OM Digital is set to announce the new 50–200mm f/2.8 PRO lens on September 10 (or September 9 depending on your time zone).
This will be the first lens fully developed by the OM Digital team, and I’m genuinely curious to see how it performs.

There’s no official pricing yet, but based on the specs and the potential image/build quality—possibly comparable to the legendary 150–400mm PRO (which sells for over $7000)—I wouldn’t be surprised if this new lens lands somewhere north of $4000.

I know it’s tough to decide before full details drop, but I’d love to know: Would you consider buying this lens?

Note: Appears the lens has a 77mm filter size…

First leaked image of the upcoming M.Zuiko Digital ED 50–200mm f/2.8 IS PRO, set to be announced on September 10! The great news: this is not a rebranded Sigma 70–200mm, as many feared. Instead, it’s a true OM System design — and it just might rival the legendary 150–400mm PRO in performance!

I have no info yet about the pricing and other specs. But it sounds exciting don’t you agree?

Thanks to the source for the image! 😉

OM Digital is set to announce a new telephoto zoom lens soon—but there’s one possibility that gives me real nightmares. What if, once again, it’s just a rebranded Sigma full-frame design?

There’s an unconfirmed rumor suggesting the upcoming OM lens might actually be a white-painted, OM-branded version of the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 full-frame lens—similar to what we saw with the OM 150-600mm, which turned out to be a rehoused Sigma.

Hopefully, this is just a bad dream—and we’ll soon wake up to see OM Digital unveil a truly original, high-performance lens, crafted in-house with the same level of excellence as the legendary 150-400mm PRO.

I’ve heard the first rumors about a possible launch event for a new OM Digital product coming soon. Apparently, some “influencers” have received equipment to test. All we know for sure is that OM Digital will announce the new telephoto zoom lens, which has been talked about for some time, within 1-2 months. It might be a new 70-200mm f/2.8 IS PRO lens with the same super high quality like the epic 150-400mm PRO.

When it comes to cameras I got no info about a possible new PEN or OM camera coming. But I hope to be proven wrong…

I got this wold rumor from an Asian source:

OM Digital has clarified that development of the OM-10s series will not continue. Apparently, the OM-1, OM-5, and OM-3 series will be the only ones to remain in production.

That would be bad news, but not entirely surprising. For a small company like OM Digital, it makes little sense to offer four different OM model series. I would rather buy a new PEN than an OM10V. What do you think?

I heard from a source that two years ago OM Digital was investigating the possibility of developing a new type of camera with a different sensor size. One of those ideas centered on switching to medium format. Here is what the source told me:

There are engineering samples testing regarding a new line from OMDS.
The camera has a large stacked sensor in 4:3 ratio format. It looks like a medium format sensor.
It looks like OM picked up the unfinished medium format project in 2018 which was finally canceled by Olympus executives . The EM1X prototype body was originally designed for medium format.
My info came from two sources. OMDS and another tech person.
The new format is an on going project which I was told could be part of OM system product.

I don’t think this is going to be a final product. This is probably just part of a general investigation to see if there is a potential market for it.

An interesting (and controversial?) take on how the future GH9 should be.

A source just told me that it looks like OM Digital next telephoto zoom (marked on their roadmap) might be a new 70-200mm f/2.8 IS PRO lens

The lens is white and of the same super high quality like the epic 150-400mm PRO:

OM Digital said the lens will be on the market by the end of 2025. Don’t have any info about the pricing yet. It will be less expensive than the 150-400mm PRO…but still expensive!

Thanks Source 😉

Digitalcameraworld had a chat with several OM System executives. Here are the key takeaways:

  1. Doesn’t seem likely OM will make a premium fixed lens camera with large sensor
  2. OM Digital will continue to develop the E-M10 series
  3. Om Digital is “actively exploring the possibility of a PEN model”

OM manager Shirota says that OM System is focusing on five key technologies: compact design, powerful stabilization, all-weather environmental performance, computational photography, and a lineup of one-of-a-kind lenses.

ThePhoBlographer reports about this conversation with OM manager Eiji Shirota:

“Yeah, after we launched OM-3, we got a lot of feedback about the Pen-F,” Said Eiji Shirota of OM System — further clarifying that this isn’t the Pen-F successor that people have been asking about. “We have the need from the market regarding the range finder style (camera) with viewfinder…it’s great feedback for us. And now we are considering what new PEN series model we can offer as OM SYSTEM. Yeah, of course, we cannot say more…but of course, we are thinking.”
