it is the only real feature that is missing now on this camera that will allow the battery usage to keep up with DSLR. As usual, an improved AF system would be nice too.

I also like the suggestion of some weather sealing, not over the top but just enough so that I am comfortable to take those last few shots when a shower is about to start.

I wouldn’t mind the clicking sound when taking a photo to be quieter also. I probably have short fingers or something but I personally wouldn’t mind if the camera was a bit smaller. Something between the X-E1 and X-Pro1 in size.

Just keep the good lenses coming really.

  90. The only reason I didn’t buy the XPro-1 was the lack of a diopter adjustment. For those that shoot without glasses, yet need correction, this is vital. Why have it on all the other models and not for the pro version? Please make this correction so I can buy one!

  91. I would like the below features and would buy it in a heartbeat 🙂

    – Hybrid AF – PDAF + CDAF with all the focus peaking of x100s of course
    – OVF supporting more magnifications supporting from 10mm to 200mm range and EVF with higher pixels than 2.36 million without any lag
    – 20MP sensor
    – 8 fps with continuous AF
    – shutter range from 60 sec to 1/8000 sec
    – 1/250 sync speed for flash
    – +/-2 for AE bracketing
    – 3.2″ OLED screen not LCD with hight pixel density than x-Pro1
    – Advanced video support allowing manual exposure controls during recording, headphone socket for live audio monitoring, mic input and higher bitrate support
    – Editable Q menu
    – Dedicated hardware button for video
    – continuous AF only hunting during half button press like others do
    – more compact than x-pro1 – around the size of x-e1 better
    – touch screen – it will make adjusting values using Q menu and navigating around menus even quicker
    – higher mAH battery giving more shots
    – available also in silver-black color of course – black is sexy but silver-black is hybrid – sexy & retro 🙂

  92. How about an improved EVF like the one in the X-E1. More programmable crop lines in the OVF for other lens choices.
    Oh and focus peaking.

    Thank you

  93. I have been working as a documentary photographer for many a year, and have greatly enjoyed the capabilities of the X-pro 1.
I am a firm believer of the ‘if it aint broke, don’t fix it’ mantra.
I trust Fuji will not decide to ‘Panasonic-UP’ their cameras (ie. GF series)

Tilting screens are flakey flimsy and breakable. They introduce variables that, in the field, compromise the integrity of the camera. (And this is not coming from some ‘old timer’, as I’m only 30, and have been using digital since 1999)

This camera excels at small and purity, so It is far better to refine that to redefine.
Improvements this camera would “REALLY” benefit from:

    Adjustable Diopter
    Weather Sealing
Better Access to Battery + Card
    Dual Card
    Stiffer exp comp wheel
Larger rounder AF/AE button on back (add some brail, cause we get blind behind the VF)
More customizable Q Setting, and Custom Function remapping
Fix that damned Auto ISO so I can determine the Values
    Phase AF, Focus peak
make the back-button AF in OVF as fast as it is in EVF. That delay drives me batty.

And, here is the last suggestion…
    Make the camera “App-able”
Fuji did an OK job with the film settings, but they need to go way farther with that.
Fuji, (or 3rd parties) should do their BEST to to allow in-camera films + Filters.
Seriously, I could rattle off a list of films I would love to see here, replicated as well in camera as they are in Alien skin or NIK.
Why the HELL has neither Fuji, Kodak (laugh) or even Ilford got involved in making their film profiles a downloadable App? They could charge a few bucks and make easy money from that, making their visual aesthetic legacy continue, while still keeping in the curve. A digital film web store with ALL the legacy films, plus new releases would wind my crank.
Make the code open for other more creative filters, made home users and tinkerers.
TAKE BACK photography from the Smart Phone!

  94. 1, 4, 5 & 6 are really nice… Not interested about 2 & 3… BUT, please… Diopter correction next to the viewfinder like X100s and X-E1 should be a MUST to have

  95. Please no wifi, no gps. I want to have feeling holding a CAMERA, not a stupid toy…fullframe sensor instead 🙂

  96. For Me, a user with glasses, a better viewfinder would be number 1 priority. Thé rounded finder in XP1 looks like an HP-finder like those Nikon’s. For example Nikon F3 HP and their modern Range like Nikon D 800. A longer eye-point so it becomes possible to se thé entire pic with glasses. Thé Fuji Xe-1 is better in this area, though without OVF. A better resolution for thé EVF would be Nice too.
Wifi and those things aren’t as necessary.

  97. My choice:
    – Of course the new sensor and chips from the X100s
    – Thus focus peaking and range finder for manual focus, like the X100s
    – ISO dial under the shutter speed dial
    – weather sealing
    – SILVER version (boy, are people excited to get photographed with the pretty silver X100s !)
    – interval timer for time lapse series
    – WIFI maybe
    – Absolutely NO flipscreen. Keep it thin

They could also really help all those who own lenses by creating more precision machined adapters like the M lens adapter for Canon and Nikon lenses.

  98. Just a good old fashioned camera. i don’t want gps, flip screen, wifi or any of that. improve auto focus speed, smaller body if possible, weather sealing, iso dial, full frame, better viewfinder. this could become my professional camera if this all happens.

  99. Please, please, please NO flip screen! The X range should maintain it’s classic looks and taking photography back to basics … This and the IQ is why pro’s choose the X100(S) and X-Pro as their compacts and some even as their main camera. A flip screen is a gimmick for beginners or the elderly who can’t bend down ;-)! If you want a flip screen take a look at the Finepix range where they are more fitting Same goes for touch screens, I want a solid robust camera without the breakable junk on.

GPS and WiFi? I could take it or leave it, I don’t mind it as long as it doesn’t add weight, bulk or sap battery life which it is likely to do.

    What would I like?

    1. Improved focus, the improvement in focus performance from the X100 to the X100S is fantastic, I’d love to see that level of improvement or even better considering this is would be their new flagship camera.

    2. Improved view finder, better resolution and reduced lag in electronic mode. And KEEP the optical viewfinder!

    3. Full frame would be an absolute treat, I think i would finally ditch my DSLR if it was.

    4. Weather sealing would be very nice.

    5. Faster flash sync, I know they can’t match the X100’s leaf shutter being able to sync at any speed but 1/180 is too slow, needs to be at least 1/250.

    5. Customizable buttons.

    6. Small, light but robust!

I could go on, but I think that’s enough for now ;-)!

  100. I would like to see better battery life first and foremost, then better manual focusing aids and last some way to make the frame lines in the optical view finder more accurate when using non fuji lenses.

On the frivolous side I wouldn’t mind wifi or gps.
Oh and one more serious thing I would like to program my camera with my name and copyright info so it imbeds it in each photo.

  101. I would like faster processor/s. Improved weather seal. NO flip screen! Less moving parts equals less prone to breakage. Wifi with direct access to post onto social media i.e Facebook, tumblr etc… I like this because getting news into AP as quick as possible would eliminate my iPhone/smartphone usage.

  102. video and sound capabilities that {at least} compete with canon’s mark ii & iii.
    full frame.
    better battery life.
    weather sealing.
    pretty please.
i would like this to be my next primary use camera,
but so-so video quality will not cut it in the field.

  103. I’m enjoying reading the suggestions here.
Okay, never mind the flip screen. If it really makes the camera fat and unreliable, I’ll do without the convenience.

I somehow missed that the X-Pro 1 does not have an adjustable diopter as does the X-100. What?! How can a professional-level camera be marketed as though all the people who can afford it have 20/20 vision? And the viewfinder just has to work for people who wear eyeglasses. I really do want to see what I’m framing without having to peer from side to side and top to bottom.

Weather sealing, absolutely, at least enough to withstand the amount of rain I’m willing to endure briefly without an umbrella. It would be nice if everything were everything-proof, but that’s how you get an airplane that won’t crash because it’s too heavy to take off.

And I still want ridiculously high, outrageously good ISO performance. ISO one billion would not be too high. How could anybody find a use for it? That’s what people said about the telephone and, more recently, the color monitor. I’ll settle for 102,400….for now.

  104. I want to switch to Fuji (I use Canon).

X-Pro 2 must be faster (AF / AF with low light / AF with moving objects), and shorter lags (off-on and writing).

Yes, X-Pro 2 must be faster.

Even in that case, I leave my 22MP. Neverthless, X-Pro 2 could manage 20 or just 18 MP.

X-Pro 2 must keep the weight and size of the X-Pro 1. The ISO 6400 must be so clean as the X-Pro 1’s at least… (for such reason, 18MP could be enough).

Diopter and focus peaking or touch screen, wifi, GPS, etc. are funny but but the cherry is a better viewfinder and custom shooting modes (three options). A serious “semi” Pro and a Pro need that tools.

And, a great silent shooting mode.

    X-Pro2 be a DSLR terminator.

  105. I sold my F pro 1. I hate it because AF was horrible in dark and very slow. For me unuseable. I wait for X pro 2 , hope that Fuji can do it for all of us !

  106. Keep the gizmos out of the x-pro series bodies!

    Wish list:
    – new sensor with phase detection autofocus & wider ISO range & even better dynamic range no need for more mega pixels
    – next generation processor
    – focus peaking
    – better EVF
    – port for digital shutter release
    – move the tripod mount so battery door access is possible
    – weather sealed body
    – keep the same form factor (I like the size compared to the x-e1)
    – last thing do not add the model name in bright white paint to the front of the camera (ie x-e1 got the black tape treatment)

  107. No GPS, No Touch screen, no Wi-Fi, no flip. All these technical make the camera more prone to breaking. Reliability is what I need. I still have my memory (brain), my eye and my skills for the rest. Focus development on a better focus and weather sealing. A must for “Pro” camera.

  108. Forget about the GPS, Touch screen, flip screen, Wifi, focus ON THE ESSENTIAL!!

    * Manual focus that works like a DSLR
    * Improved Auto Focus
    * Focus peaking
    * Weather sealed

In fact I’m selling my xpro 1 (or swaping for a x100s) as I just dislike the MF so much It wouldn’t be so much of a problem for day time photos but I takes a lot of dark and low light photography.

    http://mauvaise-lune.tumblr.com/

Shame because I love the rest and the IQ is amazing.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321138226179?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

  109. 1. Much faster focussing
    2. Improved EVF with no lag

Faster focusing should be easy ‘simply’ by increasing the frequency of the system- Panasonic now uses 240 Hz!

Better EVFs with much less lag are becoming available, so no problems there!

I hope they publish the spec soon as otherwise I will have to look elsewhere.

  110. The X Pro would be an incredible video capable camera if Fuji opened that door a little more with an AP-C (super 35) sized sensor, stunning low noise imagery, not AA filter (super sharp) and mirrorless body (use almost any lenses on planet). Also lets not forget its small size & great film simulations modes!

    PLEASE ADD THE FOLLOWING FUJI:

    – RAW & clean Video output through HDMI or atleast a good codec & +50MBPS
    – Focus Peaking
    – Full manual controls for video (aperture, shutter, iso, film modes, etc)
    – 3.5mm jack out & in with full control of sound recording from internal & external sound recorders

Sure theres more, but this alone would be a great start!

  111. Autofocus faster, more, more faster !!
    MPX: 24 – 30 Mpx
Manual focus ,more esay and fastest
    full frame ?¿
    best battery, long duration
    manual focus normally
AF Funtion: separate funtion in the shoot botton ( only shoot) and AFL only focus, like hassel or phase one, in the canon`s it`s possible this funtion too)

  112. A few things that hasn’t been said:

    – Control of color temperature from the munu of the Q button, not only being able to select “K”
    – A second Fn button.

  113. Flipscreen, Touchscreen, Wifi, GPS, other fancy stuff: FUCK NO!!! It would be a shame to overload this perfect simple camera with useless crap like that. The next step is adding creative modes
I’m basically waiting for the higher resolution EVF, the X100s-like sensor, Auto ISO 6400 and the quick menu. Improvements welcome, but not necessary.

  114. I have a Nikon D 5100 and I would like to move towards a pro camera, but preferably with a less cumbersome equipment.
I am fascinated by both x-pro 1 and x-e1 (does the optical viewfinder makes the difference?) and I will abandon the Nikon world, without further thinking, in change of a FF sensor and the focus peaking. I find flip screen useful in some cases (e.g. photo of puddle reflection) but I will prefer an environmental sealing.
I pro camera should be a camera not a tablet: Wifi, touch screen, gps and so on with those fancy stuff are just for ********

  115. Since I am thinking of a second cam:
Improve inherent photography features only: AF, environmental robustness, high ISO values, less noise, battery lifetime.
Intelligent TTL flash control: a configurable thumb wheel, which allows quick selection of ambient/flash illumination ratio.
    Do not include toys!
(I do not have the PRO 1 yet, thus I do not know the number of SDHC slots) -> two slots where one takes RAW files the other a JPG copy.

Maybe an “X-PRO F” with Full frame sensor (24×36) would be a nice idea!

  116. The current X Pro 1 is a very usable camera. Today I used it for a food shoot because of the excellent live view composition and the end quality of the image. The only improvements that should be considered essential in the next X Pro camera are weather proofing, manual focusing aid in the optical viewfinder, twin SD slots instead of the current one or perhaps a second CF slot, Card access in the side please. Speedier auto focus. Lastly the continued production of high quality prime lenses rather than the pro-sumer route zoom lenses they seem to be rolling out. Sensor size? not an issue for me but if they are considering a larger one don’t overcram it with pixels improve the bit depth instead. 12 for a raw file is a little underpowered these days in a true pro camera.

  117. Wireless TTL flash, an essential pro feature in my book. Yes, “real” photographers do use flash sometimes but rarely on-camera. A small built-in flash like the x100 could be the trigger.

  118. I haven’t read all the comments above yet, but after spending a weekend with the X-Pro1 I have some remarks on this camera. As the name implies this camera should be the ‘professional’ model in the Fuji line-up. For that, it really needs some changes.
    1. Batteries: longer life needed, a dual battery charger would be great and a different battery form so that it can only be inserted in one way.
    2. Customizable Q-menu, especially when shooting RAW.
    3. Reliability!!! Sometimes the camera wasn’t waking up correctly and I lost the OVF info completely.
    4. Viewfinder info: it would be nice when all automatic/standard info would be displayed in white and when you select ‘attention-needed’ settings, they appear in red (manual exposure, manual focus, spotmetering and exposure compensation).
    5. As a lightweight travel/, reportage camera, a build-in GPS is almost essential.
    6. Wireless (radio) TTL flash would be nice to have.
    7. Automatic focus-peaking in manual focus as soon as the focus ring is used. For focus peaking it would be nice if only a smaller area around the selected focus point would be enlarged whilst keeping the rest of the finder in normal view for framing.
    8. Further customizablity: I like to shoot manual exposure using spotmetering, while for auto-exposure I prefer the matrix-style metering. It would be nice to couple these setting, like I could in my Canon 1D-III. In this camera I also liked being able to deselect settings I really don’t use and have them disapear from the menu. This cleans up the system considerably.
    9. Speed, speed, speed… Sometimes I miss the instant readyness from my former Leica M6 days. I found the start-up of the X-Pro1 not impressive.
    10. A separate compartment for the SD card. I can live without all the USB connectivity, because the SD card goes directly in my MacBook Pro. This place could be used for the card perhaps.

And last but not least: release those much wanted 23mm/1.4 and 56mm/1.2 lenses!!!! Primes are the way to go.
For now I ordered an X-Pro1 and a X100s to replace my heavy DSLR gear in anticipation of that X-Pro2. So please mr. Fuji, don’t make me go back to Leica, because I think you can do it. I will be more than pleased with that upgraded X-Pro camera. And it’ll certainly hurt a lot less on my bank account….

  119. Keep it simple. Keep it Pro. There are plenty “prosumer” cameras out there with “flip up screens” and various other gadgety stuff no pro wants nor needs. Get the battery life sorted and get the AF up to speed. Get the grip out of the way of the battery compartment and put a substantial door made of metal on it too. Dual card slots are a must. Get rid of the focus by wire. And get it “weather sealed” for gods sake! Apart from that the X-Pro is a remarkable bit of kit.
Some of my street stuff is here. http://iworksphotographyotherstuff.blogspot.co.uk

  120. Flip screen – NO
    Touchscreen – NO
GPS tagging of images YES great for long overseas holidays

  121. a rangefinder camera, with focus peaking, and WiFi would be lovely. But keep it to the essence without flip up screens, or touch monitors. An easy and fast autofocus point selection, would be useful, along with a focus confirmation point.
For some reason a FF sensor would be appreciated. Very. Not a super megapixel sensor, but FF.

  122. I´d like only these:
    – Phase detection AF
    – Faster EVF
    – An option to set the focus to hyperfocal distance for the given aperture on xf lenses
    – Indicate hyperfocal distance on the range scale for manual lenses
    – Better implementation of focus peaking

  123. Flip screen – NO!

Just keep it a simple. Making the best small camera with high IQ and fast AF (that’s all of a gimmick serious photographers need). Final concession could be a touch enabled display, anything more feature-wise would be distracting from the main task – photography.

  124. AF improvement (Phase detection): YES,
    flip screen: NO
GPS, Wifi,: NO but as an option to add-on as with accessory, YES
improved ISO performance and DR of the sensor: YES
improved focus peaking (faster, colour selection): YES
retain optical viewfinder and improve EVF speed and resolution: YES
    improved power efficiency: YES
smoother and simpler menu navigation: YES
    Weather resistance: YES
    Metal construction: YES

Full frame: YES (Though not likely anytime soon)

Keeping it simple and focusing on the basics should always be the target instead of introducing gimmicky features..

  125. I want:
    * thick solid metal body.
    * unpainted finish, maybe brushed titanium (not painted), maybe chromed looking.
    * gorilla glass covering display.
    * metal buttons with symbols engraved / Etched In
    * Enormous viewfinder like Zeiss Ikon

  126. @Jason :

An S-Model would mean to me:

S6pro featuring an X-type full-frame sensor and Nikon bayonett in a D300, D800 or similar body. A real revelation and revolution, just as the S1pro to S5pro with their real Fuji-like SuperCCD were.

Only that way, Fuji could return to the world of “Pro”… now the X-series do not even fit as backup-bodies, as they do not accept any lens (unless you skip autofocus etc.) that fit on a slr body.

  127. I pretty much bought the xpro1 since the day it was launch in Singapore and have been carrying it with me daily ever since. So much so that the camera strap ring (on the camera) has been broken off due to wear and tear from abrasion/friction from the ring on the strap!!! My xpro1 fell hard on a concrete floor as a result… It would be good if they can modify this and have it done the same way as, for example, the canon 1D series. That way, it is the camera strap itself that goes thru the ring and there would not be metal to metal contact.

Secondly, Faster AF would be nice. It is currently not a good sports camera

Lastly, better low light focusing capability would be good as well.

  128. Flip Screen – yes.
I don’t know what cameras you folks used, to now say that it’s too new/amateurish, but obviously not the TLRs with their flip hood and waistlevel ground glass screens, nor view cameras or agfa type medium format with bellows and hinges and various things that “Could break”. Let me explain, nobody used to “beat up” their trusty Leicas, or Ikons or Contax’s no matter what they tell you. Everyone was careful with them, wrapped them in their shirts or socks before going to shoot the Spanish Civil War or what have you, and careful not to break the glass, or jam the shutter or winder.

A waist level screen is very useful, can be made quite slim and sturdy enough. I doubt anyone ever broke any flip out screen on any camera. Go ahead, google it.

  129. Faster autofocus (probably means phased AF) is the most important improvement. Then 20+ megapixels. If it would also be reduced in size (like the X100s) then I could not wish for more and would certainly buy it as soon as it is available. Full frame is probably wishful thinking.
